Classroom 2.0 LIVE webinar “Jennifer Regruth, April Featured Teacher” with special guest presenter, Jennifer Regruth. April 21, 2018. On Classroom 2.0 LIVE we always look forward to our Featured Teacher presentations because we love getting a peek inside the classrooms and the inspiration shared! We are very excited to welcome Jennifer Regruth as our April Featured Teacher in this week’s presentation! Jennifer plans to share some of the things that fuel her passions and drive her teaching every day. She strongly believes in the importance of setting a climate for learners because the climate you foster in your learning environment will determine the success of it. Students and teachers are directly affected by the physical and emotional climates set in the room and you, as the teacher, largely have control of these. Making your workspace a safe, pleasurable environment in every way for both students and yourself will ensure growth for everyone. Jennifer will be sharing about Classroom Champions and how it impacts so many kids. The organization pairs Olympic and Paralympic athletes with high poverty schools, (classroomchampions.org) With each monthly lesson, students learn life skills like, perseverance, healthy living and setting goals. Having a high profile athlete as a mentor is very motivating! Skype/GHO has completely changed how her students think about the world. To have a live video chat with scientists, Olympic athletes, other classrooms has been fun and inspiring. She also uses Twitter/YouTube/Instagram to help them connect globally. She continually assures her students that they have the world at the fingertips to learn whatever they want! Along with that comes Digital Citizenship, safety, and self-regulation and the importance of their digital footprint. She strongly believes that tech should be thought of as a tool for learning, researching and organizing ideas. Finding creative ways to get the kids motivated to learn, making global connections through Google Hangouts, Twitter, and online tools, being willing to try new things, and sharing new ideas with others are all priorities. She loves that she is in a profession that combines 3 of her favorite hobbies: people, technology, and learning and that she can use creativity to blend these together. Jennifer Regruth teaches fourth-graders at Margaret R. Brown Elementary School in Seymour, IN. Her career started in the fall of 1990 when she began her student-teaching experience at Brown. The following school year, she was hired as a third-grade teacher and has been at Brown now for 27 years. The past 19 years, she has taught fourth grade. She was recently awarded Educator of the Year for 2018 by the Seymour Chamber of Commerce. She is a Google Certified Educator, Classroom Champions Educator since 2012, a co-moderator of #4thchat since 2011, a Seesaw Ambassador and a tech team coach. Classroom 2.0 LIVE webinar “March Featured Teacher: Going Global in the Classroom with your Students” with special guest presenter, Paula Fehlinger. March 24, 2018 Over the years, we have had presentations by many excellent educators who have shared their strategies and examples of global connection and collaboration with their students. In order to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world, young people need to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to engage in lifelong, cross-cultural learning and collaboration. More than ever, young people need the 21st-century skills for global competency, digital literacy, critical thinking and global collaboration among international peers. According to Anne Mirtschin, "Student's believe that they can solve the problems of the world. If we help them to develop a global network and teach them how to collaborate then they may well do so!” We are really excited to have Paula Fehlinger as our March Featured Teacher who will be sharing her stories, experiences and teaching tools for helping her students to connect globally. Webinar Description: Ready to break down the walls of your classroom and go global? Help students make real world connections to expand their world of learning. Classroom 2.0 LIVE webinar, "Featured Teacher: Michael Foster" with our special guest presenter, Michael Foster, from Poudre School District in Fort Collins, Colorado. Our Featured Teacher shows are always really special, and we always look forward to hearing about the amazing things teachers are doing with their students! We are so excited to welcome Michael Foster as our Featured Teacher this week. This webinar will explore peer-partnerships and developing new ways to look at learning activities that infuse technology to change how learning takes place. Teachers learn to view me as a co-planner and co-teacher by establishing a trusted-peer dynamic. Based on this rapport, we enter into a relationship that flows between teaching-partner and cooperating teacher. We work together to break down exposure to new tech-concepts into manageable pieces where there is room for some personal-struggle to learn as an adult yet in a safe and supported way. One tool we use to establish this dynamic is the “lesson refresh” concept. Teachers self-select either a beloved lesson or a new one they’d be comfortable teaching that we use as the format for re-examining it from the lens of incorporating new aspects to teaching the lesson utilizing technology. This session will take a look at some of the tools and strategies we use to leverage these close interactions to develop rapport both planning and interacting during the lesson as a foundation for future partnership in the classroom. Mike Foster has worn a variety of hats in his more than 20 years in education. He has taught grades 1-8 in elementary and middle school before his moving into his technology-coaching role. Mike leverages his professional experiences with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards as well as involvement in state- and national-level assessments to help teachers reflect on their professional practice and create new paths for learning. Mike and his family live in northern Colorado where they enjoy community outreach with several non-profit organizations. (This has resulted in a menagerie of animals in his household and connections to a rainbow of local connections that benefit children outside of school. Mike is an Educational Technology Facilitator for the Poudre School District in Fort Collins, Colorado, home to 20,000 students across 50 schools. The easiest way to reach out to him is to follow him on Twitter at @mfosterpsd https://sites.google.com/psdschools.org/edtech/

Classroom 2.0 LIVE webinar, Matt Miller, September Featured Teacher, Sept. 12, 2015. We are so excited to have Matt Miller on Classroom 2.0 LIVE as our Featured Teacher for the month of September! This will be an excellent opportunity to learn about some of the great ways Matt is effectively integrating technology into his HS Spanish classroom and the amazing advice and tips he shares about going paperless in his classroom. Matt is a high school Spanish teacher at Turkey Run High School in Marshall, Ind. His classes are very conversational and technology-laden, and he doesn't use textbooks (and hasn't since about 2009). He writes at the Ditch That Textbook blog (www.ditchthattextbook.com), usually about technology in the classroom, creative teaching and instruction with less reliance on the textbook. After trying to do the traditional “teach by the textbook” for a few years, he launched into a textbook-less path where learning activities were often custom-produced for his students as well as infused with technology. He likes the results a lot, and his students do, too. He’s a proud graduate of Indiana State University (go Sycamores!) and lives the dream — a wife, three kids, a mortgage and two dogs. He has taught high school since 2004, ranging from all levels of Spanish to etymology, English and yearbook. Before he became a teacher, he was a newspaper reporter and wrote for several Indiana daily newspapers, including the Indianapolis Star. Matt is a Google Certified Teacher and was awarded the Golden Apple Award by WTHI-TV in Terre Haute, Ind., for being one of five outstanding educators in the Wabash Valley in 2014. He was also nominated for a Bammy Award for Secondary School Teacher of the Year in 2014.
