Ever since her first viewing of the cinematic masterpiece Twister, Vic’s love of tornados or “nades” has never stopped growing. Vic takes the Convince Me boys on a journey through tornado alley, circle clouds, and meteorology camp. Along the way we discover Ben’s personal connection to the tornado world and Thayer’s complete lack of weather knowledge. We close things out with everyone’s favorite segment Title Match that will blow you away (this phrase is funny because of the whole tornado topic). Are you the one? That’s the question Zander Frost (@zanderhfrost on the gram) asked the Convince Me boys on this week’s episode. Zander navigates us through the complicated and entertaining world of MTV’s dating show “Are You The One?”. Each week contestants are asked to find their perfect match among a pool of daters, if they find the right person they win money, if they don’t they leave with hearts broken and wallets empty. We promise you this is just the surface of this labyrinth of love! So much is thrown at these people; truth booths, dream dates, boom boom rooms, the show has it all. This is truly a an episode you will love. We also are joined by one of the show’s previous contestants, Keith, from Virginia Tech, and close things out with some rapid convincing by our guest. You didn’t ask for it, but we did it again! The third late night conceptisode episode has it all! Week-old jokes about the news, Thayer’s comedy journal, and some interviews that will make you say “wow, this has run a little long, but I’m driving so I can’t fast forward”. That’s just the tip...of the iceberg. British comedian Stephen Fry joins the program to discuss a controversial opinion about one of America’s most important days. Universal studios tour guide Brians Forkby drops in to discuss his in-depth, and quite frankly sad experience as a tour guide. Finally we’re privileged to be joined again by Nobel prize winner and incredible musician Bob Dylan. You won’t want to miss it! This week comedian, dating expert, and great human Richelle Meiss joins the podcast to get the boys on board with The Bachelor. Richelle has some unique perspectives on the dating life including: dating in LA is akin to emotional manipulation, falling in love isn’t real, and how we should all look to be with a “former fatty”. Not to be outdone with dating knowledge, Thayer proclaims himself the “last romantic in LA” and takes listeners on his ideal date with Ryan Gosling. Thayer also believes all first dates are just an opportunity to fall in love with yourself...he truly says some insane things during this episode. Lastly, Richelle offers an exclusive look into some behind the scenes contestant behavior when she recaps her live viewing of the Bachelor after show. Do the boys take the rose and become bachelor fans? Or will they be sent home sad and alone? Tune in to find out! Comedian Rose O’Shea (@ladyastronauty) thinks that the ancient Indian medicine Ayurveda can be helpful in our daily lives for everything from finding what types of foods agree with us to finding medicinal/lifestyle changes that can help disorders, such as using turmeric and reducing sugars. Along the way we discuss whether Thayer uses lotion as a food or a topical treatment, and whether soup is a drink or food. We get so deep into Ayurveda that we don’t have time to do a segment at the end. 100 episodes strong! Wow! We officially have more episodes than listeners. Hooray! In this retrospective episode Ben and Thayer take a look back at their most surprising convince, revisit some of their favorite characters, and talk with spokespeople from some of Convince Me’s most interesting advertisements. The Bug Lawyer, 100% Milk guy, and Mr. Boston make appearances that you do not want to miss, seriously you do not want to! Not only do the Convince Me boys look back, but they look forward to some of their favorite moments from the future! That’s right Ben and Thayer do yesteryear in the future, speaking with upcoming guests Obama, Marc Maron, and PBS travel guide Rick Steves. Retreat to move forward that’s what we say. Of course no retrospective would be complete without an appearance from the co-host turned enemy of the pod, Geoff Kaufman. That’s right, Geoff rejoins the pod for brief life update that is so juicy it will make a grown man cry juice. Anyway, we’re so thankful to be able to do this for 100 eps and hope for 100 more. Will Hines (@willhines) codes for fun. While he used to code as a profession for six years before becoming a comedian, and his love for computer programming and coding never left him. Ben and Thayer are real coding dummies, so Will breaks down how coding works in the language of cooking so they understand both how it works and why you might want to use it. Will shares his favorite coding languages, from Ruby to BASIC. In a new segment “I Just Ooped My Pants,” in which Ben gives Thayer, Geoff and Will a coding quiz, which is much funnier than it sounds. Comedian Jeremy Schmidt (@Ocarinaofcrime) thinks that a man getting hit by a football in the groin will always be funnier than a well-crafted joke from a respected comedian. He does not argue that there is no place for craft, but argues that the broken expectation of dumb, bad, and poorly-timed jokes provide gut laughs that supersede the heady laughs from highbrow, well-respected comedians. Along the way we hear many joke examples, tell stories of halcyon work study days, and play a new game called "Bad Improv."Follow Jeremy on twitter at @Ocarinaofcrime and check out his hilarious and inventive new podcast Reality Bits.Follow us on twitter at @ConvinceMePod and please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts, it really helps us out. It's another late night conceptisode! We bring you terrible monologue jokes, in-depth interviews, and some man-on-the-street. Extreme, insane hacker Cybergrime joins the show to discuss hacking tips and his plan for world domination. You’ve been warned! FBI Director Billings talks the biggest threat to national security and displays his obsession with microphones. We also ask the question has society gotten dumber? We go out onto Hollywood boulevard to put society’s brainpower to the test. Can the boys pull of a late night show on a podcast? Tune in to find out! August 19 2004, Justine Napsberg, was put into coma due to a silent, but deadly fart. The accused, Bart Forkman, claims he was innocent, but has trouble remembering where he was on the day of the gas explosion. In the the third installment of Serial, presented by This American Life, Sarah Koenig examines the details surround Bart Forkman and how his then girlfriend came to be in her current vegetative state. The story was brought to us by a friend of the accused. We take a detailed look into the people involved in Forkman’s conviction including his “friend”, his now deceased lawyer, and a pair of prejudice detectives. Forkman has been living out his sentence in state prison for the past 13 years. Was this a highschool romance gone bad or a series of unfortunate circumstances that lead to Bart’s downfall. Four more years! Four more years! That’s what Travis Alvarez has been chanting for William Howard Taft ever since his presidential term ended. With all due respect to number 45, Travis argues that William Howard Taft is the last great republican president. Sad! No Taft discussion would be complete without a direct comparison to Paul Ryan. That’s right, we discuss Paul Ryan’s legacy and what he was like in college, trace Taft’s family tree, and shout out to our bot listeners in Cincinnati! MYTHBUSTER ALERT! We have an intense investigation into Taft’s tumultuous history with bathtubs and if indeed he got his portly ass stuck in one. Did he? Didn’t he? You’ll have to tune in to find out what a naked Taft was up to back in his day. Travis makes a lot of people angry when he ranks his top presidents. We close things out with some presidential trivia in an intense battle of wits. Will the convince me boys build a time machine and go back in time to vote for this guy? The delightful Patrick McDonald (@patrickmcd0nald) is obsessed with the Los Angeles resident mountain lion P-22. We discuss the popularity of this celebrity feline, his diet of muledeer, raccoons and occasionally a koala (who pays us a visit), and how we should all see ourselves in P22: a displaced Mountain Lion who crossed two freeways and survived but is soldiering on in Los Angeles. We also hear a harrowing tale of Patrick encountering a pack of coyotes. Finally, we close with perhaps the most successful installation of Dolphin Chamber to date. Writer and comedian Josh Brown (@joshbrownjosh) loves the sitcom Frasier. But before we get into it we all discuss the recently-divorced single dad energy Thayer and Ben have following Geoff’s departure from the podcast. But then we get into the hit sitcom Frasier, discussing its nature as a spinoff from Cheers, the fun of seeing Frasier explode after getting so frustrated, depiction of radio and therapy on television, the cast of characters, the interplay of different social statuses and snobbery, and Frasier’s place in the hierarchy of great sitcoms. We also introduce a new musical segment that will surely re-occur, “Fras-usical the Musical.” Ben is also having a weird day in this episode and knocks over recording equipment. Geoff Kaufman has had enough of the wide-eyed optimists, the skeptics, and the wacky and woodely times. This is his last episode as co-host of Convince Me. In this episode we discuss what led Geoff to quit, how many other things he is quitting, and we get into some real heart-felt discussions of what the podcast and each other have meant to us. We also let Geoff get his last rapid-fire topics in to convince us of things like Drake. Finally, we play a lively round of title match. In a passionate attempt to win the hearts and minds of the Convince Me Boyz, verified twitter user/retired basketball champion Eileen Mary O’Connell (@i_Lean) invades the studio to talk about the greatest movie of all time: SPACE JAM. Eileen saw Space Jam opening day many moons ago and her love for the film has grown bigger than Michael Jordan’s cartoonish arm! She explains the subtleties of the film, like how aliens from Moron Mountain are stupid, and why MJ is the greatest straight man ever to grace the silver screen. Geoff tries his best to find plot holes, but Eileen’s defense is truly out of this world. Most importantly we take a visceral look into what would happen if aliens robbed the Convince Me hosts of their talents! (Hard to rob something that doesn’t exist, jk jk, we’re all friends here.) DUNK! This episode closes out with America’s favorite segment title match, you’re going to love it, or hate it, or think it’s ok. Dancing--it's not just for the stars. At least that's what Sabrina Mahoney claims on this week’s episode of your favorite podcast Convince Me! Sabrina talks about the effect dance can have on your emotion and creativity. Tiny dancer, hold me closer to my headphones because this is one episode I’ve gotta listen to! WARNING CHUNKY EPISODE! What compels the Convince Me Boys to actually follow up with a “convince”? This week we hop in the time machine and go way, way back to find the answer to exactly that question. Wouldn’t you know it, the boys actually overlap on a lot of their follow-ups! We’re talking Weezer, letters, Cleveland Cavaliers, and much more. This episode doesn’t have it all, but it has the ones we picked out specifically for this episode. There’s no other way to put it: this is the most “real” installment of “Convince Me” yet. We finally appeal to our conservative base and talk politics, follow Thayer’s path of heartbreak, and make some incredible puns with the word “vice”. Geoff introduces us to his “blow it up” writing strategy and tries to get us all on board. Not to be outdone, Ben delivers a tantalizing breakdown on what kind of people live in LA. Cars bad! Bikes good! That’s what cool, environmentally-friendly, and just friendly person Ky Guy (if you want to find out his real name, you'll have to listen!) says when it comes to alternative commuting. That’s right folks, take that car and put in the garbage because there’s a better way to get around town and it rhymes with sma-biking (the answer is biking). Along this two-wheeled journey we visit Geoff and Ky’s longboard phase, place ourselves on the sweat spectrum, and talk bike stats. Helmets are lame tho right? Not if you like living. Safety is back and it is sexier than ever on this episode. Beyond our in-depth bike style tips, we play the age-old classic game “bike, plane, train...or walk...or drive” to put Ky’s alternative commuting strategy to the test. We close things out with some bike trivia and discover a daunting secret about Geoff’s teeth brushing habits. Will Ky get the boys to remove their training wheels and ride the bike of life? Or will the boys continue to hate planet earth and watch the world burn? Tune in to find out! Or don’t! It is your choice! Comedian Carl Tart (@dammitCARL) is tired of LeBron James not getting the respect he deserves. From being blamed for every loss to people piling up online hate, Carl argues that LeBron is unfairly disrespected in the NBA and fan community. Carl takes us through his own NBA history, how LeBron singlehandedly pulled the Cavs into success, how he has never been supported like the other greats have been, and his off-court persona and sense of humor. Along the way we talk video games and the NBA 2K conspiracy against LeBron, rat tails, the Cavs' new lineup, trolls, The Decision, headbands, lack of injuries, and BizDiss. WARNING: The first 15 minutes of this podcast are dedicated to a a discussion with Nick Pilla about eating cereal with water instead of milk. After that, we talk about the city of Cleveland! Nick believes that Cleveland doesn't get enough credit. It's got everything the other cities got, and a great populace of blue collar Americans to boot. He also says that it has the second largest theater district in the US, but I (Geoff) feel like that's just some trickery with zoning. LA has a large number of Equity Waiver theaters that, when added up, probably make up a larger number of seats than whatever Cleveland has. We also talk about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Along the way we hear everyone's pet history, our thoughts on giving pets as gifts, and we get a special guest visitor, Cassi's foster-cat, Silver. This week on Convince Me, we talk to Amy Clark (@amsclr) about the horrors of the food industry! Amy shares some interesting facts, and shows us how we can change our diets to be healthier and less evil. For example, did you know when it says “all-natural” on food packaging, that means absolutely nothing? I had a feeling, but I didn’t know for sure until this episode. Along the way, we hear quite a bit about the hosts’ high school lunch routines, Geoff talks about how he farts into diapers that he changes every three days or so, and we meet Thayer’s ex who happens to be a hamburger! Curry packets, self-building tents, and bear canisters oh my! Making his triumphant return to the podcast, comedian, philanthropist, and agnostic, Andrew Lindh (@druprint) tries to UNconvince the boyz that camping is good. We open with a quick pasta poll, discuss Ben and Geoff’s go to camp meals, and flashback to Andrew’s time in the boy scouts. Andrew doesn’t stop there! He continues to speed us down memory lane when he shares a visceral tale of skipping school after a night’s sleep gone bad...very, very bad. We also learn Geoff is an award winner and often wills himself to be constipated...he just wants it to stop. Special guest appearances include East Hollywood Park Ranger Rick, and Geoff’s Dad. We close things out with a classic addition of Title Match. Will the Convince Boys collectively pitch a tent? Or leave the country lifestyle and join Andrew in the metropolis, tune in to find out! Josh Simpson (@MrJoshSimpson) wanted to talk about adoption and abortion, but we chickened out on that topic and he talked about Mushrooms instead. It's the final installment of our special series, "Rocktober but Actually Novemby (and a Little Bit of Decemby)" because Mushrooms make a music unlike any other, man. Josh first discusses the ideal mushroom situation: do it with people who are experienced, in a safe place, in a safe dosage, on Black Friday. He argues that in this ideal situation, mushrooms are can both deepen relationships and provide a catalyst for life-changing revelations. Josh views mushrooms as a sporadically-used tool to achieve these ends. In this way, Josh argues that mushrooms are not just a recreational drug for purely recreational means. Along the way we also chat about Wilco, Black Friday, hiking, institutionalism, 50 First Dates, and Songwriting. We unfortunately did not get to Josh's rap career. We also play a round of Title Match. Thayer's living the island life in Japan during this episode, so feel free to tweet at him and ask his thoughts on mushrooms. Josh Simpson is the co-host of the hilarious storytelling and improv podcast The Meat, check it out on Boardwalk Audio. You can also find Josh on stage at the Upright Citizen's Brigade LA Teacher's Show Tuesday nights at 7:00 pm. DISCLAIMER: We do not endorse consuming Mushrooms. Be careful out there eating fungi! Please rate and review us on Apple Podcasts, or even better, tell a friend about this episode! We love you all, and it's not just the mushrooms talking. One of our Convince Me favorites Mike Cullen (@mcpops) is back, and he brought his best Canadian guy Tyler Twiss as a guest! This week, Mike's talking about rock musician Sun Kil Moon. That's right, it's Part II of our special series, "Rocktober but Actually Novemby (and a Little Bit of Decemby)". Mike attempts to get us to embrace the melancholy by sharing a few highlights from Kil Moon's discography. We also address some of Kil Moon's "bad boy" behavior. Will it cause the boys to give him a Convince Me No? Listen and find out. Warning: we pre-recorded the commercials today so they're a little long-winded! This is the first episode of Rocktober in Novemby and a little in Decemby, so you know we’re gonna rock out! Matt Apodaca (@MattApodaca) loves the rock band Weezer. Ben and Thayer are aware of them, but have no idea about most of the music, but are eager to hear it! Geoff’s on vacation. Matt takes us through almost all of Weezer’s discography from Self-Titled to Self-Titled (Weezer has a lot of self-titled albums), sampling some of the tracks we love, and cool deep cuts we weren’t aware of. We also hear about who was president during different Weezer eras and how that affects lyrical content. Matt is a very funny, and incredibly passionate about Weezer, which makes this episode a real good time. Follow Matt Apodaca on Twitter @MattApodaca, and check him out on Harold Night at UCB Los Angeles with the improv comedy team PONY. Matt is also “sponsored” by Jolly Rancher, and wants you to remember to Keep on Sucking. Follow Convince Me @ConvinceMePod and tell a friend if you like the show! Szzzzzz. You know what that sound means, Alfred Aquino hops on the pod this week to talk about—you guessed it—Sizzler. Is this Doughboys? No, it’s still Convince Me. Alfred claims that Sizzler has more options than all the other buffet chains (e.g. Souplantation), with the same or even better quality! I (Geoff) think that violates the basic principles of Economics. Along the way, Ben tries to make the episode about skateboarding, we have yet another freestyling character walk in, and Thayer learns what a salad bar is. Check out Alfred’s sketch team The New Deal at UCB the first Wednesday of every month, and follow him on IG at alfredzass. Hyperlinks! Do you reuse plates at a buffet? Can James Franco carry a movie? What kind of froyo would he eat? Did he actually lose his arm for 127 hours? We answer all these questions and much more when fellow Boardwalk Audioer, and cool human being, Kelly Mcinerney (@hollyweirdo) arrives at the studio to convince the Boyz to become full-blown Francofiles. Geoff throws a party, our humor becomes predictable, and Niles from One Direction makes an unwanted surprise appearance. Sounds like a fun episode, it is, but it gets even more fun when we take a deep dive into James Franco trivia, discuss our ideal relationships with JF, and pitch an original movie with Kelly’s favorite leading actor. We close things out with one of the most popular segments ever created, Thayer’s Comedy Journal, the TCJ if you will. Things get a little sad when we look at Geoff’s dating life but we get to more fun stuff I swear. Tune in, turn on, and get ready for the ride of your life. First off, Happy Halloween! Secondly, this week Alyssa Sabo (@alyssa_sabo) joins us to talk about sending letters, cards, and in-class notes to loved ones. In a way, this description is a letter to you, our beloved audience. Along the way talk about writing letters for love, writing letters to a little ol' man by the name of G-o-d, and writing letters for your own emotional well-being. Incredibly vulnerable. For some reason this topic leads to a lot of talk about our high school years, so if you've ever wondered what that was like for us, this episode is for you! For example, Geoff had four (4) girlfriends before he even turned 21. Check out Alyssa's team Shimmy! at UCB on many Sundays: https://ucbtheatre.com/performance/36235. "Tell 'em Convince Ya sent ya!" Comedian and writer Eileen Soong (@eileensoong) went down a YouTube rabbit hole watching mukbang. Mukbang are videos of people eating large amounts of food while talking to their audience. We watch a few fun mukbang videos, and learn about what makes them captivating, from curing loneliness to odd food combinations. We also hear about Geoff’s unconventional eating habits, including his actual, real-life practice of sliding meat down his throat like some sort of bird. Also, listen closely to Thayer in this episode, he claims that “something is afoot” with his brain. If you have any diagnostic insight, please let us know. Check out Eileen’s sketch group Illuminaughty by Nature on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/IBNcomedy/ or on instagram @IBNComedy. They are legit hilarious. Please rate and review us on iTunes. This week Sarah Claspell (@claspy) sells us on the search for extraterrestrial life, although she makes it clear that she doesn't care whether we're convinced. We discuss the X-Files, government cover-ups, and pass judgement people who claim UFO sightings (including Ben's wife's brother!). If you're listening to this episode at a Convince Me listening party, make sure everyone downloads a copy separately so that our ratings are accurate! Check out Sarah on IG and TwitWorld under the screenname @claspy, and see her show Cardinal Redbird is So LA at UCB Franklin Tuesdays @ 11! Why do we have to keep on say it to you. Vintage wines are expensive. Vintage cinemas however, are an affordable and transportive experience into the past according to Courtney Sevener (@c7er). That’s right, Courtney throws it back on the pod to get the boyz on board with her love for the old theater experience. We start things off with some horrible jokes about goats, take a deep-dive into Geoff’s frugal approach to popcorn, and learn Thayer is a posh boy who enjoys the finer things in life. Ben and Geoff really jive on this one. If you’re still reading this episode description, then you’ll be excited to know we talk about courtesy when it comes to yelling in a movie theater. Lastly, after 70 episodes it seems the boyz should really know their own voices and personalities, but we put this to test with our new segment “Allow ourselves to introduce ourselves”. Will the boyz be recording their next ep in a vintage state? Or will they continue to be pompous rich holes. Tune in to find out! For more from the hilarious Courtney follow her @c7er on Twitter or check out “Fuck This Week” the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month at IO West 8pm - main stage. Allison Gilbert (@allisonWynifred) is back today to convince you that the Friends characters Joey and Rachel would have made an ideal couple. Sure, most people wanted Ross and Rachel to end up together, but Allison is not most people! A Soap Opera star or a Paleontologist, what is better? We discuss what makes a good couple, the histories of Ross, Rachel, and Joey, and what friend we see ourselves as—including innovative new friend hybrid types. We also discuss whether perhaps Rachel would have been best off staying single in Paris as a fashion designer with her child, and how annoying Ross’s son Ben was. We also talk about how strangely close the Ross and Monica sibling relationship was and if it is akin to the Gyllenhalls. Finally, we run down a pro/con list of Ross and Joey’s attributes and scientifically decide who was a better suitor for Rachel. Is it Gunther? Listen to find out. This episode ends with a great segment of “Conspire Me,” Allison’s celebrity conspiracy theory roundup, complete with spooky music. She discusses the new Kardashian pregnancy in depth and Geoff has some hot takes. Follow Allison on twitter @AllisonWynifred and check out Allison’s website RocketteWomen.com which features a diverse array of stories written by women about topics from sexuality to pop culture. They say banana, they’re yellow, and they like butts, no we’re not talking about the Convince Boyz, we’re talking about Minions! Jarred McAdam blesses us with his presence to explain the on planet earth there is no on within 100 miles that doesn’t know about minions. We take a deep dive into Minions marketing, origins, and debate what it means to be evil. Are minions making evil too fun?? Geoff pumps himself up about his past tweets, we talk costume ideas, and hate on the Smurfs. We also reveal a way to test if you are dealing with an AI! We close things out by letting the world know in everyone’s favorite angry segment “What’s Cheesing You Off?”. Will the Convince Me Boyz be banana’d? Tune in to find out! A weekend filled with music, good food, and best friends. Sounds like it wouldn’t need convincing right? Well it does for these curmudgeons! This week, Ella Jenkin joins the ‘cast this week to talk about Music Festivals. The gang really picks it apart and breaks it down--is a music festival worth the time and money? What are the personal hygiene implications? Is it really like a hundred concerts for the price of six? Along the way, Geoff reveals his favorite Convince Me co-host (it’s Ben), and we get a visit from Skittle, the British version of Eminem. U gunna miss out on that?? Check out Ella’s professional IG at ellajenkin (camera emoji) Also maybe here’s something you can do: rate and review us on iTunes (we might read your review on the air...), follow on Twitter (@ConvinceMePod), or email us with questions/suggestions at convincemepodcast@gmail.com! In a new segment "I Just Ooped My Pants," in which Ben gives Thayer, Geoff and Will a coding quiz, which is much funnier than it sounds. Who wins? THE RESULTS ARE SURPRISING. Follow Will Hines @willhines on twitter, and check out his excellent music podcast "Screw It We're Just Gonna Talk About the Beatles." We would really appreciate it if you could take a minute to rate and review us on iTunes, and tell a friend about this podcast. Thanks! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Mikey McCollor (@MikeyMcCollor) loves wrestling so much he did it! What is this, an episode of “You Should Love Wrestling?” No, it’s Convince Me. Check your podcast titles, sheesh. Mikey takes the guys through his favorite moments, from Stone Cold Steve Austin’s “heel turn” from a “babyface” to a “heel” (this episode is rife with delicious lingo) to CM Punk’s gradual changes. Along the way we hear of Mikey’s own experience as a professional wrestler and get a front row seat to some of his pre-match banter. Mikey is really passionate about wrestling and it shows. We also learn a weird way to intimidate people in the same way that Stone Cold Steve Austin did—incessantly saying the word “what.” We also play a fun round of First Impressions, and talk about what Geoff must be sounding like while he’s in New York, Baby. Follow Mikey on twitter @MikeyMcCollor. Rate and review us on iTunes if you can, and check out our page on Boardwalk Audio. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Put on your harness and keep your hands inside the vehicle, 'cause this week Travis Rust (@etravisrust) joins us to talk about Roller Coaster Tycoon! The ep gets to a slow start, but once we get past an extended conversation about water shoes we really do get into it. Travis outlines all of the quirks of the original 1999 installment. For example, did you know that every NPC in that game is a single 30 year old man? (Fun fact, that’s also Convince Me’s primary demo!) Along the way, Travis and Thayer share stories about growing up without TV/videogames and how that makes them better than the rest of us. We also get a visit from an actual Roller Coaster Tycoon character, who gets stuck in an A.I. loop and nearly explodes…. his bowels. Look at us, getting into some Sci-Fi! Or is it SyFy now? It’s linked above, but just in case you missed it you can check out Travis on Twitter at twitter.com/etravisrust. Leave your prestige dramas and raunchy sitcoms at the door, this week stand-up/online comedy person Candace Carrizales (@candacesucks) joins us to talk about shows aimed at kids ages 9-16! She claims that some kids shows (does Degrassi ring a bell?) have some real merit, and that they can be a form of art just as much as any prestige drama or raunchy sitcom you might see on TV. She also talks about laughing at the bad shows, but that's just disrespectful. Along the way, Geoff and Candace feud about a dinner planning mix-up, Thayer talks about how he watches documentaries, and the gang develops their very own sitcom (spoilers: it's The Office, but with kids instead of adults). So leave your prestige dramas and raunchy sitcoms behind and check it out! Check out Candace's YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/HunanPenguin Oh, and... Convince Me joins Boardwalk Audio! Yay!! To celebrate the occasion we’re joined by comedian, actor, filmaker, and handsome devil Ben Kaplan (@TheBenKaplan) who tries to get the Convince Me boyz to give bad movies a chance. We take a critical look at such cinematic garbage as The Room, Transformers, the cult classic ThanksKilling and so much more. Geoff shows off his vocabulary, Ben discusses his favorite kind of gum, and Thayer needs friends. We close things out with the return of the Dolphin Chamber [cue dolphin noise] with a product pitch that may have you calling the cops. If that doesn’t get you excited you’re dead inside. Will the boys be convinced to watch Kaplan’s bad movies recommendations? You’ll have tune in to find out. Comedian and Convince Me Resident Scholar Alex Berg returns to educate us on the wonders of sperm whales. He covers a lot about sperm whales from diet (gross), to cultural references, to colonial whaling practices, to whether Noah got eaten by one. It's a fun and educational episode! As a bonus we also learn about quantum entanglement, teleportation, and RNA editing in cephalopods. This might be the smartest sounding description I have ever written for this podcast. Finally, we play a legendary round of "First Impressions" and hear Berg's take on fellow comedian Dan Lippert. Check out Alex Berg at the UCB LA Theatre every week with the teams Convoy and Sentimental Lady. WTF is a podcast famous for its raw, unfiltered conversations between some of comedy's biggest stars. So it's no surprise M. Maron asked the Convince Me team to cover for this week's episode! Ben updates us on his travels, and talks about a recent beef with Aziz Ansari. Comedy's own Roast-Master-in-Chief Ron McCarrigan stops by, and Maron's cat Mr. Peeves makes a first time appearance on the show. The three talk about the lifestyle of a comedian, meetings with Lauren Michaels, and maybe exchange a few roasts along the way... Check out Ron's show Mailroom on NBC, Tuesdays at 10. Check out Andrew Grace on instagram @AndrewPGrace and check out Loserlebrities, the improv team Andrew is on with Ben and Thayer, Loserlebrities on Facebook www.facebook.com/LoserLebrities.
