One of the most dramatic moments from the Iranian revolution took place in November 1979. Young insurgents stormed the US embassy in the Iranian capital Tehran, taking 52 Americans captive. Barry Rosen was held hostage for 444 days, he told his story to Alex Last in 2009.Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. Witness History is for those fascinated by the past. We take you to the events that have shaped our world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes every day, we take you back in time and all over the world, to examine wars, coups, scientific discoveries, cultural moments and much more. Recent episodes explore everything from football in Brazil, the history of the ‘Indian Titanic' and the invention of air fryers, to Public Enemy's Fight The Power, subway art and the political crisis in Georgia. We look at the lives of some of the most famous leaders, artists, scientists and personalities in history, including: visionary architect Antoni Gaudi and the design of the Sagrada Familia; Michael Jordan and his bespoke Nike trainers; Princess Diana at the Taj Mahal; and Görel Hanser, manager of legendary Swedish pop band Abba on the influence they've had on the music industry. You can learn all about fascinating and surprising stories, such as the time an Iraqi journalist hurled his shoes at the President of the United States in protest of America's occupation of Iraq; the creation of the Hollywood commercial that changed advertising forever; and the ascent of the first Aboriginal MP.(Photo: Barry Rosen waves to a crowd in 1981 at a ceremony celebrating the release of US hostages in New York's City Hall. Operation Eagle Claw was a failed operation by the United States Armed Forces ordered by U.S. President Jimmy Carter to attempt the rescue of 52 embassy staff held captive at the Embassy of the United States, Tehran on 24 April 1980. The operation, one of Delta Force's first,[1] encountered many obstacles and failures and was subsequently aborted. Eight helicopters were sent to the first staging area called Desert One, but only five arrived in operational condition.[2] One had encountered hydraulic problems, another was caught in a sand storm, and the third showed signs of a cracked rotor blade. During the operational planning, it was decided that the mission would be aborted if fewer than six helicopters remained operational upon arrival at the Desert One site, despite only four being absolutely necessary.[2] In a move that is still discussed in military circles, the field commanders advised President Carter to abort the mission, which he did.[3]

This Thanksgiving Holiday we are blessed as Americans and have A LOT to be thankful for, no matter what the WOKE media may tell us.  Scooter and Scorcho spend time with Rocky Sickmann - US Marine Veteran that was held hostage by the Iranian regime for 444 days spanning two Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.  All of our guests have wonderful stories but Rockys story is one you won't want to miss.  Born in 1957 in suburban St. Louis, Mo., Rodney V. “Rocky” Sickmann enlisted in the Marines in 1975 in the wake of the Vietnam War. He spent a few years in the infantry before joining the Marine Corps Security Guard Battalion (present-day Marine Corps Embassy Security Group), which watches over U.S. Embassies worldwide. In October 1979 Sergeant Sickmann was posted to the embassy in Tehran, Iran. Weeks later, on November 4, radical Islamic students stormed the compound and took Sickmann and 51 other American's captive. Over the next 444 days he and his fellow hostages endured privation and torture as officials sought their release. On April 24, 1980, eight U.S. servicemen died during a failed rescue attempt known as Operation Eagle Claw. To secure the hostages' release, President Jimmy Carter's administration signed an accord on Jan. 19, 1981, that among other concessions removed a freeze on nearly $8 billion in Iranian assets and included a pledge “not to intervene, directly or indirectly, politically or militarily, in Iran's internal affairs.” The next day, within minutes of Ronald Reagan's inauguration as U.S. president, Iran released the hostages. Soon after arriving home, Sickmann left the Marines for a successful career in sales. He now works for Folds of Honor, a nonprofit that provides scholarships to the children and spouses of U.S. military men and women disabled or killed in service to their country.Rocky is not hesitant to tell the world exactly what he is thankful for and one of his biggest regrets to this day!!!!!Schorcho is fired up in another excellent Airing of Grievances - wearing a mask, driving around in a car by yourself?  What's up with that?  Schorcho wants to know!Scooter and Scorcho wish you and your family a very blessed Thanksgiving holiday!  Take a moment and reflect upon what you are grateful for.  The length of your list may surprise you!Quick footnote - the disease that escaped Scooter in airing of Grievances was ZIKA!God Bless!  USA!

Book Vs Movie: “Argo” The 2007 Wired Article Vs the 2012 Movie Adaptation    The Margos are on an adventure for this episode that is based on a true story--Argo. The 2007 Wired magazine article (“The Great Escape: How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to RescueAmericans From Tehran”) by writer Joshua Bearman is thrilling as it talks about what is known as the “Canadian Caper” in 1979. After the siege of the U.S. Embassy in Iran, several American embassy personnel hid in a Canadian diplomat's home.  The “caper” part is when CIA officer Tony Mendez (who wrote his own account in the book “The Master of Disguise” as Antonio J. Mendez) created a fake film crew for a movie called “Argo” and with the help of Canadian passports and some clever improvising, rescued those people on January 27, 1980.  Part of the project's success was creating a phony Hollywood company “Studio Six Productions” and makeup artists John Chambers and Robert Sidell helped create the faux publicity campaign with ads in the Hollywood Reporter and Variety magazines. Chambers was later awarded the CIA “Intelligence Medal of Merit” for his help in the rescue.    The Ben Affleck-directed uses many of the true elements of the film and adds a few select Hollywood flourishes (like casting himself as the lead) and a kickass rock soundtrack to make a thrilling ride of a film.  Soon after its release, several articles were talking about some of the most glaring omissions in the story, including the role of the Canadian embassy in the rescue. The film was nominated for several prestigious awards including Best Picture for the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes.  The cast is stellar with Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Kyle Chandler, and an uncredited Philip Baker Hall as CIA Director Stansfield Turner. So, between the Wired article and the movie--which did we prefer? Have a listen and find out!  In this ep the Margos discuss: The backstory of the Iran Hostage situation and the Canadian Caper Major differences between the actual events and the Hollywood version of what happened What President Jimmy Carter thinks about the movie  The cast: Ben Affleck (Tony Mendez,) Bryan Cranston (Jack O' Donnell,) Alan Arkin (Lester Siegel,) John Goodman (John Chambers,) Tate Donovan (Robert Anders,) Clea DuVall (Cora Amber-Lijek,) Rory Cochrane (Lee Schatz,) Victor Garber (Ken Taylor,) Kyle Chandler (Hamilton Jordan,) and Richard Kind as Max Klein.  Clips used: Argo wins Best Picture (with Michelle Obama & Jack Nicholson Argo trailer Alan Arkin deals with “Max Klein”  John Chambers answers the production office phone Ending chase scene Argo score by Alexandre Desplat Book Vs Movie is part of the Frolic Podcast Network. Geraldo says it is time for the press to stop obsessing over the President, but given the latest revelation that AG Jeff Sessions failed to mention to the Senate Judiciary Committee a meeting with a Russian diplomat, that is unlikely.

Did the U.S. pay a 400 million dollar ransom for our hostages in Iran? The Iranians say we did, and the timeline looks somewhat fishy. Today I'm going to do what no media outlet has bothered to do and walks you through the entire story and explain what I think happened. What bothers me most about this story is how the government clearly lied to the American people. We now have media relations people working for the government who have the sole duty and responsibility of lying to the press and spinning the truth to the American people. This is a problem both caused and perpetuated by the media. Our first amendment provides for a free press to prevent just this kind of government abuse. Our "journalists" (and I use that term very loosely) refuse to hold government accountable for its statements. Instead of calling guys like John Kirby out as liars and deceivers, media outlets like Fox News provide Kirby a chance to put his spin on a damaging story. Unfortunately, new media doesn't have a seat at the political big kid's table, so they're forced to sit on the outside and criticize those that do. The reality is, this type of behavior will continue to get worse as long as our media refuse to do their job and expose these liars and thieves for what they truly are. JasonSupport the show.
