It’s easy to move through life noticing what’s on the surface. We see how people present themselves—their confidence, their success, their outward expressions—and we often assume that tells the whole story. But Scripture reminds us otherwise: “The LORD looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). Every person carries an inner world that isn’t immediately visible. Beneath appearances, there are hidden struggles, quiet fears, unspoken griefs, and unmet longings. While we may not always see these things, they are real—and they matter deeply to God. We often try to hide what’s going on inside us. Vulnerability can feel risky. We fear rejection, misunderstanding, or being seen as weak. So we present a version of ourselves that feels safer, even if it isn’t fully honest. But God invites us into something different. He sees beyond the surface and cares about what’s happening in our hearts. And He calls us to extend that same kind of awareness and compassion to others. When we begin to recognize that everyone around us is carrying something unseen, it changes how we interact. We become more patient, more understanding, and more willing to listen. James 5:16 encourages believers to share their struggles and pray for one another so that healing can take place. There is something powerful about being known—about allowing someone else to see what we’ve been carrying inside. And there is also something powerful about being the kind of person who creates a safe space for others to be honest. This doesn’t mean we force deep conversations with everyone we meet. But it does mean we approach others with empathy, recognizing that there is always more beneath the surface. When we allow ourselves to be honest before God and open with others in wise and safe ways, we create opportunities for healing, connection, and grace. Read Luke 8:40–48 This poor woman had been in poor health for 12 years.This young girl, who was sick and near death, was 12 years old. Luke 8:41 (NLT)[Jairus] came and fell at Jesus' feet, pleading with Him to come home with him. We all should want Jesus to come home with us. Parents: the best thing you can do is get your children to Jesus. Be faithful. Be consistent. Be present. Deuteronomy 6:6–7 (NLT)And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Every young person is looking for three things:a place to belong,a purpose to live for,and to be loved. Jairus had great faith in Christ. Then this woman burst on the scene.How easily Jairus could have resented this intrusion. Jesus is never late. He is always on time. This woman had been sick for 12 long years with no hope for a cure. Maybe you, too, need a healing touch from Jesus right now.Reach out to Him as this desperate woman did. Words are powerful. Though small and easily spoken, they can carry immense weight—capable of bringing comfort or causing deep wounds. Scripture compares the tongue to a fire, something that can quickly grow out of control and cause lasting damage. In James 3, we are reminded that even a small spark can set an entire forest ablaze. In the same way, a single careless or angry word can leave scars that linger far longer than we expect. Many of us know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of those words—to be hurt, discouraged, or deeply wounded by something spoken in anger. And if we’re honest, we also know what it’s like to be the one who spoke too quickly. Anger itself is not the problem—but unrestrained anger often leads to words we cannot take back. In those moments, our natural response may be to fight fire with fire—to return hurt for hurt. But Scripture calls us to a different way. Jesus modeled this perfectly. Even when He was insulted and mistreated, He did not respond with harsh words. Instead, He chose restraint, grace, and trust in the Father. His example shows us that strength is not found in reacting quickly, but in responding wisely. When we are hurt by others, forgiveness can feel incredibly difficult. Yet holding onto anger only continues the cycle of pain. God invites us to release that burden, to forgive as we have been forgiven, and to allow His Spirit to guide our responses. Likewise, when we are tempted to speak in anger, we can ask God to help us pause—to listen more than we speak, and to choose words that build up rather than tear down. The same mouth that can wound also has the power to heal. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, our words can become instruments of encouragement, truth, and grace. If you want life to go fast, just spend it alone and have a routine and never bust out of that routine. What makes life interesting is diversity in people, because people are complicated, and relationships are complicated. Lean into your emotions to slow time down. If you see something that moves you, stop, think about it, ask yourself why it moves you, and try to cement that moment in your brain. Otherwise, you're not sleepwalking through life; you're sleep sprinting. "The greatest wasted resource in history is good intentions that don't get articulated." No matter how famous someone is, they love affirmation as much as anybody else. Good thoughts that don't get articulated are wasted. Absorb when you're upset and lean into emotions, good and bad. This sort of marks the day and slows things down. Otherwise, if you get up every morning, do the same thing, eat the same thing, have the same relationship, the week's just gonna go really fast. Reverse engineer your success to things that aren't your fault. What are the things that played a role in your success that you had no control over? Your luck, your good fortune. For Scott: big government, assisted lunch, Pell Grants, University of California, technology financed by middle-class taxpayers, DARPA, the internet, deep pools of capital, and acceptance of failure. His mom told him he had value every day. Scott's mom, every day, implicitly and explicitly, told him and communicated to him that he had value. That builds a basic confidence that manifests in different ways: the confidence to fail, approach strangers, believe you're worthy of love, that you'll add value to a company, and that you can ask for tens of millions of dollars from someone. When good things happened, he used to call his mom. Whether it was getting a bonus at Morgan Stanley or striking up a conversation with a woman at Starbucks and getting her number, Scott used to call his mom. Your parents can bask in your victory, and you can brag to your parents, and it's okay. If there's no one there with you, it's like it didn't happen. Scott travels for business and stays at really nice hotels, and inevitably gets upgraded to the penthouse or the George V in Paris when he's alone. But if there's no one there with you, it's like it didn't happen. Celebrate victories, tell people how much they mean to you. You have to call your friends, celebrate their victories, celebrate your own, and tell people how much they mean to you. Every day, no matter what, tell your kids you're proud of them and love them. No matter how much Scott's kids piss him off, at some point, he finds a way to say, "I'm proud of you, and I love you immensely. You know that, right?" He hopes they have that same kind of base or pillar of confidence he had his whole life. Having someone tell you they believe in you every day works. You don't have to be a baller or successful. Just having someone in your life and every day telling them they mean a lot to you, they can't help but not believe you after a while. Being a leader isn't about being the smartest person in the room. Scott used to think being a leader was being the smartest person in the room, and he had trouble, especially with other men, thinking if he acknowledged someone else was doing a good job, somehow that made him less impressive. You have so much currency as a founder or manager. If you're in a management or leadership role, much less a founder, you have so much currency to pull someone into a conference room and say, "You were outstanding in that meeting" or "I just read this, and I love this paragraph. God, where did you come up with this idea?" You literally see these people just light up. "If you're thinking it, say it." The instant you're thinking something positive about somebody, just tell them, text them, call them. Don't wait. We have a tendency to think other people are telepathic, that they must sense we think they're wonderful. No, they don't sense it. Articulate it. When you're on your deathbed, you're not gonna think "I gave too much praise at work and told too many people how much they meant to me." Young people need watering. If you don't give young people feedback and praise when they deserve it, it's like having a ton of capital and not spending it. Especially with young people, they need watering. Feedback is incredible compensation. Whenever someone does something good, Scott tries to remind himself via email. Then, when he does their review at the end of the year, it's like, " Wow, this dude is paying attention. That is a form of compensation. Give thoughtful reviews that show you understand them. Tell them what they need to develop to get to the next level. Pay for the courses they need. They're a single mom who needs flexibility and wants to make more money. That's compensation. "Become a clip machine." Certain people are clip machines: James Clear, Morgan Housel, Kat Cole, Scott Galloway. These are people who communicate ideas in ways that are instantly shareable and memorable. For leaders, becoming an effective communicator isn't optional anymore. You need to be able to inspire and move people. The ability to write well is the stem of storytelling. It forces you to manage your thoughts and think things through. It's difficult to be a great storyteller if you can't write at a competent level. Rank yourself across every medium and go deep on one. Look at every medium (texting, LinkedIn, short form video, TikTok, long form writing, speaking), rank yourself, listen to yourself, decide what your specialty is, and then go very deep into one. Figure out your medium and commit to being in the top 1%. Challenge yourself to be in the top 10% within a year, the top 1% within three years. Identify which medium you have skills in, then challenge yourself. If you're in the top 6,000 podcasts out of 600,000 that put out content every week, you're in the top 1%. "Social media may make you want to shower after you use it, but it's frightening how powerful it is." In terms of economic power and influence, it's frightening how powerful social media is right now. If you're a young person and you want to be influential or economically secure, you need to master it. Storytelling is the enduring skill to give your kids. Scott's core competence is storytelling. His superpower is attracting and retaining people who help leverage his skills. The most radical act in a capitalist society is not participation. Scott started Resist and Unsubscribe because action absorbs anxiety. He was sick of being virtuous and courageous on a keyboard or a mic and wanted to do something. "Ready, fire, fucking aim on this thing called life." Scott wants to dance like no one is watching. He's gonna be dead soon, and it's all going really fast. He doesn't want to look back and think about losing sponsors or what people thought was stupid. He wants to think, "Right on, I tried to do something." He wants to be that guy who was unafraid, who showed up with a carpool to try and make a difference. Your spending or lack thereof is a weapon hiding in plain sight. The government most quickly responded six years ago during COVID, not because tens of thousands of people were dying, but because the GDP crashed 31%. The president backs away from plans when the bond market or stock market goes down. Even a gnat on an elephant matters. Even if it's just a gnat on an elephant, enough gnats will take down an elephant. If you have economic security and people who love you unconditionally, you have an obligation to speak out. Sam Harris has this great saying: if you have economic security and people who love you unconditionally, then you have an obligation to speak out and speak your mind, because most people don't have that luxury. Do what makes you feel good about yourself. It's not easy being mediocre-looking; it takes real effort. Scott grew up very skinny with bad acne and thinks maybe he's a little too focused or self-conscious about his looks. America is ageist, and looks matter. New York is the ultimate tip of the spear for a capitalist society, and it's optimized for two people: hot women and rich guys. For everyone else, it's a soul-crushing experience. We can talk about the way the world should be and the way the world is. That's the way the world is. Start working out. Scott coaches young men: start working out. It's good for your head. It shows women and employers you're in shape, not just because it looks good (which it does), but because it reflects how you show up, that you have discipline, that you can commit to something. The rule of threes puts you in the top 5% of attractiveness. If you work out three times a week or more, if you spend at least 30 hours a week working outside of the house, and put yourself in the company of strangers (church group, nonprofits, sports league), just by doing those three things, you put yourself in the top 5% of attractiveness of young males. Anyone who's had great yeses has had a shit ton of no's. If you can be in the top 5% and learn how to mourn and move on from rejection, at some point, you'll be voluntarily celibate, which is awesome. There were hundreds of no's for you to get to a top podcast. You get used to no. No one has the right to a living or to reproduce. If you want to score above your class economically or romantically, get out a big spoon and get ready to eat shit. It's what everyone of us has done. "I'm constantly worried about my boys now." Scott didn't worry about his kids when they were little unless they were sick - they were safe and home. Now he's worried about them all the time: are they doing okay at school? Is the quiet one okay? His champagne toast moment would be celebrating his son's first year of college going well - having fun, a good friend group, a couple of dates, football games, and gearing up for sophomore year. 1. Senate Vote and Legislative Status The Senate voted 51–47 to proceed with debate on the Save America Act. All Republicans supported moving forward except Lisa Murkowski; Tom Tillis did not vote. Democrats are portrayed as unanimously opposed. The bill is now in debate, with Republicans attempting to build public support. The legislation would: Require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. Require photo ID to cast a ballot. This is: A common-sense safeguard, not voter suppression. Necessary to maintain election integrity and public trust. Voting is framed as a sacred right earned through American history and constitutional amendments. The speech references: The 15th, 19th, and 26th Amendments as expansions of voting rights. A U.S. Supreme Court ruling (Indiana voter ID case) that upheld photo ID laws. Facts are laid out that: Minority voter participation increased after voter ID laws. The Court rejected arguments that voter ID is discriminatory. 81% of Americans support voter ID laws. Roughly 75% of African Americans and 80%+ of Hispanics support voter ID. 70% of rank-and-file Democrats support voter ID, despite elected Democrats opposing it. Democratic opposition is elitist and disconnected from voters. 1B. Cultural and Moral Critiques of Democrats Democrats are accused of: Misusing civil rights language (e.g., calling voter ID “Jim Crow”). Holding minorities to lower expectations. Who is Texas Democratic Senate Nominee James Talarico The nominee is: A radical progressive falsely presented as moderate. Using religious language to promote views on gender identity, abortion, and masculinity. His statements on: God being non-binary, Transgender issues, Abortion, American symbols, Veganism and climate changeare used to depict him as culturally out of touch with Texas voters. 3. César Chávez Hero of the Political Left A New York Times exposé alleges sexual abuse by César Chávez. Chávez was: A leftist icon whose crimes were allegedly ignored due to ideology. A symbol of ethnic tokenism and collectivist politics. The broader scope: The left protects immoral figures if they serve political goals. We were joined by Elizabeth Gilbert—celebrated author of Eat, Pray, Love and Big Magic—to discuss her newest book that explores a rarely-addressed topic: the dangerous impacts of co-dependency and sex and love addiction. We discussed how her path took her from the stability of a suburban marriage into a profound, life-altering romance with her best friend-turned-lover, Rayya Elias. And we explore the “untouchable darkness” that followed, where a relationship with a relapsing addict revealed Elizabeth's own deepest addiction and codependency. Elizabeth describes her descent into unmanageability, contemplating both murder and suicide—her only perceived options out of the pain—before experiencing a spiritual revelation and hearing the voice of what she now knows is her Higher Power. While we often investigate the life experiences that shape our behavior, Elizabeth asserts that understanding “why” we suffer is rarely enough to heal us. Many believers carry a quiet burden—the longing to see loved ones come to know Jesus. Whether it’s a family member, friend, or coworker, we recognize their need for hope, peace, and truth. Yet even with that desire, we can feel unsure, hesitant, or even inadequate when it comes to sharing our faith. We often think boldness means having the courage to say all the right words at the right time. We imagine bold faith as something loud, visible, and fearless. And when we don’t feel that way, we may begin to believe we’re falling short. But biblical boldness is not always about volume—it’s about faithfulness. In Philippians 1:27, Paul encourages believers to live in a way that is “worthy of the gospel of Christ.” This kind of boldness is seen not only in what we say, but in how we live. It shows up in our choices, our attitudes, and our responses to others. Boldness can look like extending kindness when others choose criticism. It can look like offering prayer when someone is hurting, even if it feels uncomfortable. It can look like choosing integrity in situations where compromise would be easier. These everyday actions reflect the heart of Christ and quietly point others toward Him. Sharing the gospel is important, and we should continue to pray for opportunities and courage to speak truth clearly. But we should not underestimate the power of a life that consistently reflects Jesus. Love, peace, humility, and grace are testimonies that others can see and experience firsthand. God uses both our words and our actions to reach others. When we take even small steps of obedience, He works through them in ways we may not immediately see. If you feel hesitant or unsure, you are not alone. Ask God for boldness—not just to speak, but to live in a way that reflects His love. Trust that He is already at work in the lives of the people around you, and that He can use your faithfulness to draw them closer to Him. Brother Matthew was a worldly teenager when his mother decided she and her son needed to go to church. By the end of that first service, both of them had committed their lives to following Christ. As Matthew grew in faith, he was convicted and inspired by the Acts accounts of Paul's missionary travels. Studying Paul's efforts to take the gospel to the gentiles, Matthew began to ponder who were the gentiles in his generation, living far from the truth of Christ? As he began to ask that question in prayer, God laid on his heart the nation of Afghanistan. Matthew began taking steps towards service in that war-torn country, and repeatedly God confirmed His calling. Months later, Matthew was in Uzbekistan, serving with a church-planting effort and getting on-the-ground education in Central Asia ministry and culture.
