SPOILER ALERT: This episode will spoil the story and ending to the first season of Netflix's The Witcher. But if you haven't played the CDPR games yet, don't worry! The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt takes place several years after the events of the books and therefore is its own storyline.  It was bound to happen. As soon as someone uttered "...place of power, gotta be" on this show, it was destined that we would one day be uploading an episode where Andrew "ummm actually"s everyone through each of the books in The Witcher series. Well that day has finally arrived! And with the release of the fantastic Netflix adaptation, we decided to focus this episode on the first two books, which are actually a collection of several short stories that set up this universe. We're taking you through each of the short stories found in "The Last Wish" and "Sword of Destiny," and then comparing how those stories are represented in the Netflix show. Toss a coin, nerds...it's time. Debate This! is a dumb show where grown men yell at each other over video games and comics. Check out more of our incessant arguments at debatethiscast.com and keep the conversation going by following us on social media @debatethiscast. We're back to talk about Netflix's The Witcher and we're exhausted! The Witcher is an American fantasy drama series produced by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. It is based on the book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. The first season, consisting of eight episodes, was released on Netflix in its entirety on December 20, 2019. Set in a medieval fictional world on a landmass known as "the Continent", The Witcher follows the story of solitary monster hunter Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) and Cintran princess Ciri (Freya Allan), who find their destinies tied together. The first season is based on The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny, a collection of short stories which precede the main Witcher saga. It explores formative events that shaped the three lead characters, prior to their first encounters with each other.
