The You Might Know Her From podcast is a delightful podcast hosted by Anne Rodeman and Damian Bellino. It was recommended to me through the algorithm on Instagram, and I am so glad that I discovered it. Despite the lack of privacy caused by social media algorithms, this podcast has been a shining gem that I can't get enough of. The hosts delve into old Hollywood drama, engage in great conversations, and take deep dives into movies or shows that I may have forgotten about or am discovering for the first time. It's an all-around entertaining and informative podcast that keeps me hooked.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the friendship between Anne and Damian. Their dynamic is evident in every episode and their banter adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the conversations. They have a genuine chemistry that shines through, making it a delight to listen to them each week. Additionally, their interviews with women in the entertainment industry are top-notch. They bring exceptional research to each interview and delve into topics that are not often discussed elsewhere. The stories shared by their guests are hilarious, moving, and surprising, providing listeners with unique insights into the lives of these talented actresses.
While there aren't many downsides to this podcast, one possible critique could be the lack of privacy due to social media algorithms. It's unfortunate that privacy has become such an issue in today's digital age, but it's a small price to pay for discovering hidden gems like The You Might Know Her From podcast.
In conclusion, The You Might Know Her From podcast is a must-listen for anyone who loves entertainment and women in the industry. Anne and Damian create an inviting atmosphere where listeners feel like they're part of incredible off-the-cuff conversations with amazing artists. Their well-researched interviews lead to captivating stories that entertain and educate. This podcast is a true gem in the entertainment world and I highly recommend giving it a listen.
Achoo! We're falling in love with the one and only Faith Prince. You Might Know Her From Modern Family, Emily in Paris, Melissa & Joey, Spin City, My Father the Hero, The Last Dragon, and Broadway productions of Guys & Dolls, A Catered Affair, Bells Are Ringing, and BOOP! Faith talked to us about grounding her character, Valentina, in the cartoonish plot of BOOP!, coping with fame during her star-making turn in Guys & Dolls, and leaning on her co-star Gerard Depardieu in one of her first leading roles on camera in My Father the Hero. Faith also shared stories from working as a Broadway replacement in the cumbersome costume of Ursula in The Little Mermaid and the notoriously “realistic” production of Anne as Miss Hannigan. All that, plus working with theatre legends like Jerome Robbins, Abe Burrows, Betty Comden & Adolph Green, doing dialect work at Joey Lawrence and Lily Collins, doing her best Cyndi Lauper in cult fave The Last Dragon (and making pals with Berry Gordy, and working with Jean Smart and Mary McDonnell in the short-lived High Society. I wasn't in Speed! It's Pride and we're proud to be here with Veronica Cartwright. You Might Know Her From Alien, The Witches of Eastwick, The Birds, The Children's Hour, Will & Grace, The Right Stuff, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Inserts, and The X-Files. Veronica talked to us about her proper role in the queer canon byway of the Scissor Sisters, Jerry Herman, and StraightJacket; the trans retcon via James Cameron of Lambert in Alien; and her performance in the old Hollywood lesbian film The Children's House opposite Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine. And that's just the beginning! We also got to dig into her iconic roles on The X-Files as an abductee in one of the scariest arcs of all time, her rubber-faced scene-stealing scenes in The Witches of Eastwick, working with Alfred Hitchock...multiple times, and her criminally underseen performance in Inserts. This month we're just wild about Siobhan Fallon Hogan. You Might Know Her From Men In Black, Forrest Gump, Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, The House That Jack Built, Shelter in Solitude, Rushed, Holes, Seinfeld, and Saturday Night Live. Siobhan gave us all the goods: from iconic dialect work in your favorite movies to her years-long collaborations with Lars von Trier. Siobhan spilled on doing bits while performing in Shakespeare in the Park, having fart competitions with Ben Gazzara on the set of Dogville, and getting horrifically killed by Matt Dillon in The House That Jack Built. We also got to talk about her turn as a screenwriter of two indie films: Rushed and Shelter in Solitude (both avail to stream now), and how her Catholic values inform all her work. A true delight from start to finish! Just feel better knowing that Lauren Bacall once asked, “Will we ever work again?” and know you are not alone! Love you mean it! Also, please note we recorded this before we both texted each other “O.J. Simpson is dead!” so yeah, O.J. Simpson is dead and maybe we conjured it by talking about his acting and prison work. Judy, Judy, Judy! We're just mad about Judy Reyes. You Might Know Her From Birth/Rebirth, Claws, Scrubs, The Horror of Dolores Roach, Smile, Bringing out the Dead, One Day at a Time, and Devious Maids. We talk to Judy all about her Indie Spirit-nominated turn in the indie horror Birth/Rebirth which is a little Frankenstein, a little Thelma & Louise, a little Whatever Happened to Baby Jane–we highly recommend it! Judy takes us through the psychology of playing a grieving mother, acting opposite a child and a pig, and grounding the horror elements. Then, we dig deep into her oeuvre from playing Carla Espinosa for eight seasons on Scrubs to playing gay as Quiet Ann (no -e) in one of the best female ensembles on television on Claws. All that plus, coming in to elevate a horror flick like Smile, headlining the candy-coated Marc Cherry/Eva Longoria dark comedy Devious Maids, and forming a community with other Latina actors in this horrific (we hate but love it) industry. Hello slayers! We're back with *another* very special episode of the show. SAG is still on strike so we are movie-clubbing 1992's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, directed by Fran Rubel Kuzui and written by Joss Whedon. We get into the megawatt stardom of Luke Perry, Kristy Swanson's surprising singing voice and engaged body during “stunts,” and Hilary Swank as a popular girl. We also get into the delicio us cameos from recent topic, gossip columnist Liz Smith as well as Easter eggs about the high schools used for filming, the end credit song, and everything we could find out about Michele Abrams and Natasha Gregson-Wagner. The awful truth is SAG is still on strike but the bonus is that we are joined by artist and former celebrity gossip writer Ted Casablanca (Bruce Bibby) for an extra special episode of the show. Ted was a mainstay in celebrity journalism in the ‘90s and ‘00s working for Premiere and E!, most notably his programs, The Gossip Show and his column-turned show, The Awful Truth. What if we had a Patreon? That's what we're exploring this week as we continue to stand in solidarity with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA. In lieu of a new actor interview we're book clubbing 1979's Norma Rae starring Sally Field, Beau Bridges, and Ron Leibman. Norma Rae is inspired by the real story of mill workers unionizing in rural North Carolina. We get into all the important parts: Ron Leibman being hot, Burt Reynolds advising Sally not to do the film, and the beautiful appearance of legendary character actress Grace Zabriskie in a small role. The film is a small quiet human story about the importance of labor unions and it felt like the right time to correct our blindspot and screen it. Also discussed this episode: the Debra Winger-Barbra Hershey led film A Dangerous Woman, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Mandy Patinkin vs. Toni Collette. Abbey?) before recurring as Sheila Brooks. The juice is good in this one, hunnies. Stephanie D'Abruzzo is our first Muppeteer. You Might Know Her From Avenue Q, Sesame Street, Elmo's World, Oobi, Scrubs, and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Stephanie talked to us about training herself to become a Muppeteer, joining the Broadway community (and scoring a Tony nom) for playing Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut in Avenue Q, inheriting the iconic role of Prairie Dawn on Sesame Street, and playing Virginia Woolf-level darkness as Kimmy's backpack Jan S. Port on Kimmy Schmidt. Plus, performing on the floor while Patti Labelle wailed the “ABCs,” phasing Betty Lou out, carrying the musical episode of Scrubs on her shoulders, and sorta playing Chita Rivera's track in Jerry's Girls.
