The haunted attraction industry is bizarre. In many ways, it more closely resembles a sport than an industry, partly because of the importance of amateur/home/charity haunters for sustained growth. That said, a few professional haunters still look down on the home haunt crowd. So, we will talk about why home haunters are important to the industry and how pro haunters can help their home haunt community flourish. This Week's Episode Includes:1: Intro2. Work We Did for the Haunt3. Question of the Week4. Intro to the Topic5. Seven Reasons Home Haunters Are Important6. How Pro Haunters Can Help Home Haunters7. Though we made some good decisions in the beginning, we had a lot to learn. Now, we're offering you the chance to learn from our wise decisions and our mistakes alike to start your home haunt in a way that will keep it going for a long time to come. Plan your education track before you go. All of the seminars and workshops will be listed on the website HAuNTcon.com before you leave, create a plan of attack and pencil in back-up classes just in case you change your mind. There are many classes...all included in the ticket price. Save money by going with friends. If you team up, a few people can split the cost of a hotel room. You can also split up and attend different seminars then compare notes after. Divide and conquer. Dress comfortably. There is much walking in New Orleans and the convention center is HUGE! Bring comfortable shoes, possibly a coat or jacket (we needed one last year), and a shoulder bag large enough for catalogs/T-shirts/small merchandise. Respect the vendors. HAuNTcon offers many cool products for your Haunted Attraction, Home Haunt, or your Halloween lifestyle. But be aware of other people waiting to chat with the vendors too. Ask your questions and move on to the next booth. Come back when they're not as busy (usually early morning or right before close). Pace yourself. HAuNTcon + New Orleans can be lots of fun! But you need to survive the weekend and get the most out of your stay. Try to get enough sleep so you have the brainpower to retain your seminars, stay hydrated to keep you going, and enjoy the cajun cuisine...carefully. Stick to your gameplan. Know roughly where you want to focus on before you go. What costumes, equipment, and props do you need? What do you need to learn for the next Haunt season? What is your budget for 2020? Enjoy your stay. New Orleans is a very historical city. Take advantage of after-hour tours and events. Behind-the-scare interviews with professionals in the Haunted Attraction Industry, helpful advice to grow your Haunt from other Haunters, and a brand new website focused on those who want to start & grow their haunted attraction business. Man!! What a crazy Haunt Season! How was your October?? I had planned to release more podcast episodes in September and October but the Dead Factory grabbed a hold of me and didn't let go. What started as a few small additions to our Haunt grew into over another 1,000 square feet of spiders and cemetery. We built more wall panels, added an effective spider area, and turned our small cemetery scene into a small indoor corn maze. Now the Dead Factory is over 7,000 square feet! What originally started out as an idea quickly grew into a huge addition to our 20 minute walk-through. But we will have more episodes on that coming soon. As well as stories and highlights from our co-host Darryl Plunkie's adventures up there in Canada. Stay tuned for those podcast episodes coming soon. What's NEW for HaunTopic Radio in 2017? HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY! That's right, we've now been doing this crazy podcast for a full year and what better way to celebrate it than by doing what we do best: The News. Unfortunately, it's kind of a sad news episode as we wrap up the haunt season news and cover some of the happenings from November. There are injuries and alleged assaults, but we also have some happy news as we discuss some proposals (including one that went comically awry) and a haunt-themed wedding. So pull up a stool, bend ear to a fool and let's get going on this week's episode! This week's episode includes: Conference Reminders Haunt Visitor Hit by SUV Actor Accused of Assault, Faced Trial Haunt Employee Charged with Disorderly Conduct Bacardi Creates Haunted Attraction for Promotion Home Haunt to Open Year Around Modesto Home Haunt Closed Before Opening Haunt Offers Behind the Scenes Tours After Season Actor's Wedding Proposal Goes Awry Two Other Actors Get Married on Halloween All of this and much, much more makes this one episode you do not want to miss!

Halloween is what you make it! Every October, sleepy Fairhaven, MASS erupts with ambitiously creative spookery. Endless styrofoam tombstones and backyard beasts appear courtesy of a few supremely dedicated local "home haunters," who have devoted their lives to the art of handmade monster making and haunted decorating.THE AMERICAN SCREAM film documentary follows three of these families to uncover the triumphs and tragedies that come with carrying on the true Halloween DIY spirit. We are talking with THE AMERICAN SCREAM producer Zack Carlson, who claims to have been born in a pizza. He is a programmer for the Alamo Drafthouse, and writes and produces movies. He also co-wrote the book DESTROY ALL MOVIES, but that was a whole year ago. He doesn't eat fruit or vegetables. THE AMERICAN SCREAM will premiere on NBCUniversal's Chiller network October 28 at 8:00 PM ET and will be screening in select theaters through November. THE AMERICAN SCREAM is also available through Tugg.com, a platform that allows people to choose the films they want to see at theater and create their own screenings for their community.
