Lyn is joined today by Nathan Segal, an expert in long-lasting relationships and a natural connector of people, to discuss the ways in which we can activate strength and confidence by rejecting fear and doubt, especially in this current COVID 19 world that seems to have most of us focused on fear and negativity. KEY TAKEAWAYS The world and the media today seem to be operating under the same thought principles as cult thinking, in that beliefs are insidiously embedded upon our minds until they present themselves as our reality, and we acccept them as fact. Anchoring is a powerful psychological tool that can relieve anxiety and re-enforce positivity, grounding you when you need it most. It is a technique based upon NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) effectively changing the way we think, speak and behave. Developing mental and emotional awareness not only allows us to check ourselves when we need to change our negative thinking and behaviours. It also allows us to recognise when others are attempting to use this power against us. We all primarily learn in different ways. Usually through VAK either Visual (seeing), Auditory (hearing) or Kinaesthetic (feeling / touching) We can recognise people's primary learning styles by the different types of VAK language they use. Our subconscious silently translates these styles into our own communication category. BEST MOMENTS ‘I imagine myself being firmly rooted to the earth’ ’This is industrial strength mind control’ ‘I want to show you how to generate confidence on demand’ ‘You will have a technique that keeps you grounded, confident, safe and secure within yourself'  VALUABLE RESOURCES Hearts Entwined Podcast Apple Podcasts (iTunes) Spotify Stitcher ABOUT THE GUEST Nathan Segal has worked in the fields of computer graphics, photography and writing for over 30 years. How To Talk To Strangers

Hearts Entwined Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 2, 2019 38:09

Taking the first steps in approaching people we don’t know is difficult enough, but the feeling of unease is often amplified when we’re hoping to form a romantic relationship.  Lyn is joined today by Nathan Segal, an expert in long-lasting relationships, and a self-professed “natural connector” of people, to discuss the ways in which we can improve our own self-belief, and by doing so, increase our confidence in talking to strangers and forming new relationships. But more than this, Nathan and Lyn also discuss the fascinating topic of what to do when the connection has begun… KEY TAKEAWAYS Many pick-up artists use scripts, lines or pick-ups in order to start conversations. But what happens when you run out of material? The best way is to just be yourself and speak from your heart. A great tip for approaching new people is to find out what they’re talking about. Decide if there is common ground. Does this person interest you? What happens if we engage with someone and subsequently discover that we don’t wish to pursue it further? Nathan shares the “pattern interrupt” which breaks rapport, and also the slow disengage. Or why not simply tell the truth? State that you believe the conversation isn’t working for either of you. Remember that being honest is one thing. Being rude is another. It’s entirely possible to be honest in a polite way. A major problem many people have, is social anxiety. The people who are really suffering are those who are overly focused on themselves. By removing the inward focus, we can easily dissipate the anxiety. Many people think that suicide is an answer to a single problem; that by destroying the body, they destroy the problem. If a person is talking about it, then that’s a sign that they want help. A simple but effective way to change your confidence level is to simply raise your chest up, which forces your head to raise and your shoulders to roll back. It lifts your mood in seconds, as well as improves your breathing and posture. BEST MOMENTS ‘My natural ability is to be a connector. It’s what I’m good at’ ‘When someone is contemplating suicide. What is it in them that wants to die?’ ‘Because of the inward focus, we can lose sight of what is the reality’ ‘Direct your attention outwards on other people. Stop negatively focusing on yourself’ ‘A lot of people have a problem with honesty’ ‘Exit: stage left!'   VALUABLE RESOURCES Heats Entwined Podcast   ABOUT THE GUEST Nathan Segal has worked in the fields of computer graphics, photography and writing for over 30 years. Why do we sabotage our dreams? What is it that makes us drop the ball right when we're about to win the game? Maybe our thoughts get in the way. Maybe it's just another chapter in a negative story we've been telling ourselves over and over or limiting ideas about who we think we are and what we think we deserve. It could be the result of a trauma somewhere in life that causes us to believe things about ourselves that just aren't true. Nathan Segal has been on a spiritual journey since age 11, and later, experienced an awakening and profound shift in his life to help him deal with PTSD and break free of self-sabotage and dissociative amnesia brought on by an early experience that shocked him into a life of sabotage that took him years to recover from. Now, he helps others learn to live a more productive, fulfilling life free of self-sabotage. Nathan Segal's story is one of challenge and change, and it may inspire you to reach your goals instead of giving up on them.
