LDLDN is DJ, producer - and most importantly - obsessed with music. A host on NTS Radio since 2012, his shows hop between jazz fusion, Detroit techno and anything else that generates a feeling. His SpaceBass parties and DJ sets at the likes of Erol Alkan's ‘To The Rhythm' at XOYO, I Love Acid at Corsica Studios, We Out Here Festival, Lovebox, Tate Modern and Secretsundaze swing easily between dancefloor steppers and more thoughtful, deeper grooves. Movement is key, genres and BPMs - not so much. Founding Natural Frequency Records has allowed LDLDN to bring all that together - releases that are musically diverse and tap into years of experience raving, collecting and dreaming about music. Tracks that aim to capture an emotion or idea in a genuine and interesting way. "My tastes cover so many different styles, tempos and vibes, it's often tricky to choose a particular direction for a mix. But after seeing some of the chaos at a recent Slothboogie party I thought I'd go straight in with some front-foot, late-night house, techno and acid selections to get you moving. A sprinkling of new and old - including stuff on my Natural Frequency label - recorded in one take to capture the energy. Really enjoyed putting this together and hope you do to"
Irish-born, Manchester-based Kerrie is a multi-disciplinary artist, incorporating live sets, DJing, producing and running her label Dark Machine Funk across her repertoire of work. Having garnered a rich musical education through working at and holding a DJ residency for one of the UK's most respected record shops Eastern Bloc, Kerrie's in-depth knowledge and unwavering dedication to music shines through her notable back catalogue and bolshy, unforgiving DJ and Live sets. Honing her craft for over a decade, Kerrie has played worldwide in celebrated venues such as Tresor, Berghain, fabric, FOLD, Elsewhere NYC and festivals including Freedom Medellin, Freerotation, Drift and Basilar. First learning to mix via her brother's turntables in the early 2000s, it wasn't until 2009 that Kerrie invested in her own set-up and built an extensive record collection, covering everything from ambient, electronic, house, EBM, acid, electro, and her go-to genre, techno. Kerrie delivers tough moods from the turntables, as conveyed in her mixes for Reclaim Your City, Bassiani, SLAM and Crack, where she carefully blended high-energy styles of UK, Detroit, and European techno, many of which stem from the 90s and the 00s. It's frequent to hear Kerrie weave broken elements into her mixes too, chopping up the 4/4 groove at just the right moment to keep things propulsive. Kerrie's Live sets are fast becoming renowned for their trippy motifs and high impact on the dancefloor, applauded by Berlin's long-running club Tresor, where she made several appearances with her Elektron machines. Kerrie's Live set at Freerotation in 2019 was one of the festival's most talked-about debuts, and this year, Kerrie will return to and debut at multiple festivals and clubs across Europe and the Americas. Following well-received releases on labels such as Don't Be Afraid, Cultivated Electronics, I Love Acid and Symbolism, Kerrie launched her imprint Dark Machine Funk [DMF] in 2020. The label homes her distinctly raw aesthetic and honours her love for dark, gritty, metallic and industrial sounds melded with elements of funk, heavily influenced by second-wave Detroit artists, UK techno and music by some of her favourite artists; James Ruskin, Blawan and Surgeon. Kerrie's first release on DMF, "Inner Space PT1", was praised by Resident Advisor, who credited her ability to make "lean, fierce techno that knows how to groove." 2022 was a watershed year for Kerrie's productions. She debuted on the monumental UK techno label Blueprint with her EP "Raw Regimen", which landed acclaimed reviews. Truly welcomed to the Blueprint family, Kerrie will share her second EP on the label in May 2023 and join the crew at Blueprint showcases around the globe. This year marks the release of Kerrie's 10th EP on vinyl, and considering her consistent output on DMF, Blueprint and many more labels, the producer shows no sign of slowing down. Coming to international prominence in more recent years, regardless of her decade-long tenure in Manchester's vibrant scene, Kerrie is deeply invested in the culture of electronic music, starting from her teenage era as a raver in Ireland up to her innovative projects today. In 2017, she founded Eastern Bloc's in-house event space to nurture local talent, which remains at the heart of Manchester's music community. Kerrie is forging a long-lasting path fuelled by drive, passion, authenticity and a community-first way of thinking. Electro, IDM, techno, Warp, Rephlex, all that stuff. We talked about this stuff with Ned Beckett on episode 34 - it was a really interesting and fertile corner of the UK underground in the late 90s and early 2000s. It was also the entry point into music for this week's guest, Josh Doherty, as half of Posthuman and promoter of illegal raves in tube stations and other unusual locations. Since then, he's spent well over a decade running the I Love Acid party and Balkan Vinyl label, as well as keeping up his production output and externalising his thoughts prolifically on twitter. We discuss that electro/techno UK crossover point, the parties back then, and the parties now, the influence of the pandemic, and how the music and the scene has developed in the recent past. Josh is an underground warrior who does things his way, with little-to-no compromise. It's an approach that has served him well, and makes for good listening - you're going to enjoy this episode! Renyard has been ill with covid this week, so instead we have a replay of Posthuman b2b Johnny Aux, recorded live at I Love Acid at The Pickle Factory on 14th August 2021. Renyard will be back with a new show next week.
This week, we have a special guest mix on the show from two stalwarts of the modern Acid scene. Posthhuman is resident and promoter of the I Love Acid parties as well as running the label of the same name and Balkan Vinyl. Johnny Aux is a veteran of the scene best known for being part of Paranoid London. This set was recorded live at I Love Acid on 14th August 2021 and appears in it's entirety exclusively on the CTRL Z podcast. I caught up with Posthuman ahead of the broadcast to find out more about his approach to I Love Acid: 1. After 14 years, the I Love Acid parties seem more popular than ever. What do you think is the secret of your success? Simple really - I've not changed my approach. It is, and has always been, about good music and good people. It's about acid house, but it's not a retrospective night. It's new music, classic music, up & coming DJs and legends, all together. You have also got to listen to people smarter than you, and take their advice. I've been lucky to work with some very wise & experienced heads over the years. My resident DJ and good friend Placid has been a huge influence musically, not just for the party but also for me. Jon Dasilva brings knowledge reaching all the way back to his days as resident at The Hacienda back at the birth of the UK acid house scene. Luke Vibert has remained a driving force behind it all. For a little while I tried to do bigger parties and book bigger "headliner" names but realised quickly that way leads to watering down and compromising the core ethos of the party, involving agencies and corporate influences. So I rolled it back and kept it as a more intimate clubnight. We've always had an inclusive, welcoming door policy - we get youngsters turning up with ID to prove they are over 18, and find them dancing alongside older heads who remember acid house first time round. The crowd is queer, and straight, hardcore fans and total newbies. There's no snobbery. Alongside the records, I've tried to build a family around it all of artists, DJs, and venues and ravers. I try to be there for when they need me, outside of the clubnight. With some DJs the gig is just transactional - they play the show and that's it. But others understand what it's about, that it's more than just another show, with them the relationship carries on. Or at least I'd like to think that's the case - you probably have to ask them! 2. What advice would you give up and coming DJs in the scene? Go to events. Go early, introduce yourself to the people working the door and the promoters. Dance. You never know when your break might come, but if you're not out there getting involved and supporting the scene on the ground it DEFINITELY won't come. You have to make your own luck. And it starts by being there. 3. What is the one tune that never gets old, no matter how many times you play it? Underground Resistance - The Final Frontier.
Over the years we've become familiar with Posthuman's various releases, DJ sets and of course, his much adored and rightfully voted number 1 club night, I Love Acid. Posthuman need little to no introduction. The cousin duo of Rich Bevan and Josh Doherty released a string of IDM albums on labels like Seed, Skam and B12 before turning their attention to a sound that would go on to become a staple of the artists ethos, acid. Doherty went on to found Balkan Vinyl in the late 00's, releasing essential records from Mark Archer, Luke Vibert, Plaid and more. The label also spawned a series of sub-concepts, one being I LOVE ACID, an award winning party series, which also presses acid bangers boasting consistent and instant sell outs, accompanied by personal nostalgic artwork. 1Ø PILLS MATE sub-label Cyberdome follow up their debut release from Slacker with a wicked four track EP that represents the no-fuss, back to basics ethos that Posthuman hold so close. No frills, just high quality dance music. ‘Pleasure Machine' is a squelching cut of acid-electro; robotic vocals, precise drum programming and a minimal approach crafting a track that very much defines the Posthuman aesthetic. The words of UK bassline, dub and electro meet on ‘Titan Descent'; large wubs, ravey wubs and stripped-back production, creating a minimal-styled wobbler that highlights how less can also mean more. Today we premiere the third track on the EP entitled ‘Terror Police', which sounds like its batteries could well be running out, as it's bassy stabs begin to slow across a classic electro beat, before finding themselves back at 100% as a defected rhythm begins to melt. Rounding off the release is a remix from electro royalty DMX Krew, who turns in a typically marshy cut rendition of the ‘Terror Police' OG; a dark and creepy atmospheric journey through the Oblivion gate. Soooo excited to share this brand new #SITB with everyone! 135 features future Chicago legend @maximoquinones - an incredibly talented DJ/Producer who has been on a HOT streak this year. It's been almost exactly 2 years since he was on SITB originally - we had a ton to catch up on including: -How he's been staying motivated and creative in 2020 - Max was DJing 6+ times a week before COVID -His slew of amazing releases over the past 2 years including "I Love Acid" with Flynninho, "Designer" feat. Michaella, "All I Need", his collab project "STOPCALLINGME" and so much more -His production process in the studio - Max has been grinding and continuously improving his craft to perfect his sound. Had a ton of valuable information to share -Changing the perception of his brand - Regionally known as a top Open-Format DJ, he's used this year to focus on production to be known as a House Producer who is also a great DJ. I'm such a big fan of Max - his work ethic, drive, and passion for music is extremely admirable and the positive energy he brings is unmatched. Keep crushing Max!!
Venezuelan-born and based in Barcelona, as the founder behind Classicworks and a singular producer, Cardopusher is as rough and rugged as they come. For over a decade he has been a driving force behind cutting edge, experimental electronic music having evolved through the dubstep era and mutating into the realm of techno and house in recent times. He has released an eclectic array of hardware driven, machine music on the likes of Hyperdub, Boysnoize Records, Super Rhythm Trax, I Love Acid and many more. His sound is diverse and abstract at times, drawing upon deep rooted influences and an eclectic sphere of music from across the spectrum of electronics. Not someone who can be easily placed into a definitive category or box, he blurs the lines between house, acid, slow-mo and beyond. This mix is very much a reflection of that.
Cousins Joshua Doherty and Richard Bevan have been pushing tough underground electronic sounds since 2000. Making their name in part to a series of parties in an abandoned London Underground train station in the first half of the noughties, they founded Seed Records and more recently Balkan Vinyl and have released a steady stream of quality bangers, with a penchant for acid and old rave sounds. Doherty has been running 303-focused parties under the I Love Acid banner since 2007, and in recent years launched an accompanying label, where the likes of Luke Vibert, Snuff Crew, Cardopusher, Perseus Traxx and Affie Yusuf have all released tracks on a limited number of 303 vinyl copies. Their mix for us encompasses unreleased goodies, productions for the likes of Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Hardfloor Records and Craigie Knowes, and plenty of varied licks. *How would you describe your sound?* Sci-fi acid house and hectic electro rave. *What and who inspires you and influences your sound?* Everything from classic house of Chicago and techno of Detroit in the ‘80s, through to European rave and techno in the ‘90s, and the explosion of genres and ideas since then all over the world. After 20+ years doing this, still having moments when you hear something new and instantly think "Wow, I want to write something with that vibe" *Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?* It features a lot of our dancefloor focused, high energy tracks from the last couple of years, plus some unreleased and upcoming gear (although the opening track is from a decade ago) This mix is along the vibes of the kind of set we are playing in clubs right now. Tracklist: Posthuman - Europa Sky [Uncharted Audio] Posthuman - Beat Down [I Love Acid] Posthuman - Transit System Error [Balkan] Posthuman - Exit Drums [Dixon Avenue Basement Jams] Posthuman - Centauri 303 [Hardfloor Records]* Posthuman - Rejektacid [unreleased] Posthuman - Steal The Show [Craigie Knowes] Posthuman - Airwave Uranium [X-Kalay]* Posthuman - Down 2 Jakk [Craigie Knowes] Posthuman - Telekom 99 [unreleased] Posthuman - Gods Of Technology [Balkan] Posthuman - Damocles Syndicate [Shipwrec] Posthuman - The Contract [Acid Avengers] *forthcoming releases

This week, there is too much to say about our Guest JON DASILVA! (@@jon-dasilva) From the years he spent as resident DJ at the legendary HACIENDA, handing over after Laurent Garnier had it's national Service call up in 1988. He took the lead on the club for years with Mike Pickering and together, they made the Acid and House explosion! Ahead of his performance in Glasgow this Saturday night, we've invited Maltese acid maestro Acidulant to provide the next hour of sonic exploration in our series. Here he's provided us with an hour of live exploration focused on the more retro/house side of his sound, recorded live last weekend at I Love Acid in London, where he performed alongside Luke Vibert, Jon Dasilva & Posthuman. Tune in and lose yourself in an acid trip your ears will thank you for, and join us for a slightly more techno-fueled evening this Saturday at Stereo in Glasgow!

Luke Vibert, c'est ce track énorme, "I Love Acid" sorti en 2003, chez Warp Records :
The history of electronic music is littered with a collection of big names and stars that the media portray as crucial figures in the development of dance culture. But, for every one of these lauded figures, hundreds of more talented and more dedicated players are working day and night at the coalface providing an arguably more important contribution. Josh Doherty and Rich Bevan, AKA Posthuman, are the epitome of these coalface workers. With a career dating back to the mid-90s, Josh and Rich have released countless records, put on countless parties and run numerous labels but all without any hint of jumping on bandwagons. In 2007 the pair created the I Love Acid parties which later became a label of the same name. With both of these going from strength to strength, we felt like it was the perfect time to catch up with Josh do discuss all things Posthuman. Listen to the podcast, brought to you courtesy of Rode microphones, whom without this would never have been possible...
