Ben and Roane discuss the concept of "spiritual bypass," a phenomenon where individuals use religious or spiritual language to avoid dealing with their emotional pain. They highlight how this practice is prevalent in faith communities and can be harmful, leading to a lack of accountability and genuine growth. Examples include phrases like "God's gonna use this" and "When God closes a door, he opens a window." They emphasize the importance of addressing trauma, emotional sobriety, and the need for empathy and real love. The conversation aims to challenge the spiritual bypass culture and promote genuine spiritual growth and transformation. To learn more about the Sex, God, & Chaos team, click the link below: www.sexgodchaos.com Looking for help? In a world that is increasingly consumed by fear, injustice, and division, many of us are left asking: What do we do with our anger? In this sermon from a recent Sunday Gathering, Emily Perry draws inspiration from Martin Luther King Jr.'s timeless message in “A Knock at Midnight” and explores how A Course in Miracles invites us to respond to anger in a spiritually-grounded way. Through practical insights and personal stories, we'll look at: • How conventional views of anger shape our thinking • What the Course teaches about the roots of anger • A 3-step healing process for transforming anger into love • Why miracle-mindedness—not rage—is our true source of strength If you're feeling the darkness of our time and longing to be a light within it, this message is for you. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. Here is part two of my serious on emotional awareness and its benefits in a mixed faith marriage. Spiritual bypass is when one uses religion instead of doing emotional work (processing emotion, awareness of emotions, talking about emotions, allowing emotions, etc). It is unfortunately common in a mixed faith marriage due to social programming. There are VERY REAL impacts of spiritual bypass on a marriage. Romano, we dive deep into the transformational journey of healing childhood trauma and why it's the most important work you'll ever do. In this episode, Ben, Roane, and Roe discuss the complexities of engaging in therapeutic work, particularly in the context of addiction and relationship issues. They highlight the challenges faced by individuals and couples seeking therapy, including unrealistic expectations and the misconception that therapy can quickly resolve deep-seated issues. They emphasize the importance of consistent effort, support groups, and attunement in the therapeutic process. The conversation also touches on the role of social media in shaping perceptions and the necessity of addressing underlying emotional and attachment issues rather than just surface problems. To learn more about the Sex, God, & Chaos team, click the link below: www.sexgodchaos.com Looking for help? Ep. 271 Spiritual Bypass - Rev. Sue MillerBorn From the Sunday Service at the Center for Spiritual Living in Redding on 8-4-24
Spiritual Bypassing is a an emotional device we use when we don't want to face something. We throw love and compassion at an uncomfortable or triggering situation we want to avoid instead, perhaps even fooling ourselves we're more spiritually superior or taking the high road - when in fact we're just avoiding being uncomfortable.
Matt Droguett is a Life Consultant and Self-Sabotage expert who is passionate about encouraging men in living whole and healthy lives, and who firmly believes in the importance of doing his own inner work. Hailing from the Hawaiian islands, he brings his experience, expertise, and attention to men caught in patterns of sabotaging their marriage, particularly through use of pornography. His dream is to see emotionally healthy people go viral. As is our custom, we talk about recovery - Matt's passion is not about helping men quit using porn; what he wants is for them to be able to live whole and healthy lives! Porn just happens to often be one of the biggest obstacles. We further discuss the challenge of the Spiritual Bypass and why you can't just pray away your addiction problems. We explore at some length the difference between a thriving spiritual practice that builds a strong connection with God and doing all the same religious behaviors as a way of avoiding yourself. Along the way, we talk about men and leadership, and the balance of “owning and leading your ship,” with humility. Drawing on his coaching background, and me reflecting on running men's recovery groups, we talk about a very practical issue - how much should a person in recovery tell their partner about slips, lapses, relapses, wayward thoughts, or other means of acting out? There's a balance to strike between overshare and deception, and we aim to articulate what that is. The important thing to remember if you have lied to and betrayed your partner is that your partner's biggest need is for safety. Finally, we talk about the necessity for community, for spiritual practices, and for regularly doing spiritual practices in community. The Outer Circle Inner Stillness is made possible by support from listeners, patrons, likes, and shares. To learn more about how to support the podcast, visit www.patreon.com/outercircle. He is further developing the ap “Uplift,” which is meant to encourage men by reminding them of what they already know about how to live well.
Some people say that moving beyond old wounds before they are healed is a spiritual bypass. They believe you cannot move beyond until you have healed. Yet, the life journey is a continual process of healing. So how can you be your authentic self while you're in the process? We change our relationship to our past, our old wounds, and the pain they cause. Our movement is more of a dance - we learn to express ourselves and be ourselves as we are moving through the divine choreography. This is not inauthentic. It's real.To heal means to make whole. With awareness and ever-evolving consciousness, we can continue to heal as we move. The important thing is that we accept ourselves in our perfect imperfections as we grow. We do not live from our old wounds, but we have awareness of our relationship to them as we evolve into more and more authentic and fulfilling aspects our ourselves. So how do we dance this dance that allows us to move beyond old wounds with authenticity and wisdom? Listen to today's Meditation & Healing Circle for a transformative healing experience. You're invited to join us LIVE for The Meditation & Healing Circle - every Sunday at 10am US ET / 7am US PT. When you join live, you can stay on after the recorded meditation for Q&A, support and discussion. https://CommunityforConsciousLiving.com

While the chaos and conflict in the world continue, it is more important than ever to create stability and security in your own field. From this place of calm, neutral balance, and peace within, we can have a tremendous impact on the collective. I'm not talking about spiritual bypass—meditating our way out of real-world atrocities—but about that deep inner work that includes being honest with yourself about how you create resistance and struggle for yourself. Whether you feel called to speak out against or for something or take action for a cause, the most important thing we can each do as individuals is address the conflict, distraction, and fear within ourselves. As more people consciously disengage from the fear and conflict programming inundating our screens, the more momentum we will build toward a new way of operating on this planet. "You need to feel it in order to heal it."But do you really Becky?Or is that just something all the personal development people say?As a somatic practitioner and hypnotist who teaches people how to regulate emotions (often to the point where you can't feel them at all), I get a lot of questions about this.Shouldn't we be feeling our emotions instead of knocking them down?Do we really have to experience negative emotion to heal and be healthy? You can don't need to feel negative emotions. But believe it or not, sometimes you might want to.In today's podcast, I'll share some of the ways that allowing negative emotion serves us. Deepens us. We're exploring the concept of Spiritual Bypass; specifically, the ways that we often bypass what it really means for the collective in favor of an easier, individualistic lens. I offer reflections and, in leu of meditation, some self-inquiry and calls to action to reflect the way that this practice is a little more about the external than the internal . // Stay connected on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/laura__tara/ and on the web: https://lauratara.com/

In response to your podcast on CBD oil as spiritual bypassing. 24 April.I love the episode by the way. I love so many of them, thank you.Is there an importance of understanding the cause of the child's playout, or is being really present to and digging into the emotion, into what is being hidden and the experienced enough? E.g do we need to trace back to the specific trauma that occurred to know where the trigger comes from? Is acknowledging it as childhood trauma without knowing or investigating the actual source, the trauma itself spiritual bypass? ❤️
Is taking CBD oil for my anxiety spiritual bypass?
"While spiritual bypassing may be less harmful than some other coping mechanisms, it can still lead to negative outcomes that hurt an individual's ability to grow as a person and fulfill their potential. In today's podcast, Gregory chats about spiritual bypass. What do we do when we touch down on a something largely distressing in our meditation practice, but we don't address it head on? Perhaps we tiptoe around it, like a sleeping dragon. Maybe we even deny that something needs to be worked on, or because it doesn't come up for a while, we believe we've healed it, only to find it was sleeping and awakens later. Spiritual bypass is a tricky and very common occurrence - tune in to today's episode where Gregory gives examples of what to look for, and how to address the sleeping dragons head-on. On this intimate and education solo episode, I dive into my current adventures with adrenal fatigue, nervous system healing and how poly-vagal theory ties these together. I also share about my insights into spiritual bypass and how I was unable to see where my work really was, until I couldn't 'do' anything else. I share my insights from Irene Lyon's work and programs and some of my key takeaways from learning about adrenal burnout, the different phases and some of the key remedies that we can do to help our kidneys and adrenal glands (hint: vitamin C). It's been enlighting for me on a deep level and I'm happy to report I'm starting to see and more importantly, feel, some shifts. It hasn't been easy and patience is taking on a new meaning, but I do feel this work specifically on the nervous system, is absolutely essential for true healing and being at our most vital. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mindufulenduranceprogram/support

Sidney is a mom and a mystic who has always been fascinated by the mystery of Life. The birth of her first child in the midst of a dark period catapulted her spiritual journey to new levels. She was guided down a path of feminine embodiment and the energy medicine of the Q'ero shamanic lineage taught by the Four Winds Society. Through this journey around the “medicine wheel” she honored her ancestors, healed generational patterns, learned rituals to connect with the wisdom of Mother Earth, and ultimately awakened to profound levels of love with her partner and children. She is now endeavoring to help other mama's and families to heal their patterns, develop greater presence, and connect to the Earth.

You may have heard about the frog serum kambo as a trending deep cleanse, and honestly it's so much more than that. I had the honor to interview the founders of Kambo International and my two master teachers, Ginny Rutherford + Steve Dumain. The two of them provide a no-bullshit approach to the benefits, experience and the facilitation of this medicine. In this episode, you'll hear: What Kambo is + where it comes from What an experience of sitting for a ceremony with Kambo looks like Dispelling the typical myths of Kambo If harvesting of the secretion harms the frog or not. Spiritual tourism and if these South American frogs will become endangered species How to find a qualified Kambo facilitator near you And more! THE SKINNY ON OUR SEXY GUESTS Ginny Rutherford is a master practitioner and principle teacher at Kambo International. She is a practitioner of Ren Xue International. She is also an advanced certified transformational life coach and an advanced student of Gnosis Tarot. She found herself in the jungle joining indigenous shamans in ceremonies using ayahuasca, a healing plant of the Amazon. Her research into ayahuasca led her discovery of kambo, and after experiencing it she felt powerfully called to this amazing secretion from the Giant Monkey Tree Frog of the Amazonian jungle. Ginny completed the International Association of Kambo Practitioners (IAKP) training in early 2015. By 2016, Ginny was assisting in trainings, and in 2017 became one of the principle teachers for the IAKP. In 2020, Ginny left the IAKP in order to create a deeper level of teaching for her students through the organization Kambo International. Its mission is to train great kambo practitioners and also to give them tools to help them uplift their own life and then help others do the same. Steve Dumain is the co founder of Kambo International. Steve would like to make Kambo something that is comfortable to approach for everyone. The jungle can be a special place to receive traditional medicines, but you will see that there is a special place for Kambo to be given as a treatment everywhere and for (almost) everybody. We all deserve deep healing. When we first heal & love ourselves, we can then heal and love each other & the entire planet on a true and profound level. Want more? National gratitude month is in the month of November, so the WMF ladies felt it was appropriate to discuss positivity and gratitude. But with that, it was necessary to discuss toxic positivity and spiritual bypassing, or in other words, suppressing your emotions for good vibes only! As we discuss walking the line between positivity and gratitude AND toxic positivity and spiritual bypassing, we also need to remember that it's okay to not be okay!Medical Disclaimer Have questions or comments for A Witch, A Mystic & A Feminist? A lot of people are talking about how to do shadow work these days, but what is it? In this episode, you'll learn why it's deeply transformational, healing self-reflection that is absolutely valuable and necessary for anyone seeking to grow and transcend on this human journey through life. Meanwhile, when you hear people talk about another buzz word, 'spiritual bypass,' they often do so in a way that kind of shames people who aren't endeavoring into this difficult work. That's why I've put these two topics together in one episode. Because skipping over the hard stuff in life and not facing the ugliness that lives inside us in order to make peace with it and release it is spiritual bypass. It's easy to sit down and journal your list of intentions or what you appreciate. And it's fun to create a vision board. But positive thinking doesn't get you to the deep, dark, gnarly place of shadow, which is desperate for your attention and love. The irony is, that deep self-love and unconditional acceptance of both the good and the bad inside each of us is what we're all yearning for. And they, in my opinion, are our keys that open the doorway to abundance and happiness. In this episode, I share some snippets of the shadow work I've done, how you can incorporate these practices into your life, ways you can begin to build a safe and loving relationship with the shadow inside you, and why it's so essential to stop trying to hide and shame her. A phenomenology of spiritual bypass: Causes, consequences, and implications. J Spiritual Ment Health. 2018;20(4):333-354. doi:10.1080/19349637.2017.1417756 ). The term was first coined during the early 1980s by a transpersonal psychotherapist named John Welwood in his book Toward a Psychology of Awakening. According to Welwood, spiritual bypassing can be defined as a "tendency to use spiritual ideas and practices to sidestep or avoid facing unresolved emotional issues, psychological wounds, and unfinished developmental tasks Ref: Tricycle. Human nature, Buddha nature. An interview with John Welwood ). As a therapist and Buddhist teacher, Welwood began to notice that people (including himself) often wielded spirituality as a shield or type of defense mechanism. Rather than working through hard emotions or confronting unresolved issues, people would simply dismiss them with spiritual explanations. While it can be a way to protect the self from harm or to promote harmony between people, it doesn't actually resolve the issue. Instead, it merely glosses over a problem, leaving it to fester without any true resolution (Ref: What Is Spiritual Bypassing, by Kendra Cherry. 12-6-20.
