Dr. Fabiana Claure is joined by renowned pianist Jeffrey Biegel, to discuss the secrets of successful fundraising, project coordination, and financing artistic ventures. Jeffrey Biegel shares his pioneering story, exploring the intersection of tradition and innovation through projects like the Peanuts Concerto and the Rhapsody National Initiative. Mr. Biegel also  delves into networking and project creation, sharing his unconventional approach to connecting with conductors and orchestras. Discover the evolving landscape of classical music and the impact of technology while preserving the irreplaceable human element.  Also in this episode: Evolution in Music and Entrepreneurship: The impact of technology on the classical music industry and how it has influenced the goals and approaches of musicians. Innovation in Concerts: Pioneering efforts in live-streamed concerts and audio-video cybercasts, starting in 1997, Biegel reflects on the challenges and successes of these early attempts to use technology to connect with audiences around the world. Purposeful Commissioning of Music: The importance of connecting compositions to relevant themes and the need for music to reflect and resonate with contemporary society, addressing topics such as patriotism, diversity, and social issues. Legacy and Transcending Time: Projects that transcend time, reaching people across generations, can contribute to this legacy. Funding Challenges and Strategies: Finding the right composer, estimating costs, securing down payments, and navigating contracts with non-profits can be crucial.  Entrepreneurship in Music: Being entrepreneurial, thinking outside the box, and leveraging technology for networking and publicity can help musicians build successful and sustainable careers.   About Jeffrey Biegel The life and legacy of Jeffrey Biegel reflects an unprecedented journey as a pianist having created the most diverse commissioning projects, premieres and recordings of his generation, building bridges to break divides through music. His life takes its roots from age three, barely able to hear nor speak, until corrected by surgery. The 'reverse Beethoven' phenomenon explains his lifelong commitment to music, having heard only vibrations in his formative years.   Considered the most prolific artist of his generation, Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA, conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters upon Mr. Biegel in 2015, for his achievements in performance, recordings, chamber music, champion of new music, composer, arranger and educator.   He studied at The Juilliard School with Adele Marcus, herself a pupil of Josef Lhevinne and Artur Schnabel, and is currently on faculty at the Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College.   Connect With Jeffrey Biegel Instagram | YouTube | Website   Subscribe To The Musician's Creating Prosperity Podcast Apple Podcasts | Spotify | YouTube   Book A Call With Dr. Fabiana Claure Book here   Connect With Dr. Fabiana Claure Instagram | LinkedIn | Facebook | Facebook Group | Email   About Dr. Fabiana Claure   Fabiana, a concert pianist and former University professor turned 7-figure entrepreneur, has empowered thousands of musicians to scale their businesses and reclaim their time. Denise received her BA in Criminal Justice from Moravian College, a MA from Marist College in Psychology, and her doctorate from Columbia University on Higher and Adult Education. What does the United States Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action mean for higher education? To put it in the most basic terms possible, race is no longer a factor in admissions. At the center of this decision, were two court cases, Students for Fair Admissions v. President and Fellows of Harvard College and Students for Fair Admissions v. University of North Carolina, which have changed the direction of admissions in the United States. Advocates across the country have expressed concern about representation and diversity on college campuses and in several fields, such as STEM, in the coming years.Learn more about CITI Program: https://about.citiprogram.org/References: https://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/applying/articles/how-does-affirmative-action-affect-college-admissions https://www.brookings.edu/articles/how-will-the-supreme-courts-affirmative-action-ruling-affect-college-admissions/

Our subject is ‘You don't know what you don't know – A Disability Services Perspective.' Our guest is Dee Singly. Dee is the Director of Disability Services at Ursinus College. She facilitates accommodations for students under the Americans with Disabilities Act. She has a B.S. in Psychology, from East Stroudsburg University, an M.Ed. in Counseling and Human Services, and a Ph.D., in Special Education from Lehigh University. She has also worked in Disability Services at Cedar Crest College, Moravian College, and Chestnut Hill College. The best disability service supports start with student self-advocacy and self-determination—skills that are often new to first-year students. Dee tells us that “The most important part of connecting a student with what they need in college is that very first conversation [in the disability services office] … This may be the first experience a student has had talking outside of the family about their disability. A student needs to feel comfortable, and this takes practice.”The ratio of students to DSS support staff can vary wildly, but 400:1 is not uncommon. Under these circumstances, self-advocacy is crucial. It starts with self-awareness. When a student knows the answers to the following questions: -       What is my diagnosis?-       How does it impact my life?-       What impacts does my diagnosis have in the classroom?-       What are the impacts from a social perspective? They are more likely to get the support they need.We also discuss decreasing the stigma of asking for help and the differences between support in high school versus college. Accommodations in college are meant to create access whereas in high school, they are focused on success. In college, success is dependent upon the student.

Heather Leigh Corey discovered printmaking at Moravian College. While learning the process, the importance of the papers printed on became a focus that introduced, in earnest, the ultimate creator's lesson that... materials matter. For Heather, this led to making her own paper and a discovery of how much even the content within the paper is essential. She fell in love with the process; the joy of the material itself inspiring new ideas. Since finishing her MFA at The Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts in 2007, Heather's most inspired and large scale vision for this process is found in her ongoing project called "Love Corsetry," where her goal is to make paper sculptures (infused with plaster,) from casts of 100 specific women whose stories are told through each piece. This project paused for a time as Heather's own story has evolved into becoming a mom and pursuing artistic endeavors that integrate into this season of life like teaching art to children out of her home studio or organizing in town art events with the Arts Council of Glen Rock, NJ. Heather shares her love for art education, art as a means to build community, and how she can't help but keep creating in the midst of life. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thestolenhourspodcast/message

Office Hours with The Practical Prof®... and Friends!

In today's episode, The Practical Prof®, Dr. Santo D. Marabella talks with his friend (and former student), Landon Eckles, about the healthy food company he and his wife, Kat, started.Landon Eckles found himself at a crossroads in life. After spending five years in sales and management in the pharmaceutical industry in his early career, Landon moved into a Managing Partner role for Rose Rock Group, a global investment management firm specializing in Asia specific projects, in 2012.  Although this career was exciting, the weeks of international travel required for the position was not conducive to a healthy and balanced family life he had often envisioned - especially with his wife, Kat, at home with 4 children (at the time, now 5 children).  In 2014, while chatting about life on their family ski boat with their children and other family members, Kat and Landon officially decided to change their life's course by quitting their jobs, moving from Pennsylvania, and opening up an organic juice bar. Within a year, they opened their flagship Clean Juice store in Huntersville, NC and the rest is organic history. Currently, there are over 100 Clean Juice locations open across the country with many more in active development. Additionally, in 2020, Landon completed the acquisition of a non-toxic nail and beauty bar and rebranded the company to Freecoat nails. The first franchises have been awarded and several stores are set to open in 2021. Landon puts his faith first and is inspired daily by entrepreneurship, leadership, business, and team management. In late 2020, Landon was named to one of the Most Admired CEOs by the Charlotte Business Journal and is highly sought after as a public speaker.  He is also an active member of the Charlotte, NC area Vistage CEO group, his family's church in Elevation Lake Norman, and spends the rest of his time chasing his five young children. This is a fun, free flowing conversation with Joshua Lord, Assistant professor of Biology at Moravian College, where he helps break down how a changing climate and air chemistry is affecting the oceans. We cover a lot of topics, from what ocean warming means for ecosystems, how coral reefs can still thrive in a warming or rising ocean, a different way to look at thriving in the Anthropocene, and thoughts around the real difficulty in explaining something complex and detailed. If you want to learn what more carbon in the air chemistry does to the ocean, what the coral is as an organism, why they’re dying or bleaching white, look no further.

Episode #22 – Randie O'Neil Find The Song Writer's Gig on iTunes and Stitcher Randie O'Neil was born in Allentown, PA and the city of her youth was captured in the Billy Joel song, “Allentown”.  That was a time of transition in that proud city and the strength required to adapt to significant change has infused Randie's musical journey. 8th Grade, a time that can be challenging for most people, dealt Randie a particularly tough blow when her guitars were sold out from under her.   After high school her resolve pointed her to Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA where she found a supportive roommate who told her she should be singing and the explosion of New Wave music on the scene.  In the mid- 90's she helped create a band named AMA “Against Medical Advice” (cool name by the way!) and they worked their way into some legendary NYC clubs including Kenny's Castaways and CBGB's!  A few years later she endured a serious car accident and the doctor's told her she would not be able to sing!  That is the kind of thing that could knock many people out for the count but Randie enrolled in graduate school at Montclair State University for addiction counseling and works to help people to this day.  The London Olympics in 2012 might seem an odd place for a musical rebirth but Randie felt something was missing in her life and bought a guitar.  She even did some busking on the streets of London!  She gave herself one year to find her musical footing and in 2013 she played at a showcase in the lower East Side of NYC and hasn't looked back.  Randie is having her CD release party this Friday, July 12th at the Folk Project in Morristown, NJ! Enjoy this episode as Randie closes it by playing “Keep Me In Mind” and the title track from her new CD “I'm Not That Girl”. Find Randie and her music at www.randieoneil.com
