Roxy Striar & Coy Jandreau dive into the iconic 1998 teen horror/slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer, the chilling adaptation of Lois Duncan's novel that helped define a generation of late '90s horror. Directed by Jim Gillespie and written by Kevin Williamson (Scream, Dawson's Creek), the film follows four high school friends whose dark secret comes back to haunt them one year after a hit-and-run accident. Jennifer Love Hewitt (Party of Five, Ghost Whisperer) stars as Julie James, the guilt-ridden protagonist trying to unravel the mystery. Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cruel Intentions) plays Helen Shivers, a beauty queen with a tragic arc. Freddie Prinze Jr. (She's All That, Scooby-Doo) brings heart to the role of Ray Bronson, while Ryan Phillippe (Cruel Intentions, Shooter) is the hot-headed Barry Cox. The cast also features Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory, Roseanne) as Max and Muse Watson (NCIS, Prison Break) as the ominous Ben Willis—the mysterious fisherman with a hook for a hand. From its eerie coastal setting to its unforgettable chase scenes—especially Helen's iconic alleyway sequence—the film is packed with suspenseful, highly searched moments. The infamous “What are you waiting for?!” scream, the brutal hook attacks, and the final twist ending still resonate with fans today. Roxy & Coy revisit all the blood, thrills, and jump scares, unpacking the movie's legacy in the teen slasher canon and its impact on horror pop culture.

Oh, last summer, how memorable you were! With your floppy hats, plunging necklines, and fertile youths frolicking about on sandy beaches, full of hope and possibilities. The mind that brought us Dawson's Creek and Scream also brought us this movie, where Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Ghost Whisperer struggle through the teenage turmoils of love, friendship, and vehicular manslaughter. Can these busty teens come up with even the vaguest idea of how to solve a mystery? Will Ryan Phillippe look at Jennifer Love Hewitt's boobs? Will it turn out that David Egan or Billy Blue actually matter? Find out the answers to this and Sarah Michelle Gellar's breast-enhancing exercise techniques in the newest episode of this Freddy Prinze Jr. fancast! Jeff & Kim review slasher-lite "I Know What You Did Last Summer" from 1997. Kim also educates us on another British crime drama from the BBC called Whitechapel, in which detectives in London's Whitechapel district deal with murders which replicate historical crimes. Jeff also admits his favorite brain-off TV show is the Bob Barker-era of The Price is Right, which has a dedicated channel on PlutoTV. I Know What You Did Last Summer is a 1997 American slasher film directed by Jim Gillespie, written by Kevin Williamson, and starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe and Freddie Prinze Jr. It is loosely based on the 1973 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan and is the first installment in the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise. The film centers on four young friends who are stalked by a hook-wielding killer one year after covering up a car accident in which they killed a man. The film also draws inspiration from the urban legend known as "The Hook" and the 1980s slasher films Prom Night (1980) and The House on Sorority Row (1982). Jackie and Danielle continue with their summer theme and tackle the 1997 slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer. This week the lovely ladies of The Witchery Podcast join them as they take on the first installment of this slasher trilogy. The film is loosely based on the book with the same name. Scream writer Kevin Williamson drafted the screenplay while Jim Gillespie directed it. The movie features 90's stars Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Freddie Prinze Jr. I Know What You Did Last Summer takes place on the 4th of July and follows four friends after the events of an accidental death and murder of a bystander and the subsequent cover-up. A year later the four friends are then stalked by a hook-wielding killer. They then have to figure out who is the killer and stick together in order to come out of the situation alive. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nomorelatefees/support
