Entering the Selective Service office, the nine took 378 draft files from cabinets, took them outside, and burned them in the parking lot with a batch of homemade napalm.Learn more about resistance to the Vietnam war in the US in episodes 43 to 46 of our podcast: https://workingclasshistory.com/podcast/e43-46-the-movement-against-the-vietnam-war-in-the-us/Our work is only possible because of support from you, our listeners on patreon. BY EARLY 1941, the U.S. Army knew it was about to get sucked into at least one of the wars that were already raging around the world. The Selective Service and Training Act had passed the previous fall, and already young American men were being drafted into the Army, swelling its ranks with green recruits. Sooner or not much later they'd be in combat, fighting for their lives. There was no time to be lost — those combat noobs had to be trained and hardened and prepared so that they would have as good a chance as possible when thrown into the fight. With that in mind, the Army started looking for suitable locations for a combat-training campus between Portland and San Francisco on the West Coast. It would need to be about 65,000 acres and, in addition to the usual building sites and gunnery ranges, it would have to include geography similar to the sites where the fighting was expected to happen: rolling hills, steep slopes, swampy terrain, thick forests, and something approximating jungle foliage. Moving very fast — after all, new conscripts were coming in all the time — the Army settled on two prospective sites: one near Eugene, and one just north of Corvallis. The Corvallis site won the toss — there were fewer residents to be displaced, and the railroad and highway infrastructure was more developed. That was in June 1941. By the end of that year, the funds were allocated and the plans drawn up, and nine months later Oregon's second largest city had spring into being out of the swampy ground. President Donald Trump says talks with Iran could resume within the next two days, signaling a possible pause in escalating tensions. The comment comes as diplomatic efforts continue behind the scenes amid uncertainty over whether negotiations will actually restart. China has allowed a U.S.-sanctioned oil tanker to sail through the Strait of Hormuz, defying President Trump’s efforts to tighten control of the vital shipping lane. The move underscores rising geopolitical tensions as Beijing signals it will keep energy supplies moving despite U.S. pressure and regional conflict. The U.S. will begin automatically registering eligible men for the Selective Service starting in late 2026. Officials say the change modernizes the system and boosts compliance, while stressing it does not reinstate the military draft. Tonight, we break down the growing controversy surrounding Rep. Eric Swalwell and why critics across the political spectrum say his latest headlines could be politically damaging. Is this just another media firestorm, or is it a sign that his future in public office is hanging by a thread? We're giving you the bold, opinionated Arrington Gavin Show take on what this means for Democrats, Republicans, and the broader political climate. We're also tapping into entertainment news as **Usher and Chris Brown officially announce their highly anticipated 2026 co-headlining Raymond & Brown Tour, sending R&B fans into a frenzy. The two superstars teased the tour with a cinematic rollout, and even without dates yet, it's already shaping up to be one of the biggest concert events of the year. And in a major national story, we discuss the new federal change that will automatically register eligible men ages 18–25 for the Selective Service beginning in December 2026. Important context: this is not an active military draft, but it does remove the need for young men to manually sign up, fueling fresh debate about privacy, preparedness, and whether America is inching closer to conscription policy changes.

he headlines say you have "no choice," but what is the actual law? In this episode of Chaos Culture Radio, we dive into the recent legislative move to automate Selective Service registration for all male U.S. citizens and residents aged 18 to 25.We're cutting through the panic to explain why this isn't a "draft" call-up, but rather a massive shift in how the federal government handles military readiness data.In this episode, we discuss:The "Automatic" Shift: How the new system pulls from existing federal databases (like the DMV and Social Security) to register men without them filling out a postcard. The "Why" Now: Analyzing the 2026 update designed to save millions in administrative costs and eliminate the "felony" risk for men who simply forget to register.Draft vs. Registration: Explaining the crucial difference between being registered and being conscripted—and why a draft hasn't been active since 1973.The Consequences: What happens to federal student loans, government jobs, and citizenship applications if you aren't in the system?Privacy Concerns: The debate over "big data" and the government's ability to automatically enroll citizens in military databases. The Political Context: How this move fits into the broader 2026 defense strategy and the "Peace Through Strength" narrative.Key Fact: Registration is a legal requirement that has existed for over 40 years. The only thing that has changed is the method—moving from a manual form to an automated data pull.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/chaos-culture-radio--3078307/support.Follow Chaos Culture Radio for real conversations that move culture forward.New episodes every week.Share this episode with someone who needs to hear it.
67 Million Americans Don't Talk To Their Families Anymore, Canada Can't Write A Sentence, Disney Is Broke, And Uncle Sam Has Your Son's Address — Freedom Family Friday breaks down the stories every family needs to hear before the weekend. A stunning new poll reveals 38 percent of Americans are currently estranged from a family member and the generation doing the cutting has no plans to reconcile. Canada's federal government published an official national action plan with a 17-character acronym in the title -- and they built in an expansion clause. Disney just announced 1,000 more layoffs under a brand new CEO while the stock sits exactly where it was a decade ago. And Trump quietly signed a law in December that will automatically register every eligible young man in America into the military draft database by this December -- no form, no opt-in, no notice. Austin is joined today by Steffi and Justin for a full Freedom Family Friday breakdown.
Philip Teresi gives us his take on today’s daily buzz question. Do you support or oppose automatic registration for the U.S. military draft? Starting in December 2026, eligible U.S. men ages 18 to 25 will be automatically registered for the Selective Service under a change approved by Congress. Officials stress the move does not reinstate the military draft, but shifts responsibility from individuals to the federal government as registration rates decline. Which young men should be sent to fight in Vietnam? Amidst a growing public outcry against the biases in the system, the United States instituted a live televised lottery draft on December 1st, 1969. In a sombre spectacle, plexiglass drums and capsules containing birthdates were drawn live on CBS, dictating the order in which men born on that day might be conscripted. Youth delegates participated to symbolize approval from the draftees' generation, but some refused to cooperate; one storming off live on air, others making peace signs or reading out protests during the broadcast. Arion, Rebecca and Olly explain how this dystopian ‘Hunger Games' lottery came to be; consider the effect Vietnam the draft had on parenting and college statistics back home; and track their own birthdays to discover when they would have been drafted… Further Reading: • ‘Live From Washington, It's Lottery Night 1969!' Trump didn't come back to bomb Iran. He came back to slap tariffs on China and build a domestic economy around mass deportation. That's not hyperbole—it's his vision of American greatness: inward-looking, job-creating, and built on enforcement infrastructure rather than foreign adventurism. He never needed war to stimulate the economy. He needed ICE hiring sprees. He needed biometric tracking. He needed a federal payroll surge to support the logistical nightmare of deporting 20 to 30 million undocumented immigrants. It's brutal, yes—but in Trump's eyes, it's also stimulative. Multi-trillion-dollar spending. Boots on the ground. Judges, pilots, cooks, medics, drones, buses, detention centers. A kind of anti-welfare WPA.But every lever was blocked. Judges intervened. Blue states refused cooperation. Cities nullified enforcement. Activists, NGOs, billionaires who rely on $5/hour lettuce pickers—all resisted. Trump's domestic economic agenda—tariffs and deportations—was systematically jammed. So he escalated.Last week, B-2 bombers dropped bunker-busting bombs on Iranian nuclear sites. Tomahawks rained down on Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. This wasn't strategy—it was inevitability. If you deny a strongman peaceful tools, you don't make him quit. You make him fight on less peaceful terms. And now, we inch toward a wartime draft.Under U.S. law, the Selective Service can be activated during conflict. Normally, it's for 18–25-year-olds. But in wartime? That can expand. And today, unlike Vietnam, you don't need a draft board to guess who's “trouble.” You have Palantir.Palantir knows who protested. Who donated. Who posted. Who agitates. Your dissent has a data profile. You don't need a conviction—you just need a pattern. And suddenly, “sending criminals to the front” becomes “sending enemies of the state to the sand.”This isn't hypothetical. This is logistical feasibility meeting political grievance.Opposition to Trump may have believed they were resisting fascism. But they may have done worse: cornered him into escalation. Like with Putin in Ukraine, everyone knew: if you don't give him an off-ramp, he'll burn everything. Trump is built the same way. Not culturally. Not ideologically. But structurally. He does not de-escalate. He retaliates. He must “win”—or remake the board until it looks like he did.And if his domestic agenda is paralyzed, his only remaining lever is war. And the only tool he can freely use under that banner? The draft. If you think you're safe, you're not. Not if you're tagged, flagged, profiled, surveilled, or archived. Not if your face appears next to “Free Palestine,” or “Never Trump,” or “Antifa,” or “Pride.” Those might not land you in jail—but they could land you in a sandpit, with a rifle, wondering how your hashtag became your unit patch. It didn't have to be this way. Trump wanted tariffs and buses—not bombers and troop carriers. But if you deny him every tool but war, don't be surprised when he reaches for it.

By Ben Light in Salem, OR - June 29, 2024 - Recently, the United States House of Representatives passed HR8070, an omnibus appropriations bill for National Defense. Contained within the bill was a change in how the Selective Service process takes place in the United States. What does that mean for our youth? What do we believe and teach with regards to Military Service and the waging of War? Are there things that younger people should be doing now, to prepare for a possibility of a draft authorization in the future?
The U.S. House has passed a bill to make registration for the Selective Service automatic rather than the voluntary system that has served us for generations. Why now? Does this signal a re-start of the draft for GenZ? The last draft was for Vietnam. Euro wars are much bigger, with fossil-fueled war machines on both sides. Gen Z, their parents, and anyone else who cares about them should keep their eyes on this one. Would the president sign this bill into law? Former Chief Assistant U.S. Attorney and National Review Contributing Editor Andy McCarthy is in for Jim. Join Andy and Greg as they discuss Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley sounding the alarm as both parties seem ready to pass a bill that would subject women to military drafts, the increasingly worrisome alliance between Russia and North Korea, and Press Sec. Karine Jean-Pierre's almighty struggle to explain away President Biden's gaffes.First, they delve into Sen. Hawley excoriating a bipartisan bill that has passed the House of Representatives that would require women to register for Selective Service. They agree with Hawley's criticism of the bill and that our daughters should not be forced into combat. However, Andy unloads on Hawley for suggesting Republicans are backing the idea so they have enough people to fight "endless wars."Next, they explore the implications of the recent pledge between Russia and North Korea to defend one another if either is attacked. Andy thinks that pledges between such unreliable actors are flimsy at best, but that does not negate the potential evils that may come of this agreement. Finally, they roll their eyes at White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre's lackluster excuses for former President Obama having to guide President Biden offstage at a campaign event. Andy observes that events like these can be given the benefit of the doubt if they are one-time occurrences, but Biden's gaffes happen too often to be written off.As a bonus, Andy weighs in on his expectations for upcoming Supreme Court decisions. Please visit our great sponsor:Lumenhttps://lumen.meTake the next step in improving your health. From Georgia to Idaho, several states are undergoing potentially map altering changes as movements grow for counties to secede into other states. Some in Texas want the state itself to completely secede, while Lost Creek voted to be discontent from Austin. St George, Louisiana wants the same thing from Baton Rouge, as does Buckhead, Georgia, from Atlanta. Residents of Weld County, Colorado, want to move to Wyoming, and large parts of Oregon are seeking to become part of Greater Idaho. The growing sentiment is that things are only going to get worse, especially after CNN ran a story about how the idea that the US is a constitutional republic, where the law protects all people, is a conspiracy theory, and that we are actually a democracy, where majority votes rule and can take away individual rights. The House also just passed the NDAA, now automatically registering all 18 year old males for military service. The Senate Armed Services Committee added required registration “of women for Selective Service.” On the more supernatural side of things, from Alex Jones and Natasha Owens, to the Trump campaign, we are hearing about how the former President is literally God's gift to mankind. Although such rhetoric is clearly deranged, Oprah and others said the same thing about Barrack Obama, while some said he was the anti-Christ. Kids were made to sing his praise like some North Korean dictator. Congresswoman Cori Bush also just recently stated that she performed literal miracles - by curing their disease. The careless disregard for both politics and law, and for religious archetypes, is really evidence of a growing apostasy.-FREE ARCHIVE & RSS: https://www.spreaker.com/show/the-secret-teachingsTwitter: https://twitter.com/TST___RadioFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/thesecretteachingsWEBSITE (BOOKS, RESUBSCRIBE for early show access): http://thesecretteachings.infoPaypal: rdgable@yahoo.comCashApp: $rdgableBuy Me a Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/tstradioSUBSCRIBE TO NETWORK: http://aftermath.mediaEMAIL: rdgable@yahoo.com / TSTRadio@protonmail.com

This is the story of an experiment. It's from a show I love called Revisionist History, by bestselling author Malcolm Gladwell. This season he's devoting every episode to experiments. There's the experiment that brought iodized salt to our tables. Another episode looks at a kind of failed social experiment that could have reduced opioid overdoses. Anyway, it's all fascinating — and the episode we want to share with you is no different.Malcolm has discovered a forgotten box of interviews in the archives of the Library of Congress. They tell the story of 36 men who, in 1945, spent a year in a dingy room under the school football stadium. They were part of an experiment none of them would ever forget. And people are still arguing about what happened decades later. This is part of a three-part series, and you can hear the rest, and more, by searching for Revisionist History wherever you get your podcasts.
