Everton produced a spectacular comeback to defeat Fulham 3-1 at Craven Cottage in glorious sunshine by the Thames after being on the back foot for most of the first 45 minutes. A powerful header from Raul Jimenez on 17 minutes put the hosts in front and they continued to boss proceedings for the lion's share of the first half before the Blues got back into the contest with a slice of good fortune when Vitalii Mykolenko's deflected shot deceived Bernd Leno. Everton went ahead on 70 minutes when substitute Dwight McNeil's corner-kick was headed in at the back post by Michael Keane, who had come into the side as one of four changes, before Beto completed the turnaround three minutes later as his shot proved too hot to handle for Leno. Richard Lee returns to the fold to talk about the steadiness of Bernd Leno as a Premier League goalkeeper, the bit-between-his-teethness of Dean Henderson and 100 in succession for Jordan Pickford. In the Championship, Karl Darlow was finally given the nod ahead of Illan Meslier as Leeds were held at Luton, while Max Crocombe was the subject of a dubious penalty awarded to Wrexham and Wyll Stanway bagged an MOM in a rare start for Barrow. A nod to Andy Fisher and Rohan Luthra, too, as both excelled on loans at St Johnstone and Spennymoor respectively.
This is Early Kick Off from the Men in Blazers media network and presented by our great friends of the pod STōK Cold Brew Coffee, all your global football stories straight from the back pages of Europe's newspapers in around 10 minutes. On today's episode: Fulham knock Manchester United out of the FA Cup on penalties, and Bernd Leno is the hero for Marco Silva's men; Brighton snatch a dramatic win at Newcastle to progress to the quarter-finals; Manchester City beat Plymouth; Crystal Palace defeat Millwall in a game which will be defined by Liam Roberts' dangerous challenge on Mateta; Aston Villa, Preston, and Bournemouth also progress; the USMNT's Jonny Cardoso scores for Real Betis to help them to a victory over Real Madrid; Luis Suarez rolls back the years; Hibernian win the Edinburgh derby; and one unlucky player receives the fastest red card in English football history.Sunshine on Leith, the greatest football anthem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0SQ2Q2yca0Football don't sleep, and neither do we.This episode was made in the UK for Men In Blazers by…Host: Sammy JamesProducer: George CooperAssistant producer: Elizabeth BarnardResearcher: Jack CollinsSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Fulham have done it! No 1-0, no red cards but plenty of nerves. Manchester United are left smarting after Bernd Leno saves penalties from Lindelof and Zirkzee to see Fulham through to the next round of the FA Cup. Silva's side ground down a very poor Man United team through 90 minutes, extra-time and finally, penalties. George is joined by Yasmin, Elizabeth and Luke Resch, on his Fulhamish debut, to bask in the glorious sunshine that comes after beating Man United at Old Trafford. It was by no means a beautiful or entertaining game of football for the neutral but it did have Fulham fans' heartbeats sky-rocketing. Bassey's header put Fulham ahead in the final stages of the first-half but a moment of magic from Bruno Fernandes threatened to send Fulham packing. The second-half and extra-time were littered with Man United chances but Leno's heroic hand of god clinched victory for the Cottagers. In part two, they answer some of your listener questions. Is there a feeling better than this on a magnificent spring morning? Is Bernd Leno pinching Mark Schwarzer's spot for second best all time Fulham keeper? So, the eight-second ruling as imposed on goalkeepers by IFAB is due to finally come into effect as of next season. Following yet another trial during the Club World Cup over the summer, it's possible referees will award corners to opposing teams should goalkeepers fail to release the ball after eight seconds. Let's see how it plays out. Meanwhile, penalty shootouts took centre stage in the FA Cup and FA Trophy at the weekend. Bernd Leno the hero for Fulham at Manchester United. Will Jaaskelainen saved three and scored the decisive spot-kick for Woking in their quarter-final tie at Oxford City. On the flip side of heroism, Liam Roberts was very much seen as the villain after seeing red for his challenge on Jean-Phillipe Mateta in Millwall's defeat to Crystal Palace. We discuss the incident and comments made by Palace Chairman, Steve Parish, after the game.
Alan is joined by Freddie, fresh from a startling lack of sleep, and Elliott to discuss Fulham's fine FA Cup penalty shoot-out victory at Old Trafford and look ahead to the quarter-final home tie against Crystal Palace. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

It's a Planet FPL debut for new Fulham Correspondent Lewis James on the opening Podcast of Day 4 on Correspondent Week and with a very attractive set of fixtures to begin with there's plenty of interest in their FPL assets. But how will they cope with the departure of the brilliant Joao Palhinha? There's detail on new additions including Emile Smith-Rowe and a returning Ryan Sessegnon, and more additions can be expected to a squad that is likely to be led up front by Rodrigo Muniz who will prove popular for those looking for a reliable cheaper forward. Bernd Leno has been a proven consistent goalkeeper in Fantasy, but he may be overlooked with Fulham's backline all priced at 4.5. There's a debate about the prospects for Timothy Castagne and Antonee Robinson. Plus, could Smith-Rowe's arrival mean a departure for Andreas Pereira, and if so, who would take over set-piece duties. The answer may surprise. And there's also detail of why we may see a back three from Fulham as the season progresses. Ever felt like you're being manipulated by media narratives in football? Well, you're not alone. Prepare to have your eyes pried wide open as we take a deep-dive into the world of sports media and the often deceptive narratives they spin. We kick-off our exploration by scrutinizing the glaring contrast in media coverage between the Arsenal vs Chelsea game, and the Manchester United vs Wolves game. We ponder over this with a heated discussion revolving around goalkeepers David De Haer, Jordan Ramsdale, and Bernd Leno. We also analyze the impact of media narratives on Harry Maguire's performance and reputation. Brace yourselves, as we get into a lively debate on Aston Villa and Manchester United, with a spicy side discourse on Unai Emery's clear philosophy at Arsenal. Finally, we question public perception with Jake Humphrey's high-performance focus under the spotlight. We'll also be entertaining the idea of who would be deserving of a Last Dance style documentary. A fascinating exploration of football, media narratives, player performances and so much more awaits you - an episode that no football fan or media enthusiast would want to miss. Tune in and join us on this enlightening journey through the game we all love!

Well... that was a frustrating afternoon. The sun was shining as The Whites marched on to East London, hoping to put the Newcastle loss behind us. After a superb opening spell Fulham, who were without Mitrovic, found themselves ahead after Andreas Pereira slammed home from the tightest of angles to open his Fulham account. But our hero quickly turned villain as the Brazilian was alleged to have fouled Craig Dawson from a corner, with Jarrod Bowen converting from the spot to equalise. West Ham then took the lead as Scamacca controlled a tidy through ball with his hand before lobbing Bernd Leno. To add insult to injury, in the dying embers, a defensive mix-up presented Michail Antonio (who also controlled the ball with his hand) with a third. Coops, Drew and Dom discuss an afternoon ruined by bad officiating and incorrect VAR decisions. We hope to put it behind us as we look ahead to an important home fixture against Bournemouth this weekend. In the second half of the pod Coops, Drew and Dom answer your listener questions. Well that's burst the bubble a little bit hasn't it? Ten man Fulham fell to their first home defeat of the season, as Newcastle slaughtered our makeshift side time and time again. In the end, a 1-4 scoreline was quite a flattering one, as we had Bernd Leno to thank for the margin of victory not being wider. In this episode, we react to the defeat, discuss Nathaniel Chalobah's disastrous red card and answer some of your questions. There's also a look at Tom Cairney, and whether it was a mistake to overlook him for this match. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Ahead of Friday's Gameweek 8 meeting between Nottingham Forest and Fulham James is joined by Cottagers Correspondent Dara Curran to discuss Fulham's start to the season and hopes ahead of a very attractive fixture run. There's discussion on Fulham's likely best starting eleven going forward with the squad firmed up by the additions of late transfer window signings Layvin Kurzawa, Daniel James and Willian but there have been some impressive performances from the likes of Tim Ream and Neeskens Kebano which mean there's no guarantee the new additions get straight into the team. Plus, early impressions on the integration of Bernd Leno, Paulinha and Andreas Pereira and why for FPL managers both Pereira and star striker Aleksander Mitrovic are so hard to ignore. But with the promising fixture run until the World Cup should a third Fulham asset be considered...? Fulham's unbeaten start to life back in the Premier League came to a halt at the Emirates, as Marco Silva's Whites lost for the first time in the league this season, going down 2-1 to an Arsenal side who sit top of the pile. There was plenty of encouragement though, in the performance. We discuss how Fulham took the lead before eventually succumbing to two sucker punches from the Gunners - the first a mighty deflection from a Martin Ødegaard strike and the second from a contentious scramble at a corner late on, that meant we left North London empty handed. There's a discussion of Bernd Leno's performance, as well as of the options that Marco chose to deploy. In part two we look ahead to this week's under-the-lights clash against high flying Brighton, discussing the Seagulls have started this season and how we can get at them; whilst part three talks about potential signings and answers a big question that we were sent! Beating your local rivals Brentford in the first ever Premier League meeting between the two sides… it doesn't get much better than this! Fulham were inspired from the moment we kicked off, with Bobby Decordova-Reid taking only 50 seconds to take the lead. A goal from new cult hero João Palhinha put us 2-0 up, before a nervy period saw Brentford come back to make it 2-2. After Ivan Toney mocked our talisman Alexander Mitrovic's celebration... the rest will go down in Fulham's Premier League folklore. 90th minute. Mitro header. Bad luck Brentford. Thanks for coming. Fulham are now sitting pretty in 7th place, undefeated, with 5 points on the board. Saturday's win turning our solid start into an exceptional start. We discuss how Marco Silva's side have adapted to the Premier League, perhaps learning from our mistakes of yesteryear. We also chat about impressive debuts for Jay Stansfield and Bernd Leno and take a look at our new right back conundrum. In part two we answer your questions, and then in part three we look ahead to a very fun little Carabao Cup draw away to Crawley Town. With just a matter of days until Fulham's Premier League campaign gets underway against Liverpool at the Cottage, this episode looks ahead to the season as a whole. Sammy, Jack and Peter give their predictions as to how FFC will fare back in the top flight under Marco Silva. However, we begin the podcast by reacting to the signing of Bernd Leno from Arsenal, which has the potential to be one of the key signings of the summer. Peter also gives his thoughts on Marco's press conference at the weekend, where he criticised the club's recruitment. Finally, we end with a preview of Saturday's visitors Liverpool.
