Throughout the year, Land-Grant Podcast Network will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. Following Texas A&M's 73-66 win over the Buckeyes in Columbus, both head coaches, as well as select players, spoke to the media about the grindy, gritty non-conference bout. Bruce Thornton and Jamison Battle spoke first. Thornton mentioned Ohio State's struggles at the free throw line no fewer than five times, saying that if the Buckeyes had hit a few more, they'd have been in “a much better spot.” Battle mentioned that his team fouled a few too many times, which handed the Aggies free points. We then spoke to Tyrece “Boots” Radford and Henry Coleman, who both scored 20+ points in the game. Radford said the game was just “two teams hooping” and going “bucket for bucket,” but that the Aggies were the team able to string a few baskets together at the end of the game and pull out the win. Buzz Williams followed and was able to recite exactly how many rebound opportunities Ohio State had in their exhibition game against Dayton and their win over Oakland. He said he told his team he wanted “50 rebounds” and that rebounding is “woven into everything they do” at Texas A&M. Chris Holtmann closed the press conference. He felt the rebounding issues mostly stemmed from his team's inability to contain Radford and Wade Taylor, which caused help defense to jump the ball and not have as many people available to rebound. The DBR Podcast is back for some sad, yet hopeful, notes about Duke's loss to UNC last night at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Among the standout performances for Duke were guys who have been mostly stuck on the bench this season, like junior Joey Baker and freshman Henry Coleman. Baker had a double-figure scoring night and Coleman brought the intensity and energy that Jason, Donald, and Sam have all known was there but we hadn't seen yet. Additionally, we saw the Duke offense sharing the ball and hunting good shots in a way that it hasn't in a long while. On the bad side for Duke, the defense allowed career nights for multiple Tar Heels, including freshman Caleb Love, who was key for UNC down the stretch. UNC was making threes and taking foul shots at abnormally large rates, and both of those stats will haunt Duke when they look at the tape. We also strongly suspect that this will be Matt Hurt's worst performance this year in an otherwise standout sophomore campaign. Looking ahead, Duke hosts Notre Dame this week, two months after their first meeting, a game when Duke won by 10. Jalen Johnson was unavailable for that game and Wendell Moore was ineffective, so the crew feels hopeful that Duke will get back on track with those guys giving even average performances. With Blue Devil fans nervous about the beginning of ACC season after a tricky, truncated non-conference slate, Duke went into South Bend last night and took care of business against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Duke Basketball Report Podcast is back to break down what went right for Duke last night, including turnover margin, limiting Notre Dame's shooting opportunities, and multiple players stepping up on offense to cover for Jalen Johnson's absence. On this episode of the Duke Basketball Report Podcast, we're diving into the news that Jalen Johnson is out indefinitely for the Blue Devils. We speculate about what it means for Duke as ACC season begins. Who gets more minutes? Whose game might blossom without Johnson on the floor? We also get into the news that Chase Brice, Duke's starting quarterback during the dreadful 2020 season, has entered the transfer portal, having spent less than a year in Durham.
