Hello #AmWriters! This week, I'm answering a bunch of questions we received via amwritingpodcast@gmail.com and our #AmWriting Facebook group. Here's to flattened learning curves! * I just got my first speaking inquiry. How do I know how much to ask for?* Someone asked me to provide video content for a conference/summit/virtual event. What should I charge?* What's all this about affiliate codes and revenue sharing for conferences?* What reference books would you recommend for writing nonfiction?* It's time to ask for blurbs for my book! How do I figure out who should blurb? How do I ask? Can someone quoted in my book blurb my book? * If I quote myself in my own book is that plagiarism? What if I really need to use that quote, how do I do it?* I've been asked to speak but I'm freaked out by my time slot/some other challenge to audience numbers. How do I get people to stay and listen?* What are the “marketing materials” you keep talking about for events and where did you get all of it?* Scam alert! See also “I Got Scammed So You Don't Have To” by Jen Mann of People I Want to Punch in the Throat. Hey writers. I'm Jennie Nash, founder and CEO of Author Accelerator. It's back to school time, which means it's a great time to start training to become a book coach. By this time next year, you could be certified and out there helping writers bring their books to life- even if you're not a published author yourself. Take our quiz, The 10 Characteristics Of a Great Book Coach, to find out if you have what it takes to become a great book coach. Visit bookcoaches.com/characteristics-quiz that's the clunkiest URL ever so let me say it again: bookcoaches.com/characteristics-quiz We'll also put it in the show notes so you know you're going to the right place.Hey readers—KJ here. This episode of #AmWriting is brought to you by my latest, Playing the Witch Card. I wrote this at a moment when I needed more magic in my life—but it turned out to be a book about how until we know who we are and what makes us happy, even magic doesn't help. My main character, Flair, is a total control freak who fears the chaos created by her family deck of Tarot cards and the cookies it inspires her to make until she decides that she can harness their power to control the world and people around her—but that's not what the cards are for at all. I was inspired by what I see as the real magic of Tarot cards—and tea leaves and palm reading and every form of oracle: they help us to see and understand our own stories. As someone for whom stories are pretty much everything, I love that. You can buy Playing the Witch Card on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Bookshop.org and my local indie—and I hope you'll love it too. I take calls from Rob and Jason, then talk about some people I like to play with. I also ramble more about my in-person game. Good times!

Im privileged to have coached all types of people in business over the years, but the ones who I absolutely love to coach have certain characteristics. People who execute even the smallest details without needing reminders. People that make themselves available. People with discipline. People that show gratitude. These are just some of the traits that make a player stand out as coachable.

Kimberly's guest today is Jen Mann, author of the New York Times bestseller People I Want to Punch in the Throat and editor of the New York Times bestselling I Just Want to Pee Alone series. In an attempt to deal with the resulting range of emotions and physical changes in midlife, Jen posted a completely honest now-viral post, “Anyone Else Falling Apart Or Is It Just Me?” Jen used the thousands of responses she got, along with many of her own experiences to write her new book MIDLIFE BITES. A cross between a humor collection and a self-help guide, women ages 40-60 everywhere can explore subjects that may have been taboo in the past. As Jen likes to say, this is NOT your mother's midlife crisis book, where things get swept under the rug and “nice women” don't talk about those kinds of things.
In an attempt to deal with the resulting range of emotions and physical changes in midlife, Jen Mann posted a completely honest now-viral post, “Anyone Else Falling Apart Or Is It Just Me?” The response was instantaneous and overwhelming. Women from all over the country flooded the comments section, glad to see they weren't the only ones experiencing this feeling of isolation and dissatisfaction. Jen decided to create an online community call “Midlife Bites” and quickly had tens of thousands of followers all exchanging thoughts, ideas, and possible solutions around the theme of midlife and what it has to offer, not just how tough it could be. After establishing a safe online space to exchange ideas, Jen used the thousands of responses she got, along with many of her own experiences to inform the topics in MIDLIFE BITES. Jess and Jess have a WHOLE LOTTA things to say about the general disruption and malaise they are experiencing in their own middle lives, and Jen Mann brings wit, vulnerability and a healthy dose of humor to the conversation around how EVERYTHING changes when you reach the middle of your life- and WHY THE HELL aren't we talking about it? For women of every age, but especially those between the ages of 40-60, Midlife Bites is a must have manual on how to come through this time in life stronger, connected and ready to take on what's next.Available January 4, 2022, Pre-order Midlife Bites athttps://www.amazon.com/Midlife-Bites-Anyone-Falling-Apart/dp/0593158512/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3KD79CVZWVAN1&keywords=midlife+bites+by+jen+mann&qid=1641166048&sprefix=midlife+bit%2Caps%2C58&sr=8-1Meet Jen!Jen Mann is best known for her wildly popular blog, People I Want to Punch in the Throat. This is Part Two in the three part series of the best parenting fails shared on the podcast so far. I realize that "best" is not really the best word to use when you’re talking about parenting fails, because one parenting fail isn’t better than another one, but it is fun to do “best of” countdowns. So, the takeaway I hope you get from listening to this series isn’t that mistakes are no big deal. It’s simply that we all make mistakes, and that there’s no such thing as a perfect parent. Make sure you subscribe to the podcast on iTunes or wherever you listen to podcasts, so you don't miss the Top 10 Parenting Fails next week. As for parenting fails 11 through 20, here are the parents who made the list: 20. Amy McCready, the founder of Positive Parenting Solutions and author of The Me, Me, Me Epidemic, who was interviwed in episode 47 of the podcast. 19. Nick Thune, the actor and stand up comedian who has a Netflix special titled Folk Hero and a Seeso special titled Good Guy, who was interviewed in episode 6 of the podcast. 18.
