Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors
I recently discovered The Girls with Grafts podcast through Instagram, and as a burn victim myself, I was instantly drawn to the show. Having experienced a car fire that resulted in burns covering 50% of my body, the loss of my right arm, a traumatic brain injury (TBI), and ongoing battles with PTSD, I am always seeking resources and support within the burn survivor community. This podcast seems to provide just that, and I am excited to dive into the episodes and gain valuable insights from fellow burn survivors.
The best aspects of The Girls with Grafts podcast are many. First and foremost, both hosts are burn survivors themselves, which brings an authentic perspective to their interviews and discussions. Their personal experiences allow them to connect deeply with their guests and ask meaningful questions. The choice of guests on the show is also commendable - they bring in individuals who have inspiring stories to share about their journeys through burn injuries. These stories not only provide hope and inspiration but also serve as reminders that we are not alone in our struggles. Additionally, the hosts cover relevant topics that are both interesting in general and highly useful for the burn survivor community and those who support us.
While it is challenging to find any flaws in a podcast dedicated to helping burn survivors like me, it's worth mentioning that some listeners may have differing preferences when it comes to interview styles or production quality. However, these minor critiques do not significantly detract from the overall value of The Girls with Grafts podcast.
In conclusion, I am thoroughly impressed with what I have learned about The Girls with Grafts podcast so far. Amber and Rachel have created an informative yet entertaining platform that sheds light on important issues within the burn survivor community. They are passionate advocates who share invaluable information while simultaneously raising awareness about stories of survival, advocacy, and more. As someone navigating life after a devastating burn injury, this podcast feels like a lifeline - offering support, understanding, and a sense of community. I look forward to continuing to listen and learn from this incredible resource.

Meet Our Guest Medley Zeigler Bokun, BSN, RN graduated from nursing school at Southeastern Louisiana University at the end of 2017 and immediately began her career at a Women's Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA working as a med-surg and oncology nurse. In June of 2019 she married her wonderful husband, who at the time was a third year medical student. Just three short weeks after their wedding, they were in a gas explosion in their home. It was nearly fatal for both of them, but Medley especially sustained second, but mostly third degree burns across 96% of her body. Her chance of survival was not high, but God had other plans. Now Medley and her husband, Kevin, feel that God has called them from a place of medical ministry to a ministry that's focused on spiritual and emotional healing. Medley and her husband now travel and speak at conferences, churches and social gatherings sharing their story of survival. And most recently in February of 2024, they welcomed their first baby into the world, a sweet baby boy named Levi.
