One of the principal rules governing relationships of all kinds is that the core transaction at the heart of that particular relationship should never be explicitly discussed. And though this rule gives rise to a good deal of indirectness, foolishness, and deceit, it's probably not going anywhere anytime soon, as it protects the dignity of the individuals involved. In today's episode, I discuss how this rule plays out in professional relationships before moving on to sexual relationships. Ali became enamored by the idea of performing since he was a kid as a way to study the human condition. He looks back on his multicultural upbringing that blends American and Moroccan influences, and his journey into acting and performing, revealing his passion for storytelling. Despite growing up surrounded by artists, he opens up feeling alone at one point when his dad wasn't fully on board with his dream of pursuing an acting career yet. Playing the lead role in the production of “The Who's Tommy”, Ali shares his involvement in the show, highlighting his deep dive into the music and ethos of The Who for his role. He also talks about the cathartic nature of performing and the immersive experience of being on stage, as well as its unique format, which eliminates applause during the show to maintain uninterrupted storytelling and for the audience to fully immerse themselves into the story. Ali Louis Bourzgui is one of the industry's newest rising stars who truly embraces what makes him unique. He recently just finished the first national tour of “Company 1st”. He was previously in the national tour of “The Band's Visit” and originated the role of young amazing Yosef in The Goodman's World Premiere play, “Layalina”. Apart from that, he's also an accomplished voiceover artist. You can hear him in the popular podcast, “Quiet Part Loud”, produced by Jordan Peele. He is also a jazz artist, a guitar player, and a songwriter, and you can soon catch him making his Broadway debut in the lead role of Tommy in the upcoming production of “The Who's Tommy”. Friends Stella, Auggie, and Chuck decide to take revenge on some local bullies, led by Tommy, who's dating Chuck's sister Ruth. After removing his feces from the toilet to hand to Tommy, and throwing the requisite eggs at his car, the bullies track the friends to a drive-in movie theater showing Night of the Living Dead. That's when Stella, Auggie, and Chuck hop in the car of Ramon, a mysterious drifter who has come to their town to escape the draft. Afterwards, the four make their way to a dilapidated home on the edge of town that once belonged to the wealthy Bellows family, who mysteriously disappeared shortly after the town's titular mill shut down. “The difference between comedy and horror is the music.” “Nope” director Jordan Peele chats with Trevor about how the comedy part of his career is still active in his horror projects, why he thinks it's important to feel fear, and why the unseen is the scariest part about his new Spotify Original audio horror series, “Quiet Part Loud.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We are dubbing this week Jason & Ernie's 'Fireside Chat', an unscripted off the cuff discussion. It's a much more raw and behind the curtain discussion so grab yourself a sofa pillow and some snacks. We discuss Jordan Peele's murder mystery podcast “Quiet Part Loud” who's voice cast includes Tracy Letts (The Sinner) as Rick Egan, Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) as the mysterious woman, and Taran Killam (Saturday Night Live) as The Blank. Arian Moayed (Succession). Plus we discuss movie culture and our views of exploring cultures through food and movies. We discuss Avatar: The Way of Water and if people are losing their desire for escapist movies. Plus Studio Ghibl has a project collaboration with Star Wars and baby Grogu, could this mean a bigger movie is coming? Then we discuss rumors that Jason Momoa and James Gunn are wanting to bring Lobo from the Superman rogue gallery to the big screen and Jason Momoa might be playing him. What are our thoughts on this and how it affects Aquaman and the DCEU moving forward? Thank you all for joining us, what do you think of this fireside chat? Should we do more? Let us know your thoughts on Twitter. Do you have questions, topics, or movie recommendations for us?? Disgraced radio host Rick Egan has finally found his chance at reinventing himself: by chronicling the cold-case disappearance of several Muslim teens from Staten Island—a group he himself disparaged—in the wake of 9/11. But Rick soon discovers this is no ordinary hate crime, as his ill-considered investigations bring him face-to-face with an ancient American evil that's ready to offer him a monstrous bargain. "Freedom Convoy" leader, Pat King, recently live-streamed his arrest on Facebook. His racist public incitements to violence belie claims that the convoy was non-partisan and peaceful. As with other conspiracy-based events, inner circle communications and public relations messaging prove to be contradictory. From RFK Jr appearing at a Far Right rally in Berlin and militias storming the US Capitol on Jan 6 to anti-vaxxers gathering at the Lincoln memorial and the Ottawa truckers tying up traffic and trade for over a month, QAnon appears everywhere. This week, Julian pilots solo to interview extremism experts Sara Aniano (who regularly reports on the alt-tech far-right cess-pool, Telegram) and dappergander about recent developments in the Q-adjacent conspiracy sphere, implications for the planned American convoy, and the coming midterm elections in America. With only days until the 2020 Presidential Election, episode 140 looks at the increased attack on free speech and censorship by social media in favour of the Democratic party. We discuss why these tactics and the antics of groups like Antifa and Black Lives Matter make Donald Trump the preferred choice for many Americans and why it may ultimately lead to his reelection. We also look at the continued destruction of our financial and mental health due to the incompetent handling of COVID in the U.K. and why the Conservative government continues to miss the mark with all the policies it implements to help resolve this pandemic. Finally, we introduce a new segment called "The QPL of the Week" where we highlight one example of someone saying The Quiet Part Loud. In the first instalment, we look at Jane Fonda's recent interview where she says "Covid is God's gift to the left" referring to the 200,000+ deaths being favourable to the Democrats defeating Donald Trump in the upcoming election and how reprehensible that statement really is.
