On Classroom 2.0 LIVE we always look forward to our Featured Teacher presentations because we love getting a peek inside the classrooms and the inspiration shared! We are very excited to welcome Jennifer Regruth as our April Featured Teacher in this week’s presentation! Jennifer plans to share some of the things that fuel her passions and drive her teaching every day. She strongly believes in the importance of setting a climate for learners because the climate you foster in your learning environment will determine the success of it. Students and teachers are directly affected by the physical and emotional climates set in the room and you, as the teacher, largely have control of these. Making your workspace a safe, pleasurable environment in every way for both students and yourself will ensure growth for everyone. Jennifer will be sharing about Classroom Champions and how it impacts so many kids. The organization pairs Olympic and Paralympic athletes with high poverty schools, (classroomchampions.org) With each monthly lesson, students learn life skills like, perseverance, healthy living and setting goals. Having a high profile athlete as a mentor is very motivating! Skype/GHO has completely changed how her students think about the world. To have a live video chat with scientists, Olympic athletes, other classrooms has been fun and inspiring. She also uses Twitter/YouTube/Instagram to help them connect globally. She continually assures her students that they have the world at the fingertips to learn whatever they want! Along with that comes Digital Citizenship, safety, and self-regulation and the importance of their digital footprint. She strongly believes that tech should be thought of as a tool for learning, researching and organizing ideas. Finding creative ways to get the kids motivated to learn, making global connections through Google Hangouts, Twitter, and online tools, being willing to try new things, and sharing new ideas with others are all priorities. She loves that she is in a profession that combines 3 of her favorite hobbies: people, technology, and learning and that she can use creativity to blend these together. Classroom 2.0 LIVE webinar, "A New Spin on PD-Alternatives to Traditional PD" with special guest presenter, Dennine Leschinsky. February 3, 2018. Professional development is an important part of our lives as educators, but often it falls short of meeting our needs. Too often we find ourselves in "sit and git" sessions where we have to listen to information that seems irrelevant with no way to personalize the experience to make it relevant. Fortunately, there are many educators who are working to change that type of PD experience, and our special guest for this week's webinar, Dennine Leschinsky, has some very exciting ideas to share with us for alternatives to traditional PD. Join us to hear Dennine's "New Spin on PD." Webinar Description: If you build it, they will come. PD in our district has evolved to include new designs including the implementation of a learning lounge, empower hour and breakFAST. Each offers a unique spin on PD which begins with district and building initiatives and is driven by teacher choice. Each has similar components of a learning lounge. Clearly defined, a learning lounge is a place where educators can come together to learn and collaborate about instructional content and practices. It is a relaxed, interactive environment, much like that of a craft fair or flea market where shoppers browse and converse with vendors about their wares. Our goal is to allow our teachers to have a comfort level with some of the instructional practices prior implementation. Empower hour is a structure much like an EdCamp where teachers are empowered to share strategies or technology tools with other teachers. This has replaced our faculty meetings. BreakFAST is a type of PD we used to strengthen our teacher’s use of a new formative assessment screening tool we implemented this year. This session is perfect for anyone who plans professional development or faculty meetings. Dennine Leschinsky is in her 22nd year in education. As a certified Reading Specialist and veteran teacher, Dennine owns and operates an Early Intervention agency called, Connective Interventions Services where she supervises and designs professional development for 30 staff members. In addition, Dennine’s experience as an educator includes teaching preschool, first, second, and third grades, as well as serving as a Literacy and Technology Coach for grades 6-8. Currently, Dennine is the Instructional Specialist at Wescosville Elementary School in the East Penn School District. In this role, she provides instructional coaching and also serves as a school-based MTSS coordinator. Dennine works collaboratively with district level administration to plan systemic professional development experiences. Additionally, she has presented at several local and state conferences spanning her career. Dennine is grateful to Peg Volak, former colleague from Pennridge School District and current board member for Classroom 2.0 , for this exciting opportunity. She looks forward to sharing some of her favorite PD spins with you today! https://twitter.com/denninespin

October 14, 2017 Today's webinar is a very special show for us! We have the opportunity to learn all about Picture Book Month from Tara Lazar and Katie Davis, co-founders and renowned children's authors. Picture Book Month was envisioned and founded by Dianne de Las Casas who was our special guest presenter in May, 2017 on Classroom 2.0 LIVE. Sadly, Dianne lost her life in a tragic fire recently and we wanted to honor her legacy by celebrating her life through this featured presentation about Picture Book Month. We will learn about the importance of picture books for students and Picture Book Month. They have created an outstanding Teacher's Guide for participants in Picture Book Month. Our presenters will also share some of their special memories of Dianne de Las Casas including a special visit from John Couret who began writing children’s books because of Dianne’s inspiration. Author Tara Lazar has six picture books in print with many more to come. Her latest title is “7 Ate 9: The Untold Story” from Disney*Hyperion. Next fall look for her illustrated dictionary “500 Words to Bumfuzzle Your Teachers & Bamboozle Your Frenemies”. Tara is the founder of STORYSTORM, a writer’s brainstorming challenge formerly known as Picture Book Idea Month. She is a picture book mentor for We Need Diverse Books and the co-chair of the Rutgers University Council on Children’s Literature annual conference. Katie’s secret superpower is her ability to teach non-techy and tech-fearful writers how to become better business people by building their platforms through social media, video, and creating/building mailing lists. Also known in her niche as one of the first writer entrepreneurs, Katie has created many events and courses for writers, including How to Create Your Author Platform (and Market Your Books without Being Pushy), Video Idiot Boot Camp, and Picture Book Summit (the largest and first online conference of its kind). Her podcast, Brain Burps About Books, is consistently ranked in the top 10 book-related categories. She’s appeared regularly on WTNH and The Huffington Post. She is the director of the Institute of Children’s Literature, which provides accredited writing courses for both adult and children’s books. Katie has been honored to speak everywhere from a maximum security prison, to elementary schools, to university level, including UCONN and Yale, and has keynoted conferences and fundraising galas. You can subscribe to Katie’s YouTube channel at KatieDavis.TV or the #1 podcast in iTunes in Children’s Publishing by going to KatieDavis.com/podcast. Katie Davis’s books, published by Harcourt, S&S, HarperCollins, and Diversion Books, have sold over 755,000 copies, which is why she’s published How to Promote Your Children’s Book, a marketing guide for writers that debuted at #1 on Amazon. http://picturebookmonth.com/ https://taralazar.com/storystorm/ http://katiedavis.com/ https://www.gofundme.com/4b4y0xs (Go Fund Me in Celebration of Dianne de Las Casas)
Classroom 2.0 LIVE webinar, "Featured Teacher: Michael Foster" with our special guest presenter, Michael Foster, from Poudre School District in Fort Collins, Colorado. Our Featured Teacher shows are always really special, and we always look forward to hearing about the amazing things teachers are doing with their students! We are so excited to welcome Michael Foster as our Featured Teacher this week. This webinar will explore peer-partnerships and developing new ways to look at learning activities that infuse technology to change how learning takes place. Teachers learn to view me as a co-planner and co-teacher by establishing a trusted-peer dynamic. Based on this rapport, we enter into a relationship that flows between teaching-partner and cooperating teacher. We work together to break down exposure to new tech-concepts into manageable pieces where there is room for some personal-struggle to learn as an adult yet in a safe and supported way. One tool we use to establish this dynamic is the “lesson refresh” concept. Teachers self-select either a beloved lesson or a new one they’d be comfortable teaching that we use as the format for re-examining it from the lens of incorporating new aspects to teaching the lesson utilizing technology. This session will take a look at some of the tools and strategies we use to leverage these close interactions to develop rapport both planning and interacting during the lesson as a foundation for future partnership in the classroom. Mike Foster has worn a variety of hats in his more than 20 years in education. He has taught grades 1-8 in elementary and middle school before his moving into his technology-coaching role. Mike leverages his professional experiences with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards as well as involvement in state- and national-level assessments to help teachers reflect on their professional practice and create new paths for learning. Mike and his family live in northern Colorado where they enjoy community outreach with several non-profit organizations. (This has resulted in a menagerie of animals in his household and connections to a rainbow of local connections that benefit children outside of school. Mike is an Educational Technology Facilitator for the Poudre School District in Fort Collins, Colorado, home to 20,000 students across 50 schools. The easiest way to reach out to him is to follow him on Twitter at @mfosterpsd https://sites.google.com/psdschools.org/edtech/
