Ajahn Hasapanna discusses sutta MN13 from the Majjhima Nikaya: Mahādukkhakkhandha Sutta, "The Greater Discourse on Mass of Suffering". Ajahn Hasapanna is using Bhikkhu Bodhi's translation https://suttacentral.net/mn13/en/bodhi Read MN13 on Sutta Central here. "Challenged to show the difference between his teaching and that of other ascetics, the Buddha points out that they speak of letting go, but do not really understand why. He then explains in great detail the suffering that arises from attachment to sensual stimulation.", Sutta Central. Welcome back to the Sutta Meditation Series Podcast.A short extract or audio clip from a recent Dhamma Half-Day Program, held on 17 March 2025, where we intensely developed sutta meditations to understand the Physical Nutriment (form). This short audio clip serves as an encouragement to anyone developing the insight pathways or sutta meditations following the Buddha's instructions.External challenges are usually obvious, but what is less apparent is how we self-sabotage ourselves when it comes to developing or meditating on the Buddha's instructions.Take what is useful. Ajahn Dhammasiha reads out and discusses Anguttara Nikāya / Numerical Discourses of the Buddha, Book of Fours, No 21.Shortly after his supreme awakening, the Buddha reflects that without anything to look up to and respect and revere, one dwells in suffering. However, not finding any being in the whole universe that would exceed him in virtue, or samādhi, or wisdom, or release, the Buddha decides to respect, honour and esteem the Saddhamma that he discouvered. Brahma Sahampati appears to confirm to the Buddha that actually all the Buddhas of the past did exactly the same thing, revering the Saddhamma, and all the Buddhas arising in the future will do likewise. He then recites 3 verses expressing that reality, which the Buddha approves of. We will install 4 bronze plaques on the four sides of our Saddhamma Stupa with the verses of Brahma Sahampati, extolling the Saddhamma and the importance of respecting and remembering it:Ye ca atītā Sambuddhā Ye ca Buddhā anāgatā Yo c'etarahi SambuddhoBahūnaṃ sokanāsanoAll Buddhas of the distant past, And all the Buddhas yet to come, The Buddha of our present time, Who freed so many from all grief;Sabbe saddhammagaruno Vihaṃsu viharanti caTathāpi viharissantiEsā buddhāna dhammatā.They live, will live, have always livedRevering the authentic truth,The Dhamma that they realized -This is the nature of Enlightened Ones.Tasmā hi attakāmena MahattamabhikaṅkhatāSaddhammo garukātabboSaraṃ Buddhāna sāsanan'tiAnd thus, for your own happiness, For your own lasting benefit, Revere the truthful Dhamma here, Remember what the Buddha taught!Dhammagiri WebsiteOur Spotify PlaylistsNewsletterDhammagiri Youtube ChannelPics#respect #saddhamma #brahma #buddha #buddhastory #buddhistwisdom

We've arrived at the big one, the breakthrough book of 1985 – White Noise. In Episodes 21 and 22, DDSWTNP extend our White Noise “residency” and turn in-depth attention to DeLillo's most popular piece of fiction in another double episode. Episode 21: White Noise (1) takes an expansive view of the novel's narrative and goes into depth on (among many other subjects) the iconic opening chapter's commentary on America and Americana, the meaning of Mylex suits, Jack's relationships with Heinrich and Orest Mercator, and what it means to be a rat, a snake, a fascist, and a scholar of Hitler in this book's universe. Episode 22: White Noise (2) interprets passages mainly from the book's second half, including scenes featuring the dark humor of Vernon Dickey and of SIMUVAC, the meaning of DeLillo's desired title “Panasonic,” Jack's shooting of Willie Mink (and what it owes to Nabokov), a riveting fire and a fascinating trash compactor cube, and the Dostoevskyan interrogation of belief by Sister Hermann Marie. Every minute features original ideas on the enduring meanings of White Noise in so many political, social, technological, and moral dimensions – what it teaches us about the roots and implications of our many epistemological crises, how it does all this in writing that somehow manages to be self-conscious, philosophical, hilarious, and warm all at once. Texts and artifacts discussed and mentioned in these episodes: Ernest Becker, The Denial of Death (Free Press, 1973). Adam Begley, “Don DeLillo: The Art of Fiction CXXXV,” The Paris Review 128 (1993): 274-306. (DeLillo: “And White Noise develops a trite adultery plot that enmeshes the hero, justifying his fears about the death energies contained in plots. When I think of highly plotted novels I think of detective fiction or mystery fiction, the kind of work that always produces a few dead bodies. But these bodies are basically plot points, not worked-out characters. The book's plot either moves inexorably toward a dead body or flows directly from it, and the more artificial the situation the better. Readers can play off their fears by encountering the death experience in a superficial way.”) Buddha, Ādittapariyāya Sutta (“Fire Sermon Discourse”). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C4%80dittapariy%C4%81ya_Sutta Don DeLillo, White Noise: Text and Criticism, Mark Osteen, ed.
