Amanda Hunter's journey from the depths of addiction to a life of purpose and peace illuminates the extraordinary power of redemption. Born into a military family without spiritual foundation, Amanda's early experimentation with substances at age 13 set the stage for decades of struggle. The absence of faith left her vulnerable to toxic relationships, depression, and ultimately a devastating spiral into prescription drug abuse that evolved into heroin and methamphetamine addiction. The turning point came dramatically—a high-speed police chase through Destin ending in her arrest with 47 criminal charges. It was rock bottom. Face down in the dirt, handcuffed, Amanda believed she had nothing left to lose. But within the confines of Okaloosa County Jail, she encountered Jesus. Through studying Ephesians, she discovered her battles weren't merely chemical imbalances as doctors had claimed, but spiritual warfare that required spiritual solutions. What makes Amanda's testimony particularly powerful is her raw honesty about recovery. After 16 months in jail, Stephanie McMinn from the Yellow House offered her an alternative to prison—a faith-based recovery program that required her to face her emotions without medication. "It wasn't graceful," Amanda admits. The healing journey meant confronting perfectionism, control issues, and learning to receive love after years of abuse had taught her to expect harm from relationships. Most challenging was forgiving herself.Today, Amanda manages All Things New, a nonprofit gift shop where she mentors women walking similar paths. Her message transcends mere sobriety—it's about an "upside-down kingdom" where what the world labels failure becomes part of a beautiful testimony. For anyone feeling hopeless, her words resonate with quiet authority: "He delights in you, even in your mess. He's never taken His eye off of you." Amanda's life stands as living proof that relationship with Jesus changes everything, not by avoiding pain, but by finding purpose within it.Take your first step today. Read God's Word. Find a Christ-centered community. Your road to redemption awaits. For more information contact us atrtrdestiny@gmail.com

Immeasurably More // New Identity Ephesians 4:17-32 (NIV)“So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed. That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”  1.     In Christ, We Have a New Identity. Ephesians 4:22 (NIV)“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires.” Ephesians 4:24 (NIV)“And to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” Colossians 3:9-10 (NIV)“…You have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” Romans 13:12, 14 (NIV)“…Let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.”  Ephesians 4:1 (NIV)“…I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.”  Matthew 6:8 (ESV)“Do not be like them…” Romans 12:2 (NIV)"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” 2.    In Christ We Should be Honest and Not Lie.  Ephesians 4:25 (NIV)“Therefore, each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.” Christians Are to Have Righteous Anger, Not Unrighteous. Ephesians 4:26-27 (NIV)“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.” Psalm 4:4 (ESV)“Be angry, and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent.” Psalm 119:53 (ESV)“Hot indignation seizes me because of the wicked, who forsake your law.” Mark 3:5 (ESV)“And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart…” Christians Are to Work, Be Generous, and Not Steal. Ephesians 4:28 (NIV)“Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.” Christians are to Replace Corrupt Talk with Edifying Talk. Ephesians 4:29 (NIV)“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:30 (NIV)“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”     Christians are to Replace Bitterness and Rage with Kindness and Forgiveness. Ephesians 4:31-32 (NIV)“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. What happens when a life spirals into addiction and then finds redemption through faith and community support? Join us on Road to Redemption as we uncover the compelling journey of Samara Bailey, a remarkable community outreach coordinator. Samara shares her vivid experiences growing up in Southern California during the 1980s, where early encounters with alcohol set the stage for struggles with methamphetamine and complex relationships. Her story is one of resilience, highlighting how faith and spiritual encounters have guided her towards six years of sobriety and a powerful impact on her community.Through a chapter aptly named "Radical Grace," we explore Samara's transformation during a profound spiritual awakening in Okaloosa County Jail, igniting a mission to spread hope both within and beyond the confines of incarceration. Psalm 139 becomes a touchstone for her personal transformation, while the decision to seek rehabilitation at Path of Grace underscores the necessity for lasting freedom from the chains of addiction. Samara's journey exemplifies the extraordinary power of faith to inspire meaningful change and illuminate a path to recovery. As we navigate the persistent journey of recovery, we emphasize the continuous nature of healing and the importance of community support. Encouragement is extended to those grappling with addiction to reach out to trusted "lighthouses" for guidance. We also introduce an upcoming fundraising event at Drive the Coast aimed at enhancing recovery efforts. Our conversation wraps with heartfelt advice to seek spiritual growth through local Bible-centered churches and small groups, alongside a prayer of gratitude for the privilege of sharing these stories of hope and redemption. For more information contact us atrtrdestiny@gmail.com

Where Is Your Treasure? A Reflection on Matthew 6:19-21 It's been a while since I shared my thoughts from the pulpit, but today, I want to revisit a sermon I preached back in 2011. This time, I've refreshed and expanded on the message, focusing on a critical question: Where is your treasure? The Heart of the Matter: Matthew 6:19-21 Let's begin with a familiar passage from the Sermon on the Mount: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” — Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV) These verses challenge us to consider the nature of our treasures. Are we investing in earthly possessions that will fade away, or are we focusing on treasures that hold eternal significance? The Parable of the Talents In Matthew 25, the Parable of the Talents illustrates our responsibility as stewards of God's gifts. We are called to multiply what God has given us for His glory. This raises a crucial question: Do we recognize that all our resources belong to God? The Call to Stewardship Stewardship is about being faithful with what we have. As Luke 16:10 states: “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” Our actions, both big and small, reflect our faithfulness. In 2 Corinthians 5:10, we are reminded that we will all appear before the judgment seat of Christ to give an account of our stewardship. The Futility of Earthly Treasures Reflecting on earthly treasures, we can easily see their transient nature. Moths, rust, and thieves are constant reminders of the vulnerability of our material possessions. Here are some key points to consider: Material Wealth: Money, cars, homes, and possessions can provide temporary happiness but ultimately cannot be taken with us. Identity and Reputation: Our status and how others perceive us can sometimes lead us to seek validation through earthly means, which can be fleeting. Hypocrisy: Are we living authentically, or are we merely playing a role to impress others? The Second Law of Thermodynamics Interestingly, the second law of thermodynamics states that disorder tends to increase over time. This principle can be seen in our lives as well. Without intentionality, our earthly treasures will deteriorate, and our focus can shift away from what truly matters. Treasures in Heaven: How to Invest Wisely So, how do we lay up treasures in heaven? Here are some practical steps: Honor God with Your Wealth: As Proverbs 3:9-10 suggests, honoring God with our resources is vital. Be Generous: 1 Timothy 6:17-19 encourages us to be rich in good works and generous in sharing. Invest in Relationships: Building godly relationships and investing in others is a way to lay up treasures in heaven. Our children, for instance, are a significant part of this investment. The Importance of Connection Recently, I've noticed how the pandemic has changed our interactions. In a world where eye contact has become rare, I took the opportunity to engage with those around me while waiting in line at the grocery store. I struck up conversations with older individuals, and their gratitude for the simple act of chatting reminded me that many people crave connection. This experience reinforced the idea that we can lay up treasures in heaven by truly relating to others. Here are some ways to foster those connections: Take Time to Talk: Don't underestimate the power of a simple conversation. A few kind words can uplift someone's day. Be Present: Make an effort to look people in the eye and engage with them; it shows that you value them as individuals. Serve Others: Acts of kindness, whether small or large, can create ripples of goodwill and build lasting relationships. The Importance of Our Children As we reflect on laying up treasures, it's essential to recognize our children as invaluable assets in God's kingdom. They are like arrows in the hands of a warrior (Psalm 127:3-5), capable of making a lasting impact. Building the Next Generation Investing in our children's spiritual growth through programs like Adventure Club can help teach them sound doctrine and scripture. This investment not only benefits them but also builds a foundation for future generations. Conclusion: Shifting Our Focus In closing, let us remember the example of Christ, who spent His life serving others rather than focusing on Himself. By shifting our focus outward and investing in relationships, we can lay up treasures in heaven. What practical steps can you take this week to ensure your treasures are stored in heaven? Share your thoughts and ideas in the comments below! https://transcript.lol/read/generic/unknown/670d3047ddbb995e375ecea7

This episode focuses on the importance of beach hut etiquette. Natalie discusses the concept of etiquette and its application to beach hut communities. She highlights the need for respectful behaviour, cleanliness, and consideration for others when using and sharing beach huts. The episode provides a comprehensive guide to beach hut etiquette, covering topics such as respecting boundaries, managing noise levels, guest conduct, cleanliness, fire safety, and interactions with neighbours. Natalie emphasizes the significance of practising good etiquette to create a positive and enjoyable beach hut experience for all beachgoers.  KEY TAKEAWAYS Respect Boundaries: It is important to respect the space around other beach huts and avoid encroaching on neighbouring areas with chairs, umbrellas, and other belongings. Check the Volume: Keep noise levels in check, especially when hosting guests at the beach hut, to ensure a pleasant environment for all beach hutters. Keep it Clean: Dispose of litter properly, clean up after yourself, and maintain cleanliness inside and around the beach hut to contribute to a positive beach experience. Look after Facilities: Treat the hut and its contents with care, use resources like water and electricity responsibly, and ensure belongings are secure to maintain the hut's amenities. Be Generous of Nature: Foster a friendly atmosphere by greeting hut neighbours, offering help when needed, and engaging in small acts of kindness to enhance the beach hut community spirit. BEST MOMENTS "Etiquette, well, it's a pretty word, but what is it all about? I decided to go old school and consult one of those dictionary thingies."  "I cannot find any documentation specifically about Beach Hut etiquette. This seems to be a huge oversight."  "Adult excitement is a rare event, like discovering your favourite chocolate bar is on offer, or the making another series of your favourite TV programme."  "Sand management, much more fun than project management or any other type of management that I've found." "Small acts of kindness can have such a massive ripple effect."  HOST BIO My name is Natalie Young. I bought a beach hut to bring joy into my life after escaping an abusive relationship and a difficult divorce.  Based in Christchurch, Dorset, my beach hut is affectionally called the Salty Seagull and is located on Friars Cliff beach with sea views to the Needles on the Isle of White. It is my slice of heaven.  Owning and hiring a beach hut is more complicated than I realised and I am on a constant mission to discover the best ways to manage and care for your hut. I have researched the pros and cons of renting and the best ways to market and host. Moving along through the path of a man's life, we next stop at the years of "career and family man."  The point at which this phase starts may change from man to man.  But the years are marked by marriage, raising a family, holding down a job, buying a home, and many other important milestones.  This is most likely the majority of where a man will spend his days.  It is important to not just focus on his own wealth and accumulation of "stuff."  To serve his family and others well.  And to stay pure and holy especially in terms of the issues of lust and sexuality.  This is an important stage of life to make sure the foundation in Christ remains solid.  Retirement and the last phase of life lies right around the corner...Mentioned in this episode: Be Generous podcast series --  BE GENEROUS - Stewarding Money & ResourcesBE GENEROUS - Giving Of Our Time & Talents

In today's gospel, Jesus tells his followers that any kindness they show to others is the same as showing kindness to him, even as small as a cup of cold water. In her first sermon with us, Pastor Michelle explains that what Jesus really is say to us is "Be Generous." We can find al sorts of reasons not to, like "what if I don't have enough," or "I don't have time," but even the smallest act of kindness will make a difference, and many times will come back to us.

A DECLINE IN FORMAL RELIGIONA study from the Pew Research Center found that Christians accounted for about 90% of the population 50 years ago, but as of 2020, that figure has slumped to about 64%.The study found that the number of people who identify as “religiously unaffiliated” is on the rise. Although some of these individuals are atheists, it mostly comprises a population that is agnostic, spiritual, or nothing specific. This percentage is currently projected to overtake the US Christian majority by the year 2070. "Some scholars say that it's just an inevitable consequence of development for societies to secularize. Once there are strong secular institutions, once people's basic needs are met, there's less need for religion… Other people point out that affiliation really started to drop in the '90s. And it may not be a coincidence that this coincides with the rise of the religious right and more associations between Christianity and conservative political ideology." – Stephanie KramerPRIVATIZED RELIGION This is when one believes they should rely on themselves rather than the established or organized religious traditions to answer spiritual questions – “I am into Jesus, but not the Church.” JESUS AND THE CHURCHAs evident in the scriptures, Jesus believed in the church, not just in the Christian community but also in the institutional religion of his day. “For Jesus, the church was never optional. Jesus was not anti-institutional. He regularly led his disciples and himself into the church of the first century which was the synagogue and temple…. [Jesus] immersed himself in the relationships at the temple, he went to the temple for prayer, and he added his own voice to the teaching of that temple.” – Tyler StatonHOW DO WE DO CHURCH TOGETHER IN 5 COMMITMENTSReveal the kingdom of JesusThe kingdom of Jesus or the reign of God, is not simply the rule of God in each believer's heart, but a kingdom that pervades every aspect of our lives- the spiritual and the physical- and looks utterly unlike the kingdoms of this world. It is an upside-down Kingdom, a new world order– under the leadership of Jesus. It is a Kingdom that we were made to be a part of."We are built to live in the kingdom of God. It is our natural habitat." – Dallas Willard“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”– Mark 1:15Belong to a microchurchMicorchurch, is prayer, scripture, and mission. So just like the disciples, we may be a messy bunch of people with varying beliefs and backgrounds, but we come together time and time again, in the midst of laughter and conflict, to shape one another. So here is my encouragement to you today…If you are not a part of a microchurch, consider joining one or starting one. Sign up for Dinner Party. If you are already in a microchurch, re-evaluate and commit to being part of that community. Regularly attend unless you're out of town, sick, or there is an unforeseen, unavoidable circumstance outside of your control. Give your wonderful mirochurch leader a 24 hours notice for any absence. Actively participate: help with the meal, hosting, and clean up. Add to the conversation, prayer, and discussion. Lead a microchurch. We need more microchurch leaders who are willing to open their homes and hearts to pastoring people. If you are interested in this, talk with your current microchurch leader or one of our pastoral team members. Gather on Sunday We still believe in the value of the Sunday rhythm. There is something about gathering together, letting the voices of those around you carry you, hearing the stories of the people of God, being reminded of the teachings of Jesus, being challenged to commit to a spiritual practice every week, confessing with one another and taking communion with one another that forms us and shapes us to be the sent people of God. ServeJesus' teachings and the depictions of the early church in the New Testament is filled with instruction to us regarding service. To name a few…Mark 10:44-45 says, “And whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”1 Peter 4:10 says, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.” Galatians 5:13-14 “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”Jesus and his disciples instructed in and demonstrated service to one another and to those in need. And it is our desire to reclaim the full breadth of the word service including both those two things: serving one another and the community of Kansas City. Serve one another on a Sunday. At Midtown Church, we desire to be a place where many do a few things instead of the few doing many. So, here is my request: please consider serving one another 1-2 times a month, to say I am going to contribute to serving this community of Jesus followers on a regular basis. Serve the community throughout the week. Service should always extend much farther and wider than these four walls to the people of Midtown and to Kansas City. At Midtown Church, we want to shift from a praxis that says only certain people or ministries are called to serve and love the poor, oppressed, and marginalized to a praxis that says all are called. Jesus' teachings are pretty clear that serving the marginalized is a Gospel mandate. This month, our serve day is Trunk or Treat on October 29. Last year we had 500 people in attendance, a vast majority of which are local and from low-income families. Be Generous. We are descendants of an ancient church that has historically practiced a 10% tithe. And as a participant in this community, we ask that you work toward that 10%. “Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” – Mark 12:41-44This is why we pray our generosity prayer every week as we work to shape our hearts and minds toward the person of Jesus and not the idol of money. As we work to be more like the poor widow than the rich people in this story. Five CommitmentsReveal the Kingdom of JesusBelong to a MicrochurchGather on SundayServeBe Generous

Today, we're joined by David Spinks, VP of Community at Bevy and Co-Founder of CMX. The CMX Community recently launched its new set of values. These values are: • Be generous • Be ground-breaking • Be actively inclusive Community values are not the same as company values. Company values decide how your company does business. Community values define how community members - not necessarily the founders and managers but users of the company's products/services - can interact with each other and create a supportive culture with communication as its base. These two sets of values should be aligned, but they do have to be independently defined. Hire a consultant for DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) to help translate your values through the DEI lens and make sure they're future-ready. Collect ideas for values from your community management team, organize them into themes, take feedback from DEI consultants, and publish them as version one for the community to give you feedback. Take feedback from long-time members, moderators, and superfans in your community for the first round of revisions. Then take the second version of your values document to the rest of the broader collection of community members for their feedback. Your community members will embody the values, create the space, and essentially become the culture, and therefore, their voices must be heard. More of them will feel more invested in the community. Their feedback will improve your values into something that is more widely accepted and more accurate. Lead with these values during community registration, membership confirmation, and community events. Empower your members to report those who don't comply with these values.

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all! I'm keeping this week's podcast episode short and sweet because I want to get back to spending quality time with my family-and, of course, I want you to do the same. I really love this holiday. Not only does it feel like the official kickoff to the holiday season, but it's also such a sweet time to remember all that God has blessed us with. Whether you have plans to spend this week in a crowded house with tons of extended family members or you plan to keep things low-key, I want to encourage you to be fully present. This holiday will be what you make it, and you can make it great. Before I let you go today, I want to share five simple things you can do this week to make your holiday a lot more special: 1. Write a thoughtful note. I think nice things about people all the time, but I always forget to tell them! Do you do that? I once heard someone say that thinking something nice about someone and not telling the person is like wrapping a gift and not giving it to them. That is so true! I actually save every handwritten note I'm given. No matter what anyone says, handwritten notes are not outdated-they're gifts people treasure. So, this week, spend a little bit of time writing notes to people who come to mind. You can give them a word of encouragement, say thank you for something, or give them a compliment that will make their day. Receiving a handwritten note is rare in our digital age, so brighten someone else's day with a sweet and unexpected note. 2. Be hospitable. 'Tis the season to show love to the people God has placed in your life by inviting them into your home. But the truth is, the holidays are a difficult time for many people. Maybe there's someone in your life who doesn't have a place to go during the holidays. Maybe there's a neighbor or a coworker who doesn't have family in town. This is the perfect opportunity to build new relationships by sharing your home, a meal, or even a simple cup of coffee with someone new. 3. Disconnect completely. I'm not just encouraging you to silence your phone or put it in airplane mode. This Thanksgiving, I want you to put it out of reach and out of sight completely-at the very least, for one full day. I often pick up my phone out of habit if I can see it. So if I'm sitting at the dinner table and I can see my phone close by, I'll pick it up and check it-even if there's been no ring or notification. But that doesn't happen when I can't see it. That's why I want you to put your phone in a different room, where it will be out of sight and out of mind. When you do this, you're giving the people around you an incredible gift: your undivided attention. And if you want to take photos, why not do something crazy, like buy a disposable camera that you can pass around? How fun would it be to see what kind of photos you get out of it? 4. Plan to be generous. This is the time of year when we're all acutely aware of how much we have to be grateful for, and it puts us in a generous spirit. But you know what? You've got to plan for that in your budget and even put it on your calendar. Believe it or not, a lot of nonprofit organizations have cut-off dates for their Christmas giving-some cutoffs are as early as the first week...
