Hi friends! This week I make the case for how Krystal Sutherland's standalone Our Chemical Hearts is the book version of Olivia Rodrigo's record breaking debut drivers license. Both cover emotional and raw first loves and made me feel all the feels. Tune in and let me know what you think! I also upgraded my audio equipment with a new mic and let me say, $30 well spent. Obrigada as editoras parceiras, lojas, apoiadores e amigos. Feliz Natal e ótimo 2021! Livro: https://amzn.to/3oB0HzG Twitter: @termineicast

Erin and Paul review two films from iconoclastic screenwriter Paddy Chayefsky: the 1955 lonely-hearts drama MARTY, and the 1980 sci-fi headtrip ALTERED STATES. Plus: our quick takes on ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES, CHEMICAL HEARTS, A WILDERNESS OF ERROR, and DICK JOHNSON IS DEAD.
Henry Page is a teenager that believes that nothing in high school happens and that everything is boring and mundane. That was until he met a new mysterious girl, Grace Town. He falls in love with Grace and starts a relationship with Grace. As the relationship progresses, there is more and more secrets being held from Henry, breaking out Grace's past and her want to move forward with her life. This movie is based on Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland. In this episode, we talk about how romance can also be just as profound as a chemical reaction as well as curiosity mixed with passion. In reality, romance can be more complicated than the connection is worth. I mention the main character as Henry and the girlfriend as Grace (a.k.a Lili Reinhard). I want to let you know this to help make more sense of this review. This week I’m reviewing Amazon’s most recent teen romance with Kookie Kayla. She and I share both sides of how I was unjustly given the nickname “Tool Todd” (2:00). We also take a moment to reflect on the life and accomplishments of Chadwick Boseman (2:55). I then talk about my misfortune with Ice cream shops, including my most recent trip to Jeni’s (5:00). Briefly, I talk about my plans to start a run club (10:42), and as always provide my surfing update (13:00). Kayla makes her way through Random Rapid Fire (16:57) before we begin the review (22:10). We first dive into how the depiction of high school differs on screen from real life (23:44) and later I share the regrettable decision I made in 6th grade (51:19). Episode 88 of the Everyman Movie Review! I have a soft spot for Lili Reinhart, just generally speaking. I'm usually going to be on-board for anything she's a part of - and that means having to be up for Rom-Coms. A side benefit is, its a movie that everyone in the house can agree on as well - rather than a compromise (like usual). Another plus - ITS SOMETHING NEW! So, when Chemical Hearts popped up in the recommended list, it immediately went into the queue. Was I disappointed? Check out the episode to find out! Spoiler Alert at 12:12 Back to the Show at 15:47 Chemical Hearts Available on Amazon The Everyman Movie Review is a different kind of movie commentary - it's not about the art of movie-making, but rather about the enjoyment and entertainment of the film itself. It's not about me or my opinion, it's about the movie - does it deliver on what it promises? New episodes on Thursdays - subscribe to be notified when new episodes are available. Was gibt es neues? This episode is a Black & A Half Reviews edition. Silas is solo reviewing the films Chemical Romance from Amazon Studios and the new Netflix film 1BR, along with the new HBO series Lovecraft Country.
As a kid, Richard Tanne was rewarded for good behavior with a movie on the weekend. He quickly developed a love for Tim Burton films, then short stories, then plays, but the entire time, he knew he wanted to one day become a filmmaker. In this interview, Tanne discusses his first two features, Southside With You, about when the Obamas met in 1989 Chicago, and his latest film, Chemical Hearts, a high school romance built around pain and mortality. In this interview, the writer-director discusses dialogue-driven screenplays, why everyone should write a play or contained thriller, how to remove variables in the screenplay, and what it means to follow your inner compass as a creative. If you enjoyed this interview, look for the print version on Creative Screenwriting’s website, and join millions of viewers for the new YouTube video essay series, Creative Principles, which dissects new films, series, and more: bit.ly/2FARJz5

In this segment ThoseMovieDudes get together and shoot the shit over new mainstream films. Each week we will watch whatever new releases might come out in theaters, streaming sites or VOD and do a cute little review of them. Unlike the main podcast where we watch 3 acclaimed films, these ones may be a total dumpster fire. Theres only one way to find out and that's by sitting down and watching them, so you guys potentially don't have too. This week we watched 3 new release movies. First we talk about Ethan Hawke playing Nikola Tesla in a biopic called, Tesla. Then we take a stroll down memory lane with the coming to age drama, Chemical Hearts. Lastly we take a walk on the wild side with the real life story of a famous silverback gorilla known as the One and Only Ivan.Tesla (VOD), Chemical Hearts (Amazon Prime), The One and Only Ivan (Disney+)Make sure to head over to our instagram @thosemoviedudes and give us a follow! Also, leave us a review on Podbean! Whether its good or scathing it would really help out the show. Thanks for listening!

The gang is back together on this week's Backstage, as Claire returns from sunning it up on the coast! And the excitement doesn't stop there - Billie Piper and Lucy Prebble's new Sky Atlantic show I Hate Suzie is very, very good. Claire chats with Daniel Ings, who plays Suzie's husband Cob, about the project. Less exciting, however, is Disney+'s new family film The One And Only Ivan. It's got a stellar cast, and some great CGI animals, but it might even be too boring for some of your kids, let alone the grown-ups!Not one, but two teen movies for you this week. Babyteeth is out in cinemas now, and Chemical Hearts is on Amazon Prime. One's great - the other, not so much. And it's the devil himself - or is it? Netflix's Lucifer is back for part one of its fifth season, but something isn't quite right with the Hellish prince. Something also isn't quite right with the acting.Plus, Katie got to speak to actual living legend, Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, about his new art project, and there's a hint of some new music on the way...Get in touch via email. Chemical Hearts star and executive producer Lili Reinhart and writer-director Richard Tanne set out to make a quiet, meaningful high school film that isn't bubbly or past for short attention spans. The result is a teenage love story for introverts. In the film, based on a novel by Krystal Sutherland, a high school senior named Henry (played by Austin Abrams) is assigned to edit the school paper with a new student named Grace (Reinhart), who walks with a cane, dresses in typically male clothing, and doesn't like to talk about her past. They gain each other's trust slowly, in silences as much as through words. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Episode 112 TRAILER PARK! ‘Teenage Bounty Hunters’ - Our first trailer off the park this week is one that could be a surprise hit for us?! We have ‘Teenage Bounty Hunters’. Now I’ll admit, that title does not suck me in but after watching, I think I’m excited! Here we find the story of twin 16-year-old girls, trying to make their way through high school and love and losing their virginity AND also, they have teamed up with a grizzly old gentleman to become kick-ass bounty hunters!! With a trailer packed full of genuinely funny one-liners, hard-hitting action, and uncomfortably and illegal sexcapades, this may be one to check out! Smacking onto Netflix like a book thrown by a naked criminal into a 16-year-olds face, August 14! ‘Honest Thief’ - Well, well, well! Looks like Mr. I’m Now A Romantic Drama Star Liam Neeson wasn’t getting his kicks from starring in boring dramas! He’s back in the totally relatable action films we know him from with ‘Honest Thief’. Telling the story of the 106-year-old Neeson as an experienced Bank Robber, looking to turn himself in for a reduced sentence, so he can spend the rest of his life with his new girlfriend! Woot Woot! But when two crooked Feds try to frame him for murder and steal the money for themselves, it’s up to the man with the walking frame to take them down and reveal the truth before he is locked up forever and his girlfriend doesn’t forgive him! Awwww! Exploding into cinemas like an excessive amount of explosives used in a trailer, October 9! ‘Misbehaviour’ - Ser in rockin’ London in 1970 we find this trailer for ‘Misbehaviour’! Natalie Portman and Greg Kinnear star in this film surrounding the Miss World pageant. When Portman's character has had enough of the sexualized world surrounding pageants and the example it is setting for young girls in the world, she gathers together a group of women to fight back and to disrupt the competition. Standing up for what is right, the examples the media places on women and blatant sexism in the world, they fight to attend the event and literally… make noise during the pageant? Like, it’s all for a really good cause, and the meaning behind it is great but literally… I think the climax of the film is just them yelling during the telecast? Okay.. Snapping onto theatres and on-demand like a dirty old man saying ‘And Bikinis’, September 25. ‘Kajillionaire’ - ‘Kajillionaire’ tells the story of the ultimate family, living the American dream! A loving mother, father, and daughter do everything together. They eat together, they travel together and most importantly, they steal together. Yup, this criminal family has been doing this their whole lives, but not stealing big things, just packages from the post office, food, and water off airplanes, just small things. The title comes from Richard Jenkins' character saying ‘Most people want to be Kajillionaire’s, but me, I just prefer to get by’. And that is the way he and his wife have raised their mid twenty-year-old daughter until they bring a stranger in to help them with a big heist. Then she begins to question everything she knows. Expanding into theatres like a whole bunch of bubbles and foam, September 25th. ‘Black is King’ - Um…. okay…. so, here we have the trailer for Black is King. Imma just say this now, it’s streaming exclusively on Disney Plus now, it came out at the beginning of the week. So this ‘film’ is labelled as a ‘Visual Album’ from Beyoncé. Now what is a visual album you say? I have no fucking clue. But the trailer has a fair chunk of Narration so I imagine if this ‘film’ is released as an actual ‘album’, there’s going to be some weird ‘songs’ on it. I just, I don’t know anymore man. I mean, hey, that’s cool, you do you Queen Bey, but a ‘film’... that’s an ‘album’? I’m just so confused. And it says the ‘songs’ are reimagined from the Lion King (2019 version *barf noise*), reimagined for today’s youth in today’s society… but wasn’t that film about animals? And lions and zebras and shit? Not kids from the hood? I don’t know… I just…. yeah…. ‘Chemical Hearts’ - The trailer for ‘Chemical Hearts’ is as informative as it is gripping. This 2020 documentary surrounds the rise and some might say the peak of Australian rock legends Grinspoon and their monster hit ‘Chemical Heart’. Hailing from Lismore right here in New South Wales, the boys won Triple J’s unearthed competition in 1995 with the song ‘Sickfest’ and that’s where all the madness began. Following the triumphs of humble beginnings playing in pubs and clubs at open mics and rising through the ranks and annals of Aussie folklore, the documentary heavily focuses on the writing and recording of their 2002 album ‘New Detention’ from which the song ‘Chemical Hearts’ is taken. From groupies, cocaine, alcohol to mosh pits, join us on this epic Australian Rock journey like no other. *Pause for Effect* Just kidding, ‘Chemical Hearts’ is an Amazon original movie about two teenage kids trying to get through the murky waters of high school by writing for the school paper.
