TW: This week we discuss the brutal murder and torture of enslaved persons in the U.S. in the 1800s. Upon further research (unfortunately after the recording of the episode), Ash found that "slave" is no longer a politically correct term, but it IS used throughout the episode. If that word or the subject matter is particularly upsetting to you, you might want to skip this one.Happy Black History Month! This definitely isn't a happy story, but this history is very important. This week we travel back to 2021 (and then the 1800s), where Ash, former co-host Cameron Dexter and former audio engineer Evette Darensbourg discuss infamous socialite and serial torturer and murderer of enslaved people, Delphine LaLaurie. You may know who today's story is about if you're a fan of American Horror Story, and especially if you watched Season 3, Coven! Ash takes you back to the Deep South of the 1800s. The slave trade was booming and the brutal mistreatment of enslaved people was rampant. It was common for slave owners to treat their enslaved people particularly savagely for fear of uprising. But one woman in particular took that practice to a whole new level of depravity. Madame LaLaurie was a socialite and central figure in New Orleans high society, but rumors had long circulated about her treatment of her enslaved people. When a fire broke out at 1140 Royal Street on April 10, 1834, first responders found a 70 year old woman chained to the stove by her ankle, with a deep wound in her head, and people would soon find out the extent to which she tortured, and inevitably murdered, many of her enslaved people.✨If you wanna get your TSFU episodes ad free and on Tuesdays instead of Fridays, check out our Patreon! Madame Delphine LaLaurie had a sorted past from birth. But in 1834 when her massive mansion in New Orleans caught fire, the truth of her misdeeds finally came to light. Known around by some to be cruel to her slaves, if hearsay is true, that became an understatement when found beneath the smoke and ashes were slaves that had been tortured, abused, if still alive, or left to rot still chained even after death. Madame LaLaurie was never apprehended for her crimes, but her infamy lives on within the bowels of 1140 Royal Street where spirits of the damned can still be seen & heard. That's when you not only see a UFO, but you also see the extraterrestrials. The fourth kind of encounter is when you are abducted. A close encounter of the fifth kind is when you communicate with the alien – either verbally or telepathically. Madame Delphine Lalaurie: The Most Evil Woman in New OrleansThe secret locked in her mansion attic was so vile, it inspired decades of ghost stories, crime books, and even a character on American Horror Story. The French Quarter of New Orleans has long been steeped in tales of ghosts and the occult. But sometimes the living citizens are more terrifying than the dead.Born to an influential white Creole family, Delphine Macarty was raised with the finer things life had to offer. The young socialite–who even the Queen of Spain found beautiful–blended with the upper class as seamlessly as she wove herself through three marriages: first to a Spanish diplomat, then a prominent banker, and finally to the city's only dentist, Dr. Leonard Louis Nicolas Lalaurie. In 1831, although uncommon at the time, Madame Lalaurie purchased property in her own name at 1140 Rue Royale. She proceeded to build the mansion of her dreams, and her husband and daughters moved in soon after it was finished.

But who killed her? (The Seal Chart Murder) *** We're all familiar with, thanks to Stephen Spielberg, the concept of a close encounter of the third kind. That's when you not only see a UFO, but you also see the extraterrestrials. The fourth kind of encounter is when you are abducted. A close encounter of the fifth kind is when you communicate with the alien – either verbally or telepathically. But then there is a close encounter of the sixth kind – the kind of encounter not even die-hard Ufologists and lovers of anything extraterrestrial want to experience… because nobody comes back from it alive. (Close Encounters of the Sixth Kind) *** Madame Delphine LaLaurie, made popular by Kathy Bates in TV's “American Horror Story: Coven” was a first class monster. A figure of high society, she was well known for her mistreatment of slaves. But no one knew just how sick she truly was. So much so that even after leaving the mansion and it burning down, there are still terrors taking place there, thanks to Madame Delphine LaLaurie, the Monster of Royal Street.

Kerri tells us about a guy named Pedro Alonso Lopez.  He's a serial killer and rapist.. and trigger warning -- his victims are young girls around 9-12 year old.  Let's just say, you'll hate him and just shake your head and your fists while listening to this story.  Donna talks about the famous LaLaurie Mansion in New Orleans.  Madame Delphine LaLaurie was a terribly cruel woman who didn't treat her slaves as even humans.. and the trauma still haunts the mansion to this day.   If you have any local true crime, local urban legend/lore, ghost stories.. we want them all!! We want to hear from YOU.  Especially if you have any funny Ambien stories!
