The OHL considers increasing Imports and Oshawa returns to the East Final

We can continue the debate about whether this was the best OHL second round in a decade, but we can do it after we enjoy two Game 7's. That's right, half of the OHL's second round series' are going the distance and, in the case of Windsor-Kitchener, one team is trying to come back from 0-3 down. It's going to be a great day for the league and its fans. London, which still hasn't dropped a game in these playoffs, awaits the West winner while the Oshawa Generals will watch Barrie and Kingston to see where they play next (Oshawa, the 4-seed, will start the East Final on the road). Speaking of Oshawa, the Gens came into this season on a mission. After being swept out of last year's OHL Final by London, the Gens' plan was to finish what they started in 2024. Are they on a collision course with the Knights again? Jack Moore, the voice of the Oshawa Generals, joins us to break down the season and the playoffs so far. He'll also tell Farwell how he got it so wrong after Farwell picked Oshawa to lose in both the first AND second rounds this year. We've got more news from around the league, too, as there's talk of increasing the number of Imports, an Eastern Conference team gets a 15-year extension on its arena lease (but that arena needs some TLC), and OHL fans got robbed of one of the league's most dynamic players to end the playoffs (and, as a result, Brantford's season may have ended prematurely). Plus, when in Windsor, while there are many places to find a great pizza, only one place serves the best. I dare you to argue with me (ohlpodcast@rogers.com). The OHL Podcast is supported by Draft Kings Sportsbook.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have made waves with the acquisition of defenseman Chris Tanev and their strategic moves in the 2024 NHL Draft. Let's dive into the details of these significant developments. The Leafs have bolstered their defensive lineup by trading for Chris Tanev, a move that has generated a lot of buzz among fans and analysts alike. At 34 years old, Tanev's age is a consideration, and there are rumors that his contract term could be between 6-7 years. While this long-term commitment has potential risks, the immediate benefits he brings to the team could outweigh these concerns. If the Leafs do lock him up, the team stands to gain a proper shut down pair in Tanev and McCabe or a legitimate partner for Morgan Rielly. Tanev's fit within the team will be crucial, and fans are eager to see how he integrates with the existing defensive structure. The Leafs' approach to the 2024 NHL Draft was both strategic and forward-thinking, involving several trades and carefully considered selections. The Leafs traded their 23rd overall pick to Anaheim in exchange for the 31st and 58th picks. Subsequently, they traded the 58th pick for Florida's 2025 second-round pick and the 225th pick. This maneuvering means the Leafs have no picks in the first four rounds of 2025, but the additional second-round pick, though likely late, provides flexibility for future trade deadline acquisitions or restocking their prospect pool. The Leafs selected Ben Danford from the Oshawa Generals with the 31st overall pick. Danford, standing at 6'1" and weighing 194 lbs, is seen as a promising prospect. According to those familiar with his play, Danford has a range of translatable skills to the NHL level, which is a significant asset for a player selected late in the first round.Scouting reports from various experts have praised Danford's potential. The Director of Scouting for McKeen's Hockey noted that Danford possesses several key attributes that could make him a valuable player at the NHL level. For those interested in detailed draft analysis and prospect breakdowns, Scouching.ca is a recommended resource. Tanev's addition brings a seasoned, defensively reliable presence, while the draft picks add promising talent to the team's prospect pool. Jeff Ware was a blue-chip prospect.A 6'4", 220 pounds, mobile defender that loved to hit. Plus he was from Toronto! Jeff Ware seemed like a perfect fit for the Maple Leafs.Drafted 15th overall, Ware stepped right into the lineup for the Leafs as a rookie and played admirably. Ultimately he was released to junior that season, where he played in a World Junior Championships and won gold, and then helped the Oshawa Generals win an OHL Championship.Things were looking very promising. Jeff was right where he needed to be.And then Jeff had his first knee surgery of 5, and from that point on it was slow decline from the player that was drafted 15th overall. There is always pressure, but being a 1st rounder to the Maple Leafs, being from Toronto, and dealing with an injury and pro hockey, it can become overwhelming. And the Toronto Maple Leafs did not have the support in place for prospects that they should have.Jeff shares his story. His journey, personal and physical, through pro hockey.Jeff gets raw and honest about his title as "one of the worst draft picks in Maple Leaf history".I suppose the title might be fair if one strictly looks at the stats on the back of his hockey card, but once you get the inside story, we learn that Jeff never really had the chance.Hockey can be tough. Ware knows that firsthand. But through his journey he shares that he learned a lot about himself and a lot about life and he is a better human for it.Here is the story of Jeff Ware.
