My first book was published in 1992 bearing the title “Lovecraft – Treasurer of the Forbidden”. In 1994 I published the first occult exegesis and translation of the Babylonian Epic of Creation in “Primordial Light” which was substantially enlarged in its second edition “Fiat Nox” in 1994. In the 1990s I was also a patron member of the British Museum Society. Besides, I always worked as a translator and was for example responsible for the first Nicholas-Roerich-biography by Jacqueline Decter. Further translations in the 1990s included works by WB Yeats and EA Wallis Budge. In 1996 I authored “Polaria – The Gift of the White Stone” on Lovecraft and Western Occultism which was published in the US. In 2001 I founded my own publishing company with two books on esoteric Traditionalism (Guénon) and related subjects of Alchemy as well as the first German translations of some of Suhrawardi's most eminent Sufi writings. After having positively identified Einstein's famous equation of Special Relativity in Kabbalah, I published “NecroYoga” in 2011 containing the Kabbalistic “threshold-equation” later termed “Moshe-Formula”, and partly based on a so-called “Babylon-Workout” on Kabbalah, Special Relativity and Black Hole ‘Physics which had appeared previously in Germany. My most recent translations include Nevill Drury's biography on the life and work of the Australian artist and occultist Rosaleen Norton and Stephen Flower's “Lords of the Left-Hand Path”. “Antarktos: Understanding the Age of Rebellion” in which I write comprehensively on the “real” secrets of Antarctica in connection with the ongoing conflict of the Old Ones vs. the Elder Ones, E.A. Poe's secret messages in “The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym” and further revelations from Lovecraft's occult heritage, is due for publication soon.

We believe that the Socratic way of life is what is most needed today because it is the one that can most help us cultivate wisdom in a way that is simultaneously respectful to spiritual tradition and to current scientific work.

Few philosophers can be said to have been watershed figures, in the wake of whose teachings a tradition of philosophy forever changed its course. Shihab al-Din Suhrawardi was such a figure for the development of Islamic philosophy. Trained in the Aristotelian school of Ibn Sina (known in the West as Avicenna), Suhrawardi nonetheless became a mystical philosopher who not only demonstrated the limits of rational deduction, but also insisted there was an alternative mode of knowledge. This he called ‘ilm al-huzuri—literally ‘knowledge by presence'—that derived from our direct experiences. As a mystic, such experiences included not only the commonsensical realm of ordinary everyday experience. It also included the mystical states that he argued allowed human beings to come into the presence of their own true being and in turn the ultimate Being of God. Both, he claimed, were pure light: divine light that that was at once the basis of all existence and the source of all knowledge. Drawing from the famous Light Verse of the Quran, from his philosophical studies, and from his own mystical experiences, Suhrawardi called his teachings the ‘Wisdom of Illumination' (hikmat al-ishraq).  Nile Green talks to John Walbridge, author of God and Logic in Islam: The Caliphate of Reason (Cambridge University Press, 2010).

Suhrawardī, founder of the Illuminationist (ishrāqī) tradition, proposes a metaphysics of light on the basis of his theory of knowledge by presence

What is the relationship between philosophy, mysticism, and scripture in the Islamic tradition? Mohammed Rustom, Associate Professor of Islamic Studies at Carleton University, has been thinking about this question for years. His intellectual curiosity is thoroughly explored in his book The Triumph of Mercy: Philosophy and Scripture in Mulla Sadra (SUNY Press, 2012). Rustom introduces us to Muhammad b. Ibrahim al-Shirazi (d. 1640), better known as Mulla Sadra, and his theory of scriptural hermeneutics developed most explicitly in his book, The Keys to the Unseen (Mafatih al-ghayb). Through his reading of Mulla Sadra Rustom was trying to gather what kind of interpretive framework constituted a philosophical approach to the Qur’an. Through this study we see how Mulla Sadra was indebted to earlier figures in the Islamic intellectual tradition, such as Suhrawardi (1154-91) and Ibn al-Arabi (d. 1240). Mohammed Rustom, Associate Professor of Islamic Studies at Carleton University, has been thinking about this question for years.
