Drawing from Carol Dweck's book "Mindset: The New Psychology of Success," they explore how changing your perspective from "I'm not good with money" to "I'm not good with money yet" can open up opportunities for financial growth and learning. Main Topics Covered: • Definition and differences between fixed mindset and growth mindset • How mindset affects financial behavior and decision-making • The power of labels in personal development • Common financial mindset traps in the military community • Ways to develop a growth mindset with money • The impact of mindset on relationships and money management Links We Discussed Today: Look for personal finance books on the Libby App (using free DOD MWR library) Carol Dweck's "Mindset" book See quick book summary on fs.blog or her TED talk "I Will Teach You to be Rich" by Ramit Sethi "The Simple Path to Wealth" by JL Collins "The Psychology of Money" by Morgan Housel "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki Military One Source Personal Finance Club For a limited time, Spencer is offering one-on-one Military Money Mentor sessions! “The Limit Does Not Exist!”Calling all Mathletes! This week we are talking about the troubled life of mathematician Milo Andret, the protagonist and anti-hero of Ethan Canin's book "A Daughter's Almanac". This book is a favorite of my guest, Marty Mooradian. When Marty isn't selling apartment complexes with Colliers International, he's acting in plays and tv commercials, producing electronic dance music and living his best life as the most well known “Dining Room DJ” in Bon Air. What's the connection between audiobooks and podcasts? You already know the right tone and voice is essential for building a connection with your listeners. It just makes sense, then, that you can turn to different kinds of audio media for inspiration when looking to further hone your skills behind the mic. Take, for example, audiobooks. Especially in the last year or so, the connection between audiobooks and podcasts has expanded beyond the shared audio medium. Platforms like Spotify are putting a lot of their chips on audiobooks, and podcasters need to start considering this angle more closely from a marketing perspective. Luckily, plenty of the takeaways Mary has gleaned over years of working in the biz of spoken audio apply to both podcast and audiobook narration, and in this episode, she's sharing her tips. Uncover the secrets to speaking more engagingly no matter which spoken audio platform you use: The importance of nailing down your tone and style Why recording an audiobook isn't just “reading your own words” How to make your audio listeners feel as seen as your print audience Why you don't have to read your book word-for-word Links worth mentioning from the episode: Audio Publishers Association Sales and Consumer Data - https://www.audiopub.org/surveys The ACX audio submission requirements - https://help.acx.com/s/article/acx-audio-submission-requirements Audible Audiobooks - https://www.audible.ca/ The Libby App - https://www.overdrive.com/apps/libby Libro.FM for Audiobooks - https://libro.fm/ Connect with Mary! Brittany and Jeannetta welcome Amelia Louise Herridge Ishak to the podcast to discuss reading as a writer. Amelia comes from London, England and has an MPhil in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic and moved to Aarhus, Denmark hunting for viking myths and monsters. Norse mythology and the rawness of Scandinavian nature inspires her work. She joined the Aarhus Women Write in 2017 and took over the running of it in 2020. The three discuss early childhood reading interests and how that has influenced their writing today, what genres and styles inspire them and the other reasons why they read besides pleasure or craft. Amelia's piece which is shared on the podcast, "The Hidden Spirit of the Forest" is available in Meet me at 19th St available here: https://archstreetpress.org/2021/11/02/the-hidden-spirit-of-the-forest/. Questions How much has your childhood reading interests influenced the way you write or the topics you write about? How much have your reading habits changed since becoming a writer? Do you read more around the genres and styles you write in? Do you write in the style and genres you read in? Is this different to when you were younger/before you became a writer? We often hear how other writers inspire or influence other writers in a positive way, but what are some things that you have read where you have thought "I never want to write like that" and learnt what not to do? Besides pleasure and improvement of your craft (which are some of the reasons I read) what are some other reasons you read? As a follow up to #1, what are the other ways reading has improved your creative practice besides the writing itself? (related to your question #2)? Featuring: Ammosart, Ashgar, Belghast, Grace, and Kodra Tonight we have a bit of a short show as we had to punt several topics to next week since Tam and Thalen were out. Kodra talks about streaming a day of Celeste Strawberry Jam and his experiences playing the game with a pillowcase on his head. I review the libby app in this episode. Intro and outro @nikkos Ramone Recorded and edited @mzoundz. When was the last time you were in a bookstore or stepped foot into a library or got drawn into the latest thing to read at the airport? Unless you just have to have the paperback version, there's a way to read or listen to the latest publication for free. Welcome Drea's point of view. I am your hostess Drea and would like to not only thank you for giving me a few minutes of your time, but extend an invitation to follow the show @Drea'spointofview on all socials except Twitter. On Twitter, you can find me @Dreapoint. I came across this app that lets you download books as well as audio books. All you need to do is enter your library card information and it gives you listings of books that you can download and get a sample of. You can put a hold on some books and be notified once it's on your virtual shelf. I wanna say you can keep the book for about two weeks or so. Read at your leisure and save tons of money. And that app is the Libby app, Libby. Of course, if you have a library card, you can just go in a place-- go into the library and take the book out. But then you run into fees. If it's late, go into the actual library instead of having the inconvenience of doing everything on your phone like we do anyway, it won't let you be late. Returning it will send you a reminder when it's due and it'll just go back into the system. It's not a bad deal. For those of you avid book readers, so check out that Libby app the next time you hear about someone who has a book out and so many people have books out now, so check it out. I would love for you to subscribe to my show so that you are not missing any of these episodes that I have for you. I am not trying to change your point of view. I simply hope that you listen to Drea's Point of view. Suzanne interviews transformational pundit Kute Jackson about the healing power of surrender to help us transform and move forward in life. Today's show begins with my list of 100 Free and Low Cost Self-Care ideas …in case global inflation is getting the better of you. You can find the complete list on the link below in RESOURCES. Surrender + Trust = Magic…that's what today's guest, Kute Jackson, says—and he's got a point! I learned this big time after my late daughter Teal's death in 2012. Surrender is so hard, but so helpful. Listen in and get some really great ideas about what makes us happy in life—and now to get there yourself. I learned this while chatting with Kute: How Kute's mother's death inspired his search for surrender A near-death experience that helped me really get a grip Why ‘Control is the master addiction' How to get out of your own way The role of the ego in keeping us small How to navigate the unknown that comes with surrender How you can get started on your own search for happiness and surrender I ended this show with a quote from the journal my late daughter Teal left behind, as a great example of that necessary surrender and letting go. May it inspire you…. “So, I chose to go in and meditate, and I got this: ‘Open your heart, open your soul and be.' The whole ‘be' thing really made an impact on me. I realized in life I am never really there. I tend to be thinking about the future or past or something someone said instead of being in the moment and taking it in for all its beauty. After this meditation, I knew I had been transformed because I looked out over the ocean and mountain scene in front of me and started to cry. I was really able to take it all in. I finally realized how blessed I am to be here, and how many beautiful things there are here.” Sent with love, Suzanne RESOURCES AG1— Get a FREE 1 year supply of immune-supporting Vitamin D AND 5 FREE travel packs with your first purchase.
