In November 2004, Peter Porco, was savagely bludgeoned to death with an axe inside his home, suffering massive head trauma that left the crime scene drenched in blood. His wife, Joan, was also brutally attacked, her skull shattered and her face nearly unrecognizable, yet she miraculously survived. As investigators delved into the case, suspicion quickly fell on the couple's 21-year-old son, Christopher Porco, whose financial troubles, inconsistent alibi, and alleged motive turned a horrifying crime into one of the most controversial trials in New York history. Our other podcast: "FEARFUL" - https://open.spotify.com/show/56ajNkLiPoIat1V2KI9n5c?si=OyM38rdsSSyyzKAFUJpSywMERCH:https://www.redbubble.com/people/wickedandgrim/shop?asc=uPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/wickedandgrim?fan_landing=trueYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@wickedlifeFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/wickedandgrim/ Instagram:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wickedandgrim/?hl=enTwitter: https://twitter.com/wickedandgrimWebsite: https://www.wickedandgrim.com/ Hosted on Acast. This highly unusual crime has a not altogether surprising culprit, though the star witness in his defense makes this story truly memorable.

On November 15th 2004, police discovered the deceased, Peter Porco, lying in a pool of blood at the base of his stairs and his wife, Joan Porco, in their bedroom clinging to life after they were viciously attacked with an ax. When police asked Joan if she knew who did this to her, she shook her head yes, and when they asked her if her son Christopher Porco had done this, she nodded yes again. However when Joan woke up in the hospital weeks later she had no memory of the attack and swore that her son was innocent.

Peter was a judge's law clerk, and Joan, a speech pathologist. Who could have attacked this couple in their home? Why was the house key still in front door lock? In a recent episode of the "Hidden Killers" podcast, host Tony Brueski and guest forensic psychologist Kate Wallinga delve into the ongoing case against Bryan Kohberger, the man accused of the heinous murder of four University of Idaho students in 2022. They discuss the defense's latest allegations of planted DNA evidence and the failure of Kohberger to provide an alibi as demanded by the court.    Wallinga commented, "Clearly they are throwing spaghetti at the wall. Let's make anything, and that's the defense's job. Sure. The defense's job is to make sure that the police followed procedure to the letter."    Commenting on the defense's strategy, Wallinga pointed out the approach seems to question everything, no matter how far-fetched the claim might appear. She equated Kohberger's silence on the alibi to his decision to prolong a game he thinks he can win.    In response to the question on what it means for Kohberger not to produce an alibi, Wallinga unequivocally stated, "He doesn't have one."    She emphasized that for someone willing to stab four people to death, lying about an alibi is insignificant. She stated, "if you're willing to do that, then lying about an alibi is nothing. It's no big."    Drawing parallels with the case of Peter Porco and his wife, Wallinga highlighted the potential for false alibis and pointed out that if Kohberger had an alibi, he would have presented it by now. However, so far, there is no evidence supporting his claim of innocence.    She also pointed out the significant fact that despite Kohberger's repeated claims about looking forward to exoneration, no evidence has been presented that supports his innocence. Wallinga commented, "I'm fascinated by the fact that with all of the press conferences and so on, all of the motions in court, they're not letting him speak." She further speculates that his silence is intentional, suggesting his words might be off-putting and unempathetic, which would not serve his defense well.    Brueski and Wallinga's discussion offers listeners a deep dive into the intricacies of Kohberger's defense strategy, exploring the machinations behind the accusations of planted evidence, and the conspicuous lack of an alibi. It paints a picture of a complex and high-stakes legal battle where the truth continues to be elusive, and the game, as Wallinga suggests, is far from over. Today's case is one of those stories that sounds more like a movie than real life once you hear the details. One morning in November 2004, court clerk Peter Porco stumbled out of bed and went about his morning routine like usual. As he picked up a newspaper and ate his breakfast, he seemed to be completely unaware of the fact that he had been savagely attacked a few hours earlier… and his wife Joan was still in bed, clinging to life. Peter had almost gotten ready to the point of leaving for work. It was not until his co-workers began to worry as Peter did not show up to work that the gruesome scene inside the Porco home was revealed. Peter - now dead… while his wife Joan was found upstairs, barely alive. Both had been hit in the head multiple times with an ax. Before Joan was rushed into the hospital, a detective was able to question her and get the name of the suspect: Christopher Porco, the couple's 21-year-old son. Soon enough, the investigation began to reveal disturbing details of Christopher's life and the insidious web of lies he had weaved to take advantage of his own parents. However, when the only witness to the crime, Joan Porco, woke up from a coma, she changed her story. According to her, Christopher was innocent. But in the end, was the mother's love enough to save the son from conviction? Subscribe and share 10 Minute Murder with your true crime loving friends. FEBRUARY TOPIC: LISTENER'S CHOICE  Check out Buzz Killers every Sunday for new episodes! A proud podcast of the Podmoth Media Network.    In episode fifty eight, we discuss the tragic murder of Peter Porco. Monday, November 15, 2004, a coworker arrived at the Porco home to perform a welfare check when Peter did not arrive at work, and discovered a grisly scene. Peter Porco laid dead in the hallway of his Delmar, NY home, and his wife, Joan, lay mortally wounded in their master bedroom. The weapon? A 3 foot axe that belonged to the family. As the investigation went on, police would find more and more evidence implicating someone they never would've expected. And the reasoning for this horrific act would shock an entire community to its core.    For this episode we drank Drops of Jupiter Sauvignon Blanc, a collaboration between Pat Monahan, lead singer of the Grammy winning band, Train, and winemaker James Foster. Kids Who Kill | The Bever, Porco, and Van Breda families

We hear almost daily about mothers and fathers killing their children, sometimes their entire family.  You would absolutely be familiar with Scott Peterson, Susan Smith and Chris Watts. What you hear less often is when children plot and scheme and murder their families. The term for this is either familicide if many family members are killed, or parricide if only parents are killed. Today on the the True Crime Society Podcast we discuss three cases of ‘Kids Who Kill'. -In 2015 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Robert and Michael Bever who were 18 and 16 at the time, went on a murderous rampage using knives and hatchets. They managed to murder their parents and three of their siblings before they were stopped by police.  The brothers had planned to go on a cross-country killing spree, hoping to kill over 100 people.  Thankfully, two Bever children survived and a lot of the testimony that was given helped to put Robert and Michael behind bars for good. - Christopher Porco was in trouble in 2004.  He had forged his father's signature on financial documents and had obtained fraudulent loans.  His parents were not happy and frequently told him so.  In November that year, Christopher drove from his dorm to the family home, where he attacked his parents with an axe. His father Peter Porco sustained 16 major axe wounds to his face and head including penetration to his brain and part of his jaw ‘ fell' off following the attack.  Despite all this, Peter managed to get out of bed and go about his daily morning routine before dying.  He spent some time in the bathroom and at the sink, he loaded the dishwasher, packed his lunch for the day and wrote a check.  He finally collapsed and died at the front door.  Joan initially told police that Christopher was the attacker but then recanted. - The Van Breda family lived an affluent, high-flying life in South Africa.  Martin and Teresa were very successful and were raising three children Rudi, Henri and Marli. One night, an intruder allegedly broke into their mansion in a secure, gated community, murdering three members of the family with an axe.  Henri survived with minor injuries and Marli spent months in hospital recovering. Except it turns out, there was no intruder.  Henri had an alleged methamphetamine addiction and his allowance had been cut off by his parents, so he killed them. We have detailed blogs for all three cases, including crime scene photos, at TrueCrimeSocietyBlog.com You can listen on Spotify here - https://open.spotify.com/episode/1Jt0K05oS2zHL6TrdBP1sm?si=-Bn926_yQUiGt1IkKoqJfg And Apple here - https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/true-crime-society/id1504300714 Thank you to our sponsor BetterHelp! Kristin starts us off with our most old timey story ever. It was May of 1812 in Manchester, Vermont, and something was up. Russell Colvin was missing. People were pretty sure he’d come back. He had a wife. He had a child. He had obligations. Plus, he was known to wander off from time to time. But then months passed. Then years. People in town became suspicious. What if Russell hadn’t wandered off? What if he’d been murdered? Then Brandi tells us about a November morning in 2004. Peter Porco, an Appellate Division court clerk, had always been reliable. So when he didn’t show up for work one day, a coworker went to Peter’s house to check on him. The coworker peered through the windows to discover a grizzly scene.  And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. (No shade, Wikipedia. We love you.) We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from: “Then Again: A case of who done… what?” by Mark Bushnell for the Vermont Digger “The Boorn Affair,” Cincinnati Daily Star, May 24, 1875 “First wrongful conviction: Jesse Boorn and Stephen Boorn” Bluhm Legal Clinic Center on Wrongful Convictions  In this episode, Brandi pulled from: “Christopher Porco” by Rachael Bell, The Crime Library “Memory of Murder” episode 48 Hours “Christopher Porco 15 Years Later” by Diego Cagara, Spotlight News “Christopher Porco: The Unthinkable” ForensicFilesNow.com (http://forensicfilesnow.com) “Christopher Porco 2: The Explainable” ForensicFilesNow.com (http://forensicfilesnow.com) “Murder of Peter Porco”http://wikipedia.org
