Once April arrives, family calendars are inevitably flooded with school exams, spring sports, band concerts and dance recitals, and a whirlwind of other end-of-school-year obligations. Even if our days are full of good things, this hectic time of the year can make us feel tired, stressed, and disconnected from God and one another. Our guest—a busy homeschool mom of three—can certainly relate to this sentiment. ONLY LOVE by Jordan Smith[VERSE 1]How much more are we gonna take? How many nights do we have to lie awake? How many tears are we gonna cry?We can wish until the well runs dry[PRE-Chorus]But what happens when the sky above runs out of every single shooting star? And what if every good intentions only meant to go so far?[Chorus]Only love, only love can save us nowKeep the world from burning down, down, down. To the ground, ground, groundOnly love, can look inside a human heartAnd see us for who we areAnd we are would be enoughIf only there was only loveOnly loveOnly loveOnly love[VERSE 2]How many lessons have we really learned? How many bridges could we've crossed instead of burned? Why do we find it hard to forgiveAre we so blinded that's its easy to forget
No More MasqueradeColossians 3:7-9 "That's how you once behaved, characterized by your evil deeds. But now it's time to eliminate them from your lives once and for all – anger, fits of rage, all forms of hatred, cursing, filthy speech, and lying. Lay aside your old Adam self with its masquerade and disguise.”There were two things I liked about these verses this morning. The first is that they tell us it is time to eliminate certain behaviors from our lives once and for all. These behaviors are anger, fits of rage, all forms of hatred, cursing, filthy speech, and lying. I was drawn to this because those are things I think we would all get rid of if we could. I don't think any one of us likes being angry or having fits of rage. Many would love to give up hatred, cursing, filthy speech, and lying too. However, it is what we know. We might think it is who we are. If this is the case, then how do we give these things up? How do we stop doing something that we feel has become part of who we are?The first step in changing anything is acknowledging the need for change. If we don't think anything needs to change, then nothing will change. Once you realize something needs to change, your brain will subconsciously start to think of ways it can help you change. However, that doesn't mean you will implement these new changes immediately. It often takes us a while to make changes, especially if there are changes in things that we have done or have not done for a while. For instance, I know I need to work out every day. I want to work out, and yet I can't seem to fit it into my schedule. It takes time to change things about ourselves. We can't just stop doing the thing we want to change. We need to replace that behavior with another behavior. For instance, if we usually curse when we are mad, we will need to find something else to do instead. This will be much more effective than just trying to stop doing it altogether. My dad used to tell us this when we were younger. He would try to tell us that we should pick a replacement for the bad words we would get into trouble for saying. Then, when we would say the bad word, immediately after saying it, we would say the word we wanted to replace it with. This seemed to work for us, at least a little. How do we stop getting angry, though? How do we stop experiencing rage? I don't think the people who experience them do it because they want to. I think the people want to act this way; they just can't help it. I think the solution to this is to live more intentionally. We need to be proactive instead of reactive. We need to go through life deciding how we want to act instead of just reacting to everything that happens. My kids used to push my buttons like it was their job. They knew just what to say to make me yell or get really upset. I would get so mad and occasionally would say things I didn't mean but felt like I couldn't help it. However, I finally learned how to resist reacting negatively to their words or their actions that were meant to upset me. If I can do it, you can too. It was not easy, but it is doable! Which thing listed in this verse is something you need to stop doing? The second thing I liked about these verses is when they say, “Lay aside your old Adam self with its masquerade and disguise.” Adam and Eve brought sin into this world, and it was shared with all of us. However, Jesus brought that sin to the cross so that we could be a different person. Why are we still acting like our old selves, full of sin and shame? Also, why are we hiding ourselves? When I saw the last line in this verse today, it made me think of a song. I know you are not surprised, as I tend to always think of songs. However, there is a song that talks about how we are all masquerading and what if we just took our masks off. I believe that is what this verse is calling us to do.The song I thought of is called Cages by We the Kingdom. Here are the lyrics. What if I got real honest? What if I took a risk? What if I opened up my heartAnd let you see in?What if I took my mask off?Trying to fit inI don't wanna be a mannequinWhat if we took our masks off? What if we were just who God created us to be? What if we let go of all the anger, fits of rage, hatred, cursing, filthy speech, and lying? Why do we do those things anyway? Do we enjoy them, or is it so that we will fit in with those around us? Do we do it so we will feel normal? What if I let my guard down? What if I took a breath? What if I wasn't perfect? What if I was just a mess? What if I bled my soul outGivin' all I could give? What if we let our guard down? What if we weren't always trying to be perfect? What if we just let the world see us for the mess that we really are? Would that really be so bad? Can you imagine how freeing it would be to just feel comfortable being yourself? That is what this verse is calling you to do. Stop pretending and just be you.I'm so tired of pretendingI'm comin' out of my cagesI'm steppin' down from my stagesI'm sick and tired of faking itWhat I wouldn't give to be knownWhat I wouldn't give to be knownHow great would it be to be known just as you are? How great would it be to have people really see you, the you that you truly are? What if I got new armor? What if I swung my sword? What if I face my demonsLike I've never done before? What if I hung my banner? What if I chose a side? What if I knew I couldn't lose this time? What if this new armor the song is talking about is your new way of living? What if this new armor is the armor of God? What if you stopped all the things that God doesn't want you to do and embraced this new way of living? This way of living where you get to be you, and you don't feel you have to fit in anymore. God created us to live in this world but not be of this world.Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless everyone listening to this episode. Lord, we want to eliminate the behaviors of our old selves and live the life you want us to live. We need your help, Lord. Some of these behaviors we have done for a long time now, and we feel as though we can't give them up. However, we know all things are possible through you, so we ask for your help. We love you, Lord, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus's holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. "In The Early Morning Rain"Written by Gordon Meredith Lightfoot Jr. 1964Producer Renee Plays Piano + GuitarSING & DANCE ALONG !!Here are the lyrics:In the early morning rainWith a dollar in my handWith an aching in my heartAnd my pockets full of sandI'm a long way from homeLord, I miss my loved ones soIn the early morning rainWith no place to goOut on runway number nineBig 707's set to goAnd I'm stuck here in the grassWith a pain that ever growsAnd the apples tasted goodAnd the jets they all flew fastWell, there she goes my friendShe'll be rolling down at last Hear the mighty engines roarSee the silver wing on highShe's away and Westward boundFar above the clouds she'll flyWhere the morning rain don't fallAnd the sun it always shinesShe'll be flying 0'er my homeIn about three hours timeThis old airport's got me downIt's no earthly good to meAnd I'm stuck here on the groundJust as cold and sad as I can beYou can't jump a jet planeLike you can a freight trainSo I'd best be on my wayIn the early morning rainhttp://PinkieThePigPodcast.com

Transcript (sorry about typos)I've been trying to learn a short song on the piano recently. Because right now, I'm house sitting at the place across the road from the yurt that I live in. And there's a piano in here, an upright. It's not very clean, it's actually kind of out of tune. And that is just the kind of quality of sound that I like. Trying to learn something that someone else made, trying to copy it, is a very different process then just sitting down at the piano and playing whatever comes into my head—which is what I've always done. Trying to intentionally press certain notes is a lot more difficult than just letting the notes come out as they will. But as soon as I started to learn some of this tune, I realized that there is music in the tune; that there is expansion available to these pre-made notes. In other words, there is further music inside of that tune to be found—and so I started playing around within the phrase, I guess it's called. To be honest, I have no training in music, so I don't know what I'm talking about. But I started playing around in the notes themselves. And I've realized that just in that snippet of the song, there was maybe so much variation—just in five seconds of music. And I really like that. Doing more with less: the idea behind that, what it brings up, what it results in. And I like that even though I'm not good at copying someone else's work, when I start playing, immediately what comes to mind is finding the music within the music. When I write, I write in an unconstrained way. I never find myself writing to a rubric. I never set a certain amount of time I'm going to write for. I never set a time itself to write. I never set any kind of a goal.I just have this general idea that I need to write as much as I can, which doesn't always work out. Because it's not very disciplined. But actually, it kind of does, because it seems like I tend to write a lot by not putting any constraints on it. It seems like I allow what comes to come, and I don't deal with the garbage. I don't produce crap in order to get to the good stuff. I just don't produce when there isn't anything worth writing, which I think is up for debate with a lot of people. And the funny thing is I recently haven't been able to really write, as well as I've been able to just talk. And talking is even more unconstrained, because as I speak I don't really remember what I just said. All I'm doing is following a thought pattern. I can't go back and read the words I wrote down, I'm just here in the present saying whatever is coming to the forefront of my mind. And I think that it's a sign of a lack of constraint and an abundance of creativity: to be able to just talk, and not need a form, and still produce something intelligible.Which I think is pretty difficult. So, I've been thinking about the heart recently. Just last night, I read a piece by someone, I kind of, sort of know, who lives in Maine. Her name is Jenna Rozelle, and she writes about food, but it's more the idea of nourishment. I really appreciate her writing.I think she's very articulate and prolific, and I like that. She hunts and has a relationship with wild landscapes. And she wrote about the heart recently just last night. In the article, she explained her experience of this season, and taking heart, and what gets her through some of the times, and other things.Anyway, you should go check out her newsletter, Appetites. You can search for her name too.So it got me thinking about the heart. And what I think of the heart has a very particular association with a lack of constraint. Because if anything, the heart ceases to function when it's constrained—when it has atherosclerosis in the arteries, calcification, or a lot of people deal with arrhythmia. Or afib. And it's this idea of constraint that brings me back to thinking about the heart. My experience of the culture I live in, and what is being asked for in that culture and what is being permitted, and not permitted. In other words, constraint has a direct effect on the heart, in my opinion. And this is coming from my studies recently with Chinese medicine and energetics and holistic medicine. But also, just my sense about these things that has developed for a decade or so now. And so what I see when I see constraint is a lack of heartAnd to me the heart means also—so there's this idea in biomedicine that the heart is a pump, and it's goal is to push blood through the body. And while that's true in some sense, the heart has been shown by other medicine forms to be more of a sensory organ. And the perspective of Chinese medicine, of many perspectives on the heart, is that the blood actually is what pumps the heart. So to explain that—the blood carries information in its temperature and flow. And so when it heads out to the periphery, it is cooled and comes back. The heart notices those changes. And it adapts as a result of the process of the blood moving through the body. And then the blood does so many things, obviously and the heart is adaptive to those needs. And so the heart I see as more of a sensory organ. And so, if you think about someone who has a closed heart, or a hardened heart, what do you think is going on there? Maybe a lack of of sensitivity of the world around them, a lack of sensitivity of their own emotions and of others. And as for someone who has an open heart, what do you think their sensitivity of the world around them would be like? What kind of things do you imagine that person would allow in? What would they constrain? And where does that lack of constraint, or need for constraint, come from?My idea is that it comes from a sense of protectiveness—of someone trying to preserve their internal well-being because they feel attacked, or they have trauma. And so if you come across an uncaring person, the result of that lack of care is often that they had extreme trauma. And they can't be sensitive anymore because they're trying to protect themselves. Which I mean, this is not revolutionary thinking at all. But a couple years ago, for me, it really was. And maybe for some people, thinking about the heart as a sensory organ, that responds to the needs of the body and even the emotions, rather than that it's a pump that goes on mindlessly—maybe this is a revolutionary thought. So from what I understand in Chinese medicine is that the heart is seen as the place of one's spirit. It's where the Shen, as they call it, rests every night. The Shen is kind of an animating principle. It is the quality of a person's experience, and intention in the world. So it's this reflective or responsive phenomenon that makes up who that person is. And so you can see a lot of interesting aspects here—if, for example, someone is hurt, often as a young kid, their Shen changes. And that would have a responsive or reflective aspect on the heart function. But potentially as well a you can actually see a shock such as that in the pulse. You can see it in atrial fibrillation. You can see it and tachycardia, or arrhythmia. You can see them being unstable. And so it affected the terrain, these shocks, and you can actually see it in the body. You can even see it, sometimes, on people's tongues. So in other words, the heart works best when it's unconstrained, when it doesn't have trauma, when it can be sensitive to the needs of the body and the spirit and to others around it. So the heart to me, is something that governs what is let in or what is excluded. And that's really interesting to me because in the cultural moment that I perceive, there's so much hard-heartedness going on. Everyone wants to immediately come to a conclusion about who someone else, and what they believe in. Why? Because people are deeply afraid. They're trying to protect themselves from something that may hurt them, or has hurt them. But the moment a protective wall goes up, communication stops, and calcification manifests. And I think it's really terrible to see all of these boxes that people or the culture want to live in, or basically build around themselves as a protective measure. And I wonder if the this has deep implications. The number one cause of death in the United States is heart disease, right? So—it's like heart disease, maybe, comes from closing off oneself to external sensitivity and others emotional needs and a person's own emotional needs. And then the second one is cancer. Cancer may come from grief, unresolved grief... I don't know. It's pretty interesting.Of course, this isn't conclusive information at all about how chemistry works inside of the body. But I think it has some interesting implications. And for me, explains to some degree how the heart looks and functions. What it does. In terms of the blood and sensitivity and how it senses relationship with others and how it makes up our sense of self. And so to be grounded in oneself means to have a strong heart. To be sure of oneself is to have an intact circulatory system, essentially, an emotional system, and therefore a strong heart. And to be open to the world means to allow things that may damage. But also to know that even though those things might cause damage, that can be healed or not necessarily fatal. That they can actually make the system stronger. So when I first started running a couple years ago, it hurt. The circulatory system is not prepared for the muscles calling for so much oxygenated blood and the heart and the lungs and the blood suddenly have to work harder. And it's a process that takes time. But once a general fitness is achieved, it doesn't fade very quickly, I've noticed. Maybe it's been that I've been active for a lot of the summer, but I think it's interesting to understand that aspect of the heart—when stresses are placed on it, actually gets stronger, as long as the stresses aren't chronic and insidious. If they're healthy stressors, like difficult relationships that are worth it.So when I write unconstrained, I feel like I'm letting my heart open. I'm allowing it to take in my thoughts. My emotions. What's happened before? What's coming next? What's happening right now? I can take in the world around me, by being unconstrained and open. And I find that I allow real sustenance to come in.I guess that's what the heart means to me. This is a public episode. What do we need to let go of to bring our whole selves to the table? Linda shares her story of dismantling the cage she was trapped in and her ongoing journey to live an authentic life. And how she learned to dismantle the one cage that she couldn't escape; the cage that existed within. We explore other topics including:The playfulness of curiosityHolding space for our journey of self-discoveryConnecting the head and the heartAnd, the very special practice of Qoya. John Henry hammered in the mountainsHis hammer was striking fireBut he worked so hard, it broke his poor heartAnd he laid down his hammer and he diedTraditionalJohn Henry was a steel-driving man, or so the song goes. A figure of American legend and the subject of many heroic songs and tales, John Henry was a Black railroad worker in the 1800s who challenged a newfangled steam-powered drill to a contest. Henry, according to the lore, won the competition but died soon after from the strain. That model of labor, the man who can just push himself further and further — suggesting that all effort is just a matter of willpower — is a myth that still burdens our workplaces and our approach to work. It's the idea that if we just do more — one more thing — productivity will increase, as though we will never reach the point of diminishing returns. The Lure of Fake RigorIf I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter.Various attributionsI taught college composition for years, and I have heard some interesting theories of learning from select colleagues. These are the ones who would insist that students just need to write longer and more demanding essays to become proficient writers. They were blind to the fact that assigning unreasonable work just overwhelmed students and stifled their ability to learn and progress. Those teachers not only pushed their students past the point of diminishing returns, but they also engendered unintended consequences — including cheating. If you suggested that perhaps a different type of assignment would be more effective, they would invariably claim that their expectations were “rigorous,” implying that your practice was not. This came up all the time in discussions of college courses of every sort. “More is better,” was the mantra. Read more pages, write more pages, take more tests, break more backs, and the only thing there was less of was time. I coined a phrase to describe this wrongheaded and lazy — yes, lazy — thinking: “fake rigor.”Fake rigor is when something is harder but decidedly not better. Don't get me wrong, I am not advocating against hard work, but, as I have written elsewhere, hard work is no substitute for smart work. The lure of fake rigor in our culture can be powerful, and I am afraid I succumbed to it my first few years of teaching. Over time I wised up and started experimenting with shorter assignments on the basis that almost all professional writing is, in fact, brief: emails, memos, letters, summaries, etc. It is pretty rare that an individual will have to crank out a lengthy report, if ever, and very often it will be a team effort. Moreover, short writing is more challenging. Anyone who sends you a multi-screen email is just slacking off. I noticed that when I gave students 20-page assignments, they tended to pad the content with fluff. There is no room for fluff in a 4-page paper let alone a thoughtfully crafted email. I eventually came to reward students for coming in under length while still covering the topic in a persuasive manner. That's inherently good writing! In other words, there is more rigor (discipline, if you will) in creating something succinct yet sufficient than in self-indulgently blathering on. Oh, and it is harder to get away with plagiarism in a short piece. There is no doubt that you improve your writing through frequent practice, so I saw to it that my students wrote at least as many pages per semester as anyone else's students only they did so in shorter, pithier assignments rather in one or two unwieldy fluff-fests. The Deception of RigmaroleThis propensity to privilege longer over better has nothing to do with rigor. Having the biggest pile of garbage is not something to crow about. As with fake rigor, it's still just stinking garbage. Here is a useful word you don't hear too often: rigmarole. Rigmarole is much like fake rigor in that it masquerades as quality because it is hard. If you have to fill out two forms to perform one function, isn't that inherently superior? After all, more is always better, right? This sort of thinking is the hallmark of bureaucratic mindlessness. It's why health insurance companies put you through the wringer every time you go to the doctor and then pretend they don't have to cover your bills. Rigmarole. The Power of Tiny Thinking I recently trained to become a certified Tiny Habits coach. If you don't know what Tiny Habits is, I suggest you check it out here: tinyhabits.com. Better still, buy the book. B.J. Fogg, the behavioral scientist who created the Tiny Habits method, is a big proponent of the idea that less can be more. Here are a just a few of his discoveries. You can accomplish more by expecting less — particularly at the outset. “Powering through” often leads to mediocrity and even failure. The feeling of success leads to positive outcomes. The best changes result from feeling good.Tiny Habits sounds easy, and the method is so in many superficial ways, but that ease can be a bit misleading. The true Tiny Habits practice is, in fact, rigorous in application and profound in impact. Tiny Habits unleashes the power of small. The Tyranny of BosswareYou may have heard of bossware. It's software installed on workers' computers so that their overlords can monitor their “productivity.” I put productivity in scare quotes because bossware has little to do with being productive. It's really about time on task, which is an entirely different thing. If you don't see the difference, simply consider the last time you were caught in traffic on a trip you normally make with no delays. Same distance as always, same destination, but this time the traffic exacted significantly more time on task. Was that extra time inherently more productive? Now imagine you had no mobile phone or audiobooks. The use of bossware is a classic example of the confusion of rigor with rigmarole — mistaking time on task or sheer effort for productivity and treating a measure as a goal. For more on this latter, see my essay on Goodhart's law called “Soviet Nails.”Bossware, like pointlessly long assignments, will likely lead to costly unintended consequences, including corner-cutting, subversion, malcontentment, insubordination, sabotage, and employee churn. The Benefits of RigorRigor, in its purest form, is about holding yourself and others accountable. Effective leaders know that they cannot fake rigor and cannot substitute rigmarole for it. Good leaders know what bosses miss. We cannot put quantity over quality, and, by the way, quantity and quality are not mutually exclusive. You can have both.My first job out of college required me to teach a reading rate and comprehension course. Our operating premise was that if you read too slowly, you will be bored, and your comprehension will drop. If you read too fast, you will be overloaded and face identical results. The idea of the course was to teach people to increase their reading rate to the point of maximum comprehension and no more. It worked pretty well, I'd say.The premise of that program is precisely what so many organizations and their lousy bosses don't get. The more you push effort, the more return you get until you don't. Bossware is just the latest fad in the misguided mindset of many workplaces. Bosses who treat a worker as they would a machine claim they don't want lazy workers, but they themselves are lazy thinkers. While I can imagine some industries where bossware might make some sense, I am going to guess that those are usually not happy places to work. The days of John Henry, the steel-driving man, are long gone (if they ever existed). Workers are not interchangeable with steam engines. People are not expendable like equipment — mere human resources. And true leaders understand the difference between rigor and rigmarole. Furthermore, true leaders, even when they are in charge and have a big title and a corner office, are never bosses. How do you differentiate between rigor and rigmarole, between being a leader and being a boss? How can you resist the lure of fake rigor? You can tap into true rigor and be the leader you were always meant to be, and I can help. Acts 18:5-11 – An Appointed TimeFebruary 7, 2020Obedience to God’s DirectionThe mind of man plans his way,But the Lord directs his steps. For if I cause you sorrow, who then makes me glad but the one whom I made sorrowful? This is the very thing I wrote you, so that when I came, I would not have sorrow from those who ought to make me rejoice; having confidence in you all that my joy would be the joy of you all. For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears; not so that you would be made sorrowful, but that you might know the love which I have especially for you. (2 Corinthians 2:1-4)No One Said it was Going to be EasyThese things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)The Blessing of TroubleConsider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. (James 1:2-4)Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. (James 1:12)Should I Stay or Should I Go?Many plans are in a man’s heart,But the counsel of the Lord will stand. (Galatians 2:20)Love the Lord with All Your Heart, Soul, and MindTrust in the Lord with all your heartAnd do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him,And He will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)Be Devoted in PrayerBe anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (Philippians 4:6)Rely on His WordAll Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)Rely on His PeopleBut to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills. (1 Corinthians 12:7-11)Keep Alert for His InvitationEven now, take your stand and see this great thing which the Lord will do before your eyes. (1 Samuel 12:16)
Sermon Manuscript: Acts 14:1-4 Series: ALL IN Title: ALL IN Nothing less than Full Reliance on God Date: 1.17.21 Location: Rock of Generations, Perris.Online.Church, Digital.Online.Church Transformational Point: To Be ALL IN in our Reliance on God, is to be ALL OUT of Reliance on us. Isaiah 40:28 (NASB) 28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earthDoes not become weary or tired. His understanding is unsearchable.29 He gives strength to the weary,And to the one who lacks might He increases power. John 15:4-5 (NASB) 4 Remain in Me, and I in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself but must remain in the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in Me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches; the one who remains in Me, and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. Being ALL IN with FULL Reliance in Christ requires us to come to and STAY in Christ. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NASB) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heartAnd do not lean on your own understanding.6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,And He will make your paths straight. To Be ALL IN in our Reliance on God, is to be ALL OUT of Reliance on us. Matthew 11:28-30 (NASB) 28 "Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is comfortable, and My burden is light." Acts 14:1-4 (NASB) 14 In Iconium they entered the synagogue of the Jews together, and spoke in such a way that a large number of people believed, both of Jews and of Greeks. 2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the minds of the Gentiles and embittered them against the brothers. 3 Therefore they spent a long time there speaking boldly with reliance upon the Lord, who was testifying to the word of His grace, granting that signs and wonders be performed by their hands. 4 But the people of the city were divided; and some sided with the Jews, while others, with the apostles. When our Reliance is ALL IN God, God can do Amazing things. Matthew 6:25-33 (NASB) 25 "For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the sky, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather crops into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more important than they? 27 And which of you by worrying can add a single day to his life's span? 28 And why are you worried about clothing? Notice how the lilies of the field grow; they do not labor nor do they spin thread for cloth, 29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! 31 Do not worry then, saying, 'What are we to eat?' or 'What are we to drink?' or 'What are we to wear for clothing?' 32 For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you. All IN Reliance requires ALL IN Trust Hebrews 11:1 (NASB) 11 Now faith is the certainty of things hoped for, a proof of things not seen. Isaiah 41:10 (NASB) 10 Do not fear, for I am with you;Do not be afraid, for I am your God.I will strengthen you, I will also help you,I will also uphold you with My righteous right hand.' Psalm 23 (NKJV) 23 The Lord is my shepherd;I shall not want.2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.3 He restores my soul;He leads me in the paths of righteousnessFor His name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,I will fear no evil; For You are with me;Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil;My cup runs over.6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow meAll the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.

Episode 001: You are not Alone!I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or LDS for short. All my life I felt awkward and out of place, not because of my religion, but because of my spiritual gifts. It was hard to combine the idea of what first seemed like two separate worlds. So my whole life I have tried. I have learnt more about my gifts, and stayed faithful to my faith. But then I heard people left the church because it seems impossible to combine the two. So I am here, to try and mend the rift. To show that it is possible to be both LDS and to have, and use, our spiritual gifts. I am not alone on this journey, but my sister, who just is waking up to her spiritual gifts is by my side and she will also share her story. Jesus Christ, our older brother, was a healer. He asked us to love one another. So let´s follow in his footsteps. Please join me on this journey, let´s make a community of strong spiritual LDS, or whatever religion you belong to, and all work together to make this world a better place. Be the Light. Share the Light. Spread the Light. As the old rhyme goes...Even he who is pure of heartAnd says his prayers at nightMay become a wolf when the wolfbane bloomsAnd the moon is full and bright. We all know the legends - but where did this myth of "man-becomes-wolf" originate? Are these simply exaggerated stories of one of the world's most efficient natural predators? Perhaps the werewolf's carnage is symbolic of the savagery man has inflicted on man over the centuries. Or, could there actually be some underlying truth to the folklore? Stephanie has that story - but she'll leave the conclusions to you.To share your comments on this episode, send Stephanie a message. In this episode Luc and Kirk explored the idea of the role of a mentor in ones life. To what degree should we revere them? How personal does the relationship have to be? What value is there in a mentor? How can you be better mentor? What truly does a mentor do? How is a mentor different than a teacher?Luc shared a wonderful sculpture with all of us and Kirk chose a poem (stole mightt be a better word! From a talk by Lisa VanDamme, "Life Poetry and Keats.")This podcast is a conversation one that will certainly surprise you with the inherent truths in great works of art. You do not need to be a scholar to approach these podcasts. The Road That Has No EndBy Joseph BurrowsHast ever tramped along the roadThat has no end?The far brown winding road, your oneFast friendA tattered weather-beaten swag,A silent mateTo sendHis dumb warm comfort to the heart,A fount where dreams ascend. There's wondrous freedom on the roadThat has no end;A man's heart glows, his spirit leapsTo blendIts joy of life with fierce wind's gustUpon his face:To lendIts cry to Nature's tumult, fullAnd shrill, as twilight shades descend. The flowers bloom along the roadThat has no endCool breezes blow, the gum trees swayAnd bend; The wild doves woo, and softly cooTheir soothing notes,And mendHeart's throbbing pain to sweet content,And peace lights on the mind's sad trendThere's pain and toil along the roadThat has no end;A sinking heart, and weary feetThat spendTheir strength, and lag and crave respite; And dim tired eyesThat tendTo close their heavy lids uponThe stinging dusts that upward wend. There are sweet still hours along the roadThat has no end'Neath twinkling stars when night's deep shadesO'erpend;A man's eyes shine with gathered tears,And memories comeTo rendHis straining heart strings, while aboveThe paling lights his mood commend.I love the road, the swagman's roadThat has no end;I love its joys, that pains and toilsTranscend; It is my dreams, the life that fills my heartAnd when death comes and wouldMy peacefulnessAmend,I pray that God may let my soul departWith my tattered swag beside me,'Mid my friends that never chide me,And my face towards the distant clouded hill,Where leads the far brown winding roadThat has no end.Find us online at thatsnotcanon.com/epigraphySubscribe to us on ITUNES, STITCHER, SPOTIFY, RADIOPUBLIC or your podcatcher of choice.Find us on FACEBOOK, TWITTER or INSTAGRAM. https://youtu.be/OE7qDRgkDMo Acts 3:17-2617 “Now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance [not fully aware of what you were doing], just as your rulers did also. 18 And so God has fulfilled what He foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that His Christ (Messiah, Anointed) would suffer. 19 So repent [change your inner self—your old way of thinking, regret past sins] and return [to God—seek His purpose for your life], so that your sins may be wiped away [blotted out, completely erased], so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord [restoring you like a cool wind on a hot day];20 and that He may send [to you] Jesus, the Christ, who has been appointed for you, 21 whom heaven must keep until the time for the [complete] restoration of all things about which God promised through the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time. 22 Moses said, ‘THE LORD GOD WILL RAISE UP FOR YOU A PROPHET [a]LIKE ME FROM YOUR COUNTRYMEN; YOU SHALL LISTEN TO HIM and OBEY everything He tells you. 23 And it will be that every person that does not listen to and heed that Prophet will be utterly destroyed from among the people.’24 Indeed, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, also announced these days. 25 You are the sons (descendants) of the prophets and [heirs] of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘AND IN YOUR SEED (descendant) ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH SHALL BE BLESSED.’ 26 It was for you first of all that God raised up His Servant and Son [Jesus], and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways.” Peter and John just healed this guy who was in sitting at the temple all his life waiting for people to give him moneyThe people are amazed and Peter saw an opportunity to tell them about ChristPeople of Israel this should not be so surprising – as a matter of fact this power was meant for you but you killed the one that it came throughAnd I understand that you and you leaders did it out of ignorance – you did not know what you were doing – but no matter how hard you tried to stop Jesus – it was going to happen – vs 18 – God was fulfilling what all the prophets had foretold about the messiah. No matter what you did, what God had spoken was going to be- The wave is coming! He continues to tell them, that if you had paid attention to your prophets, Samuel and those who came after him.You would have known that the one you killed was one of your descendant – and He was sent first to you to bless you and help you turn away from sins. But you killed himPaul also gives them hope – It’s not too late – Vs 19 – So repent [change your inner self—your old way of thinking, Peter is bringing an awareness of their sins – also giving them a way out.A way where they submit and instead of trying to lean on their own understanding – they lean on to GodMay times, we take our own thinking and apply it to the things of God. Not aware that… Isaiah 5 5:8-9“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in and rely confidently on the LORD with all your heartAnd do not rely on your own insight or understanding. He is offering them a “new way of thinking” They have to stop thinking the old way.We have to stop relying on our thoughts and adopt our heavenly Fathers thoughts. Talking about the old way of thinking –– Our trip to great wolf lodge– Great lesson that could only be learnt in a controlled environment as such- no deep see swimming– I am not a big fan of water, mainly coz my swimming is questionable – Gabe and I are soon to address that– Giant wave pool – every so often – the wave would be started– I learnt that where you are during the wave matters (shore or deep waters,
"Speak The Truth - Kellie, Michael and Zeph" Song Notes:There was a question that came in the early hours while I was thinking about our young people. How are they getting through this strange time we live in? Michael and I mulled over this in conversation. And this song came forth. His guitar says much of what the angst in my gut felt and then Zeph brought his drums and amazing production skills into the mix and brought what was in our hearts to fruition. It's amazing! 3 people. One in Santa Fe NM, one in Brisbane Australia, and another in Rocky Mount NC, making music together like we were making bread. We hope you enjoy! - Kellie RowleySPEAK THE TRUTHLyrics There's a million lies whispering in your earThey're coming through the airwaves and that's why you are hereThis is the time, make up your mindYou can change your worldBut first you gotta open your heartAnd speak the truth insideSpeak the Truth, live the truthSpeak the Truth, don't be afraid, don't lie to yourself just speak the truthWhere are you going to in the search for your meaningWhat have you gone through and is the past all its seemingOblivious, it's just usFound in the wreckage of humanityBut what if I told youTheres a way to keep your sanityChorusThey say open your 3rd eyeI say open up your heartQuestion everythingDivide the light from the darkAnd be brave, don't just behaveLaugh at the demons in their facesGive your kindness willinglyKeep the bitter roots in their places.
