Rebuilding a company is one of the hardest challenges any founder can face. But for Justin McLeod, founder and CEO of Hinge, it was the only way forward. In today's episode of Building One, Tomer Cohen sits down with Justin to dive into the journey of rebooting Hinge from a Tinder competitor to the fastest-growing dating app in the U.S., focused on helping people build meaningful, long-term relationships. Justin shares the lessons he learned from tearing down Hinge and starting over, emphasizing intentional product design, clear product principles, and how to avoid chasing engagement for engagement's sake. As the dating app designed to be deleted, Hinge is built around one core goal: getting people into relationships and off the app. Justin's approach to onboarding, user interaction, and product design has created a platform that fosters genuine connections while avoiding the pitfalls of shallow dating apps. In this episode, Justin reveals: Why Hinge intentionally loses 20% of new users during onboarding to ensure better quality matches How limiting user actions can improve the overall user experience and lead to more meaningful interactions The importance of finding good proxies for key metrics, especially when your core goal is difficult to measure (like getting people into relationships) The role of AI as a coach - not a replacement - for human-to-human interactions How product principles can help companies make tough decisions and stay true to their mission Follow Justin McLeod on LinkedIn. When Justin McLeod decided he had to reboot Hinge, three years after he had founded the dating app service, he had his doubts. It took a member of his team to remind him: "You're the CEO. What's stopping you?" At the same time — and for many the same reasons — McLeod decided he needed to reboot his company: to create a transparent environment where colleagues were invested in their work and each other's success. At scale. It's why Hinge has an impressively small voluntary turnover rate of 3%. And it's not about the perks. "People actually work very hard at Hinge, but it's that they feel like they are part of a team," Justin told me for This Is Working. "They feel like they have a purpose. They're working with people who are like-minded and like-valued and just doing work that they love. And I think ultimately that's what allows people to feel fulfillment and feel a level of sustainability with their work." Listen in for McLeod's insights on how to manage relationships, teams, and an enterprise.

We knew coming into Selection Sunday, and we would see some very controversial decisions. NOBODY was prepared for what actually happened. We will attempt to make sense of all of it in today's episode. Justin McLeod joins Eric Lopez and Victor Anderson as they look at the Field of 64, the reasoning behind Alabama's No. 5 seed, why Louisiana didn't host (and Clemson did), and some of the other juicy topics that came up on Sunday night. Plus, we will replay our interviews on Selection Sunday night with Caylan Arnold and Dorian Craft.

In 2010, Justin McLeod was in business school, still trying to get over a bad breakup that had happened years before. Determined to solve his own problem and convinced that the best way to meet people was through friends of friends, he built an app to replicate that experience. Gradually, Hinge grew into a streamlined swiping platform that yielded mixed results: good dates, bad hookups, mismatched swipes, and missed opportunities. Disappointed with this outcome and inspired by a sudden twist in his own love life, Justin redesigned Hinge as an app for finding meaningful relationships, with the tag line "designed to be deleted." Today, Hinge is owned by Match Group and is one of the most popular dating apps in the U.S.This episode was produced by J.C. Kate McLeod on bringing a baking background to beauty: 'The pastry chef in me came alive'

The road from investment banking to baking to beauty isn't obvious, but it's a circuitous career path that led Kate McLeod to launch her eponymous skin-care brand. “I was a trader at Goldman Sachs and ended up leaving Goldman and went to culinary school. I had a made-to-order bakery and I loved what I was doing, but then life always changes,” said McLeod on the most recent episode of the Glossy Beauty Podcast. “Something very unexpected happened — I was living abroad — that brought me back to New York City in 2015.” McLeod reunited with a former boyfriend, Justin McLeod, founder and CEO of Hinge, thanks to the help of a New York Times journalist, and the two married shortly thereafter. With her love life on track, McLeod started rediscovering her own passions and personal rituals. A chance introduction by her sister-in-law to solid cocoa butter, the key ingredient of her now hero body stones, led her to play with the material in a deeper way. “The pastry chef in me came alive,” she said. “I also have a really long history and training of working with chocolate, so I took the cocoa butter into the kitchen and I thought, 'If I play with this, pretend I'm making a good ganache, what can I do to enhance that application process?' That's really what sets us apart.” Thanks to a key endorsement from Naomi Watts, McLeod went from handmaking her body stones for friends and family to selling 20 body stones in a day in Watts' Onda Beauty and then 40 more on a weekend. It was then that McLeod went from wrapping her stones in parchment paper to repackaging them in canisters with an official brand label. Three years later, the line is now sold at QVC and Sephora.

Just when you thought we would have a quiet weekend in softball....there's really no such a thing. We have plenty to discuss on this episode of In The Circle. The guys are joined by Justin McLeod from Extra Inning Softball who broke the news of Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro set to be named the next head coach at Memphis. They break down what it means for both programs and where Coach Murphy goes to fill out his staff.   Eric and Victor take a look at the NJCAA's new deal with ESPN starting this year along with the significance of softball within the deal. How will this impact NJCAA's coverage overall? Where does Division 2 and Division 3 go from here? We also breakdown the Big Ten's new deals with CBS & NBC plus why seeing Big Ten Softball will get a lot harder in a couple of years.   We wrap up the episode by looking back at the inaugural Golden Mic Awards which were announced last month on Extra Inning Softball as well as the state of softball broadcasting as we press forward into the 2023 season and beyond.
