We are here with actor, singer, and entertainer Roslyn Kind. You Might Know Her From: The Look of Love/The Island, 3 From Brooklyn, The Nanny, I'm Going to Be Famous, Ladies of the House, Gimme a Break, and her over 50-year illustrious recording career. We talked to Roslyn about signing to RCA Records as just a 17-year-old girl, lampooning her famous sister Barbra Streisand in an iconic episode of The Nanny, and her latest projects that retells two of her signature songs into a short film. Roslyn also gave us the goods on blood harmony with her mother and Babs, her British invasion influences, the challenge of making “People” hers in her Broadway debut, and set the record on her theatrical credits because you know You Might Know Her is always going to dig some old shet up. This was just a beautiful Roslyn Kind-shaped bow to close out 2024, our year of Barbra, after reading her 900-page magnum opus. Rozzie, we love you. Maybe the production values aren't the best, and maybe the story is grittier than most, but these little gems have provided hours of viewing pleasure to so many. These films also had great leading men in them. Studly, sturdy, reliable actors who might not be GARY COOPER or CARY GRANT or CLARK GABLE, but were handsome and talented and knew how to beat up the bad guys and win over the lovely leading lady. As an homage to the leading men of the B's, this week, we'll take a look at the lives an careers of five of our favorites. We're idealists here at This Was A Thing, and what's more idealistic than the American Dream? And if there's one person who personifies that embodies that dream to a tee, it's this week's subject. A man who pulled himself up by his own bootstraps, as well as by the wheelchair handles of his much older spouse, and who went to extraordinary lengths to secure his legacy: becoming one of the most notorious gold-diggers in modern history.Rob teaches Ray and Daniel all about the unconventional marriage between Mr. Mark Harris and Colonel Martha “Maggie” Raye; Mr. Harris's history of dabbling in everything from cosmetology to producing for Eddie Fisher; Martha's risqué adventures with ThWAT-favorite Skip E. Lowe; Howard Stearn's role in elevating Mark Harris's status and notoriety; the denture cleaner that we should all be using; Martha's rocky relationship with her daughter; and what ultimately happened to this unconventional marriage that captured the attention of the public and the tabloids. If you like what we're doing, please support us on Patreon, or you can subscribe to our bonus content on Apple Podcasts. Late-night TV celebrity interviews are fun diversions, but when Hollywood needs real, gritty, hard-hitting journalism, there's only one man for the job. And if it takes mispronouncing every single name in the business, then honey, he's way ahead of you. Rob teaches Ray about Sammy LaBella, a.k.a. Skip E. Lowe, whose dreams of stardom led him to befriend, interview, and/or bed more Hollywood personalities than most people probably know exist; how public access TV is the gift that keeps on giving; call-in show mishaps; early hot takes on the Donald; and why no star has shone brighter (mostly because he sweeps it himself) than Skip. I'm kicking off a month of Spooky Nuances with the 1950 film noir classic “In a Lonely Place,” a tense and twisted vehicle for superstars Humphrey Bogart and Gloria Grahame that also features a face journey by actress Jeff Donnell as the suspicious Sylvia, the amazing Hadda Brooks as a lounge singer who gets a Moment, and Martha the no nonsense masseuse. We wrap things up with an unmissable interview Donnell did with Skip E Lowe that features my new favorite Barbara. Skip E. Lowe interview: https://youtu.be/Wn8f7tVUrVQ Get in touch with me! Fred Otash, legendary Hollywood vice cop and private eye once known affectionately as “Mr. O,” being interviewed by Skip E. Lowe. This podcast is part of an out-take from the in-progress Skip E. Lowe Documentary. The colorful Otash, who had just completed a book titled “Marilyn, Kennedy and Me” about the death of Marilyn Monroe, died Monday in his West Hollywood home of natural causes. A heavy smoker, he had been troubled for the last decade with emphysema and high blood pressure. Otash kept silent for decades about his activities on Aug. 5, 1962, the night of Monroe’s mysterious suicide. But in 1985, he told the Los Angeles Times that actor Peter Lawford had hurriedly hired him that midnight to “do anything to remove anything incriminating” to the actor’s brothers-in-law, President John F. Kennedy and U.S. Sen. Robert F. Kennedy. Both Kennedys had been rumored to have romantic liaisons with Monroe. Otash died at the age of 70. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/romeo-carey/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/romeo-carey/support

Skip E. Lowe, who hosted a weekly celebrity talk show in Los Angeles for more than 35 years, well-known personalities to appear on the TV program, usually in the twilight of their careers. But the ever-ebullient, sometimes befuddled Lowe — who was the inspiration for the Martin Short comic character Jiminy Glick Still, Lowe, who long struggled to find his niche in show business, did the bare-bones program week after week. “He was on television,” his friend and publicist Alan Eichler said, “and he never gave up thinking something big was going to happen.” Skip E. Lowe passed away in 2014. George Albert "Scotty" Bowers was an American Writer who was a United States Marine and, from the 1940s to the 1980s, a Hollywood pimp. Stories of his exploits circulated for many years and were alluded to in books such as Hollywood Babylon. Bowers’ claims were met with both praise and skepticism. Scotty wrote his life story in his book, "Full Service" which was a best seller.
