This week's episode is a little different—and a lot of fun. Jess, Pam, and Alex are joined by Traci for a special game of Would You Rather!? – Points Talk Edition. Traci challenges the squad with a lineup of delightfully diabolical travel questions designed to reveal where they really stand when it comes to their points and airline preferences, personal travel quirks, and loyalty trade-offs. From Business Class Woes to Economy Wins The episode kicks off with a tough one: would you rather have a lie-flat seat in business class next to an annoying stranger, or an entire economy row to yourself? At least one of the squad's answers will probably surprise you! Individual Perks vs. Points Value: Globalist or the Award Chart? Next, Traci challenges the group with Hyatt's ultimate tradeoff: would you rather have lifetime Globalist status or a guaranteed fixed award chart for 20 years? Is there dissent or do Alex, Jess, and Pam all come down on the same side on this one? Real-Life Dilemmas and Points Preferences From there, the questions get personal: Learn about Alex's secret grocery-store card confession. Would Jess rather stay at a Park Hyatt in a city she doesn't like (Venice) or a Holiday Inn Express in a city she loves (Tokyo)? Would Alex rather have her beloved Southwest® Companion Pass or 600,000 Hyatt points? Would Pam choose only domestic luxury travel or international budget travel if she could only choose one? Tough Transfers & Redemption Realities The squad also weighs in on (and disagrees about) transferring highly valued points with or without bonuses. Nice Problems to Have They also daydream about future loyalty-program changes they'd love to see, like new Citi cards, United partnering with a second bank, and Capital One adding Alaska as a partner. (A girl can dream!) The Great Collectibles Debate: Ducks or Houses? The episode ends on a light note, with the squad picking which flight souvenirs they'd rather have (rubber ducks or Delft houses) and which ones they'd be more likely to try to get permission to pinch. This episode is full of laughs, strong opinions, and lots of travel daydreaming. Hit play now and see which “would you rather” choices you agree with—and which ones you totally wouldn't!

On the afternoon of Thursday, September 17, 2009, I interviewed Nick Cave in (what I recall was) the Park Hyatt's restaurant located in the Yorkville area of Toronto, Ontario. The occasion was to discuss his then new novel, The Death of Bunny Munro, and we also covered his work with Warren Ellis and the filmmaker John Hillcoat to score the film, The Road, why his new novel's depiction of sexuality was revealing for both men and women, the marvels of emerging app technology and Apple's fledgling iPhone, compartmentalizing his songwriting and literary work and heading to an office every day to get those things done, and other subjects as well. This interview was originally broadcast on the Mich Vish Interracial Morning Show! on November 11, 2009. See Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds on their Wild God Tour. Happy new year! FYI we had a few tech issues that meant some chunks of audio didn't record properly this week, so apologies for the chats that might stop or start suddenly, and also the wacky audio levels. Ghost in the machine!!This week, Kate and Brodie talk about doing karaoke, should we watch I'm Not There again?, last we saw each other Brodie was going to a hen's do and Kate went to a kick-on at a house owned by someone whose dog is Top Chef's instagram friend (sure!) and to a bar called Disco Pantera, Brodie got a DM NDA for a hot Melbourne cocktail, the dog who works at the Park Hyatt is retiring this month, does Melbourne need more breakfast spots (not cafes!).We watched a lot of stuff over the break! Kate watched The Lady Vanishes, Brodie's going to the movies again to see A Different Man and Lee, Brodie saw An Unmarried Woman and tries to do the Nosferatu voice (sorry), she's confused the Lighthouse and Swiss Army Man (and also confused that movie's farting corpse with one about a propellor penis WHOOPS sorry don't @ her). They both watched Heretic (Kate's nephew's introduction to Hugh Grant was the Oompa Loompa in Wonka), The Room Next Door, Anora, All We Imagine as Light and Better Man – shockingly we have very different responses to Monkey Robbie Williams. Kate also watched The Lost Daughter finally – the audio of that bit cut out SORRY!! Brodie saw Wicked for a third time (hehe) and Kate's been visiting Somebody Somewhere and loved Bad Sisters season 2 – BL less so. In this episode, Pam takes us on a journey through Italy, sharing how she and her sister made the most of credit card points to explore some of the country's most iconic spots. From the excitement of snagging business class seats on Turkish Airlines to their adventures in Rome, Lake Como, and Cinque Terre, this episode is packed with tips, laughs, and a few surprises. Flying in Style with Turkish Airlines Pam kicks things off by describing how she and her sister flew business class round-trip for just 90,000 miles each! Although they traveled on Turkish Airlines' older plane configuration, Pam found the seats spacious and comfortable. With quality food, incredible service, and even tea lights during dinner, Turkish Airlines left a lasting impression. Exploring Chicago's Park Hyatt Before heading overseas, Pam and her sister spent a day in Chicago, staying at the luxurious Park Hyatt. With a stunning view of the city, a Viator tour, and some quality time on the Navy Pier, their Chicago stay set the tone for a relaxing trip. Lake Como's Grand Hotel Victoria Lake Como is Pam's favorite Italian destination, and staying at the Grand Hotel Victoria felt like a dream come true. Despite a minor hiccup with their limo service, she describes the hotel's new beach club and the serene beauty of Lake Como's small towns. A day trip to Varenna made this part of the trip unforgettable. Wandering Through Cinque Terre Pam and her sister finally made it to Cinque Terre, a place they'd planned to visit on a past trip. Staying at Hotel Pasquale in Monterosso, they explored the charming coastal villages by train, enjoyed the local gelato, and took in the stunning coastal views. Pam notes that, while crowded during the day, Cinque Terre transforms into a peaceful, magical place once the cruise crowds leave. Wrapping Up in Milan The sisters ended their Italian adventure with a stay at the Sheraton Malpensa before flying back. Pam shares a final tip for using points on international trips, especially when navigating multiple cities and modes of transportation. For Pam, Italy is a place she'll never tire of, and her love for the country and its culture shines through in every story. Episode 44: Show Notes. Lufthansa's First Class is revered as one of the more aspirational airline products to flight; Lufthansa's First Class Terminal (FCT) is among the top 3 airline lounge experiences, and Trevor and Thomas both agree. Miles and Points expert and writer JT Genter joins us to share about himself, and to discuss his first Lufthansa First Class experience. JT and his wife, Katie, are digital nomads, and our conversation begins with a brief look at their recent jam-packed travel schedule. After JT details his approach to living as a digital nomad, he offers some advice, recommendations, and strategies for life on the road. JT's retelling of his LH F experience begins with how he met Trevor at the airport in Frankfurt, Germany, before moving on to his arrival and overall impressions of the Lufthansa FCT. He then describes how he felt about the food, drinks, and service aboard Lufthansa's Retro livery, and why he can't wait for his next LH F experience. Somewhere in between, we discuss the degradation of travel apps like ExpertFlyer and why this loss of value is a common industry trend, and to end, JT describes his roles and responsibilities as a travel blogger and as the Editor-In-Chief at AwardWallet, and how he would fix common industry pain points to give miles and points a better future. Key Points From This Episode: [01:20] JT Genter details his professional history and how he entered travel. [04:03] A quick look at his recent (and extensive!) travel log. [05:26] JT's approach to living as a digital nomad. [10:03] His experience of traveling to Calala Island, and where Hyatt and Hilton fit in. In a shocking turn of events, Sean "Diddy" Combs has been indicted on multiple serious charges, including sex trafficking by force, transportation to engage in prostitution, and racketeering conspiracy. The unsealed indictment accuses the music mogul of running an "enterprise that he engaged in sex trafficking, forced labor or kidnapping, arson, and other crimes." The allegations have been under investigation for nearly a year and mirror at least eleven civil complaints filed against Combs since 2023. According to federal prosecutors, Combs "abused, threatened, and coerced women and others around him to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct" from 2008 to the present. The indictment details how he allegedly manipulated women into participating in orchestrated sexual activities with male commercial sex workers, using a variety of coercive tactics. "Sometimes unbeknownst to the victims, Combs kept videos he filmed of victims engaging in sex acts with commercial sex workers," federal prosecutors revealed. The indictment further outlines a disturbing web of control, citing "physical violence" and the promise of career advancement as means Combs used to exert power over his victims. He allegedly controlled their careers, dictated their appearances, monitored their medical records, and supplied them with controlled substances. Damian Williams, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, emphasized the violent nature of Combs' alleged actions, stating, "When Combs didn't get his way, he was violent." Notably, the indictment references a 2016 hotel surveillance video showing Combs allegedly physically assaulting his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. Following this incident, Combs reportedly attempted to bribe a hotel security worker with a "stack of cash" to keep it quiet. In a search of Combs' Miami home, federal agents uncovered three AR-15 rifles and a drum magazine, raising further concerns about his conduct. Williams stated that Combs had carried firearms to intimidate or threaten witnesses. Combs was arrested at the Park Hyatt hotel in Midtown Manhattan and spent the night in federal custody. His attorney, Marc Agnifilo, confirmed that they were prepared for the charges, stating, "We brought him to New York two weeks ago because we knew this day would come." Agnifilo maintained that Combs is dealing with the situation head-on and expressed confidence in his client's innocence. "We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney's Office," Agnifilo asserted. He portrayed Combs as a "music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man, and proven philanthropist," urging the public to reserve judgment until all facts are known. "To his credit, Mr. Combs has been nothing but cooperative with this investigation." Federal prosecutors are seeking to detain Combs while he awaits trial, arguing that he poses a "dangerous" threat to the community and risks obstructing justice. They allege he has attempted to bribe security staff and has interfered with witnesses, claiming, "There are simply no conditions that would ensure that the defendant's efforts to obstruct and tamper with witnesses will stop." Williams underscored that no one is above the law, stating, "A year ago, Sean Combs stood in Times Square and was handed a key to New York City. Today, he's been indicted and will face justice in the Southern District of New York." The investigation remains ongoing, and Williams has encouraged anyone with information to come forward. Combs has denied all allegations against him, including those raised in the civil lawsuits. His legal challenges began in March, when federal agents executed raids on his homes in Los Angeles and Miami, seizing electronic devices as part of the ongoing investigation into his alleged criminal conduct. Combs has denied all allegations against him, including those raised in the civil lawsuits. His legal challenges began in March, when federal agents executed raids on his homes in Los Angeles and Miami, seizing electronic devices as part of the ongoing investigation into his alleged criminal conduct. In this podcast, luxury hotel expert Renae Leith-Manos sits down with Brett Sweetman, the Australian General Manager of the Park Hyatt Auckland, to delve into his journey in the hospitality industry and the current state of the luxury hotel scene. Sweetman's connection to hospitality runs deep, having been introduced to the vibrant world of hotels as a child through his father, who managed several hotels in Australia. Now, Sweetman continues the family tradition, leading the prestigious Park Hyatt Auckland, a five-star luxury hotel perfectly positioned on Auckland's stunning waterfront, offering breathtaking views of the Waitematā Harbour. With 16 years of experience at Hyatt, spanning roles in Melbourne, Dubai, and now Auckland, Sweetman has grown with the brand. He began his career in finance, later transitioning to operations, where he found ample opportunities to make a meaningful impact. Here he talks about the growth in luxury offerings in both luxury hotels and restaurants in Auckland as well as in broader New Zealand. The Park Hyatt Auckland is more than just a luxury hotel; it's a gateway to showcasing the essence of Auckland and New Zealand to the world. Sweetman is passionate about highlighting the rich culture and unique offerings of the region through local artwork, a distinguished food and beverage program, and the warm, authentic hospitality that the hotel's whānau (family) extends to every guest. In discussing the guest experience, Sweetman emphasises the importance of authenticity, personalised recognition, and empathy. These values have remained central to the Park Hyatt Auckland's ethos, especially in a rapidly evolving hospitality landscape. The hotel has adapted to modern needs with innovations like keyless room entry, chrome-casting facilities, and high-speed Wi-Fi, ensuring a seamless experience for today's tech-savvy travelers. Reflecting on the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, Sweetman shares how the hotel had to pivot its strategy, focusing on the domestic market while international borders were closed. He is optimistic and eager to once again showcase the "City of Sails" to a global audience. Looking forward, Sweetman and his team at Park Hyatt Auckland are determined to reinvigorate the city's status as a premier destination, collaborating with tourism bodies to ensure New Zealand remains a top choice for travelers worldwide. I've long been intrigued by the luxury hotel timeshare market, where you get the quality and amenities of a five star hotel combined with the square footage of a residential vacation home. A prime example of this type of property is Four Seasons Aviara in Carlsbad, CA. Back in the day, Four Seasons managed both a hotel here along with a collection of 1 and 2 bedroom vacation homes. The hotel is now managed by Hyatt (as a Park Hyatt) but Four Seasons still maintains the Residence Club. The golf, tennis, pools, and restaurants make for a fabulous "no compromises" vacation in my book. The only problem I've had is finding another Aviara. Turns out there's a level of quality above luxury hotel timeshares, called Luxury Fractionals or Private Residence Clubs. With these you get somewhere around a 1/10th ownership of a fully managed vacation home, usually in a resort setting with access to amenities like a golf course, beach, or skiing. The problem here is cost and commitment as these fractionals typically sell for around $200,000 down and $25,000 per year in maintenance fees. But there are levels to these things. Properties at the top of the Luxury Hotel Timeshare market can get so nice that they're on par with Luxury Fractionals, so much so that owners are willing to trade time between them. The trick is finding owners at "different but like-quality" properties, across brands we may or may not be familiar with, interested in swapping time. Enter Elite Alliance. In Ep 236 of our podcast (subscription required) I detailed how we stayed at the Harbor Court Residence Club at the Rosewood Bermuda, booked through Elite Alliance. The stay was fantastic from beginning to end but I was just as intrigued by Elite Alliance's part in this because if I understand how they operate it has the potential to unlock this type of vacation experience at locations all over the world. This episode is a discussion with Elite Alliance President and Partner Rob Goodyear. We discuss what Elite Alliance is and how they got started, how they vette properties in their portfolio to ensure a consistent quality of experience, what it takes to participate in Elite Exchange, and more. I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did. Thanks to Rob for coming on the show!

Musiques : Radio par Lily Wood and The Prick, Maudit par Malick Djoudi.

DON'T TURN YOUR BACK ON FRIDAY NIGHT, 103min., USA Directed by Mike Schmiedeler, Michael O'Brien From EP Tom Morello – Meet former gravedigger turned doorman at the Park Hyatt in Chicago turned frontman to his own band, Ike Reilly. At 40 years old he landed a recording contract with Universal and in true rock & roll fashion he bought his family a dream home in his hometown of Libertyville, IL. Ike took his band out on the road where they became what The New York Times called “one of the best live bands in America.” https://www.dontturnyourbackonfridaynight.com/the-film https://www.instagram.com/mikeschmiedeler/ https://www.facebook.com/mike.schmiedeler/ Get to know the filmmakers: Michael O'Brien: I introduced Mike to Ike and his music about 12 years ago…I showed him a demo/sizzle Ike and I had made for AMC that sadly was given a pass. Mike became a huge fan of Ike's music and eventually a good friend. It took a few years of persistent cajoling but Ike finally agreed with Mike's premise that his is a story that demanded to be told. Mike Schmiedeler: What he said I came as a fan. I knew how his music touched me and I also knew his story was so unique that it had to be told. He got his first record contract at age 40 while he was working as a doorman at a hotel. And he had been a gravedigger. Literally. But then he also married his high school sweetheart and had these 4 amazing kids. But then wrote some of the most insightful, provocative lyrics on life, death, money, lust, loss and hope that I'd ever hear. It's like he exists in worlds he should not simultaneously. With Sleep Medicine Specialist Dr. David Gessert What's your idea of the perfect vacation getaway? Imagine if money were no object and you could go anywhere, would you choose to sightsee in an exotic, glamorous location? Or, is your idea of the perfect getaway a sunny beach somewhere? Although our concept of the ideal vacation may vary, rarely do we book a trip with the idea of getting away from home simply for a good night's sleep. Instead, we return home filled with wonderful memories but feeling like we may need a vacation after our amazing trip just to recover! Well, that might be about to change. One of the hottest wellness trends for 2023 is booking a vacation with the primary goal of getting a proper night's rest. According to a recent article in “Pure Wow,” several well-known luxury hotels are now offering wellness travel packages that prioritize the perfect night's sleep. These days, new hotels are being designed specifically to promote sleep, health, and well-being with features such as sound-deadening materials in the doors, walls, and floors to ensure a quiet night's rest along with air purifiers and soft lighting. Taking it one step further, the Hotel Cadogan in London features a Sleep Concierge service where you can book a session with leading hypnotherapist and sleep expert, Malminder Gill. The service also includes sleep-inducing meditation recordings by Gill along with a “Pillow menu” that allows you to select your choice of pillow firmness, weighted blankets, a bedtime tea, and a scented pillow mist, all designed to support the best possible sleep. But you don't have to travel to London to get the perfect night's sleep. Right here in the U.S., numerous hotels are also offering sleep packages. For example, the Westin Hotel chain is famous for the sleep amenities they provide, including Lavender Balms, White Tea body lotions, and scented candles along with their luxurious Heavenly Bedding. The Park Hyatt in New York provides sleep masks along with their Sleep Suites which feature the Bryte Restorative Bed that dynamically adjusts to the guest's sleep stages throughout the night to relieve pressure points and control the climate and temperature of the bed. Finally, the new Fairmont Century Plaza offers a combination of infrared technology, compression therapy, and healing sound waves on a specially designed anti-gravity bed. Additional amenities include CBD bath bombs, oversized soaking tubs, and black-out curtains. If a “sleep destination” trip isn't an option right now, there are still simple things you can do to get a better night's sleep. For example, establish a nightly routine by going to bed at the same time every night and rising at the same time every morning. Exercise early in the morning rather than late at night so you don't get overstimulated and find it hard to fall asleep. Spending just fifteen minutes outside in the sunlight, even during the winter, could help reduce insomnia. Finally, don't bring your phones, iPads, and laptops into your bedroom because the blue screen light can trick your brain into thinking it's still daytime. But if these helpful suggestions don't result in a better night's sleep, you may wish to consult a doctor. And in the meantime, check out my 2021 interview with Sleep Medicine Physician, Dr. David Gessert from Henry Ford Health. What You'll Hear in This Episode: How did David get involved in sleep medicine? Can we break up our sleep instead of getting it all at once? What is sleep deprivation? What is “microsleep” and why is it dangerous? How much sleep should adults aim to get every night? Why is sleep deprivation linked to triggering anxiety and depression? What role does a good night's sleep play in balancing our hormones? How much sleep do children and teenagers need? What are the five categories of sleep disorders? What is sleep apnea and why do people snore? How can some people function on very little sleep? Is it possible to catch up on lost sleep? What is included in healthy sleep hygiene? Does lack of sleep cause weight gain? Is there such a thing as getting too much sleep? How does the loss of sleep affect your immune system and mental health? What about sleeping pills like Ambien? How can you combat chronic sleep deprivation? What is involved in sleep apnea testing and treatments? How can you contact Dr. David Gessert to schedule an appointment? Today's Takeaway: A chronic lack of sleep is not only exhausting and leaves us feeling tired and irritable, but it also can be extremely damaging to our health. It's not just our physical health that can be affected. A chronic lack of sleep can also trigger bouts of extreme anxiety and depression. But the good news is that there are ways to make up for lost sleep. Practicing good sleep hygiene can be the first step toward getting a better night's sleep. Making positive changes to your nightly regimen by creating a healthy bedtime routine might help you sleep better at night. Identify the factors that are preventing you from getting your best night's sleep. Eliminating caffeine and power drinks after mid-day, reducing your alcohol consumption, practicing meditation or deep breathing, and avoiding heavy meals before bedtime are all ways in which we can improve our chances for a good night's sleep. By providing our body with the adequate rest it needs, we not only give ourselves the chance to perform at our best the following day, but we're able to be there for our loved ones as well. Remember that every day is a gift and the gift of a good night's sleep is a gift we need to give ourselves. I'm Florine Mark and that's “Today's Takeaway.” Quotes: “A lot of the really good quality sleep comes at the end of a long stretch of sleep.” — David “Anybody's going to be irritable if you don't get enough sleep. And so that can make it tougher for the kids to behave during school.” — David “You know, the heavier you are, the more likely you are to snore, and the more likely you are to develop sleep apnea.” — David “If you're under six hours, you're not getting enough sleep.” — David “For people who continuously don't get enough sleep, their performance continues to decline.” — David “It's not really possible to catch up on sleep. You have to maintain getting adequate sleep each night.” — David “Simple fixes can have a very large difference in your sleep quality.” — David Brought to You By: Florine Mark Mentioned in This Episode: David Gessert, MD Make an appointment with Dr. Gessert or call 313-916-4417
