Undoubtedly one of today's most gifted visionaries of the electronic scene, Bassiani's beloved resident HVL has to be one of the best-kept secrets. But for how long? His sound sculptures, spanning everything ranging from kosmische-indebted downtempo to ethereal dub techno to murky, post-industrial ambient conjure up that dusty grain of Rephlex-era masterpieces and nu-age serenity, reeling off their soothing lineage across newly pollinated grounds. One for the ages, infused with that widescreen, cinematic grandiosity, HVL's RYC mix is everything you could have wished for: the very definition of walking the surface of the moon on your own, floating away from a crater to the other with weightless agility, as the earth reveals its blue silhouette in the distance. A taste of infinity. Yes, we're talking that kind of beautiful.
Electro, IDM, techno, Warp, Rephlex, all that stuff. We talked about this stuff with Ned Beckett on episode 34 - it was a really interesting and fertile corner of the UK underground in the late 90s and early 2000s. It was also the entry point into music for this week's guest, Josh Doherty, as half of Posthuman and promoter of illegal raves in tube stations and other unusual locations. Since then, he's spent well over a decade running the I Love Acid party and Balkan Vinyl label, as well as keeping up his production output and externalising his thoughts prolifically on twitter. We discuss that electro/techno UK crossover point, the parties back then, and the parties now, the influence of the pandemic, and how the music and the scene has developed in the recent past. Josh is an underground warrior who does things his way, with little-to-no compromise. It's an approach that has served him well, and makes for good listening - you're going to enjoy this episode! ¡Paz y Amor! ¡UEMA os quiere! About ProLex ProLex is a Deep and Soulful house Dj born and bred in Limpopo, currently based in Pretoria. ProLex has always had a soft spot for DeepHouse music and his love for the music built up to him establishing a Podcast commonly known as 'The Pure Deep-ish Sessions' back in 2017. The deep house devotee's love for music was triggered and inspired by the likes of Deep Sync, Rephlex and Thobs just to brush on a few. Mind and focus fixated on mainly speaking to the soul, musically.

Our next TRM podcast series comes courtesy of Madrid DJ and producer @luis-miguel-espinosa. A true pioneer in the Madrid music scene, Luis has hosted nights since the late '90s with an eclectic variety of styles, including reggae, dancehall, dub, hip hop, drum & bass, electro but mainly techno. In December 2020, Luis will launch his own label, @art_intelligence_records, a clear tribute to the seminal Warp series. His main focus will be to pay a sincere and heartfelt tribute to the pioneers of the early '90s, the first generation of Uk Bleep sound and Braindance creators, including labels such as Warp Records, Rephlex, Planet Mu and Skam Records. My real name Katlego Moduta Osborne Mohlahlo also known as GhettoFreak. Born in Johannesburg at a township called Tsakane on the east rand. My love for music started at an early age when I was inspired by family members that used to collect records mostly 80's Funk and disco then got to know other genre like Lounge, Bossa nova, Deep Tech, Neo Soul, R&B not to name a few. Along my journey in the music universe, I met brothers that share the same passion of being vibe dealers. I consider myself a music compiler due to them love of music more than the fame surrounding this creative space. I have knocked on other avenue to be given a guiding light of best improving my passion but doors were always shut, So I explored the world of podcast to understand the vibe dealers world that's where I came across podcast that assisted in shaping my ear to be broad and be free to explore without limitations to name a few: Softpardy Island by TwoBirdyPanda, The Helmet Crackers, TGS (The Garage Sessions), His and Hers Jam Sessions at (Soweto), TurnOffMyCool,The anthill Kollective, The Koolkatkollective by Nakedjazzmonk and Gab Juz, Spacious Sounds by Gab Juz, 738nights Sessions Co - Founder by Rephlex, The Shaolin and Phastro (Tshegofatso Ranyao), AVC (Audio Evolution Crew) to name a few that really inspired me to explore the podcast world the main reason for the GhettoFreakhearthis podcast birth to explore the avenues of the sounds that intrigue me. Note the some projects that are on the pipeline that I may not mention at the moment lookout for GhettoFreak on the other realms. A warm welcome to Dublin's Modern Magic Records. This mix closely follows thier second release from DMX Krew. The Rephlex veteran and his arsenal of machines have touched on acid, electro, boogie, synth pop, techno, IDM, Italo disco and house of many different shades over the years. With their second record just hitting the shops this week, the guys made a mix featuring artists, sounds and labels that influence the eclectic sound of the label. Upcoming next for them is an EP from Armonics with a roaring remix from Black Spuma (Lauer & Fabrizio Mammerella). Catch Modern Magic on the main stage at Life Festival outside of Dublin at the end of this month, then again at their own club night with Subject to celebrate the Aphex Twin after party with Altern 8 at District 8. https://soundcloud.com/modern-magic-records

Brainbeau are a Brisbane-based underground electronic duo featuring Chelsey Charlton and Kat Martin aka Chelvis Chesley and Kat Martian, aka Dust Storm Jogger and X in O, aka Emotional Hoon and El Crumple Dash. There are vestiges of classic Detroit and Chicago techno in their music, riffing off Warp and Rephlex, Not Not Fun and 100% Silk, muddied with a lo-fi aesthetic redolent of a slew of North American tape labels. Stu Buchanan talks to Chelsey and Kat about Brainbeau and Brisbane, the world they’ve created and now inhabit – a place where they take fun very seriously indeed.Originally broadcast on 'Out From Under' on Resonance Extra.
TrapZ or TrapmasterZ or Trapmaster S or just plain Steve is well known within the North East Daarrrncce scene and also notorious for rigging decks to play at +16. How does this go? 'BACK IN THE DAY' from which we'd pile on the superlatives yadda yadda yadda. Steve Nicolson is a good guy though and he Disk Jock'd quite a fair bit in the 90s/early 2000s in and around the North East. He co-ran a series of parties called Protect & Survive around the time the British Electro scene popped its head up in the 90s via Rephlex, Warp, Breakin and the like. It was a good gig. He ran PAs for a good few years too and helped us a lot with the Road to Rimini nights and the various Signals parties. He gave us this mix here and called it Stella Soundings after the Stella Power Station that used to be near his house in Tyneside. [CONTAINER PODCAST] [08][LEO ANIBALDI] Leo was born in 1972 and at the age of 15 discovered his passion for electronic music. Thanks to the advent of the first computers like Commodore Vic 20 and 64, he began to create his first loops. After one year Leo started to play in Rome outskint’s clubs under the pseudonym Dj Mc, when was impossibile to find in Rome any trace of electronic beat. He became a big analogue synths collector and decided to spend his daily life into the creation of beats and sound research. In 1990 his recordings career stared at ACV records where he will make more then 20 seminal albums like Attack Random, Riders of the future, Noise Generation, Muta, Cannibald and Aeon. In 1991 Leo met Lory D and in a small garage located in the north of Rome they started the alternative music movement universally known as The Sound of Rome, who spreaded Techno music in Rome and all over Italy. In those years Leo concentrated in bringing his analogue Live set around the world as he played in the best techno parties like one of the first Love Parade edition in Berlin. In 1995 Leo decided to cut the relation with Acv records and moved to Rephlex, label of his friend Aphex Twin where he will make the Album Void. The end of the century saw Leo running the the illegal rave scene in Rome at Fintek, pushing his sounds further new limits until time for a break arrived with fast sound and restless lifestyle. Time to set up a new studio and a succesfull series of gigs in Rome (including a liveset back to back with Aphex Twin at Brancaleone or the ones with Dave clark & Speedy J…), just enouff time to recup with the techno scene & in 2005 Leo recorded his first single for a new project: Cannibald Records. Along with fellow musicians and friends, the label is now up and running since 2008 CONTAINER Follow us on www.facebook.com/Container.project.Roma
Manifest Podcast 016 - KrasiusBelgian DJ, Krasius has always been a admirer of all things electronic. He started his late night adventures in the middle of the 90's always trying to deepen his musical knowledge. A great fan of Warp, Rephlex, Ninja Tune, Sub Rosa, Hymen, Ant-Zen, Mego, Worm Interface and Skam.Always found playing with his friends vinyls over the years growing up and when he had the chance around 2005 he got turntables of his own and decided to intensify his practice, in no time at all he started to broadcast his own mixes. In 2009 he joined forces with his friends at Maldita Rec and since then has performed at many Maldita parties and festivals in Belgium and elsewhere as well as a festival in Croatia in 2011 to great review. He has also taken part in many radio programs including shows from Belgium, Greece and the U.K andin 2012 he was invited to join the British label "Structural Damage".Krasius likes to mix different styles from electronica music including idm, industrial, drill, breakcore, acid and many more and also likes to realize ambient mixes with 3 or 4 turntables. Rephlex Records is a record label started in 1991 by electronic musician Richard D. James (aka Aphex Twin) and Grant Wilson-Claridge. Rephlex coined the term braindance to describe the otherwise uncategorisable output of Aphex Twin and Rephlex Records. The official definition is as follows:Braindance is the genre that encompasses the best elements of all genres, e.g traditional, classical, electronic music, popular, modern, industrial, ambient, hip hop, electro, house, techno, breakbeat, hardcore, ragga, garage, drum and bass, etc.Rephlex has released the music of many notable and influential electronic artists, among them Mike Paradinas, the founder of Planet Mu Records, synth pop revivalist and electro pioneer Ed Upton, prolific dance musician Luke Vibert, and electronic musician and virtuoso bass player Squarepusher. The label has also remastered and re-released the early works of its acid heroes 808 State and The Future Sound of London, and relaunched the career of electronic duo producers Black Devil with a re-release of their first record.mp3 linkhttp://www.rephlex.com/

Listen up! That's right, here's a brand new mix from arch beatfreak and master of mischievous melody, Bogdan Raczynski. Many of you will know Bogdan from his slew of releases on Rephlex over the past decade (if not, head straight to 1999's seminal Samurai Math Beats). Aside from writing music that makes you feel completely out of your gourd, he's also an accomplished preparer of delicious foodstuffs — something we at Spannered admire greatly in a person. Following on from 1999's compendious Mix #1, Mix #2 unfurls a tracklisting that's nearly as meaty as Bogdan's Fat Polish Man Bigos.
