POPULARITY
Even though improv had one of the longest roads back from COVID, it's back and more expansive than we remember. Sarah Claspell, a longtime celebrated veteran of improv in LA, walks us, on this week's TCB Field Report, through how that's happening both with her touring the world doing/teaching improv and co-owning the World's Greatest Improv School (affectionately pronounced WEE-gis) and the best way to take notes on improv. Jason Perez is the Artistic Director and Co-Founder of the Edinburgh International Improv Festival. Jason is a teacher with Will Hines' WGIS. You can see him perform with Billy Merritt, Julie Brister, Sarah Claspell, and Josh Simpson in The Good Leads in which they perform The Glen. Me and Jason talks about the four ways of being a better improviser, to learn something new every week and to be okay with your own comedic voice. We talk about Pirate Robot Ninja, game of the scene and the differences between teacher, director and coach. We are also talking about X-men, bank vaults and why you should be pulling out your fellow improvisers legs and shit in their mouths.

There are games we love and there are games we hate. THEN, there are games we love/hate. Today actor, improviser, and overall legend Sarah Claspell joins Conner to discuss her time with Cid Meier's Civilization V. Sarah recalls receiving a Super Nintendo as a kid, evangelizes to Conner about an incredible sounding board game, and gives us a peek at what it means to have a love/hate relationship with a video game. What a pleasure to have Improv talent on the No Outlet Podcast! I was lucky enough to take a 201 Improv class from the UCB (upright citizens brigade) and Sarah Claspell was my teacher. Teacher anything can be challenging, and she made it fun and was able to get complex concepts across in a way that made it easy to grasp and retain. Like everyone who teaches for the UCB, she has a Black Belt in taking Comedy Seriously and I am thrilled to have her on the show. We talked about the possibility of people having Psychic abilities (maybe?), how she got started in Improv, being roommates with Kate McKinnon, we determine if being a Red Sox fan is a sign of being pushy (yes!), making Terry Crews laugh, the benefits of doing improv via Zoom, her Improv "Mount Rushmore", her desert island food category and how Game Of Thrones really dropped the ball on the last season along with several other topics. It was a treat to have her on on the show (THANK YOU!) and I really hope you all enjoy the conversation as much as we did!

Wowie zowie, it's our 50th episode! It's been a blast to take this journey with all of you, and we think it was a blast to record this ep but somehow nobody really remembers doing it? It's weird, we all just sort of have a blank 48 hours in our memories. But it seems like that was when we were recording and editing this? Guess this is what happens when you set out to do a 9/11 episode. Anyway, huge thanks to all the people who apparently lent their talents to this, including: Matt Walsh, Sarah Claspell, Jon Mackey, Ele Woods, Ben Dietzel, Ryan Middledorf, Grant Martz, Sarah De La Isla, Cooper James, Clem, Maude, Michael Dean, and Alexis Preston. They were probably an absolute pleasure to have in the Lizard's Lair. Hope you like it! And... stay safe out there.
Did you know that at one point the US government was just giving out free TV's? And did you know that Siri can totally hear what you're saying at all times? Doesn't that just wig you out??? For some of us, the answer is nah. But according to our illustrious guest, actor and comedian Sarah Claspell, we should all be a little more worried about exactly what data our TV's and smart phones and wise watches are collecting. We also touch on pie thumbs, geometry, bombs, the NSA, nerds, and much much more. This episode also features a WILD cameo from our friend Alexa. Still waiting on those 100 beers.

Actor/comedian Sarah Claspell talks to us about the band Barenaked Ladies! She explains how they're funny, and great musicians, and often the creator of heartbreakers as well as bootyshakers, and that they are much more than their biggest U.S. hit "One Week," which we (thankfully, according to co-host Will) do not play! Also: Anthony discusses the Raymond Chandler novel "The Big Sleep" and Will talks about fixing his toilet.
Sarah Claspell joins Jen to talk about the plethora of mobile apps making life easier these days than it was in the dark ages before smartphones were ubiquitous. From big things like improving your health or keeping your schedule straight, to small things like saving articles to read later or browsing Reddit, that whole "there's an app for that!" thing has never been truer. But how much do we really value them if we usually don't want to spend any money on them? And how many would it actually be hard to live without at this point? Also, how long will the gardener be on the porch toward the end of the episode? Well, the answer to that last question is "not long," so don't worry. In the first half of a two part episode, guests Danny Cohen and Jon Mackey return to talk about what they were glad to see get big this year, what they'd hoped would be big in 2012 but wasn't, and what they hope to see get big in 2013. Danny also reveals his favorite character in film history, and Jon reveals the secret to putting on weight for a role. Come back next week for part two with Sarah Claspell and Scott Davis! This week, Sarah Claspell and returning guest Dickie Copeland join Jen to chat about National Novel Writing Month. They're all trying to write 50,000 words over the month of November and (spoiler alert) they're all super behind. But that's okay! They commiserate over the challenges of churning out an entire novel in 30 days, share their writing routines/rituals and the ways they developed their concepts, plus Dickie is able to give some insight about how to just get through it since she's a veteran to NaNoWriMo unlike first timers Sarah and Jen. Plus if you like Game of Thrones references and/or people calling themselves monsters, this episode is going to keep you entertained through and through.
