Welcome back to the Daily Living for Christ podcast. I'm excited to begin a special four-part series recently planted in my spirit—a divine invitation to explore the power of spiritual intention and what I believe God is revealing to believers in this season. On Friday, March 21, 2025, the word “intention” dropped into my heart with weight and clarity. In a conversation today, the phrase “multiplication through subtraction” emerged, another Spirit-led insight I now see deeply connected to intention. Over the next four episodes, we'll unpack how intentional living, divine subtraction, and the presence of God are not just abstract ideas—but powerful spiritual principles rooted in Scripture and essential for transformation, growth, and kingdom multiplication. Here's what's ahead:The Power of IntentionDiscerning When Intention is Directed Toward GodMultiplication Through Subtraction – The Paradox of Divine IncreaseLinking Sacred Intention to Prayer and Practicing God's PresenceThe Four Aspects of ConsentWhether you're a Christian seeking deeper purpose or discerning where God is leading you next, these episodes will stir your spirit, challenge your assumptions, and realign your heart with God's greater purpose.I pray this series speaks directly to the hearts of those God is calling to shift their intentions toward Him. Download each episode, and be sure to subscribe so you don't miss a moment of this transformational journey. Here are links to the books I mentioned in this episode: Letters By A Modern Mystic by Frank C LaubachPractice The Presence of God: A Modern Translation by Peter Northcutt"Have Questions, Send us a Message" This podcast is a production of The Center for Biblical Coaching and Leadership. Free lance writer, editor, mother of two, Jenny Abel talks today on the preciousness of recalibrating your life, all for heaven's sake. Co-author with Kenneth Boa of the book, Recalibrate Your Life: Navigating Transitions with Purpose and Hope, Abel defines recalibration as consciously processing where we've been, where we are now, and looking ahead to where God may want to lead us. "This isn't something we only do at the end of our lives," Jenny says, "rather we do it on a regular basis to help us gain perspective: Are we numbering our days to gain a heart of wisdom?" Leave a comment below or on social media to be entered to win a copy of Recalibrate Your Life. Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12 Some gems: At the heart of recalibration is a pilgrim mindset. Before we can recalibrate, we need to calibrate: do we belong to God? Are our minds set on Christ? My relationship with God would not be what it is without my time in the dark valley of infertility. Knowing you are really going to die someday changes everything. Our career changes; the calling on our lives is never ending. Suffering prompts recalibration. My desire is to inspire others to know and hope in God and call them to gaze on God's beauty. Our pride, our day-to-day inertia, digging in our heels—all of these things keep us from numbering our days. Jenny Abel is an editor and writer for Ken Boa, coauthor of Recalibrate Your Life. Having sat under Boa's teaching since she was a teenager, she began working for him and his Reflections Ministries in 2013. She served as editor of the monthly Reflections teaching letter from 2017 to 2023. She cowrote Shaped by Suffering and A Guide to Practicing God's Presence with Dr. Boa and edited his book Life in the Presence of God. A freelance writer and editor, she founded Jenny M. Abel Editorial Services (www.abeleditorial.com) in 2011. She holds a BS in mathematics with a concentration in Latin American studies from Furman University, is a graduate of the Focus on the Family Leadership Institute, and resides in Charlottesville, Virginia, with her husband, Ben, and their two young children. Yay! I'm not sure I'd decrease the butter, but that's just me. Thanks, Jenny! Grand Canyon Coffee Cake Part 1: ¾ c. canola or vegetable oil 2½ c. flour* ¾ c. sugar 1 c. brown sugar (light or dark) 1 tsp. nutmeg 1 tsp. salt Part 2: 2 tsp. cinnamon 2 eggs, beaten 1 c. buttermilk 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 1 stick butter Directions: Preheat oven to 350° F. Combine Part 1 ingredients and mix thoroughly (in an electric mixer). Take ¾ c. of this mixture and set it aside. Part 2: To the set-aside mixture, add 2 tsp. cinnamon. This will serve as the topping. To the rest of the Part 1 mixture, add eggs, buttermilk, powder, and soda. Pour into the bottom of a greased 9” x 13” pan. Sprinkle the topping crumbles on top, distributing evenly. Bake 25–30 min. or until toothpick comes out clean. Melt the 1 stick butter and drizzle on top of the hot cake. Serve warm for breakfast or anytime! *Note: I often use whole wheat flour for all or part of this case to make it healthier. I also decrease the amount of butter drizzled on top to about ½ to 2/3 of a stick.
Practicing God's presence is establishing time for Him and with Him. In the here and now because in the there and then, there will inevitably come something we allow to interfere and not give the sovereign Lord God the time of day with Him. Sound harsh, well the truth is sometimes like that. Do not put off time with God, practice His presence in earnest and remember, that in making time for Him, He will take time for you. Psalm 89:15&16, I John 3:19&20, Jude 24-25, Psalm 41:12.
Practicing the presence of God is living in the awareness and acknowledgment of his presence. Even in the most routine activity practicing God's presence give us a reason to be excited.
In Matthew 14:22-33, we see Peter interacting with Jesus in a storm. Join us this week as Rev. Elizabeth Bumpas teaches on the practice of God's presence.

Five years ago today I had a thought that forever changed my life: if God was so tangibly with me yesterday, I wonder if he could be tangibly with me today in this place. This thought unlocked the ability to practice God's presence not as a passive recipient having an experience, but as an active participant practicing a discipline just because I want to. It has worked! My life is forever different. Today I want to activate you in the same thing. Join me!
This week on Venture Conversations we've got Morgan, Ashley and Kaeli from our YA team reflecting on how to practice the presence of God in our daily lives.

“Remembering God's story requires deliberate action. Through continuous remembrance, we grow diligent and not complacent.” - @centuryeggtart Ps. Janice concluded our Biblical Literacy series with a sermon on Practicing God's Story Together. She reminds us that even as we want God's story to shape us, we need to continuously remember it through deliberate action of living it out, not only in our individual lives but as a community. We pray that you were encouraged by the word and challenged by the timely reminder of our calling as God's people - to be an embodiment of God's story to our world and channels of His grace that would invite others to be a part of this same story.
Episode 165 of The Next Level, discussion on faith between GEBC staff/congregants Grant Armstrong, Beth Maas and Kelly Brady; moderated by Matt Marron. In response to Grant’s sermon on July 19, 2020.
A sermon about the importance of putting God's promises into practice.
Suffering comes to us all. It may be disease or debilitation, pain or persecution. Our difficulties may be invisible to others or impossible to hide. Sometimes we suffer because of our Christian witness. Other times it's simply part of living in a fallen world. But suffering affects us all, in ways we don't always anticipate. Christians today are often not prepared to suffer well and have a shortsighted view of pain and trials. Ken Boa shows how God uses suffering to shape his children for eternity and to grow them in Christlike character. The book of 1 Peter tells us suffering is both a guarantee and comparatively brief; we shouldn't be surprised when it comes to us. The nature of our affliction is not as important as our response to it. God is at work through our hardships and wants to use them to prepare us for eternal life. Suffering can make us bitter or better. Rediscover living hope, present joy, and a glorious future. Kenneth Boa is an author, a speaker, and the president of Reflections Ministries, Omnibus Media Ministries, and Trinity House Publishers. He is the author of over fifty books, including Conformed to His Image, Faith Has Its Reasons, Rewriting Your Broken Story, and Life in the Presence of God. He is a contributing editor to the Open Bible, the Promise Keepers Men's Study Bible, and the Leadership Bible, and is the consulting editor of the Zondervan NASB Study Bible. Boa earned a BS from Case Institute of Technology, a ThM from Dallas Theological Seminary, a PhD from New York University, and a DPhil from the University of Oxford. He teaches a weekly Bible and faith study at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia, where he resides with his wife. Jenny Abel is an editor and a writer for Reflections Ministries and Omnibus Media Ministries. David concludes Psalm 23 by proclaiming, “and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” It's a stunning ending to a stunning Psalm. But what's David's context? What's he declaring? Is he talking about Heaven? Is he talking about the Tabernacle (often referred to as “the house of the LORD”). Is “forever” the best translation? As we seek to answer these questions, I believe we'll be invited into one of the most significant practices that enables us to grow in our awareness of God, and approach life with a perspective and maturity that we all long to possess.
