Book airfare through credit card portal or direct? Frequent Miler reader Mike wrote in with this question:American Express Platinum cards give you 5x points for direct bookings to airline flights. However, most airlines give you 3x to 5x for using their own co-branded cards for those same flights. Direct bookings give you more options if things go sideways (e.g., flight cancelations that require a rebooking). Or would prefer 8x Chase Sapphire Ultimate Rewards multiplier? If you use Amex or Chase, you have to deal with an online travel agency to re-book replacement flights. Do you prefer Amex Platinum, Chase Sapphire Reserve, over direct bookings versus that airline's own co-branded card, and why? We've been answering a reader or listener question at the end of each Frequent Miler on the Air podcast episode. Paint Credits, Matterport Tours & Why the San Jose Housing Market Is Slowing DownVito discusses whether buyers should ask sellers for credits for paint or carpet, noting that after 90+ days on market buyers can request almost anything but it's a negotiation and sellers can say yes, no, or meet in the middle; he suggests giving a small credit to close a deal when a home is mispriced or sitting, but not when a buyer simply dislikes a new paint color. He highlights the value of Matterport 3D tours and floor plans for buyers and sellers and criticizes overly stylized listing photos without useful layout info. 00:00 Mindset Kickoff00:13 Stretchy Guy Bit01:42 When To Concede02:45 Matterport Walkthrough Value03:51 Dollhouse And Floor Plans04:35 Listing Review Camino Verde06:11 Distressed House Spotlight07:40 Market Update Mid June08:32 Why The Market Slows09:19 Wrap Up And Goodbye Would you ask a seller to give you a credit for a paint job? Should I split a points transfer into smaller buckets? Frequent Miler reader Keith wrote in with this question:I tried to transfer 560K points to Air France to snag a redemption. had previously transferred about 280k points from Amex to KLM, I thought for sure the points would have similarly come through with Chase. Sadly, the points took 4 days to transfer, and I missed my booking window. Looking back, should I have spread my point transfers across different currencies to lower the transfer risk? I could have also covered the transfer using Capital One or Amex points. How do you balance speed with lowering the risk that your points will miss their intended purpose? We've been answering a reader or listener question at the end of each Frequent Miler on the Air podcast episode. Our next letter comes from Lori H. in Canada: Despite years of meditation and inner work, Lori feels shaken by the suffering and injustice she sees in the world. She asks how to stay rooted in love, hope, and spiritual clarity without becoming consumed by anger, helplessness, or despair. Next, Michael leads a guided meditation. ✨ What's your Life Question? Can I save points on a Hyatt award with a date change trick? Frequent Miler reader Matt wrote:I recently succeeded in changing a Hyatt award stay to avoid cancelling and forfeiting the Hyatt points. I'm wondering if that could be a strategy to leap past the upcoming changes to the World of Hyatt program. For example, I would create a reservation using points at a Hyatt property now and change the date later for a stay that is currently not bookable because it is more than 13 months away. Has anyone successfully used this strategy in previous years when category changes were announced, avoiding the need to make up point differences due to the associated program changes at that time? I understand that this is highly prospective and perhaps wishful thinking, but it could mean a sizeable savings in Hyatt points! We've been answering a reader or listener question at the end of each Frequent Miler on the Air podcast episode.
