This is a replay of one of our most popular episodes. See the original show notes and links below... This week is the Open Championship at historic Saint Andrews Golf Club. It is the last major of the PGA season. It also marks the 19th anniversary of Ben Curtis winning the Open Championship as a 300-to-1 long shot. When Ben Curtis hoisted the Claret Jug, it was the first time he had ever played in a major and it was his first-ever tournament at a links-style course. He also was a late add to the field and his wife barely made it over to England since she didn't have a passport. Anyway, this was an interesting episode that we did a couple of years ago but wanted to replay it since this is the week of The Open Championship. Lastly, I must admit I'm biased when it comes to Ben Curtis since he is a fellow Kent State Golden Flash alum. He is also doing a lot of great things in our area for kids in need. I highly recommend checking out his website at bencurtisfoundation.org.   ORIGINAL SHOW NOTES: Ben Curtis won the 2003 Open Championship at Royal St. George's as a rookie in only his 16th start on the PGA Tour. He became the first golfer in 90 years to win a major championship in his first try. He would go on to win a total of four PGA events. Curtis also was the runnerup at the 2012 PLAYERS Championship and a member of the 2008 Ryder Cup Championship Team. Prior to his professional career, he was formerly the world's number one ranked amateur after winning three Ohio Amateur titles, earning NCAA All-American honors three times at Kent State University, and reaching the semifinals of the 1999 of the prestigious U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach. He retired from professional golf in 2017.  He now leads the Ben Curtis Golf Academy, as well as the Ben Curtis Family Foundation which seeks to alleviate childhood hunger in Northeast Ohio. In today's episode, we discuss: Winning The Open Championship as a rookie Getting married and playing a PGA event on the same day The mental approach to golf Starting a foundation to help alleviate child hunger … and so much more!!!   Resources, Books, and Links  Golf Academy Website: BenCurtisGolfAcademy.com Foundation Website:   BenCurtisFoundation.org Foundation Facebook:  Facebook.com/BenCurtisFoundation/ Instagram: @BenCurtisFamilyFoundation Articles of Interest . . . Quantum Conversations: With Karen Curry Parker

On this podcast we talk a lot about sustainability and reframing the conversation around topics that seem sort of “certain.”  It is said that the only things certain in life are death and taxes.  Death, by definition, is not sustainable - or is it?  In America, the funeral industry is costly and environmentally destructive. This is not the most comfortable conversation for many of us.  We don't want to think about death.  But, as my guest today, Sandy Gibson, founder of Better Place Forests, shares with us, death is a sacred part of life and when we reframe the conversation about the ritual of funerals in the context of creating a sacred space for remembering, we can explore healthier and more sustainable options for all the phases of life. Sandy Gibson is a man on a mission - a person with a clear Chief Aim and the passion and directive to fulfill it.  I have to say that, while I was curious about having a conversation about the funeral industry and exploring more sustainable ways of honoring our loved ones, I was deeply impacted by Sandy's personal journey with death - and life. Obviously, the journey of processing a loss and turning it into some kind of greater purpose takes time. What Sandy so beautifully shared with his story is that tragedy, as painful as it can be in the moment - and the moments following - can also bring the seeds of purpose. Viktor Frankl, the Holocaust survivor and author of the book, Man's Search for Meaning, stated that “In some ways suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds a meaning.”  Sandy Gibson has done just that.  He has turned the narrative around grief into a conversation about the sacredness of loss and turned the business of dying into an act of honoring in a sustainable and sacred way.  Perhaps the journey we take with death might seem less tragic if we fully embrace - with intent and purpose - the experience of Life. If you'd like to learn more about how to find your Chief Aim, please visit www.quantumalignmentsystem.com where you can discover who you are and why you're here.  Thank you for joining me for Quantum Revolution. Sandy Gibson is the Co-Founder and CEO of Better Place Forests, a sustainable alternative to cemeteries for families who choose cremation.  When Sandy was a young boy, he lost his father to a stroke and his mother to cancer. After years of visiting their graves in a dreary Toronto cemetery, Sandy began to imagine what a better place to remember his parents might look like. In 2015, he founded Better Place Forests with his two best friends to give every family the chance to visit and remember the people they love in nature.  Based in San Francisco, Better Place Forests launched America's first conservation memorial forests in 2017. Hello Fellow Golfists,The Knackered Golfist got to go to the putting green again at Sacramento National this week to practice putting with his Taylor Made Manta 48 inch Long Putter.  He offered a few closing thoughts on the recent playing of The Open championship from Royal St. George's in Sandwich England UK.  This last Sunday he was able to finally see Cameron Champ win the 3M Open.  This marks his 3rd time on the PGA Tour and being on CBS Sports was a bonus.  TKG shared that it was amazing to see him tee off with 2 irons all day when everyone else was hitting driver.  Champ's 18th hole was a bit nerve racking but he got through it and closed out the tournament.  TKG offered some comments on his recent putting technique and how it works with the Srixon Q Star Tour Divide blue and yellow golf ball.  He mentioned that he was actually looking at lining up putts on the practice green and trying to be observant of the mythical concept known as "The Grain".  Thank you for listening to The Knackered Golfist Podcast.  #theknackeredgolfistpodcast#sacramentonational#taylormademantalongputter#srixonqstartourdivide#cameronchamp#3mopen#tpctwincities#cbssports#theopen#britishopen

Hello again Golfists, I tried to get up early for the final round but Nothing But Commercials made it very difficult for me to stay engaged with the early round coverage.  Coupled with the endless mobile phone commercials and blackheaded golf club manufacturers yelling at me so early in the morning, it was really tough for me to keep watching.  However I did enjoy the Doosan commercials where diggers were moving the earth.  Coverage provided by NBC was spread a bit thin between lead analysts being in their Stamford Connecticut NBC studios and on course reporters, cameramen, and production personnel being on remote in Sandwich England.  Olympics opening ceremonies start next Friday in Tokyo.  I reckon that most if not all of the NBC personnel on the ground at Royal St. George's will be making their way to Tokyo for the Olympics.      I got up a little later that I should have and found that Oosthuizen had fallen out of the lead.  But this final round was all about Collin Morikawa.  Morikawa's performance and execution of shots that I observed were so amazing to watch.  He ranked number 1 in putting this week and his iron play is simply staggering to watch.  I cannot wait to see Collin Morikawa at a tournament one day to watch him hit balls on the range.  Such an amazing win for someone from Southern California!!The Champion Golfer Of The Year is Collin Morikawa!!!    Thanks for listening to The Knackered Golfist Podcast #theknackeredgolfistpodcast #theopen#nothingbutcommercials#doosan#collinmorikawa#tugboatfishandchipslincolncalifornia

Hello again Fellow Golfists,I did a two-fer today with golf watching and golf chatting.  I chatted with Danny King in my last episode but in this episode I reflected on what I watched and experienced with the 3rd Round coverage of The Open at Royal St. George's.  I'm a bit torn on who to root for now.  Oosthuizen, Morikawa, and Spieth are all at the top of the leaderboard.  Who knows if the wind will blow tomorrow, The Shadow knows!  I'm torn between rooting for The Ooster and rooting for Morikawa, and maybe rooting for Jordan.  Morikawa winning The Open on his first visit would be staggering!!  Today was lacking substantial wind so it was quite calm.   But today the cups were cut in more difficult spots on the greens.  Anyway, I blathered on about what I observed today in between me falling asleep after a week that has made me quite knackered.  I also remembered a bit more about Greg Norman's victory and shared a few more things that I didn't include in my first episode about the 1993 British Open Championship.  I finally shared what I like about the Srixon Divide golf ball and how it acts on the practice green at Sacramento National at Haggin Oaks.  I did a bit of putting after work this week and since my right arm is quite sore from yesterday's shot I won't be hitting any balls this weekend.  Anyway, hopefully I'm off to have a spot of lunch with fish and chips with tartar sauce with a spot of Coke.  Enjoy the final round of The Open from Royal St. George's in Sandwich England UK tomorrow.  I don't know if I will be doing a final round wrap up or not.  Bear with!!Also I did a bit of "on the fly" voiceover work that I thought was promising.  I love my plantar fascismitis inserts from The Good Feet Store here in Roseville California.  They help me walk around the putting green with no pain. I also love having a Soleil Moon Frye Brand Black Cherry Seltzer Water.  It's the zesty crisp and sharp tasty drink that is so needed on my tongue without the calories.  This can be found at your local Northern California Safeway Supermarket.      Thanks for listening to The Knackered Golfist Podcast.  #theknackeredgolfistpodcast#srixondivideblueandyellow#halsuttonpodcast#fishandchips#sandwichengland#theopen  #thegoodfeetstore#soleilseltzerwater#safewaysupermarkets

Hello Fellow Golfists,Well it's British Open week from Sandwich England at Royal St. George's.  I call it the British Open Championship.  I enjoyed remembering the 1993 British Open Championship when Greg Norman shot 64 to win his second major championship.  This was his best performance in a major championship.  I hope that the R and A honors him in some way this week.  Anyway, I am declaring that I am not going to get sucked into the No Laying Up Podcast this week.  Their predictions, their hype, and their childish silly bearded antics that they only understood were nothing but killjoys before, during, and after the US Open at Torrey Pines.  They gave too many negative marks to Torrey Pines for the US Open and I got sucked into their silly entitled mindset.  They don't have a clue how to operate and maintain a golf course.  The Torrey Pines Golf Course Superintendent and crew did an outstanding job preparing the course for this major championship.  The US Open at Torrey Pines had a fine leaderboard and the winner was someone who earned the victory outright.I remembered what the 1993 British Open meant to me watching when temperatures were over 100 degrees in Northern California during a weekend in July.  And how refreshing it is to watch a sporting event on tv where the temperatures make participants and spectators bundle up to stay warm.  I wanted to share my visits to the putting green with the new Srixon Divide blue and yellow golf ball but I ran out of time.  I hopefully will talk about this amazing ball and how it helps me on the practice green soon after.  Well, enjoy some fish and chips with a pint while watching the 2021 British Open Championship from Royal St George's on NBC Sports.  I'll be getting up early this weekend!!Thank you for listening.  #theknackeredgolfistpodcast#nolayingupentitledmillennialpunks#srixondivide
