On today's episode, I talk about Eric Nicksick's criticism of Sean Strickland's “uninspiring” performance at UFC 312. Then, Nate Diaz called me, and he told me he wants back with the UFC. Plus, Stipe Miocic claims Francis Ngannou would beat Jon Jones, but does the MMA math back him up? Jon Jones is back. So is Francis Ngannou. And Tom Aspinall? He's been here all along. So with all three big men scoring pivotal wins in 2024, who is the one true king of the heavyweight division? Is it Jones, the relative neophyte who is just 2-0 in the weight class, but still carrying the aura that comes with being undefeated throughout his career? Is it Ngannou, the lineal heavyweight champion who left the UFC without ever dropping his belt? Or is it Aspinall, the man who defended an interim heavyweight title while Jones sat on the sidelines waiting for a Stipe Miocic fight that lost intrigue with every passing day? Theoretically, there's no wrong answer, but the MMA Fighting rankings panel of Alexander K. Lee, Damon Martin, Jed Meshew, and E. Casey Leydon give their best arguments as to why each fighter has a claim to be No. 1. Follow Alexander K. Lee @AlexanderKLee Follow Damon Martin @DamonMartin Follow Jed Meshew @JedKMeshew Follow E. Jake Paul and Mike Tyson headlined a boxing event that was streamed by over 100 million people on Netflix this past Friday. While the card was a gigantic success, and the rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano delivered a Fight of the Year contender, the Paul vs. Tyson main event was underwhelming, and the Netflix experience appeared to be even worse. On an all-new edition of Between the Links, the panel reacts to the Paul vs. Tyson fight card, the good, the great, and the awful, if more of these events will happen, and what is next for Paul after the lackluster decision victory. Additionally, topics include Jon Jones' easy win over Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 309, the reaction from the MMA community, where Jones ranks pound-for-pound and if he'll fight Tom Aspinall — or anybody else — Charles Oliveira's lopsided win over Michael Chandler, Saturday's UFC Macau event headlined by Petr Yan vs. Deiveson Figueiredo, and more. The fights themselves were not necessarily the story for either Jake Paul or Jon Jones, during what has to be considered one of the biggest combat sports weekends in recent memory. For Jake Paul, it wasn't really that interesting that he went out there on Friday and beat the Ghost of Mike Tyson at Cowboy Stadium in front of a reported 65 million households on Netflix. The story was how many people watched, and how they reacted. Meanwhile, for Jones, his UFC 309 heavyweight championship fight against 42-year-old Stipe Miocic also went about as expected. The big plotline, though, is what Jones will do next. Also, HEY, did you know we're running a 50% off holiday special over at the CME Patreon? Also, current events including Mikey Musumeci signing with the UFC, Nick Diaz out of his fight with Vicente Luque, Tommy Fury vs Darren Till in boxing, Kron Gracie vs Bryce MItchell, Ian Machado vs Shavkat Rakhmonov, Colby Covington vs Joaquin Buckley and much more. What a wild weekend it was and MK is here to break it all down for you. BC and Luke are back in studio and kick-off the show by talking all things UFC 309. In the main event, Jon Jones made a dominant return from injury/layoff to retire Stipe Miocic via TKO3. In just his 2nd fight in 5 years and first in 18 months following surgery, Jones looked like a complete heavyweight threat. In what ways did BONY's destruction of Miocic add to his already GOAT-plated legacy? After his destruction of Stipe, Jon Jones said he wants "f**k you money" to fight Tom Aspinall, but still prefers theAlex Pereira fight. From all of the fight week rherotic to Jones' post-fight reaction, do you now believe he will fight Tom Aspinall next and that the UFC pay him handsomely enough to accept it? In the co-main event, Charles Oliveira held off a furious Michael Chandler rally to secure possible title shot. At 35, how much of a threat does Charles Oliveira still appear to be in terms of regaining the UFC lightweight title? Moving on to UFC 310, Luke and Brian react to the new card announcement, following Belal Muhammad's withdrawal and UFC's late replacements. And of course, we can't forget the boxing fight of the year as Jake Paul outpointed Mike Tyson in pointless, record-breaking Netflix main event. While it's easy for everyone to ask, in hindsight, "what did you expect" from a YouTuber and a 58-year-old, how much of a stain was it for boxing given the 65 million households watching globally that Tyson-Paul turned out to be nothing more than a scripted exhibition between friends? Given the controversy of Taylor-Serrano rematch, is there a market for a trilogy fight? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Jon Jones made it look easy in the main event of UFC 309 as he dominated Stipe Miocic for 14 minutes before delivering a devastating spin kick to the body that sent Miocic crumbling to the mat, which led to the former two-time champ announcing the end of his hall of fame career. The big question remains: Will Jones fight Tom Aspinall to unify the heavyweight championship of the UFC? Following Saturday's fight card at Madison Square Garden, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck and Jed Meshew react to Jones' brutal stoppage of Miocic, his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, and Miocic announcing his retirement. Additionally, they discuss Charles Oliveira's dominant win over Michael Chandler in the co-main event and the wild fifth round, Bo Nickal's win over Paul Craig that led to a chorus of boos from the MSG crowd, other notable performances from the fight card, and much more. Billi (@SGPSoccer) reacts to last night's Jake Paul v Mike Tyson matchup and undercard before moving onto the main event of UFC 309, which will see Jones Jones returning to the Octagon at MSG to take on Stipe Miocic.Jon Jones will finally get his wish with a fight against the UFC's most decorated heavyweight champion. This fight was booked for the November MSG event last year, but a torn pectoral forced Jones out of the bout. This would've been a true super fight a few years ago when the 42-year-old Miocic was closer to his prime and Jones was first testing the heavyweight waters. Now, it's been more than three years since Miocic fought and more than four since his last win— which explains why Jones is close to a -709 favourite in most places. On Saturday night at Madison Square Garden, UFC 309 will take place, and the main event will be the long-delayed match between arguably the greatest of all time in Jon Jones and possibly the greatest heavyweight of all time in Stipe Miocic. Even though these two are getting all the hype, there are still plenty of questions. Is this the fight everyone wants to see? What do these two fighters have to prove? When it's over, will these two legends fight anymore or walk away with their legacies? And what about interim champion, Tom Aspinall? Where does he fit into all this drama? To clear all this up, our combat sports expert Andreas Hale joins us to break down everything we should be watching for Saturday night and why – when it's all said and done – we still might have more questions than answers. Jon Jones' road to UFC 309 has been an interesting one, while Stipe Miocic has seemed to cruise through another UFC fight week en route to another chance at the heavyweight title. Has all of the Tom Aspinall chatter, the MMA fans, and the negativity surrounding Jones gotten to the current champ? Ahead of Saturday's return to Madison Square Garden, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck is joined by former UFC heavyweight, and past Jones opponent, Parker Porter to discuss the return of Jones as he competes for the first time in nearly two years, facing the former two-time champ, who makes his first appearance in nearly four years, where each fighter goes with a win, and if Tom Aspinall could still be left out of the undisputed title conversation. Additionally, topics include the thrilling lightweight rematch between Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler, other storylines heading into Saturday, and more. Matt Serra and Jim Norton are joined by a pair of fighters from this Saturday's UFC 309 card in bantamweight Jonathan Martinez and lightweight Jim Miller. Looking to get back in the win column after snapping a six-fight streak in a loss to José Aldo, Jonathan Martinez discusses what he learned from fighting the “King of Rio” in his backyard. Martinez previews his upcoming fight against Marcus McGhee before explaining how Vampire Diaries serves as his guilty pleasure in between grueling training sessions. Before Jim Miller joins, Jim and Matt make some of their UFC 309 fight picks. When Miller hops on, the 41-year-old veteran starts things off by explaining what it's like raising pigs on his two acres. As the conversation shifts back to MMA, Miller goes into detail about how he just can't shake that “addicting feeling” of making the walk to the cage as he gears up for his UFC record 45th fight with the promotion on this Saturday's prelims.

A huge fight week is underway with two massive events in boxing and the UFC, and you won't want to miss this episode of Morning Kombat! Luke and Brian kick things off by recapping this weekend's UFC Fight Night, where Carlos Prates scored a stunning knockout win over Neil Magny in the main event—his fourth KO of the year. With this victory, does Prates now solidify himself as a legitimate contender? Next, they dive into the highly anticipated Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight, the biggest combat sports showdown of the week. What's Jake Paul's ultimate goal in boxing, and what would a win over Tyson do for his career? Despite Tyson being the betting underdog, how real are his chances of victory? And what happens to Paul if Tyson pulls off the upset? Will this event boost boxing or tarnish its reputation? The discussion then shifts to UFC 309, where Jon Jones faces Stipe Miocic in a legacy-defining fight. If both fighters retire afterward, what does their legacy look like? Should the winner of the co-main event between Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler —or even the loser—face Max Holloway for the BMF belt next? Plus, how will the ongoing talk of Jones potentially ducking Miocic impact the fight? Finally, Luke and Brian wrap up the episode with a quick recap of ONE 169, as well as big wins from Jaron Ennis and Bam Rodriguez in boxing. Learn more about your ad choices. Albeit for very different reasons, we've been looking forward to both Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic and Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul for a while now. Both fights have experienced lengthy delays (one owing to Jones' torn pectoral, the other owing to Tyson “vomiting blood and defecating tar” on an airplane) and now they are going to share a single weekend. The spectacle that will be Tyson vs. Paul airs Friday night on Netflix, and perhaps even more than the fight itself, we're keen to see what the reaction will be on that platform. Jones and Miocic do the damn thing for the UFC heavyweight title the next night from Madison Square Garden in the main event of UFC 309. It'll be Jones' second foray into the big boy division, while Miocic returns for the first time since 2021. What will happen? Well, oddsmakers think they know. Is there any chance we might be surprised? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The guys take a trip down memory lane to highlight arguably the greatest rise to the top in the history of the sport! Plus, are fortune cookies the key to the success of the Good Guy & Bad Guy? On the latest episode of Morning Kombat, the guys recap a busy weekend of UFC News. First, at UFC Edmonton, Brandon Moreno looked fully rejuvenated in a one-sided win over Amir Albazi. Did he prove he's all the way back and if so, does this mean he gets dibs on the next flyweight title shot? Erin Blanchfield earned the decision win over Rose Namajunas, but did she really impress in the process? Plus, in other UFC News, Max Holloway released a video where he declared his future fights will be at lightweight instead of featherweight. To what extent is this the right call? Also, do we like the Ian Garry-Joaquin Buckley UFC Tampa headliner? If so, does the winner become the top contender behind Shavkat Rakhmonov? Moving to UFC 309, if Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic is fun and exciting, does that mean putting Tom Aspinall on timeout all this time was justified? And, we're less than 2 weeks out from Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson, what chance are we giving Tyson to win and what would it even mean if he did? Learn more about your ad choices.
