In which a red-hot video game company crashes and burns, with a little help from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. The decline of Atari paved the way for a gaming renaissance— think Donkey Kong, Mario and eventually Pikachu. But as Japan took the upper-hand in the console business and taught a generation of American kids how to play, some Americans grew paranoid about a resurgent foreign power beating us at our own game. The wealthy beachfront community of Manhattan Beach, California—known for its surf culture—has a Black population of less than 1%. You'd never know that a black couple was one of its founding families. In the early 1900s, the city government seized a thriving Black-owned beach resort after pressure from white residents and the Ku Klux Klan. Today, activists have won the return of the beach to the Bruce family in the first-known case of land reparations for Black people in the US. Now, the whole community is confronting the reality of what it lost when it destroyed a Black beach paradise, and redefining who gains when reparations becomes a reality.Organize with us. A primary care physician and former Baptist preacher, Dr. Curtis Boyd hadn't planned on being an abortion provider— until the late 1960s, when ministers and rabbis from Texas reached out and asked him to be their trusted doctor. At 86, he is still at it. Heather visits his clinic in a story that uncovers the hidden history of how faith leaders were a linchpin of abortion access before Roe v. Wade, and how attacks on abortion rights have led to the revival of an underground clergy network today. Now, thanks to the tireless work of a cross-racial coalition of activists, clergy and religious volunteers are once again escorting women to obtain safe, legal abortions in New Mexico.Organize with us. In 1921, the small town of Minden, Nevada began sounding a “sundown siren” that warned Indigenous people to leave the city limits or face violent consequences. Over a hundred years later, the alarm still blares daily. Why? It depends on who you ask. In a town full of historic markers, there's nothing about the Indigenous history; local officials now say the siren is a tribute to first responders. Marty Meeden, a descendent of the local Washoe Tribe, had fought to end this traumatic daily reminder to no avail—until he met a pair of unlikely allies: a passionate white bicyclist and a teenage all-star runner. Together, they are working to silence the sundown siren forever, and show how remembering our history can help us all heal.Organize with us. Republican Congressional aide Neil Volz was convicted for conspiring to bribe members of Congress. Desmond Meade was a Black military veteran who fell into addiction, homelessness and prison. As people with a felony record, they were both stripped of their vote in the state of Florida. A chance encounter led to Desmond recruiting Neil, a white conservative, to join his audacious campaign to overturn the Jim Crow era felony voting ban. Their shared belief in second chances formed the basis of an unlikely friendship--and that friendship was one of the secret weapons in a broad multiracial, cross-partisan coalition that unleashed one of largest expansions of voting rights in US history.Organize with us. In 2020, Memphis residents began to hear rumors that a company called Plains All American was set to build a 49-mile oil pipeline through the city. At first, the pipeline appeared inevitable, planned to run through a “sacrifice zone” of all-Black neighborhoods that had already been poisoned by nearby heavy industry. But when local environmentalists discovered the pipeline would threaten Memphis' prized drinking water, they joined forces with a charismatic 26-year old, Justin J. Jeremy Murphy is the founder of 360bespoke, a media agency that provides public relations, content development, reputation management and crisis communications for clients in categories such as luxury, arts, fashion/ beauty, hospitality, travel, media, start-ups and entrepreneurs. Previously, Murphy spent 14 years at CBS where he served many roles as a Vice President, most notably as a company spokesperson and Editor-In-Chief. In addition, he is a respected speech writer, having worked with shoe designer Steve Madden on his address to the Accessories Council; Elle magazine editor in chief Nina Garcia; media executive Dawn Ostroff (Spotify, Conde Nast, CW network) and artists like Usher, Dolly Parton, Indya Moore and Issa Rae. At 360bespoke, which he launched in 2016, Murphy has achieved national media placements for his clients in Vanity Fair, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Today, Robb Report, US Weekly, Vogue, People magazine, New York Post, WWD, Cigar Aficionado, Allure, InStyle, Harper's Bazaar UK, Morning Joe (NSNBC), Fox Business, Town & Country, New York magazine, Billboard, The New Yorker, Good Day New York, KTLA Los Angeles, WNBC-TV New York, Scripps, Yahoo Business, Sinclair/Full Measure, KGO San Francisco, WGN-TV Chicago, Gotham, and the Daily Front Row among many other outlets. At CBS, Murphy oversaw all communications to media, including press releases, statements, announcements, executive biographies, as well as speeches for the company's top leaders. He wrote remarks for CEO Leslie Moonves, CW president Dawn Ostroff, as well as executives in charge of all its divisions. Murphy also oversaw media relations for its local television, radio and out-of-home companies. He gained industry recognition when he created and edited CBS' glossy magazine Watch, which redefined the perception of custom publishing. As its editor-in-chief, he built a respected masthead that featured top editorial talents like world-famous photographers Patrick Demarchelier, Ellen von Unwerth, Art Streiber and Ruven Afanodor, as well as fashion authority Kate Betts (former editor of Harper's Bazaar and Time Design & Style); Time magazine columnist Joel Stein; New York Times contributors Ben Widdicombe, Frank DeCaro and Stuart Elliot; and Allure senior editor Kristin Perrotta as contributors. Working with these creative forces, he infused the magazine's pages with elegant and timeless features, including recreations of French Impressionist paintings at the celebrated Hotel Plaza Athénée Paris; homages to Christian Dior and Babe Paley; and a cover shoot with actress Julianna Margulies by Demarchelier at the Hotel du Cap in the Côte d'Azur. The strategy successfully transitioned Watch from a publication to a brand encompassing print, television, online, video and social media. The pivot to luxury editorial also helped attract labels such as Tom Ford, YSL, Giorgio Armani, Dior, Givenchy, Salvatore Ferragamo, Valentino, Hugo Boss, Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton and Peninsula hotels as advertisers. Before CBS, Murphy worked as a reporter at Mediaweek, where he covered the nation's top 50 markets. He began as a feature writer with Knight Ridder newspapers. In 2010, Murphy was inducted into the Florida Atlantic University Alumni Hall of Fame. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bella-mag/support

A Apple lançou o Apple Podcasts for Creators. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are podcasters now.Spotify announced on Tuesday an exclusive partnership with Archewell Audio, a new, audio-first production company founded by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The deal allows the couple to grow their streaming and media footprint. It's their latest investment since they announced in January that they were stepping back from their roles as senior members of the British royal family and becoming "financially independent." In September, Harry and Meghan signed a multi-year production deal with Netflix. Meghan also narrated the documentary "Elephants" on Disney+.For Spotify, a music streaming app that is also building a podcast empire with major acquisitions and exclusive content from big names, the deal cements its reputation as a destination for prestige audio content. Kim Kardashian West signed an exclusive deal with Spotify in June. Michelle Obama debuted "The Michelle Obama Podcast" on Spotify in July. "The Joe Rogan Experience," one of the most popular podcasts in the world, is now exclusive to Spotify. This partnership brings exclusive content from two more high profile celebrities to serve and grow Spotify's global audience of 320 million monthly active users. The company said in a press release Tuesday that the two "will host and produce podcasts that build community through shared experience, narratives, and values."Archewell Audio's multi-year partnership with Spotify includes numerous programs, some hosted and others produced by the Duke and Duchess. A holiday special hosted by them will be released later this month. Their first series will debut next year. All projects will be available exclusively on Spotify."What we love about podcasting is that it reminds all of us to take a moment and to really listen, to connect to one another without distraction," The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in a joint statement. "With the challenges of 2020, there has never been a more important time to do so, because when we hear each other, and hear each other's stories, we are reminded of how interconnected we all are."Dawn Ostroff, chief content and advertising business officer for Spotify, told CNN Business last year that the company was planning to offer more exclusives as a way to lure customers from the other podcast platforms."The Duke and Duchess of Sussex may live in California but the power of their voices rests in their status as citizens of the world," Ostroff said in a statement on Tuesday. "That they are embracing the extraordinary capacity of podcasts on Spotify while also seeking to elevate underrepresented voices is a testament to their appreciation for the potential of audio storytelling."text by Kerry Flynn, CNN Business

Welcome to The epDate, where we bring you the latest in podcasting for podcast people World Podcast News Popular Australian true crime podcast ‘The Teacher’s Pet’ will be temporarily taken down from Australian podcast channels following the arrest of accused murderer Chris Dawson. The podcast series by Hedley Thomas of The Australian investigated the disappearance of Chris’s wife Lyn Dawson in January, 1982. Renewed interest in the investigation spawned from the podcast, which has garnered over 28 million downloads since its release in May, 2018 - put the public eye back on the investigation and helped uncover new evidence, some of which may be used in the upcoming trial. Hedley Thomas said in an update on the 5th of April that the decision to take down the podcast was not taken lightly, but revealed that the show had received expert advice suggesting that it was the appropriate action to take to help ensure that Chris Dawson gets a fair trial. The audio streaming service Spotify has declared that podcasting will play a vital role going forward, with chief content officer, Dawn Ostroff declaring that the exploding industry’s ever-growing interest has gone beyond anything that any of us could have imagined. Ostroff told an audience at a South by South West session in Austin, Texas, that to achieve Spotify’s goal of being the world’s largest audio platform, podcasting has to play a part. Ostroff stated that according to their data, people who listen to podcasts on spotify spend twice as much time on the platform - while also listening to more music. Ostroff also suggested that longer podcasts are on the agenda for the future as well, with audience engagement sky-high for shows with an average runtime of 90 minutes and even shows that last in surplus of 3 hours. Two hosts of a podcast dedicated to recapping their favourite reality TV series have had their wildest dreams come true, with the reality show set to feature the two as guests on an upcoming episode. Comedians Max Cohen and Jim Search, hosts of Shut It Down: The Bar Rescue Recap Show, achieved the ultimate goal of featuring on an episode of their beloved ‘Bar Rescue’, a show where Jon Taffer, well-known entrepreneur, and owner of a bar and nightclub consulting firm, gives the Gordon Ramsey treatment to nightclubs and pubs to help them from closing. Cohen and Search aim to recap every single episode of the reality show. So far they are 65 episodes deep, with more than 100 more episodes to recap. Check out the show on your favourite podcasting app. “She Podcasts” - A facebook group and podcast launched 5 years ago to support and promote women’s podcasting, will host their first live event this year in Atlanta, Georgia, following immense crowdfunding support from their followers. She Podcasts began as a small facebook group for women podcasters to gain quick podcasting answers, tips and resources from one another. Now with over 12, 000 members, the vision for She Podcasts “is to support and nurture as many female-lead podcasts as possible, and to encourage knowledge sharing without excessive promotion”. It had been the group’s goal to host a live event for women’s podcasters for some time, but after hitting their target of $25, 000 on kickstarter - in fact clocking $40, 000 at the time of recording - they will now be hosting a podcasting weekend described as a “weekend of learning, camaraderie, and belonging”. Held between the 11th and 13th of October, the weekend will be about learning the core skills and aspects needed for every stage of podcasting. As ‘She Podcasts’ states on their kickstarter campaign, the event is: “part retreat and part conference and part slumber party”. Check out She Podcast on Facebook or their Kickstarter page, for more details. Fans of the WWE are in for a treat as two former champions have a brand new weekly podcast.
