Living in St. Catharines, an inventor with over 100 inventions, Rick Spicer claims that he will be running in the next federal election as Prime Minister of Canada. Rick says that when he is Prime Minister, he will not take a salary as PM, he will not live in the official PM residence, he will pit the cost of gas to $0.80 per liter, free electricity, free home phones and he wants to change the face of the Canadian political scene. He says that he is just a common person, and he has little knowledge about the workings of politics, especially the things that a PM can and cannot do, has no idea about the working of the different levels of government - but at least he wants to try and make a difference. REL-MAR McConnell Media Company – Transcript The ‘X' Zone Radio/TV Show – Thursday, August 28, 2025 Happy Retirement Gord - Segment 1- 00:00.00 – 06:23.385 “Here on The ‘X' Zone Radio Show, while we broadcast internationally to listeners across Canada, the United States, and around the world, right here on your Home Town Radio, Classic 1220 AM – CFAJ from our broadcast studios in St. Catharines, Ontario, it's important to take time to celebrate the people in our own community who make a lasting difference in our daily lives. Today, we celebrate Gord, the manager of Shoppers Drug Mart at 125 Carlton Street here in St. Catharines, who is retiring after beginning his career with Shoppers Drug Mart back in 1978. Now, let's take a moment to remember what Canada looked like when Gord first put on his Shopper's Drug Mart badge. In 1978, Pierre Elliott Trudeau was our Prime Minister. The Toronto Blue Jays had just played their second Major League Baseball season. Terry Fox was training quietly for what would become his heroic Marathon of Hope. Anne Murray was topping the music charts, and Canadians were gathering around their TVs to watch Hockey Night in Canada, cheering on legends like Guy Lafleur and the Montreal Canadiens, who would go on to the Stanley Cup that year. Through all those decades of Canadian history, Gord has been a constant with kindness, professionalism, and a friendly smile at Shoppers Drug Mart. His leadership and dedication, along with the entire Shoppers team, have made that store a true pillar of the community. On behalf of all the friendly and dedicated staff at Shoppers Drug Mart, the friends you have made, the customers that you have helped, everyone here at The ‘X' Zone Radio/TV Show, my wife Laura and myself, Gord, we all want to thank you. Thank you for always being there for our family, and for families in St. Catharines that have met you, and have been customers at your Shoppers Drug Mart in the Lake and Carlton Plaza. Gord, as you step into retirement after nearly half a century of service, we all wish you nothing but health, happiness, and well-earned relaxation. Gord, congratulations on an extraordinary career — and thank you for being part of our lives since 1978.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-x-zone-radio-tv-show--1078348/support.Please note that all XZBN radio and/or television shows are Copyright © REL-MAR McConnell Meda Company, Niagara, Ontario, Canada – www.rel-mar.com. Usually in a Poltergeist case, we're lucky if we have two witnesses to rub together. But when Bob Crawford was called out to investigate a domestic disturbance in 1970 in Ontario, he had no idea he was going to stumble into one of the best documented poltergeist cases in Canadian history. Soon, the entire town would be gathered at 237 Church Street, and the residents inside would be fighting for their lives...Follow us on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTubeJoin our Secret Society Facebook CommunitySupport us on Patreon.com/ThisParanormalLife to get access to weekly bonus episodes!Buy Official TPL Merch! - thisparanormallife.com/storeIntro music by www.purple-planet.comEdited by Philip Shacklady Hosted on Acast. The small Jewish community in St. Catharines, Ont., is marking a significant milestone this week. Exactly 100 years ago, on Sept. 14, 1924, two cornerstones were laid for the foundation of what would become the current building housing Congregation B'nai Israel synagogue. The event was front-page news at the time. No one could have predicted that, a century later, city council would vote to designate the synagogue building an important heritage property, proving the contribution of the city's Jewish community to civic life. Getting that heritage label has been a key part of Howard Slepkov's plan to secure the future of the house of worship where he is president, and which has been the spiritual home to his family dating back three generations. Slepkov, an author and professor, was also over the moon when more than 300 people filled St. Catharines' performing arts centre on Aug. 25 for the synagogue's centennial concert, with performances by renowned cantors and a local klezmer band. And there's more to come, as efforts are underway to raise enough money to keep the shul's lights on—even if it turns into a museum some day. On today's episode of The CJN Daily, we're joined by Slepkov, whose grandparents were among the community's founding Jewish families, and also by Bernice Caplan, 92, who has lived in St. Catharines since she arrived as a teenager 74 years ago. Happy Monday, Fabulous Listener! It's a hot summer day here in Texas and I hope you are doing amazing. We have a fabulous guest this evening for us. The talented Mr. Don Sawyer is sharing his new book with us, The Burning Gem. An educator and writer, Don grew up in Michigan and move to Canada in the 1960s, where he more or less flunked out of his PhD program in Modern Chinese History at the University of British Columbia. This turned out to be a blessing as it opened up a world of opportunity and experiences. From teaching in a small Newfoundland outport to training community workers in West Africa; to teaching adults on a First Nations community in British Columbia to designing a climate change action course for Jamaican youth, he has worked with youth and adults from many backgrounds. Inevitably, these experiences have made their way into his writing. Don has authored over 12 books, including two Canadian bestsellers. His articles and op-eds have appeared in many journals and most of Canada's major dailies. He currently lives in St Catharines, Ontario, with Jan Henig Sawyer, his wife of 55 years. To learn more about the fabulous Mr. Don, check out his website at www.donsawyer.org. Thank you for joining us this evening. Always a pleasure bringing you new books from incredible authors. If you are enjoying the podcast and would like to stay in touch, subscribe. You don't want to miss a single episode. Happy Listening, DC
