In this episode of the Big Money Stylist Podcast, Danielle K. White, the creator of Natural Beaded Rows (NBR) extensions and ISLA Hand Tied Hair, is joined by fellow stylist and salon owner Danielle Sprando. The conversation dives into the challenges and triumphs of becoming a new salon owner, the importance of effective communication and education with apprentices, and the ongoing journey of personal and professional growth. Danielle S. shares her recent experience of opening her salon and the goals she has set for herself, including becoming a better leader and mentor for her team. The discussion also touches on the value of setting realistic goals, the concept of living in "the gap" versus "the gain," and the significance of appreciating current achievements while striving for future success. Your Top 5 Action Items From this Episode: 1. Communicate Effectively: Whether you're working with clients or training apprentices, clear and detailed communication is key. Start practicing over-communication to ensure everyone is on the same page. 2. Set Structured Goals: Instead of vague resolutions, set specific, structured goals that align with your personal and professional aspirations. For salon owners, this might mean focusing on becoming a better leader and educator. 4. Appreciate the Present: While it's important to have future goals, don't overlook your current successes. Practice gratitude for where you are now and the progress you've made. 5. Seek Continuous Education: No matter how experienced you are, there's always room to learn and grow. Consider enrolling in advanced courses or workshops to refine your skills and stay updated with the latest industry trends. 6. Delegate with Oversight: As a salon owner, learn to delegate tasks effectively. If you're not keen on managing certain aspects of the business, hire someone with the right experience and establish regular check-ins to stay informed. ____________________ Let's Connect... It's episode 200 of The Big Money Stylist Podcast! And what better topic than why you should always continue with education?  Just because you're good at hair doesn't mean you're an educator, and even then you should STILL be continuing your education! Just because you take one course does not mean you are an expert.    Maybe you are certified, but do you actually know what you're doing?    You might be taking a ton of different certification courses, but actually continuing your education is a little different because you can really dive into your craft & perfect every little thing.   What does continuing your education mean to you? That might be something you want to ask yourself. Do you find yourself wanting MORE?   Continued education should be intentional.    Are you hitting your checklist of going to classes, or are you actually able to apply this to your business? Your bank account should reflect your progress. If you can see actual evidence of your growth, then it is working! You are growing!  You can do it, and you can hit the checklist, or you can commit to the outcome. That is where you can look at something with intention & really figure out where you want to go.    Analyze your own work. Be open to feedback. Really look at your work & find something that you can work on, then find something you did a great job with.    It is important to look at your goals, start where you're at & then commit. Don't forget to celebrate how far you have come. That is HUGE! You cannot truly appreciate how far you have come and recognize your growth if you're not celebrating the wins! Do NOT let your stories dictate your actions.  You got this & remember to commit & be consistent with the small things. The small consistencies are going to give you the biggest growth! If you're ready to continue your education, then we have an offer just for you! The NBR® Online Course is a great way to be introduced to the method of Natural Beaded Rows®. Setting personal and professional boundaries that are both effective and long-lasting can sometimes be SO difficult... And, once they are set in place, it can be even harder to KEEP them there. Whether it be with clients, relatives, close friends, or co-workers - or even business partners, a domestic partner, or a significant other - setting and keeping boundaries that are clear and healthily firm is arguably one the most crucially necessary habits to maintaining the priceless integrity of our mental, physical, and emotional health and well-being.  So when we know it's time to set that boundary in our professional and/or personal lives, how do we overcome the guilt and shame so we can just do what we know is actually the right thing for us? And is selfishness a good thing in this scenario? In this new episode, Danielle and Anianne discuss the very real and tricky dance of setting personal and professional boundaries and more - plus talk about various ways to commit to making and keeping healthy boundaries established in our daily personal and professional lives. Overconfidence can oftentimes be the precursor to major disappointment. We believe that our natural abilities in a certain area are so good, that we get the idea in our heads that we cannot fail. And, then, when we do inevitably fail...we wonder if we were any good to begin with. This moment can cause either one of two feelings:  1. Fear: "an unpleasant, often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger" or  2. Panic: "a sudden overwhelming fear, with or without cause, that produces hysterical or irrational behavior, and that often spreads quickly". So, when we feel either of these feelings, how do we calm these sudden emotional tides - whether it be at home or in the workplace - so that we can start focusing on the right things, move forward with stronger clarity, and perform to the best of our natural abilities? In this new episode of the BMS podcast, Anianne Rivera and guest host Katie Guthrie discuss their most humbling moments of failure, how they overcame their fear and panic, and how they challenged their comfort zones and broke open the ceilings of their own limitations to reach new levels of success.   Quotes of the week: "People get so stuck on the "wrong thing" that they never launch anything. Commitments. They tell us exactly where we're at, and...they tell us exactly where we're not. They are our own personal mirrors that reflect to us our everyday reality for what it is. So, if we want to "see a different reflection" in our own mirrors of commitment - then, what are we willing to do match the desire of a certain result to an unshakeable commitment to achieve it?  In this week's profoundly hard-hitting episode of the BMS podcast, Danielle and Ani discuss the ways in which our commitments (or lack thereof) shape us, how we can overcome self doubt, and how choosing growth over comfort can help us sculpt our reality into the landscape of our wildest, bravest, dreams.  Quotes of the week: "It doesn't matter. you need to commit. Guilt. It's a poison that comes at us from all sides. And sometimes it comes from the most unlikely of places, and for the most unlikely of reasons. So, when guilt does come up - whether from a friend, a client, a co-worker, or family member - how do we receive this guilt with grace and let it go? In this brand new, beautifully inspiring episode of the BMS Podcast, Danielle is back in the lineup with Anianne as they vibe out about finding ways - both personally and professionally - to give oneself permission to let go of the guilt, find harmony and balance in your energy, and live a life full of health, vibrancy, and sustainability. Plus, tune in til the end as Danielle has a very special announcement to make. Quotes of the week: "It doesn't matter what your story is. Do you ever feel guilty for taking a break from work, even though you probably haven't had a day off in two days...or maybe even two weeks? Do you ever wonder why it's been so normalized to run and survive off of only your favorite Starbucks drink, a few bites (if that) of food -- and zero bathroom breaks? Why is it so easy to justify being a martyr in the workplace? How do we balance deep, impactful, and fulfilling work while also finding time for deep, impactful, and fulfilling rest - and not feel guilty about it? In this brand new, powerful, and intensive episode, listen as Ani Rivera and guest host Katie Guthrie address the issue of feeling habitual guilt and shame surrounding making time for rest from our work. Listen as they discuss different ways to feel good about making time away from our work for healthy, reasonable space to recharge and recuperate our mind, body, and spirit. They also explore the ever-important topic of research, how to handle your clients’ expectations, and share the steps they are taking that are radically challenging the hair industry’s wide-spread “pay-to-play” policy. *Repeat Episode From January 2019*     In Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection     In This Week’s Episode…..PROTECTION     Point #1: Embrace Change   Fashions and styles come and go and have a tendency to repeat every thirty years or so. Danielle remarks, “Let go of the old and accept the new. The old becomes the new new, so just let go.” “While short haircuts are trendy, extensions are always going to be classic and cool. We just need to make sure the styles stay consistent with the times.”   QUESTION     What fashions or styles have been your favorites through the years?     Point #2: Hand-Tied Hair     Extension hair comes machine-tied and hand-tied. Sixteen years ago, Danielle discovered hand-tied hair. She liked it because the weft was so much thinner and the density from top to bottom was so much fuller.  Hand-tied hair is super trendy right now. It’s important to do your research because there are so many different installation methods. Natural Beaded Rows is one of the installation methods of the hand-tied hair.     QUESTION     As an Artist, what different types of installation methods have you exerienced?     Point #3: Time, Reps & Experience     Ani: You can be doing something for ten years but are only doing it for five minutes every day, or you can be doing something for a year but are spending seven hours a day doing it. I’ll choose the seven-hour person every time. Danielle: You have to have reps in something in order to become an expert. When people say they’ve been doing hair for 20-30 years, they don’t understand that the experience you’ve had, Ani, could be equal to or more than what they’ve done.     QUESTION     Where in your world do you know you’re lacking reps?     Point #4: Managing Client Expectations     When you have a client who hasn’t experienced extensions, you need to take more time with them and describe how to take care of the extensions. You almost need to baby them at first. It’s also important to be able to have direct communication with them which you may not be accustomed to doing. Yet, as the professional, it’s vital that you have these direct conversations with them. (What is your hair policy? Do they need new hair? How long is your work guaranteed?)   QUESTION     How can your improve the direct conversations with your clients?     Point #5:  The World of Pay to Play     Ani: Inside the hair world, you pay to play. You paid your money so now you’re ‘qualified and certified.’ The changes we’ve made inside of our education now means something. It means something to do NBR, it means something to be a licensed artist, not just, “I paid money, took one class, and now I’m certified.” Danielle: We had to make some hard decisions within our education. We pumped on the brakes and put qualifications in place. We received a lot of backlash for it but that’s ok. There’s no point being in business if you’re not trying to up the game. It’s always important to take a step back and look at the reality of where you are.   QUESTION     What have you done lately to “up your game?”   Quote of the Week:  “People are giving way too much credit to popularity vs actually doing the research. Not every artist, salon, or technique is created equal.” –Danielle K White “As a consumer myself, I do crazy research and am super psycho about it. It’s that important to me.” –Anianne Rivera

The White’s are in the studio this week having a conversation about the importance of clear communication and framing as an Artist, especially within the elite luxury experience of Danielle’s creation, Natural Beaded Rows. *This is an encore presentation of a previously recorded episode. Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection In This Week’s Episode…..PRODUCTION Point #1: The Bigger Picture In 2010, Garrett was the man behind the camera filming Danielle’s first educational videos for the Natural Beaded Rows Extension method she created. While editing her first video, the thought of “Who do you think you are?” entered Danielle’s mind, which thought was quickly replaced with, “You have no idea how many people this is going to impact.” QUESTION Where did your journey begin as an artist? Point #2: Clear Communication Artists have to powerfully communicate with clients what they’re going to do before the appointment begins. As an artist, you must own that you’re the expert. It’s your job to lay out the facts and the outcomes so the client knows exactly what to expect. QUESTION How do you set yourself apart as the expert? Point #3: Framing Inside of Seduction Framing is the reality when it comes to seduction and assisting people to make better decisions. It’s the ability to put a particular story around the way someone views something. What framing does is create for the individual who is going to buy from you price elasticity. Our story about what we’re going to pay for something opens up and actually becomes something bigger because of the new frame. QUESTION How are you framing the experience your clients receive? Point #4: NBR is the Bently of Extensions When you’re dealing with high-end services, you’ve eliminated 90% of the marketplace. Let them go somewhere else. When we talk about Natural Beaded Rose, we’re talking about a luxury product that helps people change the way they see themselves. QUESTION What elite experience do you provide for your clients? Point #5:  Communication Equals Cash The conversation of power inside of a frame of elite services exists when the client is in the chair, but they’ve already moved themselves into that place. Pricing and communication become simpler because you’ve already been communicating the value of that service from the very beginning. QUESTION What can you do to improve the way you communicate with your clients about the services you’re providing? Quote of the Week: “What framing does is create for the individual who is going to buy from you, price elasticity.” –Garrett J White “When you have a niche or specialty, you can get away with charging a little more. Part of it is because you’re an expert in that niche.” –Danielle K White

DATE YOUR WIFE

*This week's episode is a special encore presentation of a previously published episode of the Date Your Wife podcast.* This week Garrett and Danielle tackle the topic of money as dual producers. Their marriage was on the verge of divorce when Danielle found motivation to take care of herself as a possible single parent, ultimately leading to the success we see today with her salon, DKW Styling, and in her technique known as Natural Beaded Rows.   Point #1: Inside the Pit of Chaos During the time they were knocking on the door of divorce, Garrett was reeling from the market crash and had stopped producing. There’s an interesting game that plays out inside of money when the man isn’t producing, and together they were trying to figure it all out. During that transition, it really depolarized them as a couple energetically. Danielle realized she could help out financially and began turning her business into something more than a hobby. She wanted to be taken care of and also wanted to have freedom from the guilt of buying nice things for herself, remembering how her mother worked so their family could have nice things beyond their basic needs. QUESTION How have you seen your roles altered inside your marriage when financial challenges have arisen? Point #2: The Fight For the Throne There was this huge shift of power that came about because of money. Garrett went from the king of the castle to the servant of the queen who had her feet on both thrones while simultaneously wearing both the King’s crown and the Queen’s crown. This is the reality of production: it’s not just about the topic of money, it’s about the power play of production. Many times when a man loses the ability to produce and provide, and loses trust inside of that relationship, the woman is forced to go into masculine mode in order to produce, which creates this whole different dynamic and challenge. Garrett was under assault and fighting for the throne that Danielle was sitting on. Gentlemen, you’re not getting the throne until you prove that you’re actually the man. QUESTION Where are you as a couple in this Game of Thrones?  Point #3: From Gucci’s to Steel Toed Dude Shoes Danielle felt like she was the man in the relationship. If Garrett was trying to control her she’d tell him “you don’t have a fucking leg to stand on right now.” She was constantly annoyed by him and always trying to pull the rug out from under him which led to a lot of wars. When Garrett started becoming more consistent, Danielle felt that the safety net was back and she could start letting up a little on her intensity of the hustle and grind. As she let up on the gas, Garrett began getting in her face to prove he was more powerful. They started to go to war in a different direction which killed their ability to communicate. QUESTION How have you experienced this dynamic as a couple?  Point #4: Selective Cheap Bastard Mode Danielle: Garrett’s not big on any holiday. Most people look forward to holidays but he doesn’t. My love language is all about the gifts, but his isn’t. He’ll give a bum $40 and yet forget my birthday or won’t do anything for it. I’ve now figured out a little trick that gets me what I want from Garrett. Garrett: There will be times when Danielle wants to do something financially and I am thinking “this is ridiculous, there’s no fucking way, I don’t get it.” On the flip side, when it comes to rebuilding a salon, I’ll turn the switch on and Danielle goes into cheap bastard mode saying, “No!” My justification with money is: if it’s an investment, I put the money in. QUESTION What are your ‘Cheap Bastard Modes?’ What dynamic does that create in your relationship? Point #5: The Collision Inside the Money Game After eight months of not going to battle, they found themselves in the middle of a war zone recently around the topic of business. This reminded Garrett of a ‘shit show’ they created years back while dining in a quaint little restaurant in Beverly Hills, where they were both losing their minds and Garrett was ready to throw the table across the room. Garrett: It comes down to this: People want to feel validated in their desires with money. I want to feel validated inside my world when it comes to what I want financially, and you want to feel validated that your opinion matters when it comes to what you want financially. QUESTION  Do you battle often as a couple? How much of that is ‘healthy collision’ and how much of it is a down right war zone?   Communication Challenge: Begin the conversation of validation and what it looks like for each of you inside of your relationship.     Date Night Topic: What is going to be the next stretch for you two as a couple financially that will pull you two forward? For us, it was our new home. What will it be for you?   Quote of the Week: The moment I began to see that my family was an investment, I began to see the value in myself even more.” —Garrett J White “If you are trying to go to the next level in any area of your life, just take a look at what is possible. A lot of people focus on their current reality and think, “I can’t possibly go there” instead of asking, “What if?” or “I wonder?” We are both entrepreneurs, and I know that moving forward is always an option, regardless of where we currently are.” —Danielle K White

Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection In This Week’s Episode…..COMMUNICATION Point #1: The Bigger Picture In 2010, Garrett was the man behind the camera filming Danielle’s first educational videos for the Natural Beaded Rows Extension method she created. Part of it is because you’re an expert in that niche.”

As the Big Money Stylist podcast continues gaining in popularity as the #1 podcast in Fashion and Beauty, as well as one of the top 50 overall podcasts in iTunes, Danielle and her team are grateful for their audience and are committed to bringing massive value through their timely, lively and oft times spicy shows. This week's topic of Protection is a passionate favorite amongst the ladies of DKW Styling. For Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection In This Week's Episode.....PROTECTION Point #1: Sharing is Not Always Caring Over a ten year period, Danielle created a brand called Natural Beaded Rows. In the beginning, "sharing was caring," but there came a point in time when it became imperative for Danielle to protect the brand she had spent years creating and perfecting. She also realized the importance of protecting the experience of her client by doing away with her shadowing program. "I try to look at anything I do from the perspective of the client. If I was booking an appointment at a high end salon, what would I want my experience to look like?" QUESTION: How are you protecting the experience of your clients? Point #2: Are You in Alignment? There was a period of time in Danielle's life when she and her husband felt the need to protect their marriage and family by distancing themselves from and letting go of relationships that were no longer serving them, instead creating new relationships that aligned with their vision. You meet people in your life that help you connect from point A to point B. Once they stop serving you in a good way or adding any positivity to your life, you have to step back and ask yourself if it's worth trying to fix, or if it's time to move on. QUESTION: Look inside your life and inside your circle of influence - the people you're constantly around. Is there someone you know you need to be protecting yourself from? Point #3: Protecting the Client Danielle: Because I wear NBR extensions in my hair, when I hear stories on social media of salons using knock off versions of NBR and making scalps bleed, I'm like what the fuck! I can't even stand it. We have to protect our brand with the client because we're delivering a different service, a different product and a different experience than what's found outside of our salons. Jillian: I think it's disrespectful to the client if you don't know what the hell you're doing. We ask the people in our Mastermind to do 15 minutes of power practice every day which shows dedication to their clients and to their craft. Ani: When clients come and sit in our chair, they're trusting us to put our hands in their hair, to put chemicals in their hair, to change shit up and to really make a big difference for them, which makes their experience a top priority for us. QUESTION: Are you really giving your clients the best experience you can? Are you treating them the way you would want to be treated? Point #4: Churn and Burn No More Danielle: The retention of a client is becoming a lost and forgotten art in the hair industry. When you have the mindset of churn and burn, what the fuck does that say to your client? It says you don't give a shit about them. When you up the game and up the experience, not only is your client going to be happy, she's going to tell other people about her experience. At DKW Salons, one of the ways we protect ourselves, our brand and our clients is by creating a connection and killer experience for them right from the very start. We do this by paying close attention to the details before and after their appointment, we send follow up emails and reach out to them to see how they're doing. Creating an amazing client experience is a top priority for us. QUESTION: What systems do you have in place that focus on Client Retention and the Client Experience? Point #5: Winds of Change Danielle: We're rebirthing stylists to a new level. No more crappy routines and behaviors and all that shit that doesn't serve you. We're getting rid of all these bad habits and routines and putting stylists more on a pedestal. Ani: We're changing the game. We've literally taken the hair world and flipped it upside down. What we do is not normal, it's not seen and it's super intense. Having an emphasis on having a skill is not enough anymore. BMS (Big Money Stylist) is the methodology of NBR (Natural Beaded Rose) married up to business and marketing tactics. Conventions are held throughout the year where hundreds of Artists attend. BMS Intensives are smaller classes that cap out at 20 people for more personal, one-on-one hands on training. To be considered for either of these, please visit our website and fill out an application. bigmoneystylist.com  QUESTION: Are you ready to jump into this movement that's taking the hair industry by storm?   Quote of the Week: "A lot of stylists go into hair with the goal of eventually owning their own place, yet they don't know business, they don't know client retention, they don't know client experience or know how to emotionally deal with the client as the professional. We are at a tipping point which is so cool for me to see. I believe that what we are doing is 100% changing the game and is impacting our industry on a huge level." -- Danielle White "At the end of the day, when we go through and protect the clients by doing the power practice, doing NBR every single day, getting better at the beadwork, stitching and color - protecting them in that sense of practicing and giving them a good experience - it also protects us and the brand as well." --Anianne Rivera "I feel like I have to protect myself from myself. I'm like my own worst enemy, my harshest critic. Your heart knows what an amazing individual you are, so let it shine. Have that spark always. Don't let yourself dwindle by other outside factors. Put a bubble around you, one that allows people inside if they're awesome. Let yourself be you!" --Jillian Cheel   Stay Tuned for Next Week's Topic....POWER

In today's episode Garrett lets out the HEAT when facing a keyboard vigilante that was trying to call his wife out on her hair technique known as Natural Beaded Rows, mocking her through a venomous post but not willing to take any heat when Garrett responded back to her, calling his counterattack harassment. This is a common occurrence in society today as anyone with anything to say can say anything online, thinking that there's no ramifications for it. Not in Garrett's house.  _______________________________ You are listening to the Warrior On Fire, Daily Fuel podcast with your host, Garrett J White.
