Legal expert Neama Rahmani, a former federal prosecutor and president of West Coast Trial Lawyers, has analyzed Sean "Diddy" Combs' defense strategy amid his serious legal challenges. Rahmani emphasizes that Combs' primary defense hinges on demonstrating that all sexual encounters were consensual. Given that the allegations involve adults, establishing consent is crucial to countering charges of sex trafficking and related offenses. Rahmani notes, "The only chance he has of winning this case is if witnesses testify and jurors believe that it was consensual."However, Rahmani acknowledges the significant obstacles Combs faces in this defense. The prosecution reportedly possesses substantial evidence, including video recordings of the alleged incidents, which could corroborate the accusers' claims and challenge the consent argument. Rahmani points out that such evidence is compelling, stating, "Witnesses can lie but a video never lies."This suggests that overcoming the prosecution's case will be challenging, as the available evidence may undermine the defense's assertions of consensual interactions. In this episode, we hear from Mr. Rahmani as we continue to navigate our way through the case against Diddy. Lecture summary: At a time where questions abound about the state and future of international cooperation and compliance across the international legal system, this lecture will consider the new partnership of countries established in 2019 to promote and protect media freedom globally – the Media Freedom Coalition of States. The Coalition offers a new paradigm that seeks to answer some of the systemic challenges to State cooperation and compliance today, here in the area of freedom of expression, and one that puts independent experts in international law at the very centre of its institutional and operational framework. The lecture will chart the establishment and work of the Coalition, through the perspective of its independent panel of legal experts, the High Level Panel of Legal Experts on Media Freedom, and the Panel’s work advising States and international organisations across a broad panoply of media freedom issues, and answering requests by international courts and tribunals to intervene in cases of public importance engaging Article 19 of the ICCPR and UDHR. It will focus on examples of areas where specific recommendations by legal experts have already been turned into State policy and practice (for instance, with the creation and implementation of an emergency visa for journalists at risk), and areas where the progress towards implementation has been altogether more challenging. Five years on from its establishment, the Media Freedom Coalition finds itself at a crossroads, while its tri-partite structure of States, legal experts, and civil society is already being replicated by States in other areas of international legal cooperation and compliance. Speaker Biography: Can Yeğinsu is a barrister practising from 3 Verulam Buildings in London where he practises in commercial litigation, international commercial and investment arbitration, public law and human rights, and public international law. Prof Yeğinsu is also a long-standing member of the Law Faculties of Georgetown Law, Columbia Law, and Koç University Law School where he teaches courses on public international law, including courses on international dispute settlement, international human rights, and international investment law. In 2022, Prof Yeğinsu was appointed by the Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury, with Catherine Amirfar, to succeed Amal Clooney as the Deputy Chair of the High Level Panel of Legal Experts on Media Freedom, having served as a member of the Panel since its established in 2019.

In the latest developments regarding the Richard Allen trial, jury questionnaires have been sent out to 600 residents in Allen County, Indiana. These potential jurors will be crucial for what is expected to be one of the most high-profile murder trials in the state's history. The questionnaires are part of the pre-trial preparations as the court gears up for the trial, which is scheduled to start in October 2024. Jury selection is expected to take three days, with 100 potential jurors being interviewed each day until a jury and alternates are finalized. The questionnaires are a standard procedure aimed at understanding potential jurors' backgrounds, biases, and availability, which will help in selecting an impartial jury for the trial. This is especially critical given the intense public interest and media coverage surrounding the case, which involves the murders of Abby Williams and Libby German in Delphi, Indiana, back in 2017.The trial has already seen multiple delays, partly due to the complex legal issues surrounding Allen's mental health and alleged confessions. Allen reportedly made over 60 incriminating statements while in prison, though his defense argues that these confessions were coerced and made during a period of severe mental distress. The defense has also raised alternative theories involving other suspects, which they claim should be considered during the trial. The court will further review motions regarding which evidence and testimonies will be admissible, including whether Allen's alleged confessions will be presented to the jury. The outcome of these decisions will significantly impact the proceedings once the trial begins.(commercial at 8:59)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Juror questionnaire in Delphi homicide case ‘unconventional' says legal expert | WANE 15
