He is now leading a freelance consultancy agency that seeks to help educators with their use of digital tools and businesses with their staff development. She studies Black historical excellence in education, intending to reframe curriculum and instruction today. Dr. Muhammad's scholarship has appeared in leading academic journals and books. She has also received numerous national awards and is the author of the best-selling book, Cultivating Genius: An Equity Model for Culturally and Historically Responsive Literacy. She also co-authored Black girls' literacies: An Edited Volume. Her newest book, Unearthing Joy, is the sequel to Cultivating Genius and provides a practical guide for putting culturally and historically responsive education into curricular practice.Dr. Muhammad is interviewed by Stacey Joy, a National Board Certified Teacher, Google Certified Educator, and 2013 L.A. Rosie Riquelme Antunez, Director of Orchestras at Decatur High School, received her Bachelors of Music Education degree from Georgia College and State University where she was a student of Dr. Daniel Kaplunas. Rosie received her Masters of Music Education from the University of West Georgia through their online program and continued her own violin studies with Curtis Institute Alumni, Mrs. Valerie Gardner in Winder, GA. In 2019, Rosie became a Level 1 & Level 2 Google Certified Educator. Rosie received her Specialist Degree in Instructional Technology from Kennesaw State University in May 2021. Rosie regularly serves as a guest clinician for various honor orchestras and schools around metro Atlanta, and has served as one of the counselors for the Encore! Summer Music Camp and the Atlanta Chamber Music Festival. This school year is Rosie's thirteenth year teaching orchestra and first year at Decatur High School. While teaching at Collins Hill (2011-2023), all orchestras consistently received straight superior ratings at the annual Large Group Performance Evaluation. In addition to earning straight super ratings, the Collins Hill Chamber Orchestra also regularly received perfect scores at LGPE. In 2016 the Collins Hill High School Chamber Orchestra was selected to perform at the national ASTA conference, and in 2017 was selected to perform at the Georgia Music Educators Association conference. Rosie has also been presenting regularly over the last two years on instructional uses for technology in the classroom. She presented at the Gwinnett Digital Learning Conference in June 2019, GMEA in January 2020, the GA-ASTA conference in September 2020, among other local professional developments in her school and county. Today Kevin and I meet with Amy Trujillo, a professional educator and author with 20 years experience working with students from elementary school through adults. Currently she is the Instructional Coach at Orlando Science Schools where she oversees STEM, as well as oversees the gifted plans for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Episode 7 - Special Episode #2 on Distance Learning Rosie Riquelme, Director of Orchestras at Collins Hill High School, received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Georgia College and State University where she was a student of Dr. Daniel Kaplunas. Rosie received her Masters of Music Education from the University of West Georgia through their online program and is continuing her own violin studies with Curtis Institute Alumni, Mrs. Valerie Gardner in Winder, GA. In 2019, Rosie became a Level 1 & Level 2 Google Certified Educator. Rosie is excited to begin pursuing her Specialist Degree this August 2019 in Instructional Technology at Kennesaw State University. Rosie regularly serves as a guest clinician for various honor orchestras and schools around Gwinnett County, and has served as one of the counselors for the Encore! Summer Music Camp. This 2019-2020 school year is Rosie's ninth year teaching orchestra and ninth year at Collins Hill High School. While teaching at Collins Hill, all orchestras have consistently received straight superior ratings at the annual large group performance evaluations. As a violinist, she has performed with various groups including the Omaggio String Quartet, GCSU String Ensemble, GCSU String Quartet, Georgia All-College Orchestra, Agnes Scott Community Orchestra, Gwinnett Symphony Orchestra, Gwinnett County Chamber Orchestra, and the Da Salo Solisti Chamber Orchestra. Rosie has had the honor of performing with various performing artists including Josh Groban, Michael Buble, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and Ashanti Floyd otherwise known as “The Mad Violinist”. It was a really interesting chat and relevant both to teachers and employees looking to start speaking at conferences and running their own events. Adam started as PE Teacher in the UK before heading off for some world travels and working in International Schools in Shanghai and Saudi Arabia. Adam's main advice for teachers and others looking to speak at conferences is to build a solid online presence and start sharing content, specifically posting all your presentations on Twitter and your blog. Also all his blog posts have a ‘call to action' where he looks to get an email address, for example buy giving away an eBook or some content. Also we discussed about not being greedy up front :) Adam picked the conferences he wanted to visit as an attendee anyway, then asked to speak. Only later did he ask for expenses or a fee, sometimes on his second or third visit to the conference. I can't emphasise this enough for new speakers…. ‘Don't ask for money until you really deserve it!' Also at the event help out with everything!
