Rebecca Heineman, a pioneering programmer and game designer, has passed away at age 62 from adenocarcinoma. Heralded as the ‘first-ever video game champion,’ she co-founded Interplay Productions (creators of Fallout and Wasteland) and later founded two more studios, Contraband Entertainment and Logicware. Heineman was also a trailblazer for transgender game developers, transitioning mid-career in 2003, and was honored with the Gayming Icon Award for her work and advocacy. Old School Essentials (OSE) will have a 2026 Update, which aims to streamline the core product line of the beloved old-school RPG. Necrotic Gnome is consolidating its five existing core products into two definitive, 256-page hardcovers: the OSE Player's Book and Referee's Book, based on the popular Advanced Fantasy ruleset. The new books will feature a new cover design, approximately 200 new illustrations, enhanced introductory material, a glossary and index, and minor rule tweaks and optional rules (like training and XP for magic items). Crucially, the update ensures 100% compatibility with older OSE books and makes the entire core game 100% OGL-Free for long-term legal safety. Both Fantasy Grounds and Alchemy VTT announced that their core platforms are now completely free to play. Fantasy Grounds removed its previous one-time license or recurring subscription barrier, allowing Game Masters and players to host and join unlimited games immediately. Its developer, SmiteWorks, also launched a beta for a web-based Fantasy Grounds Online Reader. Similarly, Alchemy VTT is now free with unlimited access to games, characters, game systems (“Universes”), and asset uploads, replacing its subscription with an optional “Alchemist” supporter model. Guests: Blue Jays infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa, catcher Tyler Heineman The Blue Jays had a rare losing week, but still carried a three-game lead in the American League East into Thursday's rubber match against the AL West-leading Houston Astros. Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Tyler Heineman both played huge roles in the Jays securing the first game of the series, and they both join us this week in Deep Left Field. Kiner-Falefa, signed to a two-year deal before last season, traded to Pittsburgh at the 2024 trade deadline and re-acquired on waivers just before the September 1 playoff eligibility deadline, talks about how he fell in love with Toronto years ago and how happy he is to be rejoining the team for the stretch drive. With Bo Bichette sidelined with a knee injury, IKF is going to play a greater role than anticipated and he discusses that, as well as how much he loves hitting in Toronto. Heineman couldn't have picked a better time to have a career year. As Alejandro Kirk's back-up, he is currently posting career highs in batting average, slugging percentage, home runs and even stolen bases. He's also throwing out base stealers at a higher rate than he ever has before. Tuesday night he picked up the first walk-off of his career. All that plus a look back at The Week That Was and your emails on Episode 278 of Deep Left Field!
Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker break down the Blue Jays' 4-3 walk-off win over the Astros in the series opener! They take your calls and texts, and discuss the effort from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. - how important were his plays in extras, including throwing out Jose Altuve at third base, and beating out an infield single? They get into the contributions from the bottom of the order, as Isiah Kiner-Falefa tied in the game in the ninth, while Tyler Heineman won the game in the tenth. Plus, they discuss the contributions of the bullpen, including Jeff Hoffman in extras, and the importance of getting to the Astros bullpen as well. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning open with thoughts on the Blue Jays' wild extra-inning comeback over the Astros! They spotlight George Springer's longest homer of the year, Isiah Kiner-Falefa's ninth-inning knock, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s big defensive play, Tyler Heineman's walk-off (plus the smoke-show postgame), and a bullpen that suddenly looks steady. They also hit on Bo Bichette's move to the 10-day IL and the 13-game gauntlet ahead. After the first break, they tackle the unthinkable: could Sidney Crosby actually leave Pittsburgh? Plus, the latest on the Hughes brothers reunion buzz. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker look back on the Blue Jays' eventful series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates, a 5-2 loss at PNC Park. They discuss Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s exit, the Jays' sloppy fielding, Tommy Pham's tiff with Tyler Heineman and his later social-media outburst. Later, Blue Jays Central analyst Joe Siddall (31:18) shares his thoughts on Heineman and Pham's dust-up from a catcher's POV, Kevin Gausman's outing, and Addison Barger's growth as a hitter. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

They take your calls and texts, and get right to the offensive performance from George Springer, who delivered a late-game two-run bomb - is this one of the best seasons of Springer's Blue Jays career? They discuss Tyler Heineman continuing to stand out as the team's backup catcher, the catching tandem as a whole, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. knocking in what proved to be an important insurance run. Plus, they get to Kevin Gausman's quality start, and discuss the high leverage outing for Braydon Fisher as well. Producers Fred Berger and Alex Heineman take us behind the scenes of A Complete Unknown, a biopic of legendary artist Bob Dylan. A movie six years in the making, Berger and Heineman share how they started this journey by casting a young Timothée Chalamet fresh out of Call Me by Your Name. Chalamet dedicated himself to this role, spending his time mastering piano, guitar, and how to exactly capture Dylan's distinctive voice. Berger and Heineman also dive into how critical James Mangold was in bringing this film to life, never sacrificing the creative and emotional core that was at the heart of Bob Dylan's rise to fame. Nominated for eight Academy Awards, there is no doubt that this film will be at the forefront of audiences' minds for years to come. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

He's not holding back on his secrets for those lightning-fast ball exchanges either; this episode is a goldmine for catchers aiming to fine-tune their craft to elite levels, focusing on speed, accuracy, and the game-changing techniques of legends like Yadier Molina and Jonah Heim.Step up to the plate as we break down the mechanics of catching with precision - it's more ballet than brute force. You'll be privy to the wisdom of fine-tuning your movements for maximum efficiency, the importance of syncing your catch with foot placement, and how shoulder-knee alignment can drastically improve your game. This isn't just about the flashy plays; it's about the detailed practice and staying sharp in the chaos of the game. We dissect the psychological warfare that is catching, from managing the 'oh crap' moments to fine-tuning your game-time reflexes. It's all about the cat-and-mouse game with the batter, and we lay out the tactics that will keep you one step ahead. But what's all this skill without the right mindset? As we delve into the cerebral part of the game, you'll learn why a catcher's role goes far beyond catching balls and calling pitches. It's about being the backbone of the team, the unsung hero who's part psychologist, part strategist, and all leader. We pay tribute to the defensive wizards like Jeff Mathis, whose bats may not always sizzle but whose presence behind the plate is invaluable. And because every catcher deserves a good meal after a hard day's work, we'll even throw in a shoutout to my favorite breakfast haunt, Batter Up in Fresno – the perfect spot to fuel up for your next game. Grab your mitt and join us for an episode that's a home run for catchers and baseball aficionados alike.

Back in Northeast Ohio after winning awards at the Berklee College of Music, Grant very quickly worked his way into being an in demand pianist on the scene before decamping for Los Angeles in the fall. One of the earlier episodes of our program featured him in a trio, but the addition of Atlanta born saxophonist Ronell Regis to that trio takes an already talented lineup of up and comers from very good to great. Featuring Ronell Regis on saxophone, Taylor Arborgast on bass, Colin Dorion on drums, and Grant on piano and vocals, and from a March 17th, 2023 performance it's the Grant Heineman Quartet – Live at the Bop Stop. Live at the Bop Stop is made possible by The Music Settlement – serving Northeast Ohio by offering music instruction, music therapy, and early childhood education since 1912. Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens
Inside today's Locked on Canadiens It was a great game for the Montreal Canadiens, until it wasn't. The Habs squandered a two goal lead thanks to some questionable officiating, before losing in a shootout that needed ten total rounds. Scott continues to be frustrated by the distribution of ice time as Josh Anderson and Joel Armia continue to prove ineffective once again. Can the Canadiens and Martin St. Louis find a solution to get the offence in gear, and give more ice time to some of the younger players? Prior to the game against the Penguins, the Montreal Canadiens also made a roster move, recalling forward Emil Heineman from the Laval Rocket while shifting Tanner Pearson to the IR. So who is Emil Heineman, and how can the Habs get the most out of the winger coming up from the AHL? Finally, World Juniors is right around the corner, and we have our first(but surely not last) confirmed prospect suiting up in the form of Owen Beck. After being a late addition to the team last year due to an injury, and eventually ending up with a gold medal, what are the expectations for Beck this year? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
