What did we think of what Mike Grier did (or didn't do) at the Trade Deadline? All of us -- San Jose Sharks legend Dan Boyle, insider Sheng Peng, and prospects guru Keegan McNally -- actually like how Grier approached March's silly season! There are two reasons why keeping pending UFAs like Mario Ferraro and company was a good idea: Boyle discusses the value of playing meaningful games for a young team. That includes, a short trip to the playoffs. Why aren't the San Jose Sharks calling up Luca Cagnoni? What was up with that left field Sergei Bobrovsky rumor? Finally, our thoughts on the William Eklund-for-Simon Nemec rumor: Was it realistic? What's Nemec's ceiling? Could Grier be holding on to Eklund for a bigger move? Steelers correspondent Mark Kaboly from the Pat McAfee Show joined the show. Where do the Steelers stand on Aaron Rodgers? Mark doesn't think the team will set a deadline, but the anticipation is that it will happen soon. What would have to happen for the Steelers to let Mason Rudolph and Will Howard drive the car? Mark insisted that Rodgers is still the Plan A for 2026. Mark isn't wiping a trade off the table that could happen over the weekend, like the DK Metcalf move from last year. More w/ Mark – Mark said Will Howard has the lovable personality which is a reason why he has so many fans without taking a snap as a rookie. Mark liked that Howard was present around the facility while he was on IR and thinks the players appreciate his attention to detail. The guys went through a list of pending UFAs and doesn't think many, if any, come back in 2026. He said Isaac Seumalo walking out the door is a team decision. Mark said Rachaad White would be an interesting name to look for. Will the Steelers bring back any of their depth defensive linemen? More w/ Mark – The guys made Kaboom try KFC jelly beans. Mark discussed his love for the word ‘gimmick.' Which outside free agents does Mark think will end up in Pittsburgh? Mark thinks a veteran guard will find his way to Pittsburgh and perhaps a former Browns OL. Mark said he wouldn't rule out anything with Omar Khan.
Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning begin the second hour discussing what a successful trade deadline might look like for the Toronto Maple Leafs. They outline the many possibilities of moving pending UFAs, restocking the prospect pool, or extending Bobby McMann or Scott Laughton. They also consider how Colton Parayko vetoing a trade might hint at how situations like Morgan Rielly's could unfold and whether the pressures of playing in Toronto differ from other markets. Later, they welcome Sportsnet's David Amber (28:10) to share some of his favourite trade deadline memories. D.A. discusses how busy this year's deadline could be across the league, whether teams will prioritize volume over marquee names, potential sell-offs, Parayko turning down a move to Buffalo, and the value of acquiring a goalie. The hour wraps up with a look at the biggest issue facing the Oilers as they head into the stretch run. Jamie Dodd and Thomas Drance break down a busy day around the Canucks and the NHL trade market. The guys react to Jett Woo being dealt to San Jose for Jack Thompson and discuss Woo's path from prospect to AHL champion in Abbotsford. Vancouver Giants head coach Parker Burgess joins to talk about the team's transition and the boost from adding Ryan Lin. Plus, Flames PxP voice Jon Abbott weighs in on Mackenzie Weegar's impact, Nazem Kadri's trade outlook, and why the Canucks must move pending UFAs like Teddy Blueger before the deadline. Jannik Hansen joins Jamie and Thomas to put the Canucks' tough loss into perspective, reminding fans that the Dallas Stars are among the NHL's elite but effort and pushback still matter. With the trade deadline approaching, the focus shifts to moving veterans for meaningful returns, not just flipping UFAs for late-round picks. Reports from Islanders beat writer Stefen Rosner suggest serious discussions between Vancouver and New York around Conor Garland possibly more than just a one-for-one deal. If the Canucks want to restock properly, this may be the type of swing they need to take. Fresh off Auston Matthews' gold-medal triumph with Team USA, we dive into what his international dominance really means for the Toronto Maple Leafs and their uneven season. We'll break down how Matthews' big-game performance and leadership can (and must) translate to a Leafs team still searching for playoff credibility, then zoom in on the brutal reality of their current standings, defensive issues, and overreliance on their stars as highlighted by recent coverage on TSN and Sportsnet. We'll lay out a clear plan for Brad Treliving heading into the NHL trade deadline: what kind of top-four defenceman and depth forward they should target, which pending UFAs and prospects should be in play, and why standing pat would send the wrong message to both the dressing room and their franchise centre. Finally, we debate whether this is the year to push more chips in or to make “smart aggression” moves that help now without mortgaging the future, all through the lens of Matthews' gold and the shrinking window around this core.
On This weeks best of Schopp and Bulldog listen back to their segment with Chad DeDominicis and what he wants to see from the Sabres after the Olympic Break, Mike Schopp and Bulldog talking about the idea of the Bills signing Mike Evans to the team and how much they love that idea, Cody Carpentier and his early takeaways from the 2026 draft class, Schopp and Bulldog on how much change the Bills will have this offseason with 23 UFAs on the roster and Chris Peters on the Women's Hockey gold medal .
Mike Schopp and Bulldog open the show talking about the Bills heading into the offseason with 23 UFAs they have to deal with. What moves do we expect to make if they were to lose guys like Connor McGovern or David Edwards, how many new additions will we see to the Bills defense. Which UFA will the Bills try to bring back, who do we want them to bring back?
Frankie Corrado sits in for Ray Ferraro for our Team Canada Olympic Preview. The fellas discuss Jon Cooper’s tendency to mix lines early, the intriguing fit of Tom Wilson alongside Connor McDavid and how McDavid, MacKinnon, and Crosby down the middle could pose matchup nightmares, especially for teams with a number of non-NHL defencemen. Canada's defence looks strong, though minutes behind Cale Makar remain a question, with Drew Doughty seen as a potential x-factor. Jordan Binnington is still the presumed Game 1 starter in goal and the guys think the schedule supports this assumption. Headlines include Cooper closing practice to media (likely much ado about nothing), Charlie McAvoy’s social media comments reigniting debate around head contact rules and your daily Maple Leafs rumours as Toronto weighs pushing back into the playoff race versus re-tooling around pending UFAs. Plus, Frankie's observations from a lacklustre Sens/Flyers game before the break and the growing Michkov discussion in Philly, with the Olympic pause framed as a clean reset for struggling players and teams.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning open the second hour by reacting to Craig Berube's comments on how his team is positioned heading into the trade deadline. They debate the Maple Leafs' approach to the post-Olympic stretch including selling scenarios, pending UFAs, goaltending confidence, and expectations for players like Anthony Stolarz and Matthew Knies after the layoff. They then shift to Blue Jays rumors involving Framber Valdez and envision what adding pitching depth could mean for the rotation. After the break, Raptors play-by-play voice Eric Smith (25:00) joins the guys to break down the Raptors' deadline plans, roster priorities, Jakob Poeltl's injury, Darko Rajaković's coaching performance, and the impact of the James Harden trade. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
Ben Ennis and Sho Alli wrap up Thursday by chatting with Nick Kypreos, co-host of Real Kyper and Bourne. They discuss the Leafs' recent performance against the Red Wings and its implications for the trade deadline. Topics include the team's pending UFAs, the power play, Morgan Rielly's role, and Mitch Marner's expected reception tomorrow night. The conversation shifts to the 20th anniversary of Kobe Bryant's 81-point game, with memories shared by Justin Termine (23:47) from SiriusXM NBA Today. They reflect on the Raptors' standing in the Eastern Conference, the evolving trade landscape, and celebrate Sho's birthday while considering Marner's contributions to the franchise. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliate.
Ben Ennis and Sho Alli open the second hour by with thoughts on Joseph Woll's comments about his expectations for Mitch Marner's return to Toronto on Friday. They also debate whether the team should consider selling after another loss, including listening to offers on pending UFAs like Bobby McMann and Scott Laughton, and weigh long-term roster building against Brad Treliving's job security. The guys then react to Bo Bichette's introductory press conference with the Mets and discuss whether the Blue Jays ever made a formal offer. After the break, they're joined by Sportsnet PGA reporter Adam Stanley (27:41) to talk about his one-on-one interview with Tiger Woods at a recent TGL event, Tiger's chances of returning to the Tour, Brooks Koepka's path back, the future of LIV Golf, and Brooke Henderson's involvement in the Women's TGL.The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

Welcome to Daily Faceoff Live with Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton! We start the show in Columbus and after their coaching change the Blue Jackets held off the Flames in a 5-3 win. Another struggling team, the Ottawa Senators, won last night as well. Both teams sit 6 points out of the last WC spot, but which group has the better chance to make the playoffs?A lot of teams are drifting in the middle of the standings and will have some difficult decisions at the deadline surrounding pending UFAs on their respective teams. Some veteran forwards on the Islanders, Sabres, and Blue Jackets along with two veteran bruisers on the back-end for the Ducks could draw plenty of attention should any of these teams move players at the deadline.Another team in that mushy middle stage is the Utah Mammoth. The Mammoth currently sit 7th in the Western Conference, but do they have enough offensive firepower to upset a Colorado or Vegas in the first round or should they sell some pending UFAs and look to add to their young core in a strong draft class?Jay Rosehill joins the show for The All 32 where we'll talk all things Toronto Maple Leafs, Auston Matthews, and if the Leafs can make and win a round in the playoffs.SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!
Welcome to Daily Faceoff Live with Tyler Yaremchuk, David Pagnotta and Steven Ellis! We start the show with an injury update in Toronto. Defensive stalwart Chris Tanev will likely miss the remainder of the regular season after considering surgery for a groin injury. How can the Leafs replace the veteran shutdown defender? The San Jose Sharks have signed center Alex Wennberg to a three-year contract extension with a $6 million AAV. The Sharks still have eight pending UFAs on their roster and are projected to have just under $50 million in cap space for next season. Will San Jose make any big splashes at the trade deadline or over the summer to bolster their young, talented core? The Vancouver Canucks continue to sit at the bottom of the Pacific Division, and trade talk is heating up around power forward Kiefer Sherwood. Meanwhile, the Nashville Predators are climbing the standings, but could veteran forward Steven Stamkos still be on the move as contending teams look to add a proven winner ahead of a potential Stanley Cup run?Steven Ellis joins the show for a World Juniors Gold Medal Preview. We'll talk about Canada's loss to Czechia, how this year compares to recent tournaments, the Czechia–Sweden matchup, how top draft-eligible players have performed, and his medal predictions for tonight.SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!
Nikita Tolopilo stole the show for Vancouver with 37 saves in a last-minute start against the high-flying Ducks, whose fire-wagon style continues to delight fans and make coaches nervous. The Canucks also signalled they’re “open for business” on pending veteran UFAs. In Winnipeg, Scott Arniel says the Jets are “in a funk” in recent games without Connor Hellebuyck, highlighting the gap between good goaltending and elite. Toronto edged Columbus in OT with Matthews and company returning from injury, though Auston’s 24-plus minutes in his first game back raises some eyebrows. Joe Woll’s strong outing matters with no timetable for Stolarz's return. Edmonton suffered yet another home blowout, stuck in a defensive spiral where effort isn’t the issue—execution is. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay (five straight), Minnesota (six straight), and Colorado (one regulation loss by U.S. Thanksgiving) are rolling, with the Avs looking every bit like a wagon. Plus, in Ask Ray & Dregs we discuss personal space between the benches, will Ovi chase 1000 and the effectiveness of "players-only" meetings.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Free agency day means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your earholes and bring you up to date on everything going on with the Edmonton Oilers. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed the Evan Bouchard extension, the NHL Draft, Kasperi Kapanen, and much more.We kicked off the Monday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about where everyone is at with Evan Bouchard's four-year, $10.5m AAV contract, and whether it's not more of a problem that Bowman wasn't able to lock in the max term. We also discussed the Oilers re-signing both Kasperi Kapanen and Noah Philp before they were able to reach free agency, likely with the plan of having both of these players start on the opening day roster. Chances are, the Oilers are going to be tight for cap space when October rolls around, and they'll need cheaper deals on the books to fill holes in the roster. With plenty of time left to go until the deals slow down, the boys walked through some of our former friends who signed elsewhere on Tuesday, including Corey Perry's new deal in Los Angeles and Connor Brown's contract in New Jersey. While we all expected a quieter day in Edmonton given the team's lack of cap space, that doesn't make it any easier to see contributing roster players sign for big smoke in other markets. Regardless, the deals signed in the early hours on July 1st don't mean the Oilers are anywhere close to done, but that didn't stop many Oilers fans from being disappointed anyway.Regardless of what the Oilers have done or haven't done yet, there's little doubt that teams are spending big money on free agents with the salary cap expected to fly up over the next handful of years. In fact, one could make the argument that the Oilers could be better off avoiding some of these overpriced free agents, especially with the dollars that some mid-tier UFAs are signing on extended deals. Is that coping? Potentially yes. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

To help project what the rest of the series holds, they enlist the services of Sportsnet's own David Amber, who is in Florida as part of the broadcast crew. He offers his insight into what caused the Oilers to lose their composure, along with what makes Florida so good at getting under their opponent's skin.
