They explore why standard protocols can miss important client needs, how parts work can support trauma treatment, and what therapists should consider when working with neurodivergent clients whose trauma is tied to masking, chronic correction, social rejection, and being misunderstood. In this episode, we talk about: Why EMDR often needs adaptation across all eight phases How parts work can support neurodivergent clients in trauma treatment The impact of masking, correction, and misunderstanding as trauma Sensory, communication, and processing differences therapists need to consider Moving away from compliance-based care toward attunement and collaboration About the guests Christine MacInnis, MSed, MS, LMFT owns Transcends Family Therapy in Torrance, California, specializing in neurodiversity and LGBTQIA+ affirming, trauma-informed care. The Buddha's Last Teaching: Impermanence & ParinirvāṇaIn this episode, we explore one of the most meaningful and human moments in all of Buddhism: the Buddha's final days, his final teachings, and what his parinirvāṇa (his final passing or 'final Nirvana') really means for us today. We'll walk through the Buddha's last journey to Kuśinagara, the touching conversations he had with Ānanda, and the Saṅgha, and the powerful guidance he offered even while facing the end of his life. His final message, which is that all conditioned things are impermanent, and that we must strive with diligence, becomes a living reminder of how to practice right now, in our everyday lives. You'll also learn how Theravada and Mahayana understand parinirvāṇa.For example, Theravāda emphasizes the historical Buddha's final passing and the importance of the Dharma as our guide. In contrast, Mahāyāna adds the perspective of the Buddha's three bodies (trikāya) and explains why awakened bodhisattvas attain nirvāṇa but choose not to enter parinirvāṇa, remaining in the world out of compassion for all beings. This episode is both a teaching and a reflection. It's an invitation to look closely at impermanence, to appreciate the preciousness of this moment, and to carry the Buddha's final encouragement into your own practice.Contact Alan: alanpeto.com/contactPodcast Homepage: alanpeto.com/podcastPodcast Disclaimer: alanpeto.com/legal/podcast-disclaimer

Challenges included capturing the dialog on set while surrounded by complicated visual effects and stunts and the sound design and editorial of creating entirely new sounds for super powers and pocket dimensions. The new film Nuremberg is a surprisingly dense and complicated film for it's sound. Dialog/ADR supervisor Ulrika Akander & Re-Recording Mixer/Sound Designer/Supervising Sound Editor Michael Babcock joined me to talk about their unique approach to the audio post on this film. Using what they refer to as a "rolling premix" the film was tackled over a longer period of time with a small crew. Gisle Tveito has been dreaming up the sounds in director Joachim Trier's films since 2006 and the two have collaborated again on the wonderful new film Sentimental Value. Gisle joins me to talk about the challenges of working on the sound for quiet, internal films. Including building an emotional map of the entire movie to determine where the sonic focus changes occur. He also discusses how he attacks a project where he is the dialog editor, sound effects editor, music editor, voice over director and re-recording mixer. Sinners was a massive critical and box office hit earlier this year. The sound work was a major reason audiences flocked to see it. Part Vampire/Horror, part period gangster and part full blown musical, Sinners is not a film that needed a standard approach to it's sound design and mix. Re-recording mixer Brandon Proctor, Supervising Sound Editor Benny Burtt, Supervising Dialogue & ADR Editor David Butler, Music Editor Felipe Pacheco and Production Sound Mixer Chris Welker talk us through how the sound track was built. Topics range from capturing the the voices and live music on set, to designing the sound of the Mississippi Delta in the 1930s, to mixing everything together to feel real on the mix stage. Finally Re-Recording Mixer/Sound Designer, Steve Boeddeker, joins us to lead an in depth discussion on how long is the perfect amount of time for a blood curdling scream to last? __________ Sponsors: This Black Friday, Sound Ideas is offering its biggest savings of the year! Viktor is an impressive documentary that relies on sound to tell it's story. The film's protagonist is a deaf photographer living in Ukraine, documenting the Russian invasion of of his country after he finds out he is not allowed to sign up as a soldier. Using innovative sound design to immerse the audience in Viktor's POV (or more accurately POH, point of hearing), the film focuses on his frustration at being unable to fight in the traditional sense and his passion for photography, as a way to serve his country. This spoiler free conversation with Sound Designer Peter Albrechtsen, Sound Designer/Foley Artist Heikki Kossi and Re-recording Mixer Tim Nielsen, discusses how they manipulated the sound in the film to approximate how Viktor hears and just as importantly, when to employ these techniques. The sound design for Viktor evolved drastically from the start of postproduction to the final mix. They began with hard rules for when and how to twist the audio. Yet for the final version, all those rules were thrown out the door. It is an interesting case study following the journey a soundtrack to find a film's “voice”. The sound team interview is followed up with a one on one talk with Viktor's director Olivier Sarbil. Olivier is an impressive man with a very unique relationship to the audio postproduction phase of film making. SPONSORS: This Black Friday, Sound Ideas is offering its biggest savings of the year!
