This is part 1 of Ep 3, with Leslie Boggs, President of the National Chapter of the PTA. Leslie Boggs is the 56th president of National PTA, the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer child advocacy association. One other mention for Leslie is her priorities that are now more important than ever - As PTA president, Boggs is a huge advocate for more funding for mental health access for students and has pushed for more funding for public schools and to strengthen family engagement for all children. Two things that our schools desperately need right now and in the very near future to recover from this pandemic.

Namibia's Minister of Works and Transport John Mutorwa says that female inclusion in the maritime sector can accelerate inclusive and sustainable development. Mutorwa was addressing women at the belated World Maritime Day celebration hosted by the National Chapter of Women in the Maritime Sector, Eastern and Southern Africa (Womesa) in Walvis Bay. He said that global statistics show that the maritime industry still remains one of the most under-represented sectors of economic activities for women. Therefore, he said, Namibia must, in line with the country's gender equality national policy, aggressively bridge the gap in order to achieve equal representation. "Ending all forms of discrimination against women is thus not only a basic fundamental human right but also a very crucial tool to accelerate inclusive and sustainable development. Empowering women also boost socio-economic growth," Mutorwa said. According to him, the directorate of maritime affairs, apart from outdated legal and institutional frameworks, with limiting civil service rules and operational constraints of government, is also seriously understaffed. The division is furthermore not able to attract and retain skilled and qualified personnel and now needs urgent attention, he said.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/newscast-africa/support --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/newscast-africa/support Learn more about your ad choices. Kenny Parbel is the President of the Ohio Chapter and SGT. At-Arms for the National Chapter of Bearded Sinners. Upon learning of who the Bearded Sinners were, my world was opened to another side of the “bearding community” that I wasn’t aware existed. Both Kenny and I got our start in the club scene at the same event back in 2012 and didn’t even know we had crossed paths numerous times. We “officially” met at the Morgan Hose VFD fundraiser beard and mustache contest, EP.71 (http://thebeardcaster.libsyn.com/podcast/ep71-morgan-hose-volunteer-fire-department-fundraiser) and he pulled me aside and wanted to tell me about their annual fundraiser Pig Roast they hold that was coming up Labor Day weekend. We set up a time to meet and got together at a small bar in Ravena, Ohio and enjoyed a couple adult beverages and had a chat about beards and clubs and social issues. We talked about the history and nuances of The Bearded Sinners and how they have gone under my radar for the past few years. My eyes were really opened to a side of the beard “clubs” that don’t really participate in the competitive charity beard events and focus more on local community outreach and local fundraising. We also discussed the issues of assembling chapters of a club and the problems they have come across in the past. If you like the message of the Bearded Sinners and are interested in checking out more about their club goto https://www.facebook.com/BSBCOHIO/ to get more information. Most people working for nonprofits probably consider the work they're doing to be pretty important but the challenge is to convince other people of the value of your work and that of your organization. You may be doing the most transformative work in the entire world, but if you can't tell your story and can't let people know about it -- then what is the point? To answer some of the important questions about getting your message not just out there, but in the hands of the right people, we have invited Sabrina Kidwai of the DC / National Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America to clarify some of the finer points of public relations. Sabrina Kidwai is the president of the chapter which is the largest in the country with 1200 members working in nonprofits, government, and private business and all their members benefit from the diverse background of their membership. Download | Subscribe (FREE) This week Rev. Beverly Gibson and Johnny Gwin look at the nature of allegiance. Most of us have heard and comprehended the meaning of "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's," but what is our debt to God? The answer to this profound teaching, from the Gospel of Matthew, is found more in Jesus's unspoken parallel than what he said. What is God's image imprinted upon? God's image is upon "us." We are what is owed to our Heavenly Emperor. More specifically, giving our physical and spiritual presence to Him, ourselves and others is the true debt that is owed. Also discussed in this episode: > Jesus's handling of those that are conspiring against him > Jesus's rabbinical teaching method > Tithing > The human and divine nature of Jesus > God's greatest gift to the world and His followers. Pulpit To Pew wants to congratulate Christ Church Cathedral parishioner Carl Cunningham Jr. and the young men of the Kappa League of Mobile for earning their National Chapter of the Year Award. Your presence at Sunday services is always a gift, and thanks for sharing your achievements. Your diligence and accomplishments are an inspiration to our whole community. Weekly Readings Exodus 33:12-23 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10 Matthew 22:15-22 Complete Show: > Carl Cunningham, Jr. and the young men Kappa League of Mobile and their success, 12 million in scholarships and the National Jay Crosby Award joined us at service > Rev. Marshall Craver as a new addition to the Christ Church Cathedral family and the adult education program > The Pharisees and Herodians laying a trap for Jesus in the gospel of Matthew > Is it lawful to pay taxes to the Emperor or not? > Jesus in true Rabbinical tradition answers a question with another question > The image on the emperor's coin > If the coin belongs to the emperor what does God own? > What does God have his image on? Us. > Tithing and "the more" that is asked of God > The sharing of each other's presence > Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons in ourselves and others? > How Rev. Gibson prepares for the podcast when she doesn't deliver a sermon > Rev. Craver's earthly father's advice of never to speak of politics, religion, and money in public > Facebook seems to break Rev. Craver's sound fatherly advice > How we are not too different from the Pharisees and the Herodians >Herodians and Pharisees make strange bedfellows aligning together against Jesus > What does God have his image on > The profound teaching is the unspoken parallel of what is not said > The light and dark side (Star Wars reference) of ourselves and one another > Arguing the exact nature of Jesus - fully human, fully divine, or both > God's great compassion is giving his only son as a human being and sending him to live and die among us > What was Jesus like during the time he was finding his way in life from the age of 13 to 30 > We all were or are trying to discover our calling during our teens and twenties > Seeing Jesus in the people around us and sitting next to us > The divine in the human being is transcendent in many many religions > Is our soul the divine within each and every one of us > Johnny's need to explore William Blake other than his knowledge of this great artist from the Hannibal and Red Dragon movies > The Men of Kappa League wearing the garments of righteousness and inspiration > Big things are very important, but it is those little things that make us know we are loved > Nick Saban and The Process - nothing is minuscule, it's all important > God is in the details or is the Devil in the details > Workaholism and the temptation of working to help others instead of working on ourselves To hear Rev. One might wonder what chicken wings, sports announcing, nursing, parenting, entrepreneurship, and admissions have in common. If you don't know, then you haven't met Brandon Elliott. I met Brandon several years ago at a speaking engagement I had, and we have been connected ever since. In this conversation, Brandon and I talk about being a male nurse, how he's overcome discrimination in his work and in his life, how he makes a difference teaching social media to kids in his S.M.A.R.T. program (S.M.A.R.T. stands for Social Media Awareness & Responsibility Training), sports, and a whole lot more. More about Brandon Elliott As a graduate from the College of Mount St. Joseph Brandon earned his nursing degree while playing football. He was a captain on their undefeated team in 2004 as well. Brandon worked in the hospital setting before finding his niche in long term care. He became a director of nursing services by the age of 26 and is currently known in the Cincinnati marketplace as the nurse liaison for Oak Pavilion nursing center. As a nurse liaison Brandon has become known as a straightforward, responsive professional to the discharge planners in all the area hospitals. He is also using his nursing platform to speak with teenagers about the healthcare field and the wonderful field of nursing. Here is where chicken wings come in. Brandon's in-laws run a local watering hole, which he takes his turn working. It is a great place for him to catch up with friends while watching his beloved Bengals and Reds. Speaking of spare time, Brandon seems to pack a lot into a little. As a graduate and student athlete at Purcell Marian high school here in Cincinnati, Brandon supports his alma mater in several ways. He is a mentor to many of the African-American athletes starting at their first day of school. The most notable role is that of Internet broadcaster for the athletic contests at Purcell Marian. Brandon proudly represents both The National Black Nurses Association and The American Assembly for Men in Nursing. His spearheading of the annual fundraiser event has made it possible for more scholarships to be awarded for thriving students. He has recently been named the Chair for Social Media/Technology for the National Chapter. It was not a surprise to see Brandon listed as a recipient of the 1st Annual NBNA “Under 40” award! Brandon is also the co-founder and CEO of the social media awareness and responsibility training (SMART) program. This non-profit organization was created with his best friend after seeing several student-athletes lose out on scholarships and opportunities because of their social media image and brand. The SMART Program’s mission is to teach students to teach students to use social media in a mature, savvy way, for the purpose of creating a positive personal brand. Our goal is to reach 1 million people by year 2020. 2016 has been great with 40 presentations in the books and over 20 scheduled for 2017! The most important role that Brandon fills is that of father. Brandon is married to his high school sweetheart and has three very active and pretty daughters, Avery, Macy, and Laney.
