At 18, she was cast as Dick Van Patton's niece in a nationally televised Christmas special, “The Gift of Song”, starring a host of country music stars. Relocating to LA in the early 90's, she studied at the South Coast Repertory and Beverly Hills Playhouse and has starred in countless stage productions all over LA, including "Blue Moon Dancing" by Ed Graczyk, "In the City for the Summer" (Variety singled out her gritty performance), and the farcical, outrageous "And Then There was Nun" which played to sold out houses for 2 extensions, where she did a hilarious sendup of Gloria Swanson. She was a long time member of the Company of Angels, LA's oldest repertory theatre, winning a Dramalogue Award for her saucy, sword-wielding performance in the mainstage production of “Zastrozzi”. She appeared in an iconic video for Weird Al Yankovic, spoofing Tanya Harding in the "Mmmm Mmmm" song (where she did her own figure skating). She appeared in several episodes of "Days of Our Lives" and had a small but pivotal role in "The Landlady" starring Talia Shire. In 2013, she was cast as one of the three leads in a hilarious coming-of-middle-age web series called "Living the Dream", and in 2015, she had the starring role in "Only the Moon Howls", a moving one act which won the Encore! Award at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Her performance was singled out for its "deep emotional access" and hailed as "heartbreaking", "truthful", "sensitive" and "vulnerable". A film version of the piece is planned for late 2015. In 2001, she landed a plum role, singing for Betty and President Gerald Ford in Palm Springs. Over the years, she has recorded and performed with some of the greatest jazz musicians on the west coast. She has performed in St. Petersburg, Russia, Dublin Ireland and in west coast venues such as Spazio, Vitello's, The Money Tree, Barone's, Monteleone's, The San Ysidro Ranch (Santa Barbara), Vicky's of Santa Fe (Palm Springs) and the Canyon Club. She appeared with Gary Tole's "Legends of Swing" orchestra and the Doug MacDonald's 13-piece "Jazz Coalition". State court hits lawmakers with injunction Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne is suing the Legislature over the ability of its members to unilaterally hire an attorney. On Tuesday (Dec. 10), six of nine Putnam lawmakers voted to do just that, despite concerns they were violating a court order. With Nancy Montgomery, who represents Philipstown and part of Putnam Valley, joining Erin Crowley (Carmel/Mahopac) and William Gouldman (Putnam Valley) in abstaining, the Legislature voted to hire a Mount Kisco firm as its representative in a lawsuit filed Nov. 26 by Byrne. In an escalating feud with the Legislature, Byrne is asking acting state Judge Joseph Spofford to void a local law amending the county charter so lawmakers can fire a county attorney at will, as well as Resolution 216, which allows them to hire an attorney without Law Department approval. Byrne filed the lawsuit after legislators voted on Nov. 25 to override his vetoes of both measures. He won an order, issued by Spofford on Nov. 26, prohibiting the Legislature from "engaging any law firm" under Resolution 216 and barring the Legislature from taking any further action regarding the charter change until the case is settled. Another order on Wednesday (Dec. 11) negated the Tuesday resolution. Before legislators voted on Tuesday to hire the law firm Gettinger, Waldinger, Monteleone, Gushue and Hollis to represent them, Jonke said that Spofford's Nov. 26 order was specific to Resolution 216, despite doubts raised by Montgomery. "By continuing to take this action, you're going against a court order, and I think you'll all probably be in contempt," said Montgomery. "I'm not going to be party to this." The lawsuit is the latest development in a dispute that Byrne alleges is rooted in an ethics complaint filed by County Attorney Compton Spain that accuses Legislator Toni Addonizio of failing to disclose that the person seeking to buy a county-owned property at 34 Gleneida Ave. in Carmel was her son-in-law. In retaliation, Byrne alleges, legislators passed, by a 6-3 vote on Oct. 1, a charter amendment allowing them to fire a county attorney without cause and prohibiting the person holding the position from outside employment. Under the charter, the county executive names the attorney and the Legislature approves the appointment. The executive can fire the attorney with approval by two-thirds of the lawmakers, the same threshold required to amend the charter. With Addonizio's ability to vote for the charter change in question because of the ethics complaint, and six votes needed for approval, the Legislature amended the original language to exclude Spain. While lawmakers say that they should be able to fire a county attorney, Byrne argues that the law reduces the power of a county executive. Because of that, he said, the measure should be subject to a referendum under a section of state law requiring that residents vote on legislation that "abolishes, transfers or curtails any power of an elected official." "By giving the Legislature discretion to remove the county attorney at will and without any input from the county executive, the local law actually gives the Legislature more power," according to the lawsuit. He also said that Resolution 216 violates a section of the Putnam charter that allows the Legislature to hire legal counsel, but only with the approval of its chair and the county attorney. On Tuesday, Jonke said Spain failed to respond to a request in September to hire Keane & Beane as the Legislature's lawyer and appointed a different firm without consulting him. "I don't see why I need to be married to a firm that he selected without my input," said Jonke. According to Jonke, the dispute began when legislators discovered Spain had sought a court order voiding a contract with Addonizio's son-in-law, Byron Voutsinas, to purchase 34 Gleneida. Spain's office argued that Voutsinas failed to satisfy conditions for the final sale, including getting the Legislature's app...

This sheds light on this historic institution based in Washington, DC—a great way to understand the nature of their collaborations with both public and private sectors. You will understand concretely how the World Bank assists developing economies worldwide in modernizing payment systems and the financial sector in general. By partnering with policymakers and the private sector, it develops a new playbook to drive impactful and resilient development. Modernizing the financial sector is just one aspect of it, as the World Bank has already been supporting more than 12,000 development projects, including infrastructure, schools, and roads.

Today we share an hour-long interview with one of the true greats of guitar-making, John Monteleone. Collectors and musicians around the world have sought out John's archtop creations, resulting in six-figure price tags, a quartet of guitars at the Met (the Four Seasons), and even a song penned by Mark Knopfler (simply titled, "Monteleone"). Bonnie Monteleone is the Founder & Director of Science, Research, and Academic Partnerships of the Plastic Ocean Project (POP) whose mission is finding science-based solutions to the global plastic pollution crisis.  In 2019, she was working on a documentary about the North Atlantic Ocean. However,  its plot quickly went from one about a complex, impacted ecosystem into a "who done it," following the death of a newborn critically endangered North Atlantic Right Whale that washed ashore. Was it manmade noise that caused the mother to lose her newborn, a ship strike, chemical or plastic pollution, was it discarded fishing gear, or overfishing? Bonnie discusses her work with plastics pollution and how it relates to this new documentary project she is undertaking. The threats the ocean and its creatures are facing are vast, but Bonnie dives deep into viable solutions that everyone can support to preserve the sounds of the sea and the marine life in it. This film, which asks what the oceans would say if they could talk, promises to inspire hope, not doom, but only if we listen. ​​Bonnie's work has led her around the world collecting plastic marine samples including four of the five main ocean gyres and the Caribbean. Bonnie Monteleone is the co-founder and Executive Director for the Plastic Ocean Project, Inc. based in Wilmington, NC.  Her research engages citizen science with school-age children to university graduate students and to date has assisted over 130 UNCW students in Directed Independent Studies (DIS)on plastic related research projects.. She co-created the course "Plastic Marine Debris Field Studies" at UNCW and has received several conservation awards for her innovative research and outreach on marine plastic pollution. She was a co-investigator on the NOAA funded research project “Microplastic Ingestion in the Black Sea Bass, Centropristis striata.” She has also co-authored five scientific publications related to plastic pollution. Ms. Monteleone is also an accomplished artist who integrates the plastic she has collected from the world's oceans (near 10,000 nm) into modern artistic masterpieces and is currently producing a full-length feature documentary titled, If the Ocean Could Talk – A Voice for the North Atlantic. In 2017 she received the Governors Award for Environmental Communication, received the 2019 YWCA Women of Achievement for her environmental work, and a NC Coastal Federation Pelican Award in 2019.

When winning the gold, Cynthia Monteleone ran faster at age 43 than she did as a Division I collegiate track athlete, and there is quite the story to go along with that accomplishment. One of my favorite takeaways was how she defines a leader: Someone who is true to him or herself and doesn't bend to surrounding pressures to act a certain way. I also love how she tied leadership and wellness together by pointing out that when we are functioning optimally we are better able to make sound decisions.
