¡Bienvenidos jugadores!

I never knew a kid who had any kind of fort. In grade school I heard of a kid who could form Voltron, but that may have been an extravagant lie. My mom's friend's kids had a Sega Genesis, and that was pretty rad. I keep acquiring more games in the vain hope that it will make me popular, but it hasn't worked yet. Jason is happy to be joined by the host of Solo BG, Dereck Rodriguez, for a MEGA-length preview pod - our longest one! However, this episode is so much more than a preview. Yes, we chat with Adam and Brady Sadler about the new KS project launching in November, Hour of Need - how it works, some design choices, and the fact that it is indeed different from the previous Modular Deck System games (think of the MDS like, say, the COIN system - very different games, even within the same system). However, we talk about so much more. Adam and Brady reveal some of the inner workings at Blacklist Games, getting a small publisher started, and feeding the demands of the Kickstarter content beast. They also answer Jason's critical questions about their previous two MDS games - Street Masters and Brook City. Finally, all four of us share our Top Three Things in Comic Books - characters, storylines, team-ups, anything. We get into Marvel vs. DC, lots of different Robins, a commentary on the new Joker movie... the dork factor is really, really strong in this episode. We hope you have as much fun listening as we did recording!

Adam and Brady Sadler are back! Two of our favorite personal designers of solo/ coop games return to the show with the new expansion for Street Masters, Aftershock. We love Street Masters here on ENGN. However, we recognize that some gamers encountered barriers when approaching it. We ask the Sadlers how they designed Aftershock not just for pure awesomeness, but to answer some of the criticisms that folks have had, including player scaling/ downtime at four players, rules issues in some scenario interactions, and lack of easy entry points for new players. Aftershock promises to address some of the issues and present the best possible product for you to check out.

This week we stumble on the terrible, horrifying fact that there are other hobbies than boardgames, and we take pity on those poor lamented souls who are enslaved in their thrall. Just what is scrapbooking, anyway? Walker has a theory, but no one is really sure. We should thus feel blessed that we chosen few enjoy the hobby that we do, and so we discuss ways to try to be decent while doing so. We are happy to present to you our first Kickstarter Mega-Pod! If you've been following our Preview Series, you'll know that we cover lots of kickstarter projects while they are live. So it's very nice when the games actually deliver and we can talk about them! This undertaking was so big that we had to enlist some help - Liz Davidson from Beyond Solitaire, as well as Jeremy Howard from Jambalaya Plays Games - https://jambalayaplaysgames.com/. We have five games for you this week (spoiler - they are all good). First, we get into an interesting discussion about the City of Kings (7:58), both in terms of the game itself as well as the imaginative possibilities inherent in big adventure games like this one. Next, Jeremy tells us about the big space exploration game Centauri Saga (21:54), while Liz covers the Monsters and Minions expansion for Roll Player (28:53). To finish things off, we have two games that all of us have played. We get into Street Masters (32:39), an arcade-style beat 'em up game with lots of similarities to Sentinels of the Multiverse. Finally, we chat about Renegade, the debut co-op puzzle game from our friend, Ricky Royal (46:52). We apologize for presenting an episode that's a hair over an hour. But we had so much fun! We hope you enjoy it. #BoardChitless Episode 35 - 838 Viking Street Masters This week Leki and Tristan show off their martial arts skills playing Adam and Brady Sadler's 'Street Masters: Rise of the Kingdom', a co-operative miniatures game inspired by classic video games like 'Double Dragon' and 'Street Fighter'. As if that wasn't enough combat we also get a good look at Academy Games' '878 Vikings'; a head to head area control game based on the Viking invasions of England. #BoardChitless Podcast is proudly sponsored by The Game Steward www.thegamesteward.com
Out first repeat Preview Series guest! Way back in episode 6, Brady hopped on the show while he was on the road to Origins to talk about Street Masters. This week, his brother Adam joins him to talk about the follow up to Street Masters from Blacklist Games, Brook City. We get into the Modular Deck game system they are developing, how they wanted Brook City to evoke 80s cop games, mechanisms that make the different cops and criminals unique, and a lot more. We ran a bit longer than usual for the game description, but the Sadlers were so much fun to have on as guests that we just let it ride. Lots and lots of laughs to be had in our discussion. After we wrap our conversation about Brook City, the Sadlers share their Top Five Cop Action Movies. This was a really rip roaring good time of a conversation. You will be very, very surprised to hear which movie hits number one on both of their lists! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/blacklistgames/brook-city?ref=nav_search&result=project&term=brook%20city
#BoardChitless Episode 9 - Sadler Brothers Interview Tristan and Leki are joined by Adam and Brady Sadler who discuss their experiences working at Fantasy Flight Games, their favourite designers and their latest Kickstarter project Street Masters. See more about Street Masters on the Kickstarter page; https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/blacklistgames/street-masters-rise-of-the-kingdom Want to share some of your own Kickstarter campaign stories? Scheduling Note: For those wondering where Episode 40 is, we missed last week with Anthony out of town for Origins. Sorry for the delay in the episode, which will be up this week on Friday, along with today's special preview episode. Thanks and enjoy! Jason sits down this week with Brady Sadler to discuss two Kickstarters currently running for games he designed - Street Masters: Rise of the Kingdom and Epic AF. Sadler is a seasoned designer who has worked on a lot of our favorite solo games in his time at Fantasy Flight, including the recently cancelled Warhammer Quest: Adventure Card Game. Learn how that system is being reimplemented in Epic AF and some of the controversy around the new game's theme. Thanks for listening to ENGN! Make sure to connect with us on Twitter (@engn_podcast), on Facebook (BoardGamersAnonymous and the Solo Board Gamers Group), and on www.boardgamersanonymous.com. And if you haven't yet, please rate us on iTunes. It means a lot to us and helps other solo gamers find the show!
