He wasn't tall. He wasn't big. There wasn't anything imposing about this athlete physically.Joe Theismann was doubted through high school, college, right into his CFL and NFL days. But the man never lacked bravado. This quarterback was fueled by true belief. Here on the Go Long Pod, I chatted with the Washington Redskins great at length about his truly unique rise from South River, N.J. to Heisman Trophy runner-up, College Football Hall of Famer, 1982 Super Bowl Champion and 1983 NFL MVP. Theismann was as tough as nails, too, in starting 163 straight games — quite a feat considering his prison-rules era of football. Topics discussed include…* One brutal, tough-love lesson from his father.* How he won the job at Notre Dame. Upon arrival in South Bend, Theismann was one of 13 quarterbacks.* The day he pissed off Don Shula. * Power of “mental toughness.” Call it spite or pride — Theismann says he was obsessed with proving people wrong. * How he started 163 straight games. Theismann recalls the time Ted Hendrickson dropped him on his head.* What made his 1983 Redskins historic to this day.* Why he believes in Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels.Video and audio is available above. You can also catch this episode on Apple, Spotify, YouTube and everywhere you pod. Markets started the year on a slightly uneven footing as issues such as stock-price valuation, tariffs, and U.S. interest rates weighed on sentiment. While our Co-Chief Investment Strategists Emily R. Roland, CIMA, and Matthew D. Miskin, CFA, think compelling investing opportunities can still be found, they feel that it may be time for investors to adjust their expectations.
[Daniel 3:16-18] Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied to the king, “Nebuchadnezzar, we don't need to give you an answer to this question. [17] If the God we serve exists, then he can rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire, and he can rescue us from the power of you, the king. [18] But even if he does not rescue us, we want you as king to know that we will not serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up.” I'm going to stay ______________ even if God doesn't ______________ me! [Daniel 3:25] He exclaimed, “Look! I see four men, not tied, walking around in the fire unharmed; and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.” God did not ________________ them from going into the fire, but He stopped them from being __________________. [Psalms 23:4] Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. God uses the fire to ______________ us. When you lose your temper you always ______________. [Proverbs 25:28] A person who does not control his temper is like a city whose wall is broken down. [Ephesians 4:26-27] And “don't sin by letting anger control you.” Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry, [27] for anger gives a foothold to the devil. Foothold (Greek: topos): An ______________ place [2 Corinthians 4:8-9] We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. [9] We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Even in an unpredictable world, God is ______________ and will not ______________. Sometimes the only thing that keeps you from collapsing is knowing that God is ______________. [2 Corinthians 4:17-18] For our present troubles are small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! [18] So we don't look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. What you are going through won't last ______________. [Isaiah 43:2] When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. You were made to go ______________ the fire, not to __________ in it.
Welcome back to the Multifamily Collective! Today, let's talk about a powerful metaphor—tempering metal—and how it applies to building strong, resilient teams. Just as metal is tempered through heating and cooling cycles to build strength and integrity, teams grow and fortify their skills through challenges and crises. Apply Pressure: In steelmaking, intense heat strengthens the metal. In leadership, moments of pressure or crisis create growth opportunities. Cool Down: After the heat, there's cooling—a time to reflect and regroup. Teams learn best when they can step back and absorb the lessons. Repeat: The process is iterative. Each challenge prepares your team for the next, creating a culture of confidence and capability. A Real-World Example Mike Brewer shared a story of a fire at one of his properties. Instead of micromanaging, he allowed the on-site team to respond independently. They executed protocols, collaborated effectively, and resolved the crisis. This experience "tempered" the team, preparing them for future challenges, whether fire, flood, or another unexpected event. Give your team space to lead during challenging situations. Support them, but let them stretch and grow by solving problems themselves. Crises are inevitable in multifamily and beyond. Teams that are "tempered" through real-world challenges become stronger, more confident, and better equipped to handle the unexpected. Leadership isn't about controlling—it's about empowering. What are you doing to "temper" your team? Are you creating opportunities for them to lead and grow? If you're interested in learning more about how mindset coaching and hypnotherapy can help you get unstuck from the proverbial bunker of poor performance on the course and in your business, click here to schedule a coaching discovery call with me. Key Points: Simplifying the short game involves managing expectations and focusing on technique. Many golfers have unrealistic expectations based on professional highlights. The yips can stem from both physical flaws and mental fears. Proper grip and setup are crucial for successful putting. Club-focused instruction aligns with how the brain learns motor skills. Slow motion practice can help identify and correct swing issues. Strategic pauses in the swing can prevent manipulation of the club. Becoming a scratch golfer requires significant time and dedication. Coaching should prioritize understanding the person behind the golfer. Key Quotes: “I believe that the improvement you make and the goals you achieve in golf will reflect the time and effort you commit to the game.” “Focus on what you want to do as opposed to what you fear might happen.” “The difference between a scratch golfer and others is the amount of time they spend playing and practicing the game.” “Most players have too high of expectations, thinking they should make all their putts within 10 feet or hit it close with a wedge every time. Tempering expectations reduces stress and allows you to play more freely.” “Slow-motion swings can help you identify whether you're executing correctly. In golf, where precision matters, slowing down can make all the difference in building a repeatable and effective swing.” Subscribe to the More Pars Than Bogeys Newsletter. Joshua 3:10 This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites... We are continuing in our series, Taking Destiny, by looking at the Canaanites. This word literally means zeal and fervor, and it has to deal with getting ahead. Many times in life, when the Lord reveals His plan to us, we get so excited and so eager to step into it. But sometimes we jump into a situation before we're actually ready and prepared for it. We should jump into the pool when we see water. Tempering our expectations and trying to stay lockstep with the Holy Spirit who sets the pace is sometimes challenging. Many of us want a microwave Kingdom of God, but in reality, it's much more like a slow-cooker. Learning how to walk hand-in-hand with the Lord as He guides and directs us is so crucial whenever we're stepping into our destiny. We can't let our zeal and fervor dictate the pace; we must let the Lord do it!

Today Fr. Kirby highlights how we sometimes misuse our God-given talents for personal gain rather than fulfilling their vocational responsibilities. How can you use God's gifts for Him? Share in the comments!—Morning Offering with Fr. Kirby, December 19, 2023—————————Every morning, join Father Jeffrey Kirby as he begins the day with prayer and reflection. In a few short minutes, Father Kirby guides you in prayer, shares a brief reflection grounding your day in the Church's rhythm of feast days and liturgy, and provides you with the encouragement necessary to go forward with peace and strength. Let us do as the saints urge and begin our days in prayer together so as a community of believers we may join the Psalmist in saying, “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” (Psalm 5:3-4)

This week's show is with Michael Meade. Michael Meade, D.H.L., is a renowned storyteller, author, and scholar of mythology, anthropology, and psychology. He combines hypnotic storytelling, street-savvy perceptiveness, and spellbinding interpretations of ancient myths with a deep knowledge of cross-cultural rituals. He has an unusual ability to distill and synthesize these disciplines, tapping into ancestral sources of wisdom and connecting them to the stories we are living today. He is the author of Awakening the Soul, The Genius Myth, Fate and Destiny: The Two Agreements of The Soul, Why the World Doesn't End, The Water of Life: Initiation and the Tempering of the Soul; editor, with James Hillman and Robert Bly, of Rag and Bone Shop of the Heart; and the creator of the Living Myth Podcast. Michael Meade is the founder of Mosaic Multicultural Foundation, a nonprofit network of artists, activists, and community builders that encourages greater understanding between diverse peoples. In this conversation, Michael and Lian explored the wonderful topic of how mythic narratives reveal hidden knowledge for healing and making things whole, especially for those of us working as change-makers and healers of others. I'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment below. What you'll learn from this episode: I've noticed that so many people can connect the dots back to events in childhood that seeded their destiny, or marked their soul, as Michael said. Michael's own story of being gifted the book of mythology was a beautiful example of this. I also loved how he said that our calling will keep calling! Stories are a way we can enter the dream, the other world, as a group - and discover our place in the story. As Michael said, archetypes come with vital energy and intention - which is exactly what we need right now for healing ourselves and the collective Myths show us that beginnings come with endings and that as Michael said “the cracks are where the archetypes get through.” Resources and stuff that we spoke about: Mosaic Website: https://www.mosaicvoices.org/ Living Myth Podcast: https://www.mosaicvoices.org/podcast Michael Meade Events: https://www.mosaicvoices.org/events Michael Meade Courses: https://courses.mosaicvoices.org/ Thank you for listening!
