We have a slew of volleyball questions for Jacob as their season is close to getting underway. How John Cook plans to use his returning production, and his plans to rotate players in and out. Is there a chance the Huskers DON'T make another deep run? What's next for Jordan Larson?
From a national title with the legendary Nebraska Huskers to bronze, silver and gold with Team USA in the Olympics, Jordan Larson has won every volleyball honor imaginable. For many people that is a complete resume, but for Larson that was never enough. What she sought from the game was an emotional connection to her peers, her hometown and her family. And as her career winds down she often finds herself reflecting on those lost connections of what could have been and – since the loss of her mother – what should have been. Today, Aishwarya Kumar shares the time she spent with Jordan Larson and reveals an intimate portrait on one Team USA's Olympic legends. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In the latest episode of the Pick Six Podcast, Sam McKewon is joined by Tom Shatel to discuss their initial thoughts on Nebraska's Big Ten football schedule for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Tom doubles down on his weekend column's comments about Nebraska moving on from slumming in the Big Ten West and the two talk about why the reaction was so negative on social media, particularly from neighbors across the Missouri River (6:00). The pair then go into a deeper conversation on Iowa's role as a sort of "gatekeeper" to the old Big Ten and how this adds into the rivalry with the Huskers. They also chat about how the new schedule format will help Nebraska attain its goal of wanting to be a great program again and open up the potential for CFP berths down the road (14:00). They then shift to the softball news of Papillion-La Vista grad Jordy Bahl announcing her transfer from Oklahoma after winning back-to-back WCWS and how significant her potential arrival to Nebraska would be for the sport as a whole in the state (28:40). Finally, the duo wrap up the episode by reacting to the news of Jordan Larson coming back to the Nebraska volleyball program as a full-time assistant this fall (38:50) and Will Bolt tabbing Rob Childress as the Huskers' new pitching coach (46:00). It was awesome to bring back Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss to talk about their transition to professional beach volleyball and what makes their partnership tick so well. I always say you must have enough talent to compete for championships, but how well you attack the non-technical aspects of your sport often determines if you and your team can max out when it matters the most. One of the few positive events to come out of the COVID-19 pandemic was the unlikely partnership of Taryn and Kristen while playing for the Beach Volleyball program at LSU. Even though they went undefeated while paired together during their last season at LSU, winning AVCA Beach Pair of the year, their rapid ascent to the top professional ranks in their first full year on the AVP Tour in 2022 has surprised many people. I have known Taryn since her days at Creighton University, where she played indoor volleyball, and have had the pleasure to watch her grow as a person and in her sport, so nothing surprises me with her—and if you know Kristen, she is the engine that drives home excellence. I love talking about growth through adversity, so it should not surprise you that my favorite part of our conversation was their performance struggles during 2022. But that laid the foundation for their next growth level, leading them to be named the AVP Beach Team of the year in 2022! This episode is brought to you by the Max Out Mindset Video Series for Volleyball: 7 PowerPoint-driven sessions taught by Dr. Widman covering Preparing your Mind for Battle, Max Out your Mind & Max Out your Team. Todd and I got together and discussed a wide range of topics, including: - What did the Big Ten do during Nebraska's bye week. - Adrian Martinez' big day against Oklahoma - Depth chart changes: Not as extensive as we thought - Nebraska is favored against Indiana! Baseball - Our beloved Huskers beat UNO Saturday in fall ball Volleyball - The #3 team in the nation swept Michigan State, then beat Ohio State (a team that beat them twice last year) in an error-filled match that went five sets Todd points Jordan Larson and Jordan Burroughs are the best athletes in their sports in US History and both are Nebraska athletes As always we take viewer comments. This week we sit down with the USA lady legend of volleyball. We go over so many important topics for young aspiring volleyball players. From what it takes to get to the top, to how she found motivation to continue even after years of success and accolades. This conversation was super insightful.
Recorded mid-July, I had the opportunity to virtually sit down with former-Pepperdine Men's Coach/current Texas Longhorn Associate Head Coach, David Hunt, and his wife, 3x Olympic Medalist (Bronze, Silver, Gold) and Longhorn Volunteer Coach, Jordan Larson. They had a huge year with a lot of transition as a first-year married couple, so we delve on career changes, life and coaching. In Part 2, they mainly discuss coaching, influences and player-training dynamics.

Coach David Hunt has been a force in the volleyball world at virtually every level. He has worked at the highest levels in both Men's and Women's volleyball, including in the Olympics and the international world. On the podcast, he articulates his journey, vision, and gratitude for his mentors so well. His growth mindset and willingness to become vulnerable as a coach shine throughout. He has just transitioned back to the women's game as the Associate Head Coach for the University of Texas. It was very enjoyable to learn from him, and I look forward to watching him continue to shine. Oh, by the way, he is Jordan Larson's husband. (that's a joke from the podcast!) Jordan Larson is a three time (2012, 2016, 2021) USA Olympic Women's Volleyball player. Her 2021 Olympics win allowed her to complete the trifecta of winning an Olympic bronze, silver, and gold medal. Not bad for a kid from Hooper Nebraska. Jordan started her college volleyball career at the University of Nebraska. In 2006, she led the Huskers to the NCAA title and was named to the AVCA All-America First Team. In 2008, as a senior, she was named to the AVCA All-America First Team. She was also chosen as the Big 12 Player of the Year and the league's defensive player of the year; it was the first time that a player achieved both in the same year. Over her four-year college career, Larson had a total of 1,600 kills and 1,410 digs. Larson graduated from the University of Nebraska in 2008 with a degree in communications studies. On June 7, 2021, US National Team head coach Karch Kiraly announced Larson would be part of the 12-player Olympic roster for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, her third straight Olympic Games. She has discussed how this would be her last Olympics, and she became the fifth oldest volleyball player in USA history to be named to an Olympic roster. We talk about how it all started, growing up a small mid west town of 800 people, leadership, marriage and coaching. In January 2022, Larson was named as an assistant coach for the University of Texas women's volleyball team, her first collegiate coaching role. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/matt-brown57/support
